Hazel - Woodland Cottages Reviews

Thank you for a lovely stay. Easy communication with host. Great info pack. Will be looking into staying with you again!

What a lovely property the children loved it we were very comfortable and how ... What a lovely property the children loved it we were very comfortable and how nice to relax in the hot tub after lots of climbing
Pauline
The cottage and location are amazing! Beds supercomfy! Hot tub very relaxing after a day out! In general the facilities were amazing though there were a few things tha could definitely be improved on. For example there were no small kitchen knives essential for many cooking tasks, no small glasses useful for fruit juice, only 3 plastic glasses! Most of the baking traysroasting tins need throwing away rusty and or scratched to bits, there were insufficient casseroles serving dishes. Only 2 casseroles and only one had lid! There was a colandersieve with a hole in the base might as well throw that out too and the large frying pan needs to be looked at the handle was loose and my husband tightened it so we could use it. A filter coffee machine would be useful and less messy than the cafetiere.
We stayed in Hazel cottage for a weekend, there were 3 families of four so 6 adults and 6 children. The cottage was perfect. The layout is really good with the open plan kitchen and dining area which has an extra area with a sofa and tv. The room at the back with the log burner was really nice and we could easily watch the kids in the hot tub which they absolutely loved. The bedrooms are really nice and you can ask for twins or double beds before you arrive. The location is great and really close to all the local attractions, we walked into town one day which was a nice walk. The only criticism I would have is when you search for properties on Sykes and Hazel comes up it clearly states no pets but when we arrived there were dog treats in the house and some old towels for drying dogs so we could have taken ours but instead we left them at home being looked after. It was a bit disappointing as its great to walk your dog in the lakes. One more tiny detail is the walk in the information pack in the cottage is not very easy to follow, the directions are wrong and it basically stops directions before you get to the town. It was a great weekend though and we will be staying again in the future.
Excellent accommodation for a large family. Comfortable, clean and spacious with everything we needed. Couple of small things that need attention are the grill on oven just smokes when turned on and the shaving socket in family room did not work. Other than that was exceptional. Thank you.
Harold
Great property with loads of space for our group 8adults, 2 children lots of bathrooms and toilets which is important for larger groups. Well located for walking or a quick drive into Bowness. Recommend the Brant fell walk.

Had a wonderful stay in Hazel cottage, Very well equipped. Lovely welcome pack. Peaceful location and handy for exploring the Lakes. Only one thing to mention, was surprised that there weren't stairgates to keep our toddler safe. Perhaps these were something I should have requested ?
Samantha
The pictures do not do this cottage justice, it was lovely inside with beautiful grounds and even though there are other cottages nearby it didn't feel as though there were. Beds were very comfy and the staff very helpful, delivering our meat packs straight to the fridge. It takes around 30 minutes to walk into Bowness which as a group we were fine with. We would definitely stay again.
Overall stay was amazing, lovely place. More toilet paper could have been provided, not even 2 full rolls per bathroom. The ability to change the temperature would have been handy as it was extremely hot the entire time.
Kathryn
Absolutely outstanding. I wasnt really sure what to expect as the photos arent a true reality of what you get. What you get far outweighs the photos. Every inch of our lodge was clean and very well stocked with essentials I.e teacoffeecleaning essentials which was a nice touch compared to the likes of Center Parcs. Beautiful apartment, friendly and responsive staff. Beds are AMAZING, so comfortable and beautifully clean. Thanks so much, a perfect place to meet up with familyfriends. Would highly recommend and would love to return in the future.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Hazel Cottage. We were a group of 12 friends and there was plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for all of us. The beds were really comfortable and all except one could be separated to limit bed sharing! The kitchen was well equipped and open plan to the dining area to make catering a social event. We loved the hot tub, perfect for warming up after our swims in Windermere. We'd highly recommend staying at Hazel cottage, situated within walking distance of Bowness

Exemplary cottage, had all the facilities as stated on the listing. i required a downstairs living area, and i got that, with plenty of space to manoeuvre. i asked the owners for a ramp, to bring my wheelchair into the property and that was done with ease and no fuss. When i phoned the owner, he was very polite and easy to talk to, and helped us out, so very grateful to THE OAKS and will happily like to come again. If there was anything i would change it would be better if WIFI across the whole property, was consistently good, as it dropped a lot, and the seating areas had little or no connection. also directions to use the washing MachineDryer, as we had to guess parts of it. Thank You Ashraf

We booked the cottage for 2 families. The cottage was beautiful and so clean and the facilities provided were excellent. The rooms were comfy an spacious. Kids really enjoyed the hot tub an the large garden to play. Wonderful staff an customer care any issues were dealt with straight away.Already planning our next stay.
Excellent stay, very clean and amenities provided. Great place for a large group to stay, with no ample space. Beautiful location, very close to the town. Cant fault it !
Great property for a large group. Loads of seating Hot tub good fun. Gave the visiting ducks names
Victoria
10 of us visited for the weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday! We had such a fabulous weekend, the house is fabulous, hot tub great, beds comfy. The only thing we would criticise is the door locking system, there was an incident whilst we were there which we feel couldve been avoided had the door had a proper lock rather than a key card system.
Our whole holiday was 5 star, the comfortable roomy cottage Hazel, hot tub, cleanliness, facilities even the weather. Cant wait to return.
Great location and all roomsfurniture modern and roomy, i would recommend new photos of downstairs dining table etc as think the place is better than the photos and we were all pleasantly suprised at how it looked. Only negative was Hot tub was extremely hot and some of the party could not use. Everything else was great will come again for sure,
Daniel
House was amazing, we had 4 families, 3 of which had little ones and it was perfect for own space and each bedroom having own bathroomshower facilities! Location fantastic as only 1 mile from Bowness! This place as everything you need, iron, travel cot, high chair, etc! Only thing missing was bin liners! Sheep and ducks visit every morning out the back of the cottage! Would certainly recommend this place!!!
Impressive property, attention to detail and better and bigger in real life. Would definitely recommend!
Brogan
I cant wait to book this property again. I actually cant pick a fault with anything at all. The cleanliness was outstanding, the beds were super comfy, very spacious, the location was great!
Richard
Beautiful property in lovely surroundings for a friends reunion. Very central to so many locations. Beds comfortable, good en suites and plenty of crockery and pans etc. Enjoyed the hot tub and the visiting ducks.
Malcolm
Lovely big house, great for a large family. We really enjoyed our holiday.
Cottage was spacious and well equipped but was let down by the outside space.
The 50 potential fine was rather surprising if sheets etc werent bagged. Your information stated that there was no parking and nearest parking was 150 yds or meters. There is parking so should be updated I think. First aid kit out of date. Holes in my pillow. Awful plastic flowering the sitting area why?. Back door to the garden area would not lock very well makes cottage not totally secure Induction hob yet one pan not useable on induction Staff very helpful Great location
Graeme
Fantastic cottage and could not find any faults.
Antony
Perhaps upgrade the sofas, as someone who has back pain its important to have good quality seating. Small issue just a suggestion other than tgat just what we needed
We would definitely recommend this cottage, it was a really lovely place to stay, it has comfy beds and was really well equipped, the hot tub was really clean and all the instructions were clear.
Mohsin
The cottage was lovely, clean and spacious. I highly recommend this cottage. 5 minutes drive form the lake and shops.
We had a great time and the cottage was exactly what we needed. All rooms spacious and well equipped. The kitchen was clean and had everything we needed for a large group. Grounds were well kept and great for the kids. We would highly recommend the oaks to anyone
Louise
Great location, lovely cottage, clean and a lovely touch of some cakes on arrival.
Great cottage for family gathering. All bedrooms and ensuites excellent. Kitchen well fitted and a very sociable space. Would certainly book again.
Deborah
The house was absolutely beautiful and very clean. The only thing I would recommend is maybe a cover or gazebo for the hot tub as the weather wasnt very good but other than that everything was perfect! Also the homemade scones they made for arrival were delicious and a lovely touch.
Geraldine
The cottage is perfect for a large group. The rooms are clean and spacious. The kitchen is stocked with all necessary utensils. Outside, the hot tub is a lovely addition. The cottage is set in tranquil and beautiful surroundings. A perfect place for a getaway!
We were 4 generations of family sharing this accommodation, including 2 octogenarians and a 4 month old baby, and found the facilities, space and layout was suitable for all. The location is very good, merely 5 minutes drive from Bowness and within easy reach of the many attractions the area has to offer. We enjoyed the hot tub and our regular visits from the ducks. The telephone contacts prior to the holiday, and staff on arrival, were all very friendly and helpful. The only disappointment was the downstairs twin bedroom, which I would say is only suitable for children. All other bedrooms have plenty of wardrobe and drawer storage with dressing table and mirror area, plus ensuite facilities. The downstairs twin room, which has shared bathroom facilities, has very little storage, no shelf or dressing table area and no mirror, which made it difficult for my wife when drying hair, applying makeup etc. Nevertheless, we would certainly return and have already recommended the cottage to others. Re question below on publishing my feedback I have no request for you to publish my feedback but do not object if you wish to do so.
Jacqueline
Hazel cottage in the oaks woodland site was exceptional. Cottage was exactly as shown in the website. Very well equipped for 10 people with enough space to have quiet moments. Garden and hot tub great the kids and adults alike all enjoyed relaxing after busy days sightseeing and enjoying all the lakes have to offer. Great base as very close to all the attractions being around 2025 from the site. Staff were very helpful and responded to getting rid of a wasp nest immediately and helping move grocery delivery from main house when delivered there in error. Would definitely be back.
The Cottage was first class the staff were amazing the place was lovely. Will definitely be back
Fantastic holiday home beautifully equipped and spacious in a quiet and peaceful location perfect!
We really enjoyed our break away, with the girls. Perfect location and the fixtures and furnishing are to a high standard. Very clean and plenty of facilities. The hot tub was amazing! Will be returning
Weve stayed before as a group of 10 at rowan and loved it, so this was our second trip, with a newborn baby, to Hazel! Everything about it was great for our group. The only comments I feel I need to make for improvement are, the shower in a bedroom upstairs was blocked and that meant the shower tray filled up. There was no potato peeler made the roast challenging and the door frame of the patio door was so gone there was a huge gap around the door that you could see outside. In the JanFeb weather that made the mornings in the lounge cold which wasnt ideal for the baby. Overall though these are minor feedback things that I just wanted to mention rather than complain about

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 7 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 12 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 16 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 19 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 26 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
