Starlings Roost Reviews

Holidaying in Somerset - this is a great place to stay!
From booking to staying all communication was great and on entering the property we were really happy with our accommodation. Bright, airy, clean, lovely towels and bedding and a really lovely hot tub to enjoy in the enclosed garden. We found the location really good for visiting the local area and great to be able to walk to The Ashcott pub for super food! We always take a lot of time finding the right accommodation and we were extremely happy with Starlings Roost, would definitely recommend to family and friends without hesitation. Friendly neighbours too! Just a few things that would make the stay a bit better would have been some extra bedroom furniture, long mirrors but nothing major at all.
Daniel
Great experience at Starlings property, we loved the hot tub, we found it very familykids friendly, we all had an amazing time. We also found the area very quiet, and friendly neighbours, just what you need for a relaxing getaway. We will return for sure

Such a lovely property! This is our second visit to starlings roost and it didnt disappoint! The property is modern, comfortable and in a perfect location to explore Somerset. The Xmas touches were a great touch and made it a home from home. If we had any feedback a second telly in one of the bedrooms would be appreciated, a bedside light for the main bedroom would be a good addition and maybe some heaters for the conservatorydining room. I know we visited in December but the conservatory was so cold we ended up not using the room and had dinner every night in the kitchen. It was a shame as it was a family get together and we wanted to celebrate Xmas early. Overall though great stay and we will certainly visit again!

Absolutely loved staying here, brilliant facilities very clean ! Very modern ! Great location , we loved the hot tub and beds were so comfy too ! Loved they had everything you needed neighbours lovely too, Local pub was just a short walk away dog friendly and great food. Deffo will stay here again we loved everything.
We had a very pleasant stay, used the hot tub daily, the only slight issue was that the hot tub goes on and off throughout the night, and because its right below the main bedroom window it disturbs your sleep. We turned it off and just remembered to turn it on 30 minutes before we wanted to use it. Street is a lovely town, with everything you need with in a 10 minute drive.

It was a lovely property, but unfortunately upon arrival we noticed quite a bad ants nest in the conservatory. This was quite off putting. We contacted the owner, who sent someone a few hours later to clean it up. There was ant traps already down, so this must have been an ongoing issue. Throughout the holiday there were more dead ones and live ones. Ants and ant flies. We couldnt avoid walking through due to needing to take our dog out in the garden. We had to pick the dog up to walk through. This was the main thing that spoilt it as my daughter was highly anxious and it wasnt very nice for us either. Despite this we made the best out of a bad situation just so we could enjoy our once a year family holiday. The drive wasnt very nice to park on, due to it being so steep. Also, one of the days when we arrived back from a day out, a car was parked outside the property waiting for us. We thought it was the owner and maybe they wanted to check the ant nest. I spoke to the man and soon realised he wasnt the owner at all, he stated that the property was for sale and that he wanted to come and look around the property. I informed him we were on holiday and this wouldnt be possible. We then informed the owner as it seemed quite suspicious. The neighbour was lovely and I would highly recommend visiting Cheddar.
The property was comfortable and was equipped with everything needed during our stay. The hot tub was a hit with everyone. Outside the property could do with a little TLC
We had a nice Monday to Friday stay at Starlings Roost. The bungalow had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. The rear garden was secure for our dog and the hot tub was lovely. The bungalow was situated at the edge of a quiet residential area in a quiet village. Not many facilities in Ashcott itself which is a small village but it was a good base to explore, with the RSPB reserve, Glastonbury and Wells just a short drive away. Only one complaint can we order better weather for next time please?Despite the rain, we still enjoyed our stay!
Lovely bungalow in a beautiful location. Close to Glastonbury, Wells and Street.. Hot tub was a great extra. Could have done with a non slip mat for the bath. Only criticism was that on arrival the dish washer was full of dirty dishes, but it wasn't an issue. The garden is secure and pretty, suitable for dogs. We had a wonderful stay.
Sharon
Lovely place. Very central to many places. Clean. Comfortable. No problems
Georgina
Beautiful cottage, deceptively large. Spotless throughout. Wellmaintained gardens, very private. Hot tub was amazing! Ashcott offers many dogfriendly walks and is close to attractions. Seeing deer and marsh harriers at RSPB Ham Wall, under 2 miles from the cottage was a great experience! Biscuits, prosecco and other goodies, including dog treats left by the owner of the cottage were much appreciated. For a relaxing break in the country, we cannot recommend highly enough
We had a lovely week, but should be noted that the drive way is very steep, welcome pack was a bit light missing milk and white sugar. Nice touch with the bottle of Prosecco and flowers. Beds was comfortable and Slept well.
Cosy, comfy, ideally located and perfect for our requirements.
Robert
It was a lovely cottagebungalow in a beautiful village. The hot tub was great. The heatingfire were amazing. To top it all we have an electric car so the car charger was game changing. Thank you!!!
We chose to have a winter break at Starlings Roost so that we could do some walking and to see the birdlife. It appealed to us because of its close proximity to RSPB Ham Wall it's a 5 minute drive away and we were very fortunate to be treated to some exceptional starling murmurations at RSPB Ham Wall. We went every day at sunset. We also visited at sunrise to see them lift off, as we knew where they had roosted the night before, and this experience was just as magical with noone else there.....as long as you can drag yourself out of bed in the dark! The cottage was very clean and bright. It was particularly cold weather whilst we were there in January and the cottage was very warm and cosy. Both the kitchen and bathrooms are modern and well equipped. We slept in the king sized bed and found it to be very comfortable. We had a small problemunexpected issue whilst we were there which was not the fault of the cottage owner but the owner responded immediately and resolved the matter within a couple of hours for which we were very grateful.
Perfect property for our stay near Ham Wall and other reserves. It was warm and comfortable, with the added bonus of a hot tub.
A great stay. The drive is on a slope but navigable. The village pubs do not serve food early week, which is out of the owner's control. Nevertheless, really good accommodation and excellent customer service by the owners with plenty of places to visit.
The bungalow was extremely comfortable with plenty of room for all of us. The garden area was great for spending time in hot tub or relaxing in seating on deck listening to birds and bees. Lovely large conservatory for diningplaying games and lovely views on sunrise and sunset. Plenty of space in all the bedrooms.
Stephanie
There was a lack of wardrobe space and no dressing tables with mirrors which was a little disappointing . The driveway is incredibly steep. Some folk with mobility issues would find it difficult however the property and garden are lovely .
Victoria
We have just returned from a wonderful week at Starlings Roost. The bungalow was very comfortable and equipped with everything that we needed, with lovely touches, such as fresh flowers and a welcome pack. The EV charge point was very welcome and removed the anxiety around charging which has marred holidays elsewhere. The location was ideal to walk out to the local nature reserves and a relatively short drive to several other places we wanted to visit.
A lovely stay at Starlings Roost. The property was very comfortable, clean and welcoming. Fresh flowers in every room, a welcome pack of prosecco, tea, coffee, biscuits, jam and treats for the dog was a lovely touch, thank you. Loved being able to see Glastonbury Tor and Walton Hill from the bedroom and conservatory. The garden is private and enclosed with a hot tub which was a luxury as was having an ensuite and a family bathroom. Street is only a 10 minute drive away and was the most convenient place to get the shopping Sainsbury's. The Ashcott Inn was extremely welcoming with a helpful, enthusiastic team and yummy food. The property is well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Photograph on the Sykes webpage showed countryside view and did not reflect the bungalow was actually on a housing estate. A bit misleading. Local shop was permanently closed.
The cottage was lovely and extremely welcoming. We all really enjoyed our stay.
The property was overall very good if not fantastic. A couple of things to note for the owner, the ensuite toilet didn't look clean when we arrived, and the settees could be improved for comfort. It would be helpful to have a clothes airer we could put up inside the property incase it is raining, and finally it would be helpful to have nonslip bath matts in both bathrooms or a handrail for safety as we all found the trays slippery. For 6 people the wardrobe space was very tight. Lovely touches were the welcome pack, plenty of towels and all beds were extremely comfortable.
A great property in a beautiful location with everything you could possibly need.
Cameron
Thank you for an absolute stunning stay. The house has been renovated to a fantastic standard, with a modern feel. The welcome pack was lovely and the fresh flowers made the house homely. The property is situated in perfect location for exploring Somerset in every direction. 2 minor suggestions and at no point did they hinder our holiday would be a secondary television in a bedroom I know not everyone wants a tv when they go on holiday but it does help in an evening and a folding laundry Airer as its easy to dry things in the conservatory and go out for the day. Only small suggestions but would make a big difference. We had a lovely week! Would happily recommend and will come back anytime! Thank you
Beautiful bungalow, well equipped with everything you could possibly need! Disappointed to find the local pubs and restaurants all remained closed during our stay.
Justine
Had a great stay here at the weekend. Lovely bungalow with added benefit of a hot tub. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and plenty of towels provided. Highly recommended.
Everything was as per programme. The cottage was in a quiet village with an excellent dog friendly pub within a 5 minute walk serving 1st class food especially their Sunday Dinner The Ashcott Inn. The cottage itself was dog friendly and had all the facilities we needed. Small conservatory was great for eating in and back garden with hot tub was great. All in all it was a first class break.
This was a great choice for our family get together. The bungalow was warm, clean and comfortable. There was a fully equipped kitchen which we made use of, which included a microwave which you cant quite see in the photos. There were some nice touches, such as toiletries, cakes and fizzy wine. There were plenty of towels provided, including one for a dog if you bring one. You can see Glastonbury Tor from the property, the hot tub was a bonus, we had a great stay and weve recommended the bungalow to our friends.
Roxanne
We had a lovely stay at starlings roost, we booked solely for the hot tub and we absolutely loved it, the children also had so much fun. The bungalow itself was clean and comfortable, the beds were lovely and we all enjoyed a lie in both days. It was the perfect little getaway that we as a family needed, thank you very much.
House was lovely and very welcoming. The house could do with a full length mirror and some door mats as we found that we were lacking these.
Sylvia
It was lovely clean nice touches eg flowers and wine enjoyed the t Hot tub beds ... It was lovely clean nice touches eg flowers and wine enjoyed the t Hot tub beds were super comfy really enjoyed our stay
The property was spotless and well prepared. The bottle of fizz was very much appreciated. Location is ideal for exploring Somerset. The hot tub was great. As mentioned by others the mattresses on the beds aren't great, and are probably due for replacement. The WiFi isn't great, and struggled at times. The settee and chairs in the lounge are practical as opposed to comfortable. The kitchen had everything you needed. The local pubs were okay, one doing food and one not, with neither open Monday or Tuesday. The cottage is on a quiet estate
Debbie
Really lovely, bright, airy and clean accomodation and really good location. Lovely to be able to walk to the local pub for great food. The owners could put some full length wardrobes in and bedside cabinets beside all beds. Full length mirrors would also be useful and the mattress in the double ensuite bedroom could do with being changed think a spring has gone! We did have to clear out the sink in the ensuite bathroom as the water was taking a long time to clear, once we had done this all fine. The cleaners probably ought to check when doing cleaning after stay. Very sensitive heat detector in kitchen which made cooking rather interesting!! Some pictures on walls would make a little more homely and a blind in the double ensuite bedroom would be good in the window looking out to the road!!
Khaimraj
Newly refurbished house in a very quite area. Large driveway with a Car charger. Good sized rooms. The place was spotless. Felt very welcoming. Nice touch with fresh bouquets throughout the house. The hot tub was private and the kids enjoyed it. I could not recommend Starlings Roost more highly.
Very clean and a great base for sight seeing. The house itself was very well kept and had good appliances. Plenty of space and comfortable overall. Loved the welcoming gifts a very thoughtful touch. Clearly the owners are seasoned holiday letters. Very private garden. Hot tub was good but in direct sunlight so too hot to use in the current heatwave. Duvets very thick and too hot. A fabulous little holiday home worth a visit.
Very Steep Drive To Park On,Recycling Instructions A Bit Vague,Well Equiped Bungalow,Nice Neigbours
