About Monk's Cottage

Monk's Cottage is a lovely semi-detached stone cottage located in Buxton, Derbyshire. The kitchen is wonderfully appointed at the front of the property, with its pristine white units and black granite worktops, you are guaranteed to be inspired for some home cooking.

To the side of the kitchen, step into the spacious conservatory which overlooks both the front and rear garden and is a real sun trap! To the other side of the kitchen is the lounge area, which has a large corner sofa, ideal for curling up in front of the TV after a long day sightseeing.

The woodburning stove is a welcome addition, especially during those winter months. Upstairs you will find two bedrooms; one double and one king-size with zip and link beds to suit all types of people.

The twin bedroom has a wealth of character with its exposed beams, and the master bedroom with its built-in wardrobes which expand across one whole wall. The family bathroom has high-quality fittings with a lovely bath and shower over.

Outside there is a shared front garden and patio area with furniture provided. Or, for some privacy, you can enjoy the rear patio area which also hosts a luxurious hot tub.

While you stay in Buxton, why not take a trip to some of its most popular attractions? Poole's Cavern is a two million-year-old limestone cave with lights installed inside and bridges for the public to enjoy the magnificent views.

The grounds also have a park with picnic areas and woodland trails for active walkers and sightseers. There is something for everyone here!

For a taste of history, visit St Anne's Well, which can be used by the public to refill their water bottles as the permanent flow is mineral water. Previous to this, it was once a Pilgrim shrine, but has been dedicated to St.

Monk's Cottage Reviews

Lovely cottage in a great location. Very clean and had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend with our four legged friend. The hot tub was a bonus after a days walk. Would definitely book again.
We loved our stay lovely clean cottage, Only suggestion I can make, is we booked mainly because of the hot tub it was raining very heavily on our last night, and we couldnt use the tub as there is no shelter over the tub, I find this strange as this is the main feature of the cottage, so some sort of shelter over the tub would be a great asset and allow people to use the tub in all weathers.
Tracey
Lovely stay at Monks Cottage. Comfortable sofa in the lounge and most importantly, comfy mattresses! Very clean, spacious cottage nicely decorated and accessorised. We paid the extra charge for the hot tub, which was delightful. Buxton is within walking distance, if youre feeling like stretching your legs. Theyre not exaggerating when they say one parking space, however we needed a second one so contacted the owner who responded very promptly and helped sort us out. Only slight negative was the towels were quite small and we wished wed brought our own. Would definitely return to the cottage.
A cosy cottage, great central heating. Very clean and comfortable and equipped with everything you would need. The hot tub in its little courtyard was very private. Yes, there is a small lane to it and a very small parking space but not a deal breaker. We had a couple of small problems but these were dealt with very quickly and efficiently. Highly recommended.
We had all we needed, except, perhaps, for a laundry basket. We realised most guests will not have missed this, but as we stayed for a full two weeks we did a couple of washes. Other than that, it was a brilliant stay and all the neighbours were so friendly and helpful
The property itself was very comfortable lovely and clean. Well equipped everything you needed. The only downside was the approach to the property down a short track, not a big issue. Would definitely stop there again.
Hilary
A well presented holiday let. Excellent quality of equipment , furnishings and bedding. Would certainly return another Would certainly return another year.
Absolutely fantastic cottage. ...can't rate it highly enough......
A lovely week in Monk's Cottage, all the main areas very clean. Excellent location to get to lots of places to visit and easy walking distance into Buxton. Hot tub excellent! Plenty of space for our family of 4. Suggestions for improvement would be extra patio seating, hooks for towels etc in hot tub area and a newer style highchair. What was disappointing was that we asked via the agent to briefly speak to the owner in advance but we were not contacted. There was a small issue on arrival and I then had the owner's number but she was a little slow to respond. We would still stay at Monks again. Thank you for an enjoyable holiday!
Raymond
Everything was excellent. The only possible suggestion may be to do with the hot tub. Perhaps the shrub over the fence by the side gate could be cut down to fence height to avoid the seeds blowing into the hot tub. Alternatively supply a small net that customers could clear the leaves to assist with maintenance.
We had a fantastic week at Monk's Cottage. We loved everything about our stay and were very sad to leave. Perfect location for exploring the Peak District and for relaxing at the end of the day.
We had a great stay. Cottage was clean, spacious and comfortable.
Sandra
Lovely cottage, very clean and spacious great walks and beautiful scenery would definitely recommend this place
Alison
A fantastic holiday. ..all very clean and comfortable as described.
Despite everything the British weather threw at us, a very pleasant week sitting in the hot tub after a day's exploring was the cherry on the cake! The cottage was lovely and our hosts were extremely welcoming and friendly We definitely recommend Monks Cottage for anybody intending to stop in the Buxton area
Lindsey
We had a lovely stay at Monks cottage. The house is spotlessly clean and very well equipped. It is about 15 minutes to walk to town but it's uphill to walk back! Gina, the owner, rang to check everything was alright and ensured we knew we could ring her if we needed anything. The hot tub is a really welcome feature and was used every day.
Great cottage in a great location, hot tub was amazing, kitchen great and overall a brilliant week and we will be returning. Only a couple of small points, the shower is not very powerful and the mattresses could probably do with changing and possobly a few more basics in the kitchen cooking oil etc but wouldn't stop me returning.
Jeffrey
Everything was as described in the advert. Monks cottage is a lovely spacious cottage ideal for 24 people. Gina arrived shortly after us and gave us a warm welcome and let us know she was just a phone call and 10 minutes away if we needed anything despite it being over Christmas. Everything was lovely, the local pub very friendly and super local walks on your doorstep. I would definitely recommend.
Lovely cottage and easy walk into Buxton. Bottle of wine was a lovely surprise and the log burner made the evenings very cosy. Everything you need in the kitchen and hot tub was lovely. Only issue was trying to find the cottage as it's tucked away down a track, so detailed instructions would have been useful also, only one parking space, which I hadn't noticed on when booking. We were 2 couples coming from different parts of the Midlands so we had to move our car quite a way away. It was a minor issue and didn't detract from a lovely weekend away. I'd definitely recommend.
Excellent cottage in a very convenient area. Hot tub was great and very clean. It was good to have controllable heating in the house to cope with changeable weather. The cottage is very wellequipped generally but it would have been useful to have a few extras in the kitchen eg kitchen roll, a few washing tablets for emergencies and some cooking oil. However, the shops are very close so it's not really a problem! We really appreciated the bottle of wine on arrival and had a lovely stay.
We had a lovely stay at Monks Cottage. A very clean little cottage with everything you need. A great base for visiting the local area, and with Buxton town centre being only a 10 minute walk away. The Hot Tub also providing a very welcome relief for tired legs after all the walking. The car park is very very tight especially if you have a larger car. Reverse parking is recommended if able to do so !
Fantastic property with absolutely everything we could wish for. Friendly neighbours especially number 6 and missy the dog. Hot tub was a god send after long walks.
A really welcoming property and owner comfortable and clean, excellent amenities, and good location for getting around the Peak District.
Rachel
A superb property in a fabulous location. It was lovely to be able to walk into Buxton and we could enjoy an evening drink at one of the many bars. The neighbours were all friendly and sociable which was lovely. The property itself more than met our needs and was comfortable and had everything we needed.
Monks Cottage is beautiful and we were very impressed with how clean it was, absolutely spotless! The cottage has modern touches, but still cosy and comfortable with a lovely charm about it. The hot tub was fabulous, so nice to relax in after a busy day out. The owner contacted us the day we arrived, making sure we had her number if we had any problems, and left us a little welcome gift which was so thoughtful. Our only comment would be that a hair drier would have been helpful, but otherwise we had everything we needed and had a lovely stay. We would definitely recommend Monks Cottage to other people.
Lovely stay, clean and spacious cottage. Perfect location for exploring as most Peak District attractions are within an easy drive.
Graham
The cottage was lovely and cosy. Everything needed was in the cottage and it was a lovely place to spend a week.
Dominique
Absolutely fantastic weekend. We will definitely be re booking xx
Philip
Just brilliant. Thank you.

Loved our weekend away, beautiful cottage , fab hot tub just what we wanted for our sister break. and we didn't let the stormy weather bother us, would definitely go again
Dissatisfied no heating in conservetry no dimplex heaters as advertised in ... Dissatisfied no heating in conservetry no dimplex heaters as advertised in monks cottage for use in conservetry bought a heater was told we could not use it didnt Evan offer any heaters so was unable to use hot tub holiday was booked because of the hot tub and could get straight into the warmth of the conservatory it is obvious you need heating at this time of the year this spoilt our holiday for sure we would come again if there was heating in the conservatory
The kitchen missed a few items that we would have liked, ie a casserole dish, but o really the property was very clean, tidy wellequipped with games, TV, hot tub and very comfy beds. Ideally placed for a shirt walk into Buxton and exploring the Peak District
Lavinia
'Incredible ' the only way I can describe this perfect cottage. .our stay was awesome..we most definitely recommend the exquisite little cottage..we didn't want to leave..thank you so much
Michelle
A wonderful, spacious, well equipped, attractively sited, quality cottage, furnished and decorated to a very pleasing standard, well cared for and maintained, just delightful.
Lovely cottage would book again in a heartbeat but the rising prices for the same period in 2022 onwards have forced us to look elsewhere like a lot of the nicer cottages, since Covid prices have gone up way out of our price range. Great walks from the doorstep literally! One reason we'd love to come back we didn't get enough nice weather to try the footpath down to Cunning Dale! Hot tub was wonderful, especially after a day out. The neighbours are lovely, and we met Gina a couple of times the owner and she's really helpful and friendly. The kitchen facilities are superb, the conservatory is lovely, but a little cold we didn't get much sun! but we dug out our throws! Amazing corner setee in the lounge perfect for two people to spread out on to vegetate in the evening. Shopping locally couldn't be easier a couple of minutes down the road from either Aldi or Morrisons, or Buxton's shopping areamarkets during the day. Not a complaint, but a note to drivers as noone ever tells you these things the car park isn't the first big one on the right that's for The Mews cottages. A few yards further along, down a gravel track to the right, is the smaller walled area for the Dakin Court cottages! It can be a little tight when other vehicles are in their spots, and we had some creative multipoint turns to get in! Recommend turning round if you can to reverse into the spot, it makes getting out so much easier!
Monks Cottage is a very well equipped John Lewis rather than IKEA if you know what I mean. Lovely bathroom and kitchen, no expense spared, except for an extractor in the bathroom. Really quiet and peaceful location The house is warm and comfortable, great corner sofa. Simple heating controls and log fire, only used once, didn't need it. TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime. Comfortable beds in spacious rooms. On arrival the Hot tub was ready to go, but we didn't use it, rain stopped play. It is positioned in a very private spot, not overlooked. Monks Cottage is at the end of a horseshoe of cottages with friendly permanent residents. There is a communal grassed garden and a parking area for four cars, the Monks spot being the nearest and in sight of and just a short distance away. I had no problem parking my old large saloon there, the access drive is a little rough and ready. We had a great stay, Buxton and surrounding area is full of things to do and some great restaurants. Well worth a visit. I would recommend Monks Cottage.
Stephanie
We had a lovely stay at Monk's Cottage, though the hot tub wasnt ready for the first night of our stay, and parking was extremely tight i. E. only space for one car. Others must park on the street which is quite far away. If we'd been aware of this, we would have come with fewer cars.
Nicole
The hot tub was a fantastic luxurious addition. The cottage was spotless and the beds were very comfortable. It was spacious and we really enjoyed our stay. A big plus was being able to bring a dog. The only downside is the parking is indeed very tight and if bringing more than 1 car it will need to be parked elsewhere! Great location for exploring the Peak District, our weekend went by too fast and we wish we had stayed longer!
