About Barley Meadow

This traditional stone cottage with a hot tub is next door to the owners’ farmhouse on a non-working farm in a rural setting close to Dartmoor National Park, 7 miles from Okehampton. Set within a quiet setting surrounded by meadows grazed by the owners’ ponies, this spacious cottage provides a countryside getaway for a family or group of friends who will enjoy horse riding, walking or cycling in this picturesque area in the heart of Devon.

With two reception rooms and a large kitchen with breakfast area, there is plenty of space for the family to spend time together and in the sitting room there is a large sofa bed, ideal for an extra couple who can utilise the ground floor cloakroom plus share the upstairs bathroom. There is a double bedroom plus two single bedrooms, all sharing the family bathroom which has both a bath and a separate walk-in shower.

The large private garden at the side of the cottage is a perfect spot where dogs and children can play safely, and adults can enjoy the quiet peace of a rural garden whilst relaxing with a refreshing drink, unwinding in the hot tub or dining alfresco. The local village of Bridestowe has a small shop, and there are numerous friendly pubs in this area whilst the market town of Okehampton has shops, a cinema, museum and heritage railway centre with train journeys to Meldon reservoir.

There is now a cycle route from Okehampton to Lydford following the disused length of railway and offering amazing views and pub stops en-route. Dartmoor National Park provides fun-filled activities such as pony riding, tor bagging, letterboxing and exploring miles of rugged open space.

A fabulous, well-presented cottage in the heart of Devon where a warm welcome awaits. Note: This property can be booked with Ref.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional experience I had during my stay at your cottage. Your consistent provision of an impeccably clean and welcoming retreat always surpasses expectations. The breathtaking countryside views, coupled with your exceptional hospitality, create a truly memorable getaway. We truly appreciate the thoughtful touches and the cozy ambiance. Our stay was perfect, and we are grateful for the cherished memories. Thank you for providing such an idyllic retreat. As always, we eagerly anticipate returning in the future.

Another fabulous stay think this was holiday number 5 at this cottage. Peter & Jackie always go the extra mile and its really appreciated. Its an old converted barn so dont expect new build style, Its rustic and quirky! The views are stunning especially from the hottub!. See you again next year!
Dionne
We had an amazing time on holiday in this little cottage. It was so peaceful and Peter the owner and his wife were amazing they even looked after our dogs so we could go out for the day, and enjoy a nice meal. This cottage had everything you needed and also some amazing extras like the welcome pack with eggs and milk and bread and even a cream tea. Also the hot tub was amazing and we relaxed fully. The animals around the farm made it even more beautiful. We will certainly be back to this special place, the dogs loved the secure garden and the views from the hot tub were amazing
Sharon
Lovely comfortable, spotlessly clean cottage in beautiful countryside . Safe, enclosed peaceful garden with hot tub. Owners Jackie and Peter are friendly ,kind and helpful. Couldn't be better.
Claire
I totally recommend this property. After a terrible journey there, Peter made us feel so welcome. The cottage was perfectly laid out and really comfortable. It really was one of the best cottages we stayed in for our dog. The enclosed garden was great for our dog with perfect views to the chickens, sheep and horses and when we were in the hot tub, we knew we were safe. It was great to also have the sand run or the back field to give her the morning and evening walks. The welcome pack we received was perfect and exactly what we needed. I would definitely recommend this wonderful cottage to anyone want to stay around Devon, it makes the most perfect location to relax or central point to explore Dartmoor. Peter and Jackie make the most perfect hosts, with so much knowledge of the surrounding area and want to help but at the same point, give you the space to relax.

Just had a weeks stay with two friends. Wow. Ive stayed at quite a few holiday cottages, and they have all been great, but this has been the best yet. Peter, the owner was always on hand if needed and very welcoming. Fantastic welcome pack. Beautiful garden, and animal neighbours. Very peaceful. Will definitely be back!
Amazing cottage, fantastic hosts, beautiful location. Would love to go back and highly recommend to all considering it.

We had a very enjoyable week at Barley Meadow. The property was ideal for our west highland terrier with a fully secure garden. We enjoyed the hot tub every night. The kitchen was well equipped and there was dvds and games in the living room. Had enjoyable days out walking on Dartmoor and the dog friendly beach at Sandy Mouth. Peter and Jackie were very welcoming and helpful in suggestions for things to do in the area.
Claire
Absolutely fantastic holiday had by us. Me, hubby, 12 year old son and Labrador. Pete and Jackie are fantastic hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. Very informative and very friendly. The property is just amazing. So much attention to detail making it feel like a real home from home. In fact better than home, because one very rare thing is usually when you go places, the mattresses are a little underwhelming. Not here. Those mattresses were absolute heaven. I am missing it already! Everything you could possibly need was in the cottage. Loads of towels, dressing gowns and toiletries. The welcome cream tea and also bread, milk, orange juice, eggs and fresh flowers was such a wonderful touch. That and the hot tub sure helped take away 13 hours of driving stress. All in all the only downside was we had to leave so soon!! I wish we had booked 2 weeks. Okehampton itself has plenty shops etc. if you get a chance, try Wongs for Chinese. Lovely man and yummy food. The New Inn at Sampford Courtenay is absolutely amazing the chocolate fondant is out of this world all in all a fabulous stay and we will be back
Fantastic hosts ,amazing location and facilities. Peter extremely knowledgeable about the area ,nothing to much trouble really made to feel at home .Definitely booking next year !wished we could of stayed longer!
Beautiful location, well appointed cottage, fantastic hosts Barley Meadow is well situated for anyone wishing to explore the Moors, visit some beautiful beaches, or simply unwind in the relaxed atmosphere of the Devon countryside. The welcome from Jackie and Peter was outstanding and how refreshing to find the kitchen stocked with all the essentials, not to mention the lovely cream teas. The cottage is charming and full of character, comfortable too, we just felt like it was a homefromhome. The hosts are extremely generous and helpful, no question goes unanswered and nothing appears to be too much trouble if in doubt, just ask. Would I recommend Barley Meadow? Certainly, without hesitation. We're really looking forward to returning in the future. What more can I say?
We had a thoroughly enjoyable Easter break at Barley Meadow. Peter and Jackie were great hosts very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We arrived to a lovely welcome cream tea with the best homemade blackcurrant jam Ive ever tasted!, snacks, bread, eggs, milk, orange juice too. The cottage is lovely very homely and cosy. The garden was great for our dogs to run around in as it is fully enclosed. We loved the hot tub, plenty of privacy and beautiful countryside views. We felt thoroughly relaxed and didnt want to leave! Everything was provided for a very comfortable, enjoyable stay. I would highly recommend Barley Meadow. Peter and Jackie clearly put their hearts and souls into making it the perfect getaway. Thank you!
Richard
Peter and Jackie are the ideal Hosts, very hospitable and caring. The cottage was decked out with a Christmas Tree and Christmas decorations giving the cottage the Christmas Festive Feeling. Peter and Jackie had also left us a Christmas Card and present, as well as a welcome pack of Devon Cream Teas, Shortbread, Tea Coffee, Milk and Sugar. The hot tub was on 247 a Bath Robe and towel was supplied for each guest, which was a godsend on the cold windy days. The Cottage has everything you could think of for a really comfortable Relaxing stay. It is in a lovely location overlooking the hills of Dartmoor The farm has a various selection of friendly animals including, Cats, Dogs, Ducks, Hens, Sheep and Horses. We would certainly recommend Barley Meadow to one and all for a nice quite comfortable stay, a definite 5 Star Accommodation.
Lesley
A wonderful tranqil cottage. Superbly equipped and super cosy. Mr & Mrs Deacon were wonderful hosts and the welcome pack was most generous. A wonderful spot for a peaceful holiday in beautiful surroundings. Would definitely 100 recommend.
Sharon
This is an attractive, well furnished, spotlessly clean cottage with everything you can want including a hot tub in a good sized enclosed garden with lovely views which was very much appreciated by Lillie the Poodle. Peter and Jackie are friendly and helpful hosts. Nothing is too much trouble and we always get a warm welcome. Barley Meadow rates 100 from us.
Joanne
Despite the rain, we had an amazing week at Barley Meadow and couldn't ask for any more in a holiday property. Owners Peter and Jackie were both exceptionally lovely, as were all of the farm animals it was a great week away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Charlotte
We had a fantastic time at barley meadow. Peter and Jackie couldn't have been more helpful. The property has everything we needed and the hot tub was glorious!!
Rachel
Lovely place. Tucked away in the secluded village of luddon. 15 mins drive from the nearest town. Horses, sheep and cows on the other side of the fenced garden. Divine hot tub. Great for the dogs. Close to Dartmoor for walks and horse riding. Had massage therapists come to the house and treat us all. Great for decompressing city life. Wish we had longer there. Thanks so much to the lovely hosts.
Absolutely amazing place Peter and jacky were so friendly and helpful and always ... Absolutely amazing place Peter and jacky were so friendly and helpful and always there when we needed them we couldnt fault the views we woke up to the cottage was more than well equipped we would definitely book a return visit

A wonderful place to stay. Home from home. Everything catered for. Beds very comfortable. Cream tea on arrival. Peter and Jackie are the perfect hosts. Nice to have the animals there too. 2 horses, sheep, chickens and ducks. Hot tub an added bonus. Will definitely be returning.
We booked Barley Meadows to celebrate our 51st wedding anniversary, The welcome we had from Peter & Jackie was lovely. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped. Absolutely beautiful views from the garden. And the hot tub, which was very welcome after our days out. All in all the cottage was perfect. We will be going back.
We had a lovely stay at Barley Meadow. The cottage was comfy, well equipped and clean. Super welcome pack, including items for the dog. The hosts were available but not at all over bearing, and gave great recommendations for places to visit and pubs for meals. We hope to return.
Philippe
Great property and very welcoming host
Elizabeth
Property and owners were amazing. Property was clean, comfortable and cosy. Beds were extremely comfortable and every attention to detail has been thought out carefully to make sure every need was met and it certainly was. This property is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need, towels, blankets, dressing gowns, utensils, pots, pans, glasses, crockery, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dvds, games, the list is endless.just like home from home. Even a tasty cream tea along with eggs, bread, milk, biscuits, juice, cereal, jams.and not forgetting the luxury of a hot tub all ready to use on arrival with spectacular views. And the garden which is dog friendly ensuring they could not escape. The views and scenery were spectacular and this property is set in a rural but central location and worked perfectly as a base for us to explore surrounding areas and close enough to travel to Cornwall. Peter was on hand and extremely helpful with places to visit, things to do and just helped make our stay relaxing and stress free. Even down to looking after our doggies while we went out for an anniversary meal and providing us with a surprise bottle of bubbly for our anniversary. We will be returning next year.. sooner if we can.. and can not praise the property and Peter and Jackie enough x everything we hoped for and more
Richard
We stayed at Barley Meadow for a week. I have nothing but good things to say about our break. As is mentioned in several of the reviews the owners went far beyond what they needed to do to ensure we had a great break. The property is secluded and has an excellent area to allow your dogs out. Is well maintained and stocked. It has an interesting array of animals and was such a pleasant place to be. Good location to see all that Devon has to offer and you can tell in the visitors book by the amount of return visits that you have found a gem. We would thoroughly recommend Barley Meadow and will return I am sure. On a personal note, Thank you to Pete and Jackie. It was a pleasure to meet you and we appreciate all your help during our stay and even after we got back home. No doubt we'll see you again soon. Your positive reputation is very well deserved.
This was our second visit to Barley Meadow and we were not disappointed! Christmas tree, decorations and lights added a lovely cosy seasonal touch. Facilities are very good and made to feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. We enjoyed seeing in the New Year in the hot tub and cannot think of a more relaxing break, thank you and we look forward to seeing you again in May 2022!
Jennifer
Lovely spacious cottage, the photos don't do it justice. Very well and thoughtfully equipped with everything you could need, and the owners are kind and welcoming. Christmas decorations, welcome pack and dog treat greatly appreciated.
Loathe to leave a good review because I honestly want this place to be my forever home. Booked a week in the hope that I'd get to explore Devon, but work kept me locked in the cottage but I still woke up every day feeling happy and excited to be there. Hot tub was a wonderful sunset treat to mark the end of every day. Peter was a gem. And I already miss Fly and Belle the ponies!
Lovely weekend break cottage was wonderful with the added bonus of the hot tub ... Lovely weekend break cottage was wonderful with the added bonus of the hot tub and wonderful hosts who were so welcoming and left us well stocked and the cream read were lovely thank you
Such lovely friendly hosts, and they really go the extra mile or 2 to ensure their guests are well looked after. They have thought of everything in the cottages, and all the little extra thoughtful touches are really appreciated. The whole weekend went far too quick, and we really hope to return soon.
We always have a good time in Devon. The welcome you gave us was overwhelming, like seeing an old friend again. We hope to see you again very soon.
Tamara
We had a very relaxing and peaceful holiday, the cottage is situated on a quiet rural lane, but in just a few minutes reach of main roads allowing easy travel to many places for trips out sight seeing. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped, with a safely fenced garden overlooking a paddock where the cottage owners sheep and ponies graze. The garden has plenty of seating and offers lovely views at sun rise, sunset and the stars at night. Both garden and cottage are dog and child friendly. Owners Jackie and Peter are fabulous hosts and manage to balance remaining available if needed yet completely unobtrusive otherwise. We and our dogs felt welcome and at home from the moment we arrived, a super location and booking choice.
Peter and Jackie were absolutely brilliant hosts and were there as much or as little we needed them. Great location, very relaxing and lovely views. Highly recommended especially if you have a dog, a real home from home.
Sharon
This is a lovely, comfortable cottage. It's well equipped, attractively furnished and very clean and well maintained. The safe, enclosed garden is surrounded by beautiful views and is very pet friendly. Hosts Peter and Jackie are friendly, welcoming and helpful. The help that Peter gave us with our punctured Tyre was very much appreciated! We would thoroughly recommend Barley Meadow as a perfect holiday home.
Lawrence
The was the first time tht we took a holiday in the UK due to the paramedic, and we were not disappointed. From the first minute we were welcomed by a lovely couple, who explained everything we needed to know. A nice little touch was the welcoming items left for us in the kitchen, especially the fresh flowers. The cottage rests in a little meadow which in the morning when you wake up with the sounds and smells of a fresh English countryside. I will be certainly coming to this place again in the future.
Louise
The cottage and hot tub were amazing! Lovely hosts. We will definitely return!
