Old Beams Reviews

Overall our holiday was lovely however a number of things were different to how they had been advertised, the double room in the loft is not big enough for 2 adults and the bathroom shower is unusable for anyone taller than 5ft10! The other bedrooms and en-suites were nice however we did have a problem with one of the showers on arrival, as it was Read morebroken. The garden is also not completely enclosed, and on arrival we were told that the neighbours have shared access, for their bins. Hide

Celebrated my 30th here and it's an absolutely amazing place that is great value for money. Bedrooms very well presented and the beds were really comfy. Great location with bikes to rent just 10 minutes away for those who like to explore but also the cottage has a lovely garden and hot tub if you wanted to stay in. The dining room was where we spenRead mored most of our time as it's beautifully decorated and a great space for hosting parties!! Hide

14 of us had a very enjoyable weekend at Old Beams. Value for money was excellent. Very comfortable, clean and well-equipped, and having a lovely spacious feel inside and out, its the ideal place for a large party to relax together. Hosts Gill & Jonathan were very friendly and helpful.
Mary
Hot tub, barbecue and pizza oven were all great, as were the seating areas around the garden. We enjoyed breakfasts at the benches in the garden and evening meals in the patio area. The conservatory was great at night for family games around the table.
Jacquie
The photos on the website are really good, but it's not until you enter the property that you get a real feel for the place. It's a beautiful house, but also comfortable with a real homely feel. We were a family party of three generations (plus a dog) and every one of us loved our week and were sad to leave. The owners were extremely hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. I could not recommend this highly enough.
Robin
A very well equipped, clean comfortable and spacious place to stay. Highly recommended ! Narrow staircases could be a problem for those with mobility problems
Gillian
We had an amazing golden wedding and birthday celebration. A selection of friends and family either stayed overnight or visited on different days. 1 friend took her first holiday in 5 years due to ill health and was relaxed and happy. There was enough room to spread out, but plenty of opportunities for chat and reminiscing .also plenty of local pla ces to visit. Thank you Jonathan and Gillian for a holiday packed with happy memories.
Barbara
Old Beams is a lovely old well equipped house with a delightful secure garden. Lots of space inside and out for large groups to not feel on top of each other. Hot tub and pizza oven went down very well with younger members of the party. A great welcome from the thoughtful and caring owners who provided lots of advice and recommendations. The house is located on the southern edge of the National Park on an A road so a bit of road noise but on the other hand its easy to get to.
Stephen
Great house, great area
Gemma
We had such a wonderful time here. The owners were really friendly & welcoming, on hand but not intrusive. Really nice to be shown around and be able to ask questions. Decorated lovely, the beds are really comfortable & the kitchen is more equipped than some homes! Everything is high quality, with plenty of crockery & glasses. Its a good base for t he manifold trail & lots of walks within a short drive too. Recommend The Star at Cotton and Hettys Tea rooms. Would love to stay again.
Yvonne
Gill & Jonathan were very welcoming, the 2 bottles of Prosecco & home made cake went down a treat. The property was beautiful, clean, well stocked & the location was perfect. The garden was an absolute joy to spend time in - which I did! The addition of the hot tub was also a bonus, very enjoyable. A perfect place for a large group to spend some qu ality time together. Alton towers was very close, the teenagers loved it. Plenty to do & see here. Highly recommended.
Jessica
Overall a great house for our party of 14 and dogs. The hot tub and pizza oven were a great touch...and well used! Parking for all our cars was also great. The welcoming cake, fizzy and flowers were also a great touch. Thankyou for a super week
Marcin
Hosts very welcoming and efficient - we received homemade cake and bottles of bubbly, been shown the property and all its quirks. Building is beautiful with generous inside and outside spaces. Charmin rooms, very comfortable beds with feather filled duvets and pillows. Well equipped kitchen included everything we needed. Conservatory area with mass ive wooden table. Pizza oven kept in very good working condition. One of the best hot tubs!highly recommended for family and friends "home-from-home"
CHRISTINE
A family group of eleven of us stayed here - ranging in ages from 27 to 72. Gill and Jonathan were the most helpful hosts. This place is amazing - very quirky, but with so much living space and excellent bedrooms. On several days we walked directly from the property - there are so many routes to choose from. The hot tub was well-used, particularly after strenuous walking. We also enjoyed the pizza oven ... and the log fire for chilly evenings. There is lots to do in the local area.
Aimee
This house is amazing. Absolutely perfect. Had a family get together for a birthday. 14 of us and a dog. The house has so much room. All beds very comfortable and beautifully decorated. There has been so much thought snd love gone into the decor of this house. Gill and Jonathon were very welcoming and very helpful. Loads of equipment in kitchen. The conservatory is a bonus. Great for sitting around and playing games. Lovely cosy lounge with TV , Perfect location for all peak tourist spots
Katrina
Lovely attention to detail including freshly made cake, some bubbly and fresh flowers. Highly recommended For a family gathering as the social spaces are great for entertaining.
John
Such a lovely house and the owners were brilliant. Great communication and lovely show around when we got there. Definitely recommend.
Stephen
Nice cottage for family gatherings.
Pamela
Old Beams is a lovely place, well equipped and comfortable. Ideally located in an area where there is lots to do. Gill and Jonathan are very welcoming and helpful hosts. Would be very happy to stay here again.
Janice
This property really accommodated our group of 6 couples, all rooms are ensuite. Lots of space, with a fantastic log burner in the dual lounge. The outside area is really good too, including lawned garden, patio and hot tub area.
Helen
The house was absolutely perfect for our group of 12 ranging from 4 to 49 (plus dog)! The friendly, helpful hosts met us there and showed us around. The house was fully equipped and beautifully presented. We stayed at New Year and it was still decorated for Christmas which added to the charm. We had a fabulous time and would definitely recommend Ol d Beams.
Claire
Beautiful large cottage ideal for a celebration. Extremely well equipped and owners very helpful and approachable. We were welcomed with a cake and Prosecco, a fantastic way to start our stay. The location is beautiful with lots of walks near by. The local pubs arent the best for food but we didnt venture more than 1 mile.
Dawn
A beautiful cottage with plenty of room for everyone to be together or to split into smaller groups if preferred. It is very well equipped if you want to cook at home, although there are plenty of options for eating out locally too.
Pam
The house and garden lived up to expectations. We made full use of the hot tub, charcoal bbq and the wonderful pizza oven. The house is fully equipped to a high standard. It was wonderful to all sit down together (12 people) at the table in the conservatory for Sunday lunch. We appreciated the cosy fire in the evenings. The 4 children had their own floor at the top of the house with a shared bathroom but all the other bedrooms were ensuite which worked perfectly.
Barry
Homely, comfy, conveniently situated. Everything you need to relax.
Michael
This house was a perfect choice to accommodate four generations of our family, ranging from 85yrs to 1 yr old, our two dogs and three cars. Seven people in total. We were greeted by the owner on our arrival who presented us with two bottles of Prosecco and a homemade cake then proceeded to show us around. The garden was perfect for us inc dogs to b oth play and relax in. The hot tub was enjoyed by our all. The location was great for Alton towers and sightseeing.
David
A large property with ample space for children to play and adults to sit and enjoy the peaceful nature. The bbq and the pizza oven were both put to good use with the children making their own special pizzas and bread sticks The facilities were excellent with everything that you could possibly need for a large group. Its half way between Ashbourne a nd Leek for shopping but the small village shop catered for essential items that you required. A wonderful place and a great holiday
Gillian
Perfect break with lots of happy memories made. Spotlessly clean, bags of character. Plenty of room for family celebration for 6 month old to 75 year old mix. Loved the garden and hot tub and BBQ. Plenty of places to visit nearby. We have already booked for next year. Thank you to friendly helpful hosts.
Jacqui
Fantastic holiday house. We were a party of 11 ages from 23 to 85 and join there was plenty of room for all. The pizza oven, bbq and hot tub were very popular, and lots of seating in the house, and outside. Lovely dog friendly garden for our 2 sausage dogs, and large enough garden area to play games in. Owners were very friendly and welcoming with lots of suggestions for local activities. We would all love to come again and hope to book for next year. BEST HOLIDAY EVER.
Robert
Tempted to give a poor review in the hope that our chances of future bookings will improve but the owners were so welcoming and intent on giving us a great time in their wonderful house and garden that it would be criminal. A large place with so many great features were sure to present a few snags (problems too strong) but these were responded to i mmediately without fuss. Great location and garden for young children with lots more for us older ones. Ideal for for our 3 generation reunion.
Susan
We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Old Beams and are already planning our return visit. the property is spacious, comfortable ad immaculately presented. We couldn't fault it
Jennifer
9 adults and 1 dog had a great catch up and get together. Plenty of room to be together or separate. Beautiful garden and everything you could need. We loved it here
Ian
Notwithstanding the minor issues mentioned above we had a great time in a great venue. A venue that we wholheartedly recommend.
Richard
Old Beams was a fantastic location for our family holiday - the dining conservatory was an incredible space to hang out, the facilities were excellent and the property was kitted out very well. Gill and Jonathan were very attentive, the location is great and we're happy to return in the future, particularly having heard of the future planned develo pments. Would happily recommend to large groups : )
Farouk
So difficult to find accommodation for a large family group, (11, in this case), especially with an age range from 4 to 80+. What a super property which covered all we needed.
Julie
Great house for large gatherings, has 6 good sized bedrooms. Kitchen really well equipped and house comfy and cozy. Lovely surroundings for walkers. The garden is huge great for little ones and big hot tub , a must after a day of walking. Lovely welcome cake and prosecco off the owners a lovely touch.
Keith
This was a wonderful property for our large family gathering. The conservatory was fantastic. Enabling all of us to eat in comfort together. Beautiful garden and hot tub which was used by some of our guests.
Andrew
Lovely property - we visited with a group of friends for a weekend. Relaxing and plenty of quality space to spend time together (with the added benefit of being well equipped and having nice bedrooms). Well placed for taking in the local countryside and fresh air :)
Kerri
What a wonderful, relaxing stay at old beams. Despite the dreary February weather, we had a great week in a beautiful property spending quality time with family. The house was just to our needs where we felt at home within hours of arriving. Gill & Jonathan were great hosts & couldnt have been more accommodating. The location was perfect & accessib le where we enjoyed trekking, cycling & sight-seeing. Very excited to hear about the upcoming house improvements & would love to return next year!!
Marissa
We recently stayed at The Old Beams cottage and absolutely loved it! Its location is perfect for access to lovely walks, the local pubs and small shop. There is plenty of space for 12 adults, plenty of hot water and there is plenty of cooking equipment. The hosts were friendly and helpful. The hot tub is fabulous and very well positioned in a conce aled (from the wind) location in the pretty rear garden. We would like to stay in the summer to make more use of the outside space too.
