Tarn Lodge Reviews

Louise
Absolutely 5. A little hidden gem. The property is comfortable, clean, well equipped and in a beautiful setting just a few minutes drive away from Bowness. Gorgeous views over the Tarn, and daily visits from the ducks! Sarah is very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Would recommend 100.
Gareth
Perfect location for the family we will be definitely coming back .
Fantastic property with exceptional facilities.
Deirdre
The Lodge was just what I hoped for. Good location, comfortable, clean, well equipped

The advert is misleading. This isn't a private, quiet, holiday location. It's overlooked by four other properties. We had to listen to drunken idiots most evenings it felt like a budget holiday park. The people who carry out the daily checks on the hot tub don't access it from the rear of the property ??!!, they bimble directly across the front, looking straight into the living room. A guy on a tractor turned up to mow our lawn, whilst we were trying to grab some sun and get a baby to sleep at lunchtime on our last day. The rear of the property is an absolute mess of metal fencing, as they're clearly building something. The garden furniture on the decking is very oldshoddy. One of the chairs stained my wife's tshirt with rust. Despite the fact they have Sky at the property, they don't subscribe to any channels. As a result, on the days we were housebound, due to the weather, we couldn't even watch TV. The single beds are absolutely TINY. They're meant for children, so don't make the same mistake as us and assume that adults could sleep in them. I was insulted that after the week we had, and amount it cost, they had the audacity to leave a note instructing us to strip all the beds on the way out. I could go on, but I've made my point. I was not at all impressed considering I paid 2500 to stay at the property. It wasn't private, it wasn't relaxing, it wasn't worth the money. The owners need to be HONEST in their advertising and charge a lot less for what felt like a Butlins at times. We wouldn't stay there again if it was free.
Beautiful lodge in a lovely setting. However, we were concerned that the Plug in Air Freshener in the hall had been left switched on, it was completely empty and on removal very hot. As reported in the press these air fresheners are fire hazards when left switched on when empty !!!!! After unplugging it we removed the refills so hopefully it will not get used until new refills have been added.
We had the most wonderful stay this is our second year staying in this property and we just can't fault it. The garden is amazing and the children spent so much time playing on it the lodge is so well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a week away and it's in a great location too not far from Bowness. It's lovely to sit in the hot tub in the evenings. We will definitely be back again.
Frances
The lodge was spotless and had everything we needed for a week long stay. Beautiful and peaceful location but still an easy walk in to Bowness. Will definitely be coming back!
Fantastic place and location.
Heather
Very impressive location and accommodation. Well equipped kitchen and loved the log burning fire. Clean and was perfect for our holiday.
We absolutely loved the lodge and thought it comfortable and well stocked. As the weather was cold the log fire was an absolute bonus. We saw plenty of wild life including deer in front of the lodge, rabbits, bird of prey and numerous pheasants. Whilst it is not completely isolated we were not disturbed by neighbouring properties at all. Whilst the walk into Bowness was doable, not all our party could manage the uphill walk back. That might be worth a mention or I could have just missed it !. We would love to go back.
Kimberley
Had a great stay at Tarn Lodge. It had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Great to listen to the birds in the morning. The only thing I can mention as a negative is we were there for a week and on the Friday to Monday there were groups in the cottages at the side. On two of the nights it sounded like they were having a rave. This is more inconsiderate people than the owners fault.
Valerie
Fab lodge , every thing you might need , great quality bedding , well equipped kitchen and fantastic hot tub. Only minor moans really , couldnt get Netflix etc to work , kept telling us no internet connection . Pictures dont show the row of cottages and view of their hot tubs to the left of the property , should imagine quite noisy when fully booked as we could clearly hear people when sat on our terrace. The final thing which prevented us booking again for next year is what looks like future building above and behind the lodge , such a shame .
Charlotte
Superb lodge in beautiful surroundings and lovely quiet setting. We loved the daily visits from the ducks! Really well equipped, clean and comfortable. Things were provided which we wouldnt have expected such as soap, dishwasher tablets, tea bags and coffee. It was a nice touch that Grasmere gingerbread had been left for us on our arrival. Hot tub was amazing, really relaxing and enjoyable after a day spent walking. Great location for exploring the Lake District. Couldnt fault it in any way.
A delightfully located modern holiday lodge that is very well equipped for five people sharing. The main kitchendinersitting area is comfortable and well laid out, which makes catering easy. The bedrooms were spacious with plenty of storage. The bath and shower rooms were modern and clean. Plenty of birdlife around for those interested in nature and we were able to watch the tribulations of the mother ducks trying to raise their families of very cute ducklings, despite the depredations of the local buzzards. Overall, one of the nicest lodges we have ever rented.
dianne
Excellent holiday, lodge is top notch. However, if I had a criticism the WiFi could be improved. At times it was painfully slow Im guessing the WiFi was being shared with the other accommodations adjacent to the lodge.
We had an excellent stay at Tarn Lodge and have recommended to family and friends. Martin was brilliant and couldn't do enough for us and always with a smile and a nod. This lodge was honestly amazing and everything within it was done to such a high standard no skimping took place with this property! Due to the hot weather, two small things did occur to us as possible additions for next summer. One would be an overhead light above the dining table and the other would be to add an awning across some of the decking area to allow some shade on the hot days. Many many thanks for this lodge. It was absolutely wonderful.
Stephanie
An excellent holiday and a great lodge. Will definitely return
A very clean, well located and spacious property. Everything you need is there plus a hot tub!
We had a brilliant stay in tarn lodge. The accomodation is beautiful and well kept. We loved the garden lots of space for the kids to run around and nice and close to local amenities in bowness. We have already booked for the same time next year!
Matthew
An exceptional lodge to stay in had everything we need for a weekend away. Definitely looking to return!
The lodge was immaculately clean and was in a beautiful location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Louise
Absolute gem of a property. Perfectly positioned for visiting the lakes but away from the hustle and bustle. Beautiful, comfortable and well equipped lodge in stunning surroundings. Couldnt ask for more. Cant wait to return.
This is our second visit to Tarn Lodge after an amazing visit in 2020. It's fair to say 2021 was just as amazing! We love this place, a real home from home that allows you to completely relax. Your close enough to Bowness to enjoy the hustle and bustle yet far enough away to enjoy peace and quiet in the fabulous grounds of The Oaks estate. Our daily morning visit from the local ducks was a real treat and my daughter loved feeding them. We are already looking at returning for 2022! I would highly recommend this place to anyone!
The lodge it was very clean and raily nice i will be going back its a lovely lodge
A very High end Lodge, in a peaceful setting. Beautifully furnished and decorated. Very comfortable beds. Lovely hot tub overlooking a small duck pond.
Charlotte
We have just come back from our break in the Lake District and it was perfect! Tarn Lodge is absolutely stunning in a fantastic location. We had everything we needed and more. Very helpful instructions, easy check in and out. The lodge was spotless and fantastically laid out. We will 100 be booking again for another lovely Lake District holiday for our family.
Dianne
We booked this holiday for a restful chilled break, it did not disappoint. The lodge is close enough to Bowness to walk into but far enough out of the town to feel like we were away from everything! Beautiful setting in peaceful surroundings. The lodge was very comfortable and spotlessly clean with particular attention to covid guidelines. The arrival pack was very welcome. We will definitely book again
Beautiful tranquil location close to many lovely walks and places to visit.
I booked this lodge after my wife found it online searching for a 'staycation' given everything that's going on at the moment and what a find this was! A truly stunning lodge that has everything you need to create a home from home. The hot tub was certainly an added bonus allowing us to relax after a day in Bowness or experiencing some of the local walks and attractions. The lodge has gorgeous views over looking the pond and a fabulous decking area to enjoy the sunsets. We had an amazing week and shed a few tears when we had to leave! We willl be back
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Tarn Lodge. The property was well equipped and even contained items that were not listed to be included, so it exceeded our expectations. We were provided with a Guest Information Book prior to our stay and this was very useful to us throughout our stay it had information about the local amenities as well as walking trails, taxi numbers with discount codes and recommendations. The property itself was very clean and the view over the lake was beautiful. I would highly recommend the Lodge for family and friends to stay in and I would also visit again!
We were kept waiting for details of voucherrefund due to Covid. Not acceptable. Our original holiday date was in June but we had to move to September which we weren't very pleased about. After first use of hot tub my adult daughter developed a severe rash. This concerned us very much. Disappointingly we did not use the hot tub again ? because of the use of certain chemicals. This had never happened before to her having used one many many times. The rash has still not disappeared completely a week later. However, lodge except hot tub was lovely and very comfortable. All very modern and exceptionally clean with Covid instructions etc. It was in a very nice position near a pond but you do need a car to get around.
Fabulous property and really enjoyed our week there . Very relaxing , couple of wishes would be a television in master bedroom , a parasol for the decking area and an awning for the hot tub , other than that its perfect!
Melville
Lovely lodge. Really nicely designed and built lodge with tasteful decor throughout. Pleasing view of pond, but watch out for the hotel guests next door who row boats on the pond they can see directly into your property. Ducks come and visit, but don't stay to annoy. Quality hottub, neatly hidden out of view of other guests watch shooting stars and milk way on a clear night. Great appliances of special note is the oven it's big and fast and accurate cooking kettle also very fast. Some utensils that the lodge could have benefited from include, Pizza slicer, Ice cream scoop, sieve but otherwise well equipped. Comfortable beds, but if you your kids wake with daylight, be ware that the daylight gets in due to the curtains position bring your own blackout blinds or use a towel to cover the windows. Also be aware that the other guest lodges which are perpendicular to this lodge look directly on to your decking and outdoor table & chairs and as a consequence of their position relative to yours, the sound from them carries straight to your lodge we found this a little more intrusive than it should be, which might be mitigated by putting up trees to break the sound carrying. Other things to note is that there is no outdoor storage attached to your lodge for things like bikes it would have benefited from secure bike storage. Finally note that there is building construction taking place of an additional four lodges immediately above this one the construction was dormant whilst we were there, but presumably the owners will construct the addition lodges, and that will generate significant noise and disruption. Other than these things, we had a great stay it is a genuinely lovely place.
We loved this lodge and found it completely amazing thank you the views are amazing very relaxing especially after lots of walking the lodge is fully equipped to meet all your needs perfectly beautiful place.
Other than the living area when we had the wood burner on, the building was very cold for the 2 days we stayed. when we arrived the radiators were warm but the building was cold so we turned them to the max setting. that was the last time they came on. towels were still wet the next morning and the building was cold.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 7 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 12 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 16 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 19 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 26 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
