We chose the Rascarrel Bay Lodge purely by chance when browsing. The reality was as hood if not better than anticipated. Our stay coincided with a really dry / hot early September but I'm confident that this lodge and location would be perfect regardless of time of year or weather. As a base to explore the region and with decent supply points withiRead moren easy reach it made a perfect retreat.... and the sunrise was to die for! Hide

A fantastic place to unwind and relax.
Kathryn
Splendid location; Lodge cleaned within an inch of its life, hot tub checked each day and one of the best beds we have ever slept in. Easy of access and sufficiently isolated. Owners invariably helpful and knowledgeable. The litany of praise could go on and on . . . .
Graeme
Lights out in hot tub and kitchen out side stair to hot tub broken bit tired exterior think money needs spent to up grade but generally very nice
Cathy
The 6th time at No.1 or No.2 lodge and always a pleasure to be there. Knowing everything is provided and spotless, so we can just move in. Recommend the Auchencairn Store, 5 min drive, for all provisions, freshly baked sourdough bread, cakes, etc., organic items, fresh veg and includes cafe. Plus booked takeaways of brilliant pizza, curries (frozen ones available) and fish and chips. Fri, Sat, Mon evenings in winter - more at other times. Check out their Facebook page for details.
Mark
Wonderful location and generally a nice property but a few niggles that we would not have expected for the price. We would consider going back but would hope the issues reported to the owner would not happen again.
Heather
RASC1 is a lovely lodge in a situation that is just sublime. Right next to the rocky part of the beach so rock pools were spectacular as the tided receded.. The rocks behind the lodge provided shelter so even in the worst wind we were warm enough in t-shirts. Only one other lodge was visible from ours so it was very private. Saw the sunrise a coupl e of mornings. Breathtaking. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Friendly helpful owners. We recommend the fish and chips from Auchencairn.
Elizabeth
Spectacular views. So peaceful and picturesque. Dark skies, great for stargazing.
Sally

Well maintained lodge which was cleaned to a high standard. The lodge was well equipped and offered generous welcome goodies which were much appreciated. The location is beautiful and extremely quiet and peaceful. The hot tub was a real bonus and it was reassuring to have it checked each morning. We would love to return.
Rob
This is the place to be should you wish to have a peaceful break. The views from the lodges are all breathtaking no matter the weather. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay perfect. Very comfortable accommodation. Nice firm bed. Kitchen well equipped with everything you might need. Sun loungers for use supplied which was great ma king it even more comfortable. Lots of lovely coastal and country walks-no need to travel anywhere should you not wish to. It was simply idyllic.
Michael
Rascarrel Lodge 1 was the best equipped, most luxurious, and certainly the most peaceful location you could wish for. We were very fortunate to have great weather for the week and caught views of seals, red kites and a red squirrel. If you are thinking of going.....go. you won't be disappointed. The hot tub is a bonus.
Karen
Beautiful lodge set in a lovely little cove with glorious views. Floor to ceiling windows too. Lodge 1 is the most private with no vehicles driving past it. Its well equipped with hot tub and everything you need for a peaceful relaxing break away from the stresses of life. Within good driving distance of local towns with cute wee gift shops and sup ermarkets. Good walks on your doorstep with the opportunity see lots of wildlife including seals and see birds. Definitely recommend.
Karen
5 star Lodge, 5 star location and 5 star hosts - nothing is too much trouble The location is so beautiful and peaceful, the perfect place to unwind and the view is spectacular in any season or weather
Sumayya
It's a slice of heaven on earth. The landscape changes so dramatically and we just sit back in awe. So peaceful and quiet you feel like you're in a world of your own .
Kathryn
The holiday and the lodge were a delight, secluded setting yet easy to find. The bay itself performed magnificently, sunny, moody, misty and always magnificent. The lodge too was a delight, hyper clean, light and airy in the best "modernist" way. The hot tub was carefully maintained each day and had, perhaps, one of the best views in Scotland. The countryside round about and the local towns surprised us with their variety and charm; the whole holiday entirely blissful.
David
The lodge is beautiful, comfortable and very clean. We went nowhere, just walked locally, enjoyed the hot tub, the view and read books. Bring bottled water and note that the WiFi is 4Mbs at best if you want to stream anything.
Elizabeth
3rd time in lodge 1 we liked it because it was so private immaculately clean and everything you need but now this time a lot of walkers use a path right by the side of the lodge where your hot tub and sunbathing area is so felt wee bit intrusive this time, may have been because of Easter holiday, weather was great have never been there and not had nice weather might be because of the bay location cant fault this place though.
Julia
Stunning location with everything you need for a relaxing holiday.
Laura
Wow. What a holiday. We stayed in lodge 1. Very secluded and close to the private beach. The lodge was beautiful and very clean. The owners thought of everything. Making it less stressful when it comes to cooking and cleaning. We enjoyed watching the stars in the hot tub and relaxing by the fire at night. 100% will be returning to this beautiful lo cation in the future.
Andrew
Thank you for a really wonderful stay - clean, comfy, welcoming, well equipped lodge No. 1. Beautiful location and views, great walks around the area. Thanks for providing a hair drier and plenty of towels, and so useful to have access to washing machine, tumble drier and airer! Note that the gas oven flame is at the bottom (we took a while to figu re that out!).
Derek
A wonderful discovery in an interesting location. Stunning scenery from the wide lodge windows. The only markdown is the distance from amenities...however, this can be a blessing for peace and quiet. I was fully aware of this prior to booking and just what I needed at the time.
Julian
Having taken many Cottage/Lodge holidays it has to be said that this was without doubt the very best. The lodge was in a beautiful position overlooking the bay. You can take your pick of couch to sit back on for a panoramic view of the sunrise which I did every morning. The lodge has all the home comforts with the feel of a 5 hotel, I simply cant fault it, so much so that on arriving home we had booked to return before our suitcases were unpacked.
Mark
Brilliant in all areas, some lovely touches. Loved the welcoming flowered, chocolates and everything was just as wed hoped it would be. Would definitely come back.
Bernadette
Another lovely stay. The hot tub and the views are amazing. This is our second stay here. Last time was 6 years ago and the standard is still high. The only thing we found was the sofa and bed not comfy to chill out on. But for a week it was do able.
John
Excellent accommodation with obvious attention to detail, making for a first class experience
Catherine
Lovely holiday cottage. Cottage has everything you need - lovely walks and very scenic, relaxing and peaceful. A great base for touring around the Solway coast.
Andy
Absolutely fantastic cottage and a stunning location. Our third visit and we will be back again!

We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
Laggan Outdoor - DG7 3NQ

An outdoor activity center suitable for families. Featuring one of Europe's longest zip wires, jeep driving, grass sledging, archery, outdoor scooters. A mix of fun and adreneline rides and a lot more.

Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 17 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD

We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
