Carter Ground Barn Reviews

Anne-Marie
Beautiful house, plenty of room, if taking a young child might be worth taking a travel cot. Otherwise, plenty of room, televisions, log burners. Plenty of bathrooms too.
Debbie
This was a very beautiful house which was clean and well kitted with towels and bedding. The rooms were big yet made to feel homely, with wood for fires. Highly recommended
Clare
Amazing lodge we absolutely loved it- clean & well equipped- friendly lady showed us around and made sure we were all ok - 100% recommend
Nicola
Outside furniture falling to pieces Cleanliness poor and glasswork dirty especially bedroom windows / mezzanine The hot tub wasnt cleaned after last residents full of grit /sand. The cleaner was still at the property when we arrived and stayed till 5:45pm on day of departure she was there at 9;25am ? why? She left gate wide open knowing we had two Read moredogs outside. Lots of drawers, handles, broken. Shower downstairs unfit for use. Glass tables hazardous in living room. View amazing wouldnt go aga Hide

The property is set in a beautiful location, ideal for those seeking peace and tranquility which is presumably the key element in the costly rental. However, there is still a need for some general maintenance to reflect the intended luxury feel of such a majestic building. Plastic wine glasses, cheap towels and bed linen are a disappointment. Some Read moreof the showers and televisions and ill-fitting doors need attention. Hide

Our party of 7 had a fabulous week in this stunning location. The house is fantastic, very clean, and the views to the sea are amazing. We all loved the hot tub - elemental when raining! The road is indeed narrow but thankfully hardly used and added to the generally dreamy atmosphere. We had a great Sunday lunch at the Queens Head in Hawkshead and the boys loved the wild swimming round about. Can recommend a wonderful 10k circular walk around Duddon Valley with Newfield Inn halfway along.
Karen
This place is stunning and amazing location if you love the countryside! Great for dogs as big secure garden. Coniston lake and sile Croft beach not far away and are lovely! Hot tub was very lovely addition. Would recommend staying here but quite few things broken and not useable in the house upon arrival which was a shame. Tried calling tel no lef t but no answer and no bed linen for spare bed/duvet/pillows
James
If you are only looking for a bed to sleep in as you intend to go walking everyday, this will work. If you are looking for luxury (as advertised) and somewhere safe and clean for kids to play around, look elsewhere. It might be worthwhile checking Facebook and Twitter for some of the truthful reviews about this property.
Lorraine
We had a wonderful week, we came as a family of 8 and there was more than enough space, also lots of space for the dogs to relax and explore outside in a secure garden. Location is so peaceful and the perfect place to unwind. Facilities were great, hot tub was a bonus. We would highly recommend and definitely would stay again when Im the area.
Jennifer
Stunning location with the most beautiful views. We were happy to sit for ages just relaxing and admiring the scenery. The tiny road to the nearest village is slightly tricky, but the price you pay for a lovely remote location. Hot tub was lovely and the house is very well equipped. Can recommend the bakery in Broughton! We couldnt find any info ab out the advertised nearby fishing
Sarah
Amazing place breathtaking views too
Hayley
Absolutely lovely house Lots of kitchen equipment for cooking Lovely hot tub Views are incredible from most of the rooms Quite remote but a nice walk down the lanes to the pub which is fab
Kirsti
What a wonderful place! The views are unbelievable, the space is so comfortable (and warm!) and the house is very well-equipped. The garden is enclosed and the hot tub is very nice! While the access is long & narrow, the parking is generous. The host & holidaycottages.co.uk were both responsive & helpful answering questions when we had them.
Becky
Smashing place in a wonderful spot in a fabulous part of the country. Great views, lots of space, well equipped kitchen Good sized bedrooms (3-en-suite) clean hot tub! Lovely warm with underfloor heating and fires too if you choose. Great walks from the house so no need to drive, good pub nearby.
Trevor
Absolutely beautiful. Very comfortable, picturesque and relaxing. Very dog friendly with large fenced in gardens to let the dogs mooch to their hearts content.
Amy
Lovely cottage which has just recently had fresh paint and carpets throughout. It is very comfortable with lots of space. Excellent towels, comfy beds and laundry really make this place feel like home. The kitchen is the heart of the house. The log fire in the sitting room is very forgiving and we were able to enjoy a lovely fire every night with l ittle effort. It is off the beaten path so expect single lane farm roads to get there and I would avoid arriving after dark! Also Amazing views!!!
David
Absolutely Bob on ! The road to it is a bit tight in places, but the reward is fantastic. This house is a lived in place were families have come and enjoyed the place. No body can complain about the view or the 3 pubs that provide excellent food. The nearby small town of Broughton Mills has everything you need. Plenty of walks to explore with the d ogs. We had family and friends stay, nobody complained we will be back. David Rachael and family.
Melissa
We absolutely loved our stay. The house is beautiful and plenty big enough for our party of 7 and 3 dogs. The dogs enjoyed the garden and we could rest easy that they couldnt get out as the garden is lovely and enclosed. Very secluded location with only 2 small properties close by. The views from the mountain next to the property were amazing, we w ent up there a few times to see them
Lance
Location is lovely however this property is dated, the beds are cheap and really uncomfortable. If your looking for a relaxing sleep look somewhere else. The washing machine and dryer do not work, the bathrooms are half finished and some of the showers do not work. No outside bins provided and the entrance the property grounds looks a landfill as b in bags havent been collected. There are lose/broken tiles in the lounger as well. My recommendation is book somewhere else as this is not worth it
Janet
The location is unbelievable, the details make ono mention of the fact that you can see the see , lakeland fells and hills and valley from all the bedrooms and the main rooms of the house. We could not take our eyes of that view. But no hot water, except the electric showers in 2 bthrooms, the shower in the master ensuite a trickle with instruction s to turn on the hot water in the sink then run the shower (which did work), the hosue not clean, nor the cutlery or crockery. Garden enclosed.
John
The location is exceptional; off the beaten track, private, with spectacular views and the freedom to walk a right of way from the gate. We are a three generation family with several dogs, and all appreciated the space inside, and especially the well maintained and securely fenced grounds. The property is cleaned to a good standard and the furnitur e in the shared living spaces is appropriate and comfortable, but the crockery and kitchen equipment should be improved and updated..
Chris
2nd year booking this time with friends rather than family. House better suited for adults rather than with young families. House nicely in the back of beyond and off the beaten track. Excellent overall set up.
Peter
Stunning property in a spectacular albeit remote location. Lack of a welcome pack was disappointing in a high end rental. The accommodation was comfortable and the jacuzzi was glorious at the end of a days exploring the delights of the Lake District. The experience at this cottage was slightly marred by a lack of attention to detail eg only 5 wine glasses. The shower in the master bedroom was useless, producing only a trickle of cold water. Great property in a fabulous location but some niggles
Wendy
Absolutely stunning rural location. You never tire of the view. Great outdoor space. We enjoyed sitting in the patio and eating by the bbq. Fabulous kitchen space. Living room was perfect. Master bedroom suite wow. Loved watching the lambs in the surrounding fields. The bird life was lovely we heard cuckoos and owls and saw woodpeckers and many sma ll birds. Great selection of books and dvds too.
Catherine
Carter Ground Barn was a fantastic place to stay: absolutely beautiful setting with amazing views from enormous windows out across the valley to the distant sea, which meant that even on rainy days, we didn't feel trapped indoors. We loved the remote setting - quiet except for sheep and an owl - and being able to walk straight from the door without using the car, but we were within 45 minutes' drive of lots of interesting places: Brantwood, Cartmel Priory, the Ruskin Museum in Coniston etc.
Kayleigh
Beautiful views! Large, spacious cottage. Fabulous pub 1.5 miles away from. Had a lovely time with the family.
Vikki
Absolutely brilliant stay at Carter Ground Barn. Middle of nowhere with outstanding views. Extremely clean and lovely and warm for such a big property. The WiFi was great all throughout the property which was a nice surprise! Hot tub was clean and functioning. The garden is a great size and all enclosed so the dogs could roam free. Brilliant time h ad by all
Michaela
Beautiful place and setting Road to it terrible but thats the price you pay for the remoteness Definitely not 5 it is poorly maintained Hot tub not the best make sure you check the water yourself Garden is actually enclosed and huge but small or determined dogs will find a way out Fantastic wood burner when you find the logs (behind the shed) Did have a very peaceful and relaxing time here its so quiet bear in mind though if you want dog walking there is sheep absolutely everywhere
Bev
Make sure you realise the property is very much away from any sizeable village so a car is needed especially if you have children
Jasmine
Beautiful idyllic setting. Isolated but well worth the drive. Large enclosed garden great for our three dogs. Property very spacious. Designed to gain the best benefit of the fantastic views over the countryside. We would stay again and enjoyed our break

South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 10 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 12 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 18 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 19 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 21 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 24 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
