Bracken Howe Reviews

Andrew
Definitely a home from home. Extremely comfortable and well laid out. Everything you could possibly need and more. Superb location, very near to all amenities. Owners respond immediately to any questions. This was a perfect fit for our family, 8 adults, 2 children and a toddler I would definitely recommend this property to anyone.
Kathryn
We were a family of eight, including two babies under two, which stayed at wonderful Bracken Howe the 15th to 18th December. We were so delighted on finding the house so beautifully decorated for Christmas when we arrived it was a lovely welcome together with the scrummy welcome hamper to this charming, comfortable, wellequipped and wellpositioned nineteenth century house. The character of the house with its original features, yet fully modernised and equipped, was delightful. The weather was pretty grim, but we expect that in the Lakes in December! It would not stop us recommending Bracken Howe at any time of the year. Thank you Phil and Janet for a wonderful weeekend.
This was another great family week at Bracken Howe in glorious Ambleside and we feel it is now our second home. The house is grandly spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Cold sunny days and we still made good use of the hot tub every day.
Valerie
This was the best holiday house we have ever stayed in. It had a lovely atmosphere, a warm hot tub, plenty of toys & games, complimentary toiletries, and a fantastic Welcome hamper. There was a lovely view of Loughrigg fell and we were fortunate in having a week of beautiful weather to sit outside and relax. Plenty of walks from the house with no need for a car.
Alison
Amazing place to stay to celebrate a special birthday with friends. We were all blown away with the comfort, atmosphere and facilities. The hot tub was fabulous. We have stayed in the Lakes for 30 years now and this is one of the best places we have ever stayed. Thank you
Muriel
A stunning property set in a great location to base yourself for all things outdoors. Very comfortable, highly maintained, and very beautiful interior. I can genuinely not pick any fault with this property. A party of 8 very satisfied guests.
A very well and thoughtfully maintained property. Very convenient for shopsrestaurantspubs in Ambleside. An excellent base for walking and exploring the wider Lake District.

We had a great stay at Bracken Howe for grandparents and two families with young grandchildren. Fantastic house which was very roomy and well equipped. Also a great central location for town and local amenities' and scenery...
Lovely property, ideally located in a quiet street very close to Ambleside Town Centre. The property is spacious, very well appointed with highend appliances and bedding, quiet and relaxing. There is parking for 4 cars easily on the driveway and a multitude of pubs, shops and restaurants a very short walk from the property. Coupled with the fact that there are many walk options from the front door this was an ideal property for a walking group such as ours
Caroline
We really enjoyed our holiday in Bracken Howe, its a well equipped and very comfortable house in the perfect location, close to the centre of Ambleside but quiet. The hot tub was lovely to use at the end of a day on the fells and we enjoyed view over the park as we enjoyed some bbqs.
Sally Pryde -
A good location close to centre of Ambleside and easy access to lots of walks and activities. Property well equipped to cope with 8 adults and accommodate needs of three infants under 2 years of age.
Seward Party -
The accurate description was spot on. Spacious rooms, many with glorious views. Top quality furniture and bedding. Extremely clean & well presented. Good parking and lovely private garden.
Bone Party -
One of the nicest, well equipped places we have stayed in with a great location
Wandle Party -
Having the whole family together in such a great house with all the comforts & facilities and in such a convenient location. Our elder daughter, who did most of the cooking for us all, just loved the kitchen and all the equipment. We all loved the flowers and the welcome pack.
Clark Party -
The location is excellent. Very central for lots of restaurants and close to lots of activities for families
Gilmour Party -
The accommodation was of a very high standard and the facilities were excellent. The age range of the party was from 2 to 71 and there was plenty for everybody to do. The big attraction was that it was close to the town centre but the outside play areas and the hot tub were also well enjoyed

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 1 Mile
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 7 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 18 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 19 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 20 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 25 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
