40 Skiptory Howe Reviews

Generally a very nice lodge and well presented. The hot tub was great and the lodge was well presented. The location and setting was ideal, however several other people as well as ourselves found negotiating the park not easy especially at night with limited signage and lighting. We had an issue with the toilet flush on our visit which was promptly resolved by the owners by use of a local plumber. Our only criticism was the moulddirt build up on the bed bases and bottom of the wardrobe which needs addressing when near outside walls and the lack of dishwasher in the lodge. Apart from that, an enjoyable stay !

We enjoyed a lovely week, 18th August, at Skiptory Howe. The position of the Lodge and the location were great, and enjoyed many morning walks down to the Marina. An added bonus was having the Hot tub. Facilities on site were adequate for our needs. We would definitely book again. If i were to add suggestions perhaps a Hoover, and additional tea towels, being provided, would have been a bonus, however the site does a have a laundrette which we used.
Samantha
We absolutely loved our stay at 40 Skiptory Howe the owners are very lucky people indeed. The property itself is very clean and in a brilliant location on the site one of the best i would argue. The site is close to Ambelside and Windemere and there was so much for us to do. Do not hesitate to book we made amazing memories with our family
Stefan
Very comfortable stay. Other than the weather everything was great. If I were to make a couple of comments is that the Tvs are to high and an electric hoover would of been a lot better than the push along carpet cleaner supplied.
Great place to stay with whole family and pets
Lorraine
The accommodation was really clean and very comfortable, really appreciated the little welcome pick on arrival until we managed to get our shopping in. It was a great location on site for us, nice and quiet. The hot tub was amazing and someone came to maintain every morning. We would definitely recommend and would rebook in the future thank you
I would suggest two improvements as follows The TV provided is old model. Does not give access to Netflix, Sky TV, Screen Sharing etc. Investment of around 300 on TV will be great. The two small bedrooms had 2 single beds I think 2Ft6in which made Bedroom very congested. Consider having a 4ft Bed which is sufficient for most couples.

Great location, lovely lodge We had a lovely stay and the owners sent a very helpful email upon arrival of handy hints. Would definitely return and highly recommend. The only suggestion I have would be perhaps a shower mat for the shower, but as I said great stay and great lodge
Danielle
Me and daughter had the best time at 40 skiptory Howe! The lodge was so clean and homely. The owners Eileen and Graham were absolutely fantastic and so welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be going back. Thank you so much!
Erroll
Absolutely stunning Lodge. Best ever stayed in especially for cleanliness. Would definitely stay here again if we go back. Very comfortable as well and cosy. Only suggestion is for an outside light to be put by the steps as the light outside isnt bright enough to cover the steps. Had to use the car headlights to light up the steps. Two shower heads is brilliant especially the rain head however the shower tray could do with a lip as the bathroom floor floods. Hot tub is a bonus. I never thought I would get in one but it is brilliant. Especially after a day around the lakes. My wife wanted to bring it home. Other than that we had no issues. Everything was perfect. Well done to the owners Eileen and Graham for a perfect lodge. Erroll and Tracey.

Lodge was lovely and clean and smelt amazing. Hot tub was great! Lovely fairy lights around outside. Beds were very comfortable. Lodge had everything you need. Walking distance to Brockhole which is fab! We would definitely book again.
Loved the place second time being here. Booked up for next month again as I remember why I came last year. very comfortable and loved the facilities. TV could do with some form of casting function so can hookup smart devices to play netflix etc. But that is a very minor grumble. One only issue when staying there which isn't the owners fault or real problem with the property was the noisey neighbours they had 3 dogs and were out barking from 4.30am till the owners eventually got up at around 7am please edit this part for online publishing as it's not relevant to the property and more to do with the people who hired the property
This was a beautiful lodge in a fabulous location. Everything was well equipped and perfect. Thank you so much!
Joanne
It is a beautifully decorated comfy lodge, well equipped and just like the photos. I will be recommending it to friends and we do plan on returning. We did have a couple of small problems, the owners got back to me straight away, they had a repair man at the lodge within 10 minutes. the owner drove to lodge the next day to sort the other problem out. Could not have had a better service.
Michelle
Lovely cabin to explore from. When we had problems with the tap and a plug the owner swiftly got people out to resolve it! No wifi but that didnt bother us too much as it meant the teenagers had to talk to one another. Would benefit from a bbq slab and the outside area could do with more than 4 chairs as the cabin sleeps 6. We would definitely book again
Nicola
Beautiful lodge , spotlessly clean and well maintained in an ideal position on a lovely holiday park , we were even left a few essentials such as tea and coffee for our stay , will be coming again ! .
Really lovely lodge, well equipped and decorated. The hot tub was a real bonus much enjoyed, Would definitely book again.
Small lodge, good location. Rude owner who accused us of damaging a cupboard door and then retracted this statement when we disagreed. WiFi does not work.
Dorian
Having had a horrid journey we arrived and found the lodge exactly as described in the write ups and photos, it was lovely and clean and we settled in very quickly and easily and before long were enjoying the benefits of the hot tub. Everything we needed was in the lodge. We had booked the tree top and boat hire from brockhole and as it was so close we walked and used the ferry to get around, other than a day at the zoo. We found everyone helpful during our stay and Eileen was very quick to answer our queries when we needed to get in touch. The site is amazing as a base and we did buy a pass for the family but in all honesty we didnt really need it, we only went swimming once and the movie night, which had to be moved indoors because of the weather, wasnt the best but they did try and get everyone sorted. I would highly recommend this lodge.
There was a light hanging out of the ceiling the bathroom and particular around the shower was mouldy. But worst of all when the old kettle blow the electricity I had to climb over all sorts of rubbish at the back of the lodge to switch it back on. So bad I twisted my ankle and cut my leg. I have pictures
Having stayed in a few lodge's this has to be the best by far. Such a beautiful lodge with very high attention to detail taken with the cleaning before we arrived. The lodge smelt extremely clean with a care package of essential cleaning supplies left in the lodge was much appreciated. It was very well equipped with everything you needed for your stay. Situated on a beautiful plot very quiet with a secure balcony for the children to play safely away from and traffic. From 2 adults who suffer with bad backs we were amazed at the mattress in the master bedroom it was so supportive and maybe the best one we have ever slept on. The hot tub was wonderful and was checked twice a day by a hot tub company for our peace of mind and safety. The owners were lovely and friendly and always on hand to assist with and queries. Can not recommend highly enough we will be returning in the future.
Deborah
Fantastic well appointed lodge and better equipped than what we were expecting great owners who were very welcoming. This lodge has one of the best surrounding space on The White Cross Bay Park. Highly recommend it!
Very comfortable lodge and helpful owners who responded instant when we had a issue. Same was true of the staff on site who sorted a problem with our hot tub the same day we reported the problem to them.
Stephanie
What a holiday. I was expecting the lodge to be nice but it was even better. So spacious, clean, mod cons, and the hot tub was a welcomed edition. Even the location on the site was idea just a few minute walk to main building. the barRestaurant had serviced lovely food, massive portions and and swimming was great too. Very good Covid guidelines adhered too as well. I loved visiting the Lakes and the location of the lodge was so close to everything. We will be back hopefully again very soon.
1 General updating of decoration and basic maintenance required 2 Bathroom toilet seat loose, shower floor leaking with black mold around the bottom 3 All internal bedroom doors had no locking facility 4 Double bed matteress springs sticking up needs replacing 5 2 pair men shorts found in wardrobe 6 Spatula in kitchen unusable 7 Waste paper left on veranda in plant pots When I pay the amount of money for a week I would expect better value, the lodge was well passed its age and is in need of TLC.
Sheenagh
Lodge was clean and comfortable, with all amenities you need for a short stay. Its location on the site is ideal, close to the reception, pool and all facilities, a 10 minute stroll to the lake.
Had a lovely stay, lodge was clean and tidy. Could of done with a hair dryer and a Hoover but thats being very picky! Hot tub was lovely! Beds were very comfy, had all cups, glasses, plates and pans you could need! Will definatley be back
Rachel
Locality to the lakes and towns in the South lakes was spot on. The cabin was faultless. We will definitely be back. Thankyou.
Brenda
The lodge was comfortable but certainly not luxurious and the bedrooms not colourful. It was a luxury having the fabulous hot tub but the lack of a washing machine dryer on site was a let down. I know there is a launderette on site 2 washing machines one of which was out of order but we found it impossible to access this. The beds were very comfortable but the twin rooms were small and lacked adaquate storage. Better quality bedside cabinets would provide enough drawer space for two people. More hooks needed in bedrooms and bathroom. A brush for the outside decking would also be useful. I tried to report fault with mesh on the decking to Sykes via online chat on the app but was told to ring the Sykes number. As I was having problems with my phone signal this was very unhelpful and I couldn't see the point. Overall we had a good, relaxing family break.
Robert
Whilst the lodge was fine the bar seating in the bar and restaurant was not clean at all a bit of a disappointment but that I know is not down to the owner of the lodge overall we enjoyed the holiday.
Terence
White cross bay was a a realy good place to stay, my only concern is a lot of people take dogs and there could be be a fenced off field for dogs to run in. All In all my wife and I our new dog Bella had a great time the cabin had everything we needed and more, we would give it 5 stars for cleanliness. And the hot tub was brilliant heated up and ready to go when we got their. Great break thank you Sykescottages
Titamenji
We had a lovely break over the weekend the cottage was nice and cosy and clean. Other than the fact that we had no water pressure at all on the Sunday and when it did eventually come back it was ice cold for hours, therefore we had to leave without showers. The oqner waa lovely and gave us a bottle and some chocolates. Good choice for us
Very impressed with cleanliness and overall appearance of the lodge. Everything was in very good condition and a minor problem with heating was resolved very quickly by maintenance. Would definitely consider booking again in future.
Sophie
Really enjoyed our stay. The lodge had everything we needed and loved the hot tub! Excellent location, was perfect!
Asked the question about being quiet and was told it was. There was actually a busy A road directly being which was a little noisy. Was also told it was on the end of a row, but it was between two other lodges

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 4 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 10 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 15 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 18 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 21 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 23 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
