High Holme Reviews

Bryn
Fantastic location. Nether Wasdale is a special hamlet in a special valley. The house has a wonderful elevated place with views over to Ill Gill. In hot weather we found it overly warm as only a few windows can be opened and I also felt, for the cost, it could do with a lick of paint and carpet clean. The garden is something of a safe haven for bot h children and dogs and lots of time was spent in the hot tub. Please note that The Screes pub has not reopened since Covid.
Georgette
Absolutely great property, it has everything you could need. From cooking facilities, bbq, fire pit, to games and activities for both kids and adults. The hot tub was ready to go when we got there, and it was great to have sky for the sports lovers! The location is fantastic, with the pub a 2mins walk, scarfell pike, the beach and the lake. Small m inor being a gap in the fence line behind the bamboo garden and our escape artist of a dog found it. However, would definitely go back.
Lindsey
What a fantastic week the 9 of us had. The accommodation was excellent. . It catered for us all, 2.5 years up to 79years. The lower garden was a great place for the little ones to run around and the secret bamboo garden was exploring fun for them. The friendly phone call from the owner on arrival showed care that we were happy with everything. It w as so good, weve booked for next year.
Rachel
High Holme was a delight to stay at. Stunning views from the huge windows and literally 2 minutes walk down the road to the pub. House is very comfortable and well equipped - large garden, hot tub and games room were a hit with the teenagers. Quieter, slower area of the Lake District that wed love to return to.
Derek
A beautiful setting, gorgeous gardens, views and a great hot tub! Perfect cottage for a big family celebration.
Lee
One of the best most beautiful cottages I have ever stayed in . Had absolutely everything. Everything you needed to know was in the red book . All round fantastic stay many thanks Lee
Gillian
Amazing, value for money, the owner calls and makes sure you're OK. 5 star experience
Clare
The location is idyllic and the house easily accommodates 10 people. The festive touches were very much appreciated too. Hot tub is great after an arduous day's hiking and the big kitchen makes feeding the family very easy. Some of the plumbing has a bit of a mind of its own which was probably the only downside
Jacqueline
Beautiful house with everyone catered for . There was 10 of us ranging from 17 month to 60 year old (6 adults 5 children). Games room and hot tub was a big hit . Comfy beds, easy parking , local walks . Perfect long weekend. Thankyou for helping making great family memories for a 60 th birthday.
Sue
Loved the cottage! Masses of room for a family gathering. We stayed over the weekend of 5 November 2022 and there were 6 adults and three under fives so there was plenty of rooms for us. We were able to take our dog too which was an added bonus. The house is extremely well equipped. The gardens are lovely and it was nice to spend a few hours in the hot tub when it had stopped raining! Location fab as there are two pubs a spit away albeit only one was open. Beautiful location! Would recommend!
Christine
The perfect place for a family celebration. The accommodation is well equipped, the garden is lovely and the views amazing!
Susan
This was an ideal location for a family get together, with lovely scenery & walking opportunities. The bedrooms were comfortable. The lounge was large enough to sit us all comfortably. The kitchen was clean & well equipped. We didn't use the games room, because we were blessed with lovely weather, but it looked good. The hot tub was glorious. The f lat garden was ideal for outside games, with games & deckchairs & a BBQ in the shed. Cafe's and pubs, an easy stroll away were real bonus.
Janet
Lovely property, beautiful setting. Cleaning not to a high standard.
ROGER
Location is ideal for outdoor activities, and being on the quieter unspoilt part of the Lake District makes this house an ideal holiday location. The house was perfect for our family get together and the layout of the house, large garden and the hot tub meant that all three generations were catered for. The location of the pubs in the village was t he icing on the cake.
Alan
Excellent cottage in an excellent location.
Liza
Fabulous holiday in a beautiful location. Cannot recommend enough. Local pubs are lovely and great local walks. Just beautiful
Mark
The photos on the website looked fantastic and when we got there it was even better! Shortly after we arrived the owner rang us with helpful information about the property and the area ie things to do / where to eat etc. which was thoughtful. They also left a wonderful basket of provisions for us!. We had read the reviews before we arrived, so knew the only criticism was that people could not rebook as always fully booked - so we rebooked for next year whilst we were still there! Simply perfect!
Gillian
Amazing, amazing so clean, well stocked, comfy, amazing facilities and views thank you
Wendy
This is an amazing cottage! Kitchen is great, plenty of utensils, plates, cups etc. Theres a large fridge freezer as well as an under counter fridge. Bedrooms have plenty of storage and beds were comfortable. TVs in every room & Sky inc Sports in lounge. Screes was a nice pub less than one min down road which serves food but need to book if large g roup. Wastwater was only 1.5 miles away and was stunning. We will definitely return and hopefully be able to use the hot tub in dryer weather.
Laura
Absolutely loved the cottage we are looking at re-booking but cant find a date thats free its no wonder as the price is reasonable and location is brilliant for walking and exploring the surrounding area
Graham
Excellent property and location. Plenty of equipment in kitchen and drying facilities for wet clothes! Spacious for a group, wildlife on doorstep. Owner phoned to check we had arrived and all ok and gave us some local knowledge etc. Would definitely recommend to others.

Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 18 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 18 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 18 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 28 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
