Yew - Woodland Cottages Reviews

Amelia
This is our 4th time staying at the oaks cottages, we have stayed in a different cottage on each of our stays. The cottage was lovely, clean and comfortable. The views and relaxing in the hot tub is a great way to end your busy days. The staff are really helpful and lots of little added extras when we arrived including local produce and coffee in a welcome pack. I would definitely recommend this holiday for families the location is quiet and peaceful and not far to walk, drive or take a taxi to Bowness and the lake. I am sure we will be back again for another family holiday soon.
Yew cottage was beautiful, comfortable and spacious. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and even cooked a roast dinner! Id read that certain things werent provided like tea towels and oven gloves but these were there for our use. One useful item would be to add a dishcloth to wipe the sides and dining table after meals. Ducks were frequent visitors to the delight of my daughter, theyd all gathered around one day whilst we were in the hot tub! The walk into town was not what we expected, I thought either itd be a road or quite a straight path through fields but the main road has no pavement and too dangerous and the countryside walk had lots of left and right turns. Brant fell is a pleasant walk you can do from the cottage. The main improvement would be the washing machine and dryer, it took so long to dry our clothes and we were relying on it. I think Lake Lovers policy of guests having to take out the rubbish and strip all the beds needs to be reviewed, we did this at 4am before a 78 hour drive and have never had to do that before.

Great cottage, hot tub was amazing, spacious and overall 1010 cannot complain. Would happily return. Potential Improvements 1. Just to manage our expectations, would be good to update the listing and binder with the 1025pm hot tub shut off time instead of 11pm but no problems there. 2. WiFi was hit and miss, it was slow and did stop working 2 of the evenings but minor inconvenience. 3. Some utensils and some pans weren't properly clean but again minor inconvenience. Overall, nothing to really complain about, was a lovely area and very close to town. Sarah and Jo were very responsive whenever we had a question so thanks to the both of them. Log Burner was amazing too, loved it. Look forward to returning in the future.
Clean, comfy, well equipped, info for directions, about places to see, visit, ... Clean, comfy, well equipped, info for directions, about places to see, visit, all about the cottage, was good, good communication with the emails that was sent, thank you
Very clean and well laid out property to meet our needs. We were particularly impressed with the extent of kitchen accessories and childrens plastic platescups together with cot, gate and highchair. The property was perfect for us, hot tub well managed, towels provided and utility room was a great addition with further facilities. Grounds were lovely and very peaceful, ducks, pheasants and little bunnies paying a visit. Our stay was excellent, the simple things of nice furniture in bedrooms, mirrors at the right hight with plug sockets nearby and great lighting cannot be underestimated. All in all an excellent stay, Im sure we will return.
Nice sized accommodation. Easy parking. Quiet location. We loved the hot tub. Well equipped kitchen. Could do with a colander. Comfy seating. Good sized dining table. Bedrooms nice and beds comfortable. General cleanliness was satisfactory. Utility room a great asset for larger families. Fridgefreezer appreciated. Minor things to improve Utility room door did not fit and therefore would not lock. One of the kitchen cupboard doors was loose. Downstairs bedroom had spiders in all 4 corners when we arrived. Downstairs shower room also had cobwebs clearly visible. Mop head supplied was not compatible with mop handle!
Christine
A very comfortable cottage. It was lovely and bright with skylight windows. It was very well equipped and the hot tub was great. Unfortunately we never discovered the utility room until the last day when I asked about the hot tub towels. Maybe this useful space and bigger fridgefreezer could be pointed out when people arrive in case the same thing were to happen to others. The lady in the office on the Thursday morning was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and passed on information to us regarding paddle boarding and where to head which we did and had a great day. The cottage has lovely surrounds, very green with lots of wildlife, the ducks were frequent visitors. Its also very close to Bowness which is a good base to explore the lake district, do expect to spend quite a lot of time on the roads though due to traffic in the busy summer months and lots of single track roads which do help to preserve this beautiful area. We had a lovely stay. Thankyou. Christine.

Everything was as advertised. Clearly prepped to a high standard and plenty of information as to how to leave the property and the surrounding amenities. Beds were really comfy and the shower very invigorating. Hot tub was lush and was checked each day by site team member. Thank you, we would come again.l
Sophie
The property was fantastic! I really appreciated the items teacoffee, dish soap etc. that had been given to us. We all enjoyed our stay very much, and would certainly return if we happen to be in that area!
This holiday was perfect. The cottage was spotless on arrival and had a lovely feel to it. We felt relaxed straight away. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped. Lots of walks from the doorstep and the hot tub was fantastic and was also spotless. Very generous treat of gingerbread went down well and also the starter kit for the fire was very generous. Although the log burner did seem to make the whole cottage smell smoky. Other than that I can't fault the place. Especially during a power cut due to the storm when the management sorted out a tea van to come and get everyone hot drinks. Lovely touch. We will hopefully be back.
Ovidijus
Amazing place in quiet and peaceful location. Already thinking about coming back here in future.
Denise
This is the second time we have stayed x We will definitely be coming back
Good staff at woodland estate
Lovely cottage. It was very clean and had everything in it that we needed. Lots of space. The hot tub was fab. Its was just a short walk into bowness. Would definitely stay again. Only negative was the upstairs toilet at times had a smell of drains so had to keep the window open.
We had a great holiday and the accommodation was good. It could do with more cutlery, glasses and mugs we kept having to put the dishwasher on as per the advice to ensure we had clean items for the next meal. Very impressed at the cleaning of the hot tub at the end of our stay and the daily checks on the levels in the tub. There was also a cesspit smell in the upstairs rooms at times
Lauren
Had a lovely family holiday here. It is in a great location.
Annaleise
A lovely Cottage with lots of space, super clean and with everything you could need for your stay. The hot tub is an added bonus. Location is perfect for days out. We did walk into town with the children and they managed the hill heading back so you could easily leave your car and head out the day. Would definitely book again.
It's a beautiful clean cottage quiet location and the hot tub was amazing I would 100 come back to yew cottage
Debbie
We had a wonderful holiday in the Lake District. The accommodation was fantastic and the on site team so friendly and helpful. Throughly recommended! Thank you
Great holiday, extremely clean and good service when WiFi dipped out.
This is the second time we stayed in yew Cottage although it was the first time in the lake District for the couple who were staying with us. Everything lived up to what we had experienced the first time and def seemed to exceed what the other couples expectations were of the cottage.
The cottage was fantastic, very clean and nice furnishings. Key collection was easy and there were brownies and a lit Xmas tree on arrival very nice! We really had a fantastic week, thankyou! John
Cynthia
We all had a lovely time, everything was perfect, the beds so comfortable, lovely to see all the wildlife outside, especially the deer.
Brenda
Yew Cottage was a perfect place to stay. It was very clean, well equipped, good wifi, and a wonderful hot tub. This was checked each day and on the morning we left it was been emptied and cleaned for the next guests. Separate fluffy towels were supplied for use with the hot tub. We found the property private and quiet surrounded by the countryside. There were rabbits, birds and deer that were right outside. There is a separate room with washerdryer and big fridgefreezer. It was also an ideal room to leave our walking boots and wet jackets to dry out. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
Excellent cottage & facilities. The only problem was a drains smell in the upstairs toilet & the key cards not being active on departure day. We had to contact the office to unlock the utility room to retrieve drying swimwear etc. Otherwise a lovely visit.
Samantha
Yew cottage was an excellent place to stay, the whole cottage was immaculate and the facilities were excellent. We couldn't have asked for anything more. I contacted Lorna from Sykes to see if we could arrange a late checkout as we were taking part in a triathlon in the morning we checked out and we wanted to be able to return to the cottage for a shower. Lorna was fantastic and she managed to arrange with the cleaners that we could return to the cottage for a short period of time to have a shower. Lorna really went above and beyond and we will definitely be staying with Sykes again and recommending them to our friends and family.
Great place to stay. Location is perfect and a 5 min drive to bowness shops etc... loved our stay only regret was not booking longer than 3 days. We will be back next year 100
Was very clean and comfortable and the hot tub was excellent. The garden area is shared but the patios are screened off to next door, by a small fence and it can be noisy as you are very close to the other lodges... we got on well with the group next door but I could see it being an issue if all outdoors together. Take toilet rolls with you and there was not a huge amount of serving dishes.
Weekend away 8th March to 10th March The cottage was lovely and clean very comfortable couldnt fault anything. All facilities and equipment was there. Very close walk into BownessonWindermere. Lots of information given in the welcome book and lovely little welcome pack left. Good walks available. Beds were really comfortable and shower very good. Heating and log fire excellent used due to chilly weather. Hot tub was good nice and clean and hot. As we departed on the Sunday we were allowed to leave at whatever time we wanted which was a bonus instead of the usual 10am check out. Overall a brilliant weekend away. Would defo recommend thank you
From arriving to leaving everything went smoothly ,staff we polite and very helpful. The overall standard of all the rooms and bathrooms were of a high standard. The welcome pack and book was very much worth the read and would recommend anyone to make sure they read this it was very helpful from order taxi to know where to go and eat. The kitchen was a very good standard there wasn't anything we missed to be able to stay for our long weekend. The welcome pack with the fudge ,mints etc was a lovely touch and very welcoming from us all. Plenty of towels and I like that you have the other towels for the hot tub. I have already recommended the place to my work colleagues and family, any future visits will definitely be looking at your website if not the place to come back to. Thank you again for a lovely stay and was nice to visit somewhere and not have any issues
Debbie
My friends and I had a most enjoyable stay at this cottage. The cleanliness of the property was exceptional and we were delighted to have been treated to Kendal mInt cake and some locally home made fudge. Unfortunately we had two complaints. The modern hive heating system failed to work. On the Sunday I tried phoning the office and mobile number to no avail. I then sent a text message to the mobile number and eventually we were contacted. We were told to wait half an hour for it to work but it didn't so I rang again and told to wait another half an hour but still no joy. However, we discovered the following morning on our departure, from Martin, that the boiler needed rebooting! We would not have been able to reboot the boiler as a key was required! The other complaint was the smell coming from the two upstairs bathrooms. We think the cesspit was beside our cottage. Also, you may wish to update your cottage description. All three double bedrooms converted into twin rooms but when the booking was made the description stated that only two doubles converted to twins. A friend who could have stayed ended up booking a local B and B for two nights. Although we had these issues we did have an enjoyable stay and the hot tub helped keep us warm! Would recommend to family and friends.

Lovely cottage with everything provided for a lovely stay. The hot tub was such a treat after a day on our feet walking the hills and fells. Just perfect for us! Highly recommend these cottages.
We all had a faboulous holiday. The cottage was lovely. Could have done with a waste bin in the bedroom. Would highly recommend and would stay their again.
Maxine
Everything about this holiday cottage was 100, lovely setting , all facilities and very clean and top quality. Very peaceful and relaxing surroundings
Laurie
The location of the cottage was excellent, well within walking distance of Bowness Even for a member of our group who wasn't a walking fan. The hot tub was superb, and the kitchen well stocked with everything you'd need. A particular highlight was the single bedroom usually the worst room, but absolutely lovely here. I've already suggested the place to a few friends!
Superb cottage in lovely peaceful location but not far from the town of bowness ... Superb cottage in lovely peaceful location but not far from the town of bowness on windermere Cottage has all facilities require for a relaxing holiday and staff on hand were always friendly and helpful

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 7 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 12 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 16 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 19 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 26 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
