Lakeside at Louper Weir Reviews

Be very careful staying at this property! There was a storm when we stayed there last week and they are trying to blame us for breaking the electric gates! As if a person could push the gate and break the mechanism! They have took 900 out my back for a good housekeeping bond and trying to charge an extra 2200 for something a storm caused! It seems like the owner try's anything to get money back! Total disgrace.
This is a spectacularly located house on the shore of Lake Windermere. The spec is high and the outlook impressive. The kayaks and lake access and hot tub are the cherries on top. However like guests before us there were just a few niggles. We arrived early and was told that on no terms we can get in there early as the owners are very strict about this. We had to return 3 times to get keys. It might be better to say the house wont be ready until 4pm? Any way that got the holiday started on a sour note. Otherwise the only issue is there is no microwave in the kitchen when all the blurb said there was. It is one of those things you only miss when you havent got it. We had lots of youngsters with us so could cope with the tech. Can imagine older people like us struggling. The builders next door were very discreet except we couldnt work out how to lower the blinds in one of the bathrooms! All in all a lovely stay n would defo return.
The house is a lovely in reality as in the photos. It was perfect for the 6 of us. Finding a property either three king sized beds all ensuite is rare and Lakeside had 4! The building noise was audible but didnt impact us. There was no bad language heard. However, the weather wasn't good enough to sit outside. The level of gadgetry runs to a little on the high side but we managed and it all worked. There is no comfortable seating area to chat. Both rooms focus on the tvs. So the kitchen ranle was used a lot. The main issue is noise travelling within the house. It goes from down to up and across between upstairs rooms. It does not go downstairs., which when you are calling for help is a problem. A place for adults to relax and enjoy.
The property is superb and we had a great time, despite the rain. Our only issue was with the underfloor heating in the main bedroom as this would not come on and the Sonos system due to the instructions suggesting that we should download and use the app on our own devices rather than using the tablet in the corner of the kitchen. I did report this to Sykes Cottages on the Tuesday but heard nothing back from them.

We booked the stay for much needed recuperation after my husbands recent chemotherapy. However, although we were very much looking forward to the stay, we were very disappointed and would not book the property again for the following reasons weeks after our visit and without our knowledge we were charged 192 for a faint lipstick mark on a duvet Im sure a bit of Vanish would have done the trick! and 4.50 for a supposed broken Prosecco glass that we didnt smash. They also waived a 45 fee for a broken tripod, again we have no idea about. We have stayed in many beautiful properties over the years and have never had this happen to us before. We left the property clean, tidy and respected it during our stay. the building works next door were very imposing. The master bedroom has two sided glass walls, with beautiful views of the lake and the building works next door! from 8am 430pm the workmen could see right into the bedroom. I was caught in my underwear the first morning which was very embarrassing. The blinds are electronic and you cannot close just one side, so we had to keep all of the master bedroom blinds closed throughout our stay. the noise of the works was very loud from 8am 430pm so we could not relax outside in the day. Also, there was a lot of foul language from the workmen we have a 3 year old. I love to cook, but the size of the oven and hob was caravan sized so I struggled to make a big family meal. we had good weather but with all of the glass the property was exceptionally hot and we only had 2 fans for 2 bedrooms. It was unbearably hot at night, the couples in the hot rooms didnt sleep a wink. We tried to rotate the fans. We did try to get more fans for the property but were told we were lucky to have 2. the main sliding concertina doors to the patio dining area were out of order there are a lot of cameras outside the property so we felt a little watched. There is one on the master bedroom balcony so it didnt feel very private when we were sat taking in the the views at night. We use lakelovers a lot and spend a lot of money on stays, regrettably this is our most disappointing stay to date. Which given the reason for our stay, was very unfortunate for my husband.
Michael
This property is beautiful the amenities are spot on theres just a few things that need addressing the bifold doors in the kitchen dont work the barbecue doesnt work the light shades in the kitchen need cleaning out there full of flys, and theres building work next door so up early every day dont get me wrong this doesnt spoil anything the places is first rate perfect fall the family.
This was an amazing property. Immaculately clean. The use of the kayaks was an added benefit. We had the best time. Just be warned the garden and access road are very steep.
Lorraine
Stunning property with idyllic location. Gardens and outdoor space beautiful. Thank you for kayak use great fun. Interiors beautiful and every little touch was so appreciated . We loved our stay . House just wonderful. Thank you
Robert
Overall we had a very enjoyable stay. We havent given full marks above as there were a few niggles which some of our party had. It would be helpful if there were clearer instructions for things such as the coffee machine. If you have never used one you could quite easily damage it. We also had problems with the Sonos system. However, the cleaner was able to help us. They also sorted out the gas for the barbecue which was empty. We asked for another fan as one of the bedrooms has no opening windows and this was brought very quickly. The previous guests had broken a chair and also damaged another one. They had also damaged the bifold doors although it is appreciated this could not be rectified before we arrived. There were a couple of cleaning issues such as the dining table light which the cleaners said they would sort. As other guests have said there are a lot of cobwebs too. One other thing I was asked to mention is it would have been helpful to have up to date information leaflets on the area. When booking other properties in this price range we have received a welcome pack. As we said some of these are helpful suggestions and would not stop us from staying again
Beautifully decorated and equipped home with the most amazing view. We had three generations of family and there was lots of space for us all to do our own thing. We will definitely be booking again. Driveway was scary on first drive but did get used to it although Im not sure I would drive it will leave that to my husband. The size and position of the entrance was very awkwardtight. We drive a Volvo XC90 and our son has an Audi Q5. Not sure we could have parked any more cars as it would have stopped us being able to manoeuvre in and out of the gate. Spent the majority of our stay sat looking at the view and watching our children grown up in the canoes. Took hundreds of photos of the sunset, just breathtaking.
Darren
Our second time staying here but unfortunately until the building works are completed and the bifold doors fixed we wont be booking again. From the other reviews it seems the doors have been broken for a long time which isnt acceptable considering the cost. We had lovely weather but couldnt open the doors to make the most of it, and the other set kept jamming up with the rubber seal. The other downside was the building work. This was going on in 2020 when we stayed and to be fair it didnt really bother us then, but this time the builders were right outside the property for most of the week with machinery running constantly and a disc cutter going most of the time. Although they try to keep to themselves its impossible to enjoy the patio and garden area with the noise and dust. Also the two ring hob for a house this size is nuts, and I think we found one frying pan. Overall this is a fantastic house in a fantastic setting and waking up to the lake every morning is amazing, if you dont mind builders looking at you in the bedroom or bathroom. Like I said once building work is complete and doors fixed I would recommend this house to anyone.
Elaine
This is a property furnished to an extremely high standard and the pictures do not entirely do it justice. The facilities and the views are amazing, the location is excellent. There were a few niggles, I will put the most important below, but please do not let these put you off, it was a truly amazing property and we would definitely go back. Niggles Lots of cobwebs, the ceilings are really high and I should imagine this is an ongoing problem. The bedroom with the balcony needs a window that can be opened. It has bifold doors, which cannot be opened properly because the bed is in the way, plus you cannot have the door open when the blinds are down. This means there is no ventilation. It was only 18c outside when we were there, but the room reached 28c. The Quooker tap is dangerous, fortunately there is also a kettle available, The tap spits and splutters, so would easily scaled. We have a different brand hot tap at home and it does not spit like this one, so I think the tap needs replacing. There are kayaks to use, but a couple are not really usable.
Philip
Great property beautifully decorated and furnished. Lovely views onto Lake Windermere. Some small maintenance issues that just need to be addressed such as some light bulbs not working, quooker boiling water tap was turned off and needs maintenance, Tassimo coffee machine needs maintenancecleaning and automatic bin lid batteries need replacing to make it workall small things, but shows a lack of detail orientation with Sykes. But overall, a great stay!
We have stayed at Louper Weir previously but not during the Winter months , unfortunately our stay was tainted by the condition of the drive way on our arrival and departure. On both occasions the drive way was impassable beyond the entrance to the properties at the top of the drive way. There was insufficient grit available to grit the drive way and as a result we had to leave 2 of the cars on the road for the week and hand ball our luggage and provisions up and down the driveway. We also had 2 members in the party who were over 75 and they had to navigate getting up and down the drive way on foot in very tricky conditions. The drive way should have been gritted daily during the freezing conditions and not left for the occupants to have to navigate round the issue. We wont be rebooking again unless assurances are provided that this issue is resolved.
Sarah Louise
Beautiful house, perfect location we had the best stay with family. As described and better! The family loved kayaking on lake Windermere
Had the best time with my family here . . It has everything you need, the walk down to the lake was my favourite we kayaked and had swim then warmed up after in hot tub x the kitchen was large and spacious with everything you need and cooked many meals together with an amazing view onto the lakeside perfect! Everything about this place is just amazing and loved every second and made many great memories that will last forever. Thankyou
Absolutely amazing ! !! Stunning location, very friendly helpful housekeeper sorted our problems quickly. Well equipped and Immaculately clean. The only real problem was the bedroom with only a bath. It has no opening windows and was unbearably hot. We only used it for 2 nights but had someone needed to use it for the week it would have been a real problem. The same room would benefit from a shower.. We had an amazing week, thank you
Robert
Overall we had an enjoyable stay but longterm issues dont seem to have been dealt with. The bifold doors do not open, which I believe have been broken for a year, only the adjacent door opens but grates when you open it. Only having two hot plates for eight people is unreasonable, luckily there was only five of us but this still gave us problems. Despite phoning me to say that the housekeeper would be coming with a maintenance man on Thursday to replace a broken mirror in a bathroom, nobody came. The two rear bedrooms are incredibly hot despite fans in both rooms. I know all the cupboards conceal lots of things but we never did find the microwave!
Cedric
Would have got 5 stars. But no microwave, only 2 ring hob for a sleeps 8 property. No DVD Blueray player as listed and no instructions to operate cinema surround sound in cinema room. Also could benefit from some sun loungers. But fantastic property and views over Windermere fantastic.
Antony
We have stayed in this fabulous house three times. The facilities are first class and the location is brilliant, sat right on the lake. It is frustrating that you only get one set of keys which also operate the electric gate which is at the top of a long driveway. This means that you need to agree times of return with the rest of your family otherwise you cannot access the grounds or the house so you are kept outside on a busy road. The house was also very hot as it has lots of glazing to enjoy the views. The bedrooms especially with one room having no opening windows or ventilation.
Adrian
Had a fantastic time and property was everything I wanted for me and the family.
So good I immediately booked again for next year. Not much more to add really.
Catherine
Brilliant property, lovely views across Lake Windermere. Very clean, and we eventually found various items for cooking in the many cupboards. Beds were comfy, but 4th bedroom does not have a shower as stated in property details. The couple in this bedroom had to share everyone else's shower we couldn't swap as we are are all 'older' people and the baths to difficult to get out of!! The cinema room and snug were great, as we often wanted to watch different programmes. Due to the gales on Friday 26th, and the widespread power cuts, we were unable to enter the property until Mon 29th Nov, and the central heating was difficult to alter so we found it quite cold, until it was altered for us. We would definitely recommend this property to rent.
Nicola
We had one of the most memorable special family and friends break away. The house was outstanding. The views were absolutely breathtaking. The weather was on our side too. However there was just a couple of points to report...there was no gas for the Barbecue. The Bifold Doors did not open and close without force. The building work going on next door to us was not a problem at all with noise. But to wake up in the morning we wanted to see the beautiful views from our bedroom window with some privacy. Thanks again for the happy memories that we will treasure as a family forever.
The location of the house was brilliant, right on the lake and the inclusion of the kayaks was something we enjoyed even in October! All the rooms were a lovely size and included plenty of soft towels and two bathrobes in each room which was a nice touch. The kitchen was fully stocked with any gadget youd be familiar with at home. We had two families staying in the house and the only thing I would suggest to consider is the driveway parking. We were able to get two cars out the front of the house but we had to manoeuvre round the gate entrance each time one car wanted to leave so if there were more than two cars this may be more challenging. There is an additional parking space on the winding driveway and you could get a car parked up by the road. With this house being designed for up to 4 couples we only had one gate entrance key, so on the occasions that we wanted to go out separate we had to agree who would be back first to open the gate which was a slight inconvenience as there was no way down to the property unless you left the side door open on the latch. We had a slight issue with the electric gate on arrival and we couldnt seem to easily see any out of hours support which was frustrating. We got a call back at about 1pm the following day so if we were really stuck then this was far too late to be helpful. The battery in the electric gate key was not connecting properly so we were unable to open the gate upon arrival however it wasnt until the morning that we realised this was our issue. The instructions mentioned a triangle fob which we did not have so we thought this was our issue.
Antony
This is the second time we have stayed in this superb property and have already booked again for next year. The house was very hot and we could not find a window key to unlock the window in the front bedroom, it had the sun on it most of the afternoon so became very warm by night time. Also, there is a blu ray DVD stated on the website and we could not find a DVD player ? The BBQ had no gas which was a real shame but I understand there is a supply chain issue but it would have been nice to know beforehand.
Nicola
Trouble using the heating and in the middle of July we didnt need the bathroom radiators on but had no choice! !
Phillip
Excellent location on the lake
What a beautiful holiday home which provided everything for our stay, from sumptuous soft towels to the use of canoes with life jackets for 4. The scenery is stunning, and hot tub was serviced everyday. There is some building work close by but the workers were so respectful and did not start any noisy work until after 900am, we did not notice them at all, thank you guys. We would certainly visit again to experience a property that provides a den for the younger members of our family, a Party Room with 60inch TV to watch Euros Football, and a kitchen dinning space to enjoy family dinning and drinks together for all. We are looking forward already to our next stay, thank you.
Campbell
Superb setting watching the sun set over Coniston Old Man.
Daniel
Amazing views and location
Antony
Fantastic accommodation in an amazing location. We had a full week of sunshine which is a first in the Lake District for us. The building work next door is a massive job but the builders were respectful of us and it did not spoil our experience as we were out most of the time they were working.
A fantastic location with facilities that want for nothing. We had a great time and would definitely recommend a stay.
Norman
Thank you so much I cant begin to explain how brilliant this house is, by far the best facilities we have ever had or probably will have it was just a fantastic place to stay , the scenery was breathtaking , the hot tub was fantastic only downside was the weather but even that did not spoil a fantastic stay , thank you very much Sykes for the opportunity to visit this wonderful place .
Campbell
As I explained to you there was no welcome pack on arrival and the whole house was cold as the heating hadn't been turned up for our arrival. There was no teapot or basics light cling film and tinfoil. There should be more cutlery and plates. Other than that a very nice house. Just needs a little more attention to detail to bring it up to 5 star

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 8 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 11 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 14 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 14 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 17 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 27 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
