Acorn Reviews

Lovely little cottage, very cosy with the log burner lit and had everything there you needed. One thing I didnt enjoy but this is Sykes, not the owners. I woke up the day before we were due to leave to an email reminding me of the checkout procedure. Firstly it made me check our departure date and secondly didnt want to be reminded when we still had a full day and night of holiday left The night before would have be better or not at all as in my mind, not necessary.
Everything was amazing . We really loved it. Skylights brilliant with the moon . Thanks for having us
Shower needs a hand rail in
We would recommend Acorn Cottage the accommodation is perfect for a cosy week weekend away. Well stocked kitchen, bed was comfy, lovely furnishings. Situated with stunning views over the countryside.
Oliver
Absolutely lovely stay at this little cottage. The grounds are in a really well maintained. The cottages are in close proximity to each other however there is still a lot of privacy. The cottage itself was perfect for what we wanted. There was gorgeous views of the hills beyond the hot tub. Everything you required was within the cottage such as cooking equipment, glasses, plates etc. 15 minute walk down to Bowness, this is on a hill so bare in mind. 6 for a taxi back to the room which was good. Overall, we loved it and will definitely come back.
Rebecca
Absolutely stunning property! Came to the Lake District to do some Fell and Wainwright walking. The owner is incredibly responsive and the welcome booklet in the property has so much useful information. Bed is very comfortable. We loved the view of the fields full of sheep and even some cows and a deer who popped in.
Lovely property . Just think should be advertised that bathroom has no door its all open plan . The kitchen fan very loud . Option for seperately lights would be helpful . Otherwise lovely place .
We had a great stay the cottage is in a beautiful location very private and quiet . Parking right outside Facilities as listed . Very clean , all kitchen facilities for use . We are out every evening but there are plenty of contacts in the information book for takeaway if having a night in .Sarah came to see us when checking in to see if all was ok . Take your own towels for the hot tub use we did ask for another general towel each this was sorted straight away .Takes about 25 mins to walk to Bowness pier we did use taxis for returning later , no issues they were always available . As with a lot of the roads locally there are no pavements . We will definitely be returning.

Very basic but comfortable. No cupboard staples such as oil, sauces etc. The cottage wasn't quite clean and a little tired in places. Velux blinds a bit awkward to open and close. Views from the terrace are stunning.
Absolutely loved spending a few days at Acorn Cottage to celebrate a birthday. 20 minutes walk out of the hustle and bustle of Bowness, but close enough to still enjoy it although we always got a taxi home! We would definitely consider going back to Acorn and the wider Oaks Estate. The only small things that we would suggest improvements on would be the kitchen lighting. When switched on, the extractor fan comes on too, which is great, but is quite loud. Some additional under cupboard lighting may benefit from having a small amount of light in the kitchen without the need for the extractor fan. And the roof light above the shower we were unable to open this or lower the blind on all attempts over the break. It might be that we were trying to do it on the wrong angle with the pole, or whether this needs some attention.
The cottage is amazing, such a perfect weekend. Plenty of space and the views are amazing. Really enjoyed our stay and have already spoke about coming back. Already been asked the name of the place from 2 friends that have seen pictures of the stay. Very close to the centre and plenty of walks close by.
My partner and I had an amazing stay at Acorn Cottageit was immaculately clean and exceeded my expectations. The view from the balcony and hot tub were beautiful. Few little welcome gifts which was a lovely touch! I was emailed by the manager on the day of arrival to tell us our accommodation had been cleaned and was available earlier for us to check in which was a bonus! It took 2025 mins to walk into Bowness, nice easy walk down hill, the initial part was walking on the road but not particularly busy, then paths most of the way. I wouldnt risk walking in the dark so we got a taxi back on 2 occasions costing 4 which we thought was a bargain! Would definitely recommend staying here and return however noticed to rebook next year cost significantly more which is a shame!
Fantastic little cottage, really cosy feel and the view from the hot tub is beautiful. Great location but quite a walk into Bowness and mostly with no pavement, you can get taxis though. One little suggestion for inside the cottage would be to fit some hooks so that you can hang coats up. Friendly staff on site, would highly recommend this cottage for a couple looking for somewhere cosy.

A lovely cosy cottage. From the hot tub you have a fantastic view of the hills and fields full of sheep. Weve seen birds of prey, pheasants and partridges. The outdoor seating area is a sun trap, a real benefit when it starts to get cold. Parking right next to the property was a real bonus. We loved our holiday.
Christopher
Lovely property, would certainly sleep here again and everyone on site was very friendly. Our Cottage was very clean and we loved the jacuzzi! Only feedback is The Acorn Cottage it's not for light sleepers, any snoring will be heard throughout the cottage. This wasn't a problem for us and we wouldn't personally change anything but it's worth noting.
Acorn is a little cracker! The accommodation is lovely. The high level beams were a bit dusty with cobwebs but the apart from this, the property was extremely clean. The sofa has a few stains on but very comfy. The bed was soft and comfy. Externally, from the balcony, you have uninterrupted views across farmland and to the hills. The only downside of the hot tub is the way the lid raises blotting out some of the view and if swivelled 180 degrees, you would get a better view when in the hot tub. As much as we loved the property, we probably won't return due to the traffic on the mile or so walk into Bowness. We like a pleasant walk of about a mile onto a bus route but we had to use taxis in and out of Bowness as the walk is mostly on quite busy roads without pavements meaning you are taking your life into your own hands. If you don't mind driving, this is one of the nicest locations I've stayed.
Richard
My partner and I had an absolutely amazing stay at this beautiful cottage. The location is perfect overlooking fields and very private. Lovely log burner and hot tub made it extra special. A great base to explore the Lake District and only a few minutes drive from Bowness on Windermere. You can find some great restaurants nearby especially the Italian trattoria. This was the first time staying at this cottage. But it certainly wont be the last.
Cracking little cottage in beautiful surroundings. Everything you need for a perfect stay is included. This was are third time stopping here but not the last .
Lovely property couldnt fault it! Property had everything you need, the Hottub balcony is ideal after a day of doing activities just to relax, have a bbq which is great if you order from the local butchers and soak up the stunning well maintained site. There is nice walks on site across the fields and a stunning viewpoint with a swing looking over Windermere lake and gardensoutdoor seating at the 5 hotel on site to enjoy a drink, which is only a 5 min walk down the drive. The property is also ideally located can walk into the local area for a few drinks or too the lake or a 5 min drive to local towns such as Bowness on Windermere, so dont have to travel too far to have a good time!
Absolutely brilliant stay here at acorn The location and the cottage was perfect! The cottage was clean, tidy, beautifully decorated & the little touches of having tea bags and sugar and other little bits was lovely to have which we havent had been provided with before. The views from the cottage were stunning and it was so nice and nice and quiet even though there was other cottages sort of close by. Also nice and close to town but out of the way from the hustle n bustle. We will definitely be back soon!! Thank you so much for everything.
Our stay was fantastic! The condition of the cottage was great, as expected and the view was gorgeous. Jo and team were great and made our stay so easy. It was a nice easy walk to the village which was handy as we hadnt driven, but the taxi services suggested worked a treat. Will definitely stay again and will be recommending to friends!
Kirsty
Fabulous little property! The cottage has absolutely everything you would need or want for a stay. Great location too tucked away at the top of the estate with complete privacy, and a lovely walk down into Bowness.
We had a lovely, cosy Christmas at Acorn cottage. The place itself was easy to find, but off the beaten track. Close enough to walk to the town for food and drinks. A few nice local walks, which the half way points would be pubs. The cottage its self, had everything we required. the kitchen was well stocked, enough for us to cook a full Christmas dinner. The lounge overlooked the beautiful fells and Grizedale forrest, which could also be enjoyed in the hot tub. Over all, a grand time was had by all, to the point of not wanting to leave!. Thank you.
Beautiful accommodation with stunning views. Stairs a little tricky to kitchen. Loved the jacuzzi.
Belinda
Absolutely stunning! I booked this property as a surprise getaway for my hubbies birthday, and it honestly exceeded my expectations! One of the best places I've booked in and stayed. Sarah, Jo and the team who manage the property were great. Sending ample information prior to arriving even meaning I could order and get delivered a birthday cake for my husband to be there when we arrived. They even contacted us on the day letting us know we could have an earlier check in and a later check out time. I don't think it is our last time visiting Acorn!
There is no pub or shop within 0. 3 miles. The listing is incorrect. The hotel close by is closed for the foreseeable future. Did not like that there was no door on the toilet in fact it is all essentially one room with walls part way which means you can hear and smell your loved one on the toilet!
This was a very nice property, idilic location. This cottage exceeded our expectations. We had a amazing stay here.
We had the most amazing holiday staying in Acorn Lodge. The property is very private with beautiful views over the countryside and the cows in the fields, and was the perfect romantic break. The hot tub was situated on the deck, which was incredible to sit with our drinks, looking out to those spectacular views. The bed was so comfortable and cosy we were there is September and the property has everything you need, even a hairdryer. The only warning I would give is that the walls between the bathroom and the bedroom don't go all the way to the roof so there is a gap at the top. It wasn't a problem for us as one of us went to the kitchen which is away from the bathroom and down some steps if we needed more privacy. We loved every minute of our holiday and we will definitely go back again.
Fantastic Property with incredible views! Super comfy bed which was perfect after our long walks and ideal location to then get back into tourist hotspots as and when we wanted to! Will stay again next year!
Angela
This was our 3rd year staying at Acorn cottage, set on the stunning Oaks estate . The hot tub is great after a day walking . This year I found standards had gone down !! Too many cobwebs, drawers in bedroom dirty with dust and hair, cheapest kitchen& toilet roll ,no ice tray and the welcome pack was non existent .
Loved our stay here, its got everything that you need in the cottage itself, and its a few minutes drive to Bowness. The view out on the balcony is amazing! We were luckily enough to even see, what we believe, a buzzard! Which was a magical sight. The cottage itself is open plan, with walls being used as a divider, it is very airy and cosy. It was extremely clean, and a folder was left with instructions for everything and also details for attractions and walks. The site is also great, plenty of parking if you do need more than 1 space that comes with the cottage itself, and the site is peaceful, we were never disrupted by cars, or anything for that matter! Its a great location, you can stay close to Windermere and Bowness which has plenty of shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways. But its also a great location if you wish to travel further too. We would 100 stay here again, and we more than likely will! There are plenty of other accommodations on the site too, so if this doesnt suit your needs, then Im sure one of the others will.
Edward
This cottage was really nice we had an amazing stay and would definitely return.
Michael
Absolutely lovely stay and we will be booking again later in the year !
Lorraine
Property lovely , Clean and warm. Good for couples who know each other well, as no room is enclosed including bathroom ! Hot tub a lovely bonus. Location good
Lynsey
What a lovely little treat this place is! ! Me and my boyfriend came for 3 nights and loved every second. The cleanliness of the cottage and hot tub was immaculate! The view as well was beautiful and waking up to robins, pheasants and sheep was delightful! The fact that the little things are thought of such as tea, coffee, matches for the log burner etc so we didnt need to think of them, also the grasmere gingerbread was a lovely touch!! We will definitely be back!!! Can not wait!!! Lynsey and Pete xx
Amanda
Excellent accommodation ,great attention to detail ,loved the battery safe candle, it gave such a warm homely feel upon arrival . We left feedback in the cottage too we would return and recommend . Views from Hot tub stunning ,very luxurious and needed after an arduous climbwalk . A truly peaceful wonderful break ,thank you .
Claire
Acorn cottage was really lovely and a great location. The property itself was very clean on our arrival and we done a pre order of a breakfast pack which was in the fridge ready for our first morning. I would recommend this as after a 4 hr journey it was nice to just get there and start enjoying our holiday without having to go shops straight away. It also had tea, coffee, fresh milk and biscuits for when we got there. The hot tub was lovely and clean and had such a lovely veiw which me and my husband enjoyed every day of been there and having sheep as our neighbours was great. We also enjoyed the lovely log fire esp as we went in the winter. The only thing I think the property could do with is some hooks around the place to hang things like coats or dressing gowns and a shoe rack would have been very handy. Just another thing to keep in mind there is no doors in the property separating any of the rooms including bathroom, luckily for us me and my husband don't mind but some couple's might not like that there isn't much privacy in the bathroom. I would certainly book to go again.
Hollie
Myself and my partner absolutely loved our little staycation. The view was unbelievable and the location was great. We are defiantly looking at booking again next year.
Had a great time at Acorn the hot tub and views were amazing and bed comfy. There is no door to the bathroom although it is tucked away in the corner, so doesnt feel all that private. No major issues overall and we had a chilled out relaxing week. Also enjoyed the smart tv and log fire and kitchen facilities. Could do with some new oven trays maybe they are a bit scratched looking. Thank you.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 7 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 12 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 16 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 19 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 26 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
