Gunner Lodge Reviews

Isolde
Everything was amazing. The pool table, speakers and hot tub created a great atmosphere. We all loved the decor and it is in a truly beautiful area. The local pub was lovely and you have to walk a mile to it which was refreshing. Only thing to note was that the oven wasnt good. It took hours to cook a roast chicken, next time Id just eat at the pub instead.
We had a fabulous weekend here in Gunner Lodge. The hot tub is fantastic, especially when it's cold and raining! The decor is spectacular, and facilities great. We would have liked a bigger oven, and cupboard space. Finding storage for 8 people's food for 4 days is difficult! We were a little hot, but didn't realise that we could have asked for it to be turned down, as it's controlled externally. We would have liked better signage from the road please, if it's dark you can't see where the little farm track is. We also had an interesting time getting the groceries delivered. We did get them eventually! Other than that the place is beautiful, remote and wild.
Gunner Lodge was a great place for a group of friends to relax, unwind and enjoy the surroundings. A close walk to the Ribblehead Viadect and surrounded by lots of trails. However, it was difficult to reach the place due to the lack of internet and signal, so if like us you plan to have 34 cars arriving, downloading offline maps would help. Although the owners instructions were simple, they still had some of us confused especially if arriving after sunset, as the single track roads will not be lit and you will be expected to drive through fields of sheep, and if driving alone, will need to get out of the car to open and close gates. In terms of the house it self, everything was available, good facilities and utilities, very luxurious and clean. We did find out that some of the instructions in the guide book were old, as we thought that the lights for the hot tub required a fob to work, however it turned out that there was a fault and were not working. As per the owner, the hot tub lights should have been on all the time. We felt disappointed with that as the outside area is pitch black after sunset we noticed some lights were installed on the house outside, however these were never on, so not only were we unable to sit outside but also not able to use the hot tub after sunset. Lastly, the heating in the lodge is controlled by the owner via an app, which means we had some hours especially in the morning as we were all early risers that the house was quite cold, and took a while to warm up. Upon speaking to the owner on increasing the temperature to 2728 degrees, we were informed she would not increase it anymore than this as its not usually required even in the depths of winter. The temperature controls in each room was sat between 2325, and never once during our stay did it exceed this. Although half of the group were comfortable, the other half felt cold, luckily we found some blankets stored in the bedroom cupboards. It also did not help that we were unable to get the log burner started, we ended up using all of the firefighter and kindling provided however the logs provided would just not burn. For those planning to stay during the colderrainy months, be warned you will struggle to light the outside pit. We did not even bother as it had rained that day, so did not spend much time in the outside areas of the lodge. Overall a nice stay, watching the sunrise from the hot tub with the views was the highlight.

What a fabulous property! Very comfortable and luxurious. Loved the addition of towelling robes which were great for using the hot tub. The weather was not great during our stay but we were warm and cosy inside and we still enjoyed using the hot tub. Slightly disappointed to find broken glass and evidence of previous occupants party confetti under the sofas but other than that, the property was clean so this was myst have been an oversight. I would highly recommend Gunner Lodge and will be returning!

An amazing property in a perfect location. The facilities were excellent, the view from the property is stunning, and there are a huge number of beautiful walks you can start and finish right at the front door. The moment we arrived we knew it was going to be a fantastic week, and we were already planning our return before we left. The host is friendly, helpful and quick to respond. Genuinely one of the nicest places I've had the pleasure to visit.
Well appointed, very comfortable. Especial features are the large screen tv, the pool table, and the hot tub all much appreciated.
Cheryl

Booked this property last minute to get the girls together for a birthday weekend. The property really is stunning and the decor is to a very high standard just as described in the description and photographs. The open layout is just perfect along with the outdoor hot tubjaccuzi to relax in the views and then to come in to a log burner fire very comfy beds We will be back, thank you!

Property is of a very high standard and the decor is simply stunning. Owner always on hand to answer any questions and very easily contactable should any issues arise. Can't wait to return in the future.

We stayed at the lodge over the Easter break. This by far is the best lodge we have ever been privileged to have stayed in. From the moment we walked in it was breathtaking, the design of the property is of high specification and each room is beautifully decorated with a quirky look in a contemporary yet modern setting. Diane and her family were very hospitable and helpful during our break and went out their way to make sure we had a pleasant stay. This lodge is definitely worth a visit. We will be returning in the not so distance future. Thanks again Diane, regards, Roopal and Anish
The property is stunning and of a very high standard. There are a lot of nice touches to this property. Such as the beautiful crockery, sensor lighting up the stairs and in the bathrooms. It is also set in a beautiful location. Nothing is too much bother for the owner and is on hand to make your stay as perfect as possible.
We had such a wonderful stay at gunner lodge, the lodge was carefully designed and immaculate throughout, everything had been thought of and catered for. It was perfect for our family and grandparents also and the beds were very comfortable. It was our first visit to the area and we would definitely like to return again.
Louise
Everything was lovely and this was the best place I have ever stayed in. Unfortunately the hot tub stopped working for a large proportion of our stay around 36 hours. The owners really did do everything they could to get it up and working but I'd booked the place specifically so we could have the hot tub and this was disappointing. Diane was so lovely though and brought in our shopping on the first night Sainsbury's deliver! and bought us a couple of bottles of prosecco to say sorry for the hot tub palava.

Absolutely amazing place for us to stay over the New Year 2022. Perfect location and a very relaxing break. Thank you to Mr & Mrs Handley for looking after us, I would strongly recommend this property.
We had a fantastic Christmas week in the lodge , its a 5star property and had a brilliant hot tub, cant wait to go back.
Gunner lodge is truly spectacular, from the scenic setting to the exclusive interior. What really topped it off for us was the hospitality afforded by the host very helpful and quick to reply on any questions and even invited my family to meet the animals. We cant wait to visit again.
Wonderful property in an idyllic location with walks in every direction. The house has been refurbished to the highest of standards and we had an amazing weekend, walking, chilling in the hot tub, watching the stars by the fire pit

We had a great time. The place is amazing and the service was faultless. The owner lives near by and any queries we had we dealt with within a matter of minutes. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone. I will definitely be considering staying here in the future. Well done Diane and co for creating such a fantastic place.

We were all so impressed with Gunner Lodge. The setting is spectacular a stone's throw from the Ribblehead Viaduct and with the 3 peaks looming large in the landscape. From the minute we walked in the door, it was clear the well designed interior is just as stunning. It was like stepping into the pages of a magazine! The emphasis is on luxury with lots of tasteful touches and yet it still manages to feel cosy and homely. Diane had thought of everything to make our stay relaxing & comfortable. We enjoyed fighting over which bedroom to choose they all have individual decor & stylish ensuite bathrooms, where one of my favourite design details were the little golden animal figures perched on the wall lights! My other half loved the pool table which cleverly flips over to become a dining table & of course the almost cinemasize TV was very popular! If you like walking , you'll be in your element every direction offers a possibility for the serious hikers as well as the less adventurous. We enjoyed a pleasant 20 minute stroll under the viaduct to the nearest pub where the enormous size of the portions means you'll be glad of the walk back. One of the highlights of our stay was sipping champagne in the hot tub while watching a steam train cross the viaduct. That takes some beating! This place is proof that the UK is one of the best places to holiday in the world & we've had the best time here. Thanks so much Diane. We look forward to coming again, subject to you not being justifiably fully booked forever more!!!
This is an incredible and unique property. A perfect rural retreat. The location is absolutely stunning and the property has been refurbished to a very high standard I have never seen such high end furnishings in a rental or holiday let. The owners were also incredibly attentive. We will definitely be returning!
Stunning property and location. We were lucky to be the first to stay at this newly converted stone farm building. The decor is amazing and each room has its own wow factor. The beds are also really comfortable which was a huge bonus. Great property and we will definitely be back!
