This is by far the best holiday home we have been in, and we have been in a few. The house was fabulous, wanting for nothing and very clean. In our party we had a family of five adults and our German shepherd dog. The garden was excellent for the dog and for games in the garden. Walks can be made from the house to the beach using a quiet lanes. Not to mention the local lakes that can be walked around. The people in the local village are very friendly as well.

Paula
Me and my family loved it. The house is stunning, very clean, very equipped with everything you need for cooking and cleaning. The garden is beautiful and much bigger than first expected. The hot tub was great, climbing frame and swings for the kids, loads of toys and books to keep the kids occupied. On arrival we was given a welcome basket with ch ampagne, bread, cheese and even dog treats which was very generous. The beach and supermarket was only 10 mins drive from the house which was perfect.
Sarah
Beautiful house, very comfortable beds. Clean. Lots of storage areas - the separate utility room was great! Kitchen was well equipped. Hot tub was amazing and we used it everyday. The garage had a games table in it which my eldest loved. The climbing frame and swings were great for the youngest and the play house. The beach is a two minute drive aw ay with plenty of free parking! The showers were powerful and hot! The area is very peaceful except the odd tractor going past. We had a great time.
Alexander
Fantastic space to let you heat up and wind down with the different places to visit around the area. Also serves as a brilliant place to be if just wanting a quiet down, giving a great variation of spaces to relax between the lounge, comfortable rooms, the garden or hot tub!
Michelle
What a beautiful find. Booked this lodge after coming across it on holiday cottages, for a surprise family get together for a joint family celebration. Castlegate did not disappoint, the house catered for all needs and it was well equipped. We arrived to a lovely hamper of fizz, treats and doggy treats too. My family thoroughly enjoyed there stay t oo. Not a lot happening in the location, but we had a nice day out on the beach of allonby.
Scott
Really nice cottage with great facilities. Only issue to be aware of is location. You definitely need a car as there is no pub or restaurant in the village. But overall well worth a stay. The beech (1 miles away) is beautiful
Marion
A fabulous holiday cottage. Beautifully decorated and so well equipped for a family holiday. Lots of space for everyone and homely. So many wee extras and a much appreciated welcome pack. The garden was child and pet safe with several seating areas. A new childrens activity swing and climbing section. The hot tub area was situated to be secluded an d shaded. Beach 2 miles away was an added bonus. We shall definitely return.
Jennifer
We stayed for a long weekend and had a fabulous time, despite very wet Lakeland weather! Castlegate House is a beautiful property and was spotlessly clean. We had plenty space for 4 adults and 3 children and the garden was fantastic. Weve stayed in lots of holiday cottages over the years and I have a tendency to be picky, but Castlegate was brillia nt. We hope to return in summer and make better use of the outdoor space. Thanks especially for the hamper & boxes of toys which the children loved.

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 8 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 20 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 20 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 23 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ
about 25 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 26 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
