Arch Spa Stanhope Castle Reviews

Sheila
Cottage was clean, warm and comfortable. It was not really suitable for anyone, like me, with mobility issues. The over bath shower and bath were unusable, due to the very high sided bath. The outlook was gloomy onto the small shared courtyard. Cottage very convenient for local shops and pub.
Jackie
A lovely beautiful decorated cottage in a nice little village with the added benefit of a hot tub. A well equipped large kitchen, washing machine, 2 comfortable bedrooms, we couldnt get the freesat box to work to watch tv so just watched catch up. Added touches like bathrobes with castle motifs on them along with champagne bucket and glasses. Village has a post office, shop, 3 pubs, Indian, Chinese and fish and chip takeaway along with a tapas restaurant. Parking onsite for just one car but parked a five minute walk up the road no problem. Ideal position to explore Durham and Hadrons Wall.
Glenys
Bathroom very inconvenient, especially for older, smaller people like ourselves. Difficult to get in and out of the bath. Showering unsafe as there was no slip mat in the bath. Extractor fan switch over door, impossible to reach to turn on and off. Insufficient towels, one bath towel each and one hand towel between us is not enough for a week. Also the plug in the washbasin did not fit, so water ran out. Nowhere outside to dry anything, and no dryer in the property.
A splendid cottage in beautiful grounds with easy access to the beauty of county durham. Inside all is perfect, outside the added bonus of a hot tub is fabulous. We will be coming back to Stanhope Arc spa
Stuart
The accommodation was superb. We enjoyed the whole week immensely.
We absolutely loved our stay at Arch Spa. The rooms where perfect and had everything you could need. The hot tub hot and well secluded and a lovely way to relax after days out. Many amazing places to visit within a 45 minute drive and the views where to die for. In the village it self, the pubs where all different from each other and we enjoyed drinks in each, we also ate at the Bonny Moorhen which was lovely food. We also had a takeaway from the Indian which was spot on. A definite if we came again which we most likely will. We also went a little further afield to the Owl and Otter pub and the Sunday lunch there was incredible. A 5 holiday for the 4 of us. Dean & Liz Bowman.

We all had a fantastic stay. The accommodation was first class, very clean and comfortable. Grounds and surrounding area were beautiful and great for our dog who loved it. Would highly recommend the local pub for food The Bonny Moorhen, dogs welcome also! Overall a prefect getaway to recharge the batteries.
Victoria
A fantastic stay. The place is set in beautiful grounds and are very well kept. It was clean and tidy and highly furnished. Hot tub a great addition. The little welcome gifts egg and wine! were a lovely gesture as it was Easter! Good location for walks or short drives to attractions ie Beamish Museum. The only minor thing is to be careful when having a shower as the shower screen sometimes leaked but overall a wonderful shower. Would highly recommend and we will be back soon!
Samantha
Loved our stay
Lovely property with everything you need for that chilled break.
Lovely property, clean, warm and cosy photos very well taken to make size appear bigger than actual. Would've been better described as no pets as there were no facilities to assist with cleaning of dog, so became an obsession to keep everywhere cleandry, therefore avoiding deposit withholdal for muddy carpets etc. Hottub was cold on arrival, would've been nice following a five hour drive to enjoy it on first night. Temperature settings appear tampered with half way through week, as it never got quite hot enough from day 4 onwards. RuthScott seemed lovely & were available when assistance was required during the week.

Excellent service. Everything was clean, serviced and comfortable. Arch Spa is furnished to a very high standard. One of the very very few occasions I have been able to sleep in a comfy bed. Owners were helpful and quickly sorted a ninor issue. Only advice I would suggest is more cleaning facilities, particularly for dog washing if possible to help keep it clean spring the stay, but that's being picky. It was simply excellent.

1 Castle Mews is clean, cosy and very comfortable. Its in an ideal location, quiet yet within easy reach of amenities. Also lots of lovely walks right on your doorstep.
We had a lovely break in Stanhope and the property was a fantastic base for our trip. It's been done up to a really high standard and is very spacious and comfortable. The beds are comfy, the living room is cosy, the kitchen is huge, and the bathroom is lovely. The hot tub was also a great way to wind down after a long walk in the dales. Ruth, who looks after the place, was also really helpful she called me up the week before we arrived to let us know that there'd be a bit of noise outside the house the weekend we arrived because of the annual Stanhope Show we hadn't planned to be there for the Show but it was a nice surprise and she also arranged to return a coat which I left in the cupboard before I even realised I'd forgotten it! The only additional suggestions we'd make would be for a dishwasher in the kitchen there's more than enough cupboard space, perhaps a few more chopping boards, maybe an additional towel rail in the bathroom, and bedside lamps with switches you can actually reach from the bed!
Slight smell of dog downstairs in the property
Cottage was absolutely stunning. Attention to detail was outstanding. Very comfortable, great big hot tub, and a great location. The village is lovely, with 3 pubs 5 minutes walk, and a beautiful bakers, Butchers and coop. We had a fabulous week and will definitely rebook this cottage. The owners were lovely and showed us the house next door they were renovating too. 1010 for sure
This is the second time I've stayed at Stanhope castle lovely place to stay very ... This is the second time I've stayed at Stanhope castle lovely place to stay very relaxing and the accomodation is fantastic will return again
Thank you so much for amazing accommodation that my husband and I could relax in. Just what we needed!
Andrew
Fantastic relaxing break in wonderful surroundings. The hot tub was the icing on the cake perfect to sit back in after long walks in the dales. The cottage was extremely wellpresented and included all amenities required.
Johanna
Beautiful news cottage in lovely surroundings, well equipped, comfortable and a fab hot tub! Highly recommended!
Louise
Great accommodation, kept to a high standard
Gwyneth
Great location, easy access to walks, although a small village has everything you would need, great little chippy, local co op a few minutes away. Just half hours drive to High force waterfalls, awesome views. Lovely pub by the falls fantastic food. If you order the pie its a half hour wait as made from scratch, would highly recommend though.
Amanda
We had a brilliant week in this cottage. Its very luxurious with gorgeous decor and we loved the hot tub too! It was well equipped and cleaned to a very high standard. The area is great, very scenic and lots of places for walking and sightseeing. We enjoyed high force waterfall, Barnard castle and woodland walks. Would highly recommend!
The description and photos of the property were exactly to what we received when we opened the door, lovely place, lovely village with lots to do nearby. Will be booking next year, if not exactly the same property or might try another of the properties in the Stanhope Castle.
We had an excellent week in this cottage which is positioned in an ideal location in the village of Stanhope. Just a short walk takes you to the village square and local shops. Great local walks for the dog and the village is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding countryside. I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage for a holiday in this area of outstanding beauty and interest. My only criticism would be there is no dishwasher which we would have preferred to the washing machine.
Stayed here with friends and family. The cottages were beautiful. Exactly as advertised and decorated to a very high standard. I must add that the beds were the most comfortable I have ever slept in.The detail to finish was excellent. The only draw back for us, was you have to be out of the hot tub by 10pm. Which we totally appreciated as neighbouring with other cottages. However, for us personally we would of preferred to have unlimited use especially as it was classed as a spa lodge The owner was very friendly and did explain the reasons for 10pm time limit. I could highly recommend staying here and would certainly stay again. Thankyou for our amazing stay and great memories of Stanhope Castle.
Pamela
The cottage is lovely and really well equipped we have two young boys and the kitchen was excellent! All the utensils, cutlery, trays etc you need which is great at the moment if youre cautious about eating out. The property was also spotlessly clean with plenty of fresh towels and bed linen. Stanhope is a nice little village with a lovely playground and stepping stones just up from the property but to be honest we used it more as a base. There is so much to do in the area we packed in Raby Castle, Highforce Waterfall, Hamsterley Forests Gruffalo trail and a trip to Beamish. Can also recommend takeout from local tapas restaurant, Che literally the best burgers we have ever eaten! We will definitely be returning to the north east and would stay here again.
Lodge was lovely and nice hottub. Very clean. Only negative comment is we didnt receive a welcome basket like other people have mentioned in their reviews. Nice to be just a 2 min walk from the pubs and shops.
This was a really beautiful cottage! One of the best places we have ever stayed in. Comfy beds, lovely and clean everywhere, well equipped kitchen plus lots of essentials were provided, such as washing up liquid, antibacterial wipes, toilet rolls.. The village of Stanhope had a bakery, greengrocer, butchers, coop, a couple of pubs, fish & chips and an Indian takeaway all a 2 min walk from the cottage. There were several other shops too and a lovely tapas restaurant that you could order takeaway from. The hot tub was nice and it was in a great location for visiting Hadrians Wall, Durham, Hamsterley forest and further afield Bamburgh and Alnwick castles.
Andrew
A lovely cottage stylishly furnished to a high standard. Everything you need for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
Visited in July for a long weekend, the property was amazing and hot tub area fantastic! the Area was lovely and enjoyed lots of long walks by the river and then chilling in the hot tub, perfect weekend. Will definitely return and recommend
The cottage decor was amazing and it had all the things you need in the kitchen The hot tub was great ! Would consider going back
Timothy
I really enjoyed the fact that we skipped the xmas rush and from the minute we stepped foot into the cottage we actually switched off, we also felt at home with all the mod cons very well put together.
Fantastic cottage in a beautiful castle setting. Private hot tub is a massive plus. Spotlessly clean and extremely well stocked with everything you could need. 3 pubs in the village as well as numerous cafes and lovely local shops. Indian, Chinese and fish shop all within 5 mins walk. Highly recommended.
Wonderful hot tub. Delightful welcome basket and very grateful for the provision of dressing gowns! Would love to stay again.
Caroline
One of the best holiday homes ever. Lovely hosts, lovely area and great for walking. Everyone was incredibly friendly. Checkout Che restaurant. What a treat.
Robert
Well equipped very pleasant mews cottage, perfect for our one week stay in Stanhope which was a really nice welcoming small town with plenty near by to entertain both adults and kids, some nice cafes restaurants and some good local shops. Welcome pack a nice touch both the necessities great as we arrived at 9pm and the fizz. Kitchen well equipped with decent cooks knives a pleasant surprise. Would certainly consider coming back!
Kirsty
Lovely week spent here. The welcome basket was much appreciated and the accommodation is very spacious. The bundle of tourist guide info was great to browse through. All rooms are decorated to a high standard. There were lots of utensils etc but a few little extra bits and pieces would make it perfect tea pot, cafetire, fruit bowl, knives for spreading butterjam I know this seems picky but the ones supplied were too sharp for this and we ended up spreading with the back of a spoon!. A Bath mat would be helpful this is a health and safely issue as the tiled floor is very slippy and we had to use hand towels. Would expect a dishwasher in a property of this size but it didnt detract from our enjoyment! Will definitely recommend this property to friends. Lovely decor, great location and easy booking. Thank you!
We had an enjoyable stay at the cottage. One thing I would mention is the address should be 1 Castle Mews The Castle Stanhope Bishop Auckland Durham United Kingdom DL13 2PZ We went to the mews trying to figure out how to get into 3 but actually we were booked in to 1. A few of the windows also had no way to lock shut, including a ground floor kitchen window. We weren't overly concerned as the area was well secluded but it may worry some.
Really nice touches like the welcome basket and bottle. Place was spotless and had everything you need and more. Hot tub was lovely and we all had a great time. Thank you! Highly recommend.
