This cottage is exactly as described. Its in a beautiful remote location with walks from the lodge, so no need to get in the car. Other reviews comment on the WiFi and mobile reception- this was in perfect working order for our stay and worked a bit too well actually as I was hoping to be unreachable. The lodge is well appointed and has everything you could want for a stay away with your dogs and minimal human interaction- perfect. We hope to return!

Such a beautiful, tranquil and incredible location, we stayed at the retreat lodge for a week with our 2 dogs and it was perfect. Immaculate throughout and the sauna was a real highlight after a cold walk in the multiple walking spots. The stars and sky were amazing and some beautiful little touches in this lodge. Lovely secluded location, well equipped and good standard of cleanliness. Remember that you will probably need bottled water to drink. Due to its location mobile phone reception is very poor, and we were limited to using txt messages that took a while to arrive in both directions.

Wonderful communication with the owners. Great walk ways close by for us and the dog and a 20 minute drive in to castle Douglas (which was also handy for EV charging)

We had a lovely, restful stay at the Retreat. The facilities are top notch and we loved the hot tub and sauna. The cleanliness level was superb! I have never stayed in such an ultra clean rental before. As a person currently immuno-suppressed due to chemo, this was crucial for my health and the Reteat exceeded all expectations. Potential guests sho uld note that the matrress is super firm, which may not suit. Also the Wifi is not sufficient to stream/download from the apps on the Smart TV's.

We was not prepared for just how stunning this lodge is and the views, are spectacular. When we arrived our first words were wow. The lodge has everything you need and more. its relaxing, comfortable, with every detail being thought about. The cleanliness of the lodge is exceptional. The owner of the lodge is very easy to approach and nothing is to o much trouble. We have never felt so relaxed and for us this lodge is the best we have ever stayed in. Enjoyed a fantastic holiday. We found the Retreat to be a beautiful lodge with amazing views over the bay. It's such a peaceful place to stay. The lodge had everything you could need and the hot tub was a real treat. It's handy enough to visit lots of places too. We've been visiting the Solway coast for many years and we could easily get to some of our favourite places such as Rockcliffe, Kippford, Sandyhills etc. I would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay here and we can't wait to visit again.

We went to Rascarrel for 1 week as a relaxing break, and stayed in the Retreat. The accommodation was definitely 5, the location was brilliant perfect for sitting back relaxing and watching for the seals and dolphins (which we saw). The attention to detail was obvious from the layout of the accommodation and all the facilities in the lodge. We foun d a really lovely farm shop call Lock Arthur Farm Shop which was about 20 mins drive away and got all our supplies there. Just a perfect break.

Tesco delivery from castle Douglas - put note for the driver to call us via WhatsApp prior to arrival (no phone reception) We met at barrier and it all went smoothly. lots of local walks - our dogs loved their holiday. Only slight negative is the bed is really hard and we struggled to get comfortable- fine if you like a firm bed though. We will be back

Cottage was super, lovely welcome pack. Everything you needed was there. Great location, but because of the location WiFi was poor, but it was great being away from it for our stay. Just returned from a week at The Retreat and what a perfect retreat it is. From the cleanliness to the comfort to those views, absolutely stunning. The owners have thought of everything, so many lovely touches and everything you could ever need. Just 5 all the way. Beautiful lodge. It worked really well having the hottub area off the bathroom for changing etc. We loved the outside lights. Retreat was well equipped- lots of plug sockets. Tassimo machine and some pods provided so if you like this would be worth taking your own pods too. Very spacious with dressing room. Washer and dryer handy for hottub gear. C ouldn't fault anything. Had a lovely meal at greek restaurant in Castle Douglas only 15 mins drive away. Our 5th stay and already booked for next year

You will need need to drive to the shops and pub as the lodges well in a well secluded area, but a great place to start and finish your day. It's great for dog lovers and walkers alike.

Everything with the exception of the mattress was 5 star here, the lodge, sauna, hot tub, stunning views, overall quality of the lodge. The mattress was not so good, for a long size bed and in a 5 star lodge we expected higher quality, the mattress was very thin and uncomfortable. Apart from that the place was stunning, little touches such as the w ine, handmade chocolates and traditional Scottish sweets were lovely.

These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.

Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.

We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look". Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.
