The Gully Reviews

Richard
Cottage is well presented, well equipped and living spaces plenty big enough for 8 peopleamazing to have such a fresh and clean cottage which is dog friendly. Lovely touches eg fresh oj and milk in the fridge, coffee beans, tea etc to facilitate a nice cuppa on arrivalalso, fresh flowering plants a great addition. Loved the location, and owners immediate response when a minor hiccup presented itself. Only one comment on the flip.size of twin room only really suitable for children, but that said, would return .thank you!
We had a lovely long weekend at the gully. This is our second stay at this accommodation and it feels like a home from home. We really enjoyed the hot tub, games room and social living area. The kitchen has everything you need. We will definitely be returning again in the future.
Sioban
What an amazing property. We loved every part of it. The communication with the owners was fantastic. We had an issue with the heating, so the owners had a solution and solved the problem. The hot tub was a hot with the whole family.
Zubair
A good looking property but a number of issues faced at the property, no hot water, no central heating, no under floor heating, towel rails not working. First night meant having cold showers. hot water was fixed next day but then dipped again towards end of stay. Plumbers came round to try and fix heating and radiators but were not successful. Flies in kitchen, plates and pans not left clean on arrival and crumbs in cutlery tray. Not great signal with TV and remote control. Games room doesn't have a table tennis table as shown in photos. No tumble dryer or washing machine with dry option was available and towel rails not working made difficult to dry towels and clothes. One electric towel rail was provided to dry clothes, which had to be cleaned first as it was filthy with mud and dust. The hot tub could do with a proper clean and with an interim mid week clean during a week stay.
Priscilla
An excellent property, large, comfortable and ideal for a group of friends. It was well equipped. On the slight downside, we all found the beds far too soft but this, of course, might be personal preference. There was nowhere in the showers to put soap, shampoo, etc except on the floor which is less than ideal for anyone, but particularly for older people, and the heated towel rails were NOT heated. All the rooms were warm, however, so the heating was obviously working.
Tracey
Lovely property and owners. Great to be able to take thee generations and the dog. Beautifully decorated and furnished. Very well equipped kitchen. Ensuites and walk in wardrobes make getting up and out so much easier. The location is lovely too
The Gully is lovely! The kitchen & games room are well equipped & the spacious open plan living room area opening up onto the garden is ideal. The hot tub was great! The only suggestion I have would be to add a grab rail by the toilet & in the shower of the wet room off the ground floor bedroom. We stayed with my mother who has mobility issues & she felt this would help her feel a little safer. Everything else was spot on. We will certainly consider another holiday at The Gully.

We had a great stay at the Gully and everything was as described. We loved the fact that we could cook and relax in one big room with comfortable seating for ev

We spent a fab week with family celebrating my hubby's 70th. There was plenty of space and the games room was a big hit. The kitchen was well equipped with everything needed. A welcome pack including milk was very useful. The garden is large, private and totally enclosed which made it safe for children. We didn't have a dog with us but the garden would have been ideal I'm sure if we had. It was very warm during our stay but by keeping the large back patio doors open, the cooler air reached the upstairs. The owners are on hand but not intrusive. It was a most lovely week's stay.
Leanne
Wonderful stay here with our family and 2 dogs. Garden fully enclosed so no worry with the dogs escaping. Met the owners who were lovely. Hot tub and games room massive hit. Perfect being open plan so no one felt excluded. Having 3 out of the 4 bedrooms ensuite suited the different family groups. A beautiful home. Can highly recommend.
Michael
We all had an amazing time at the gully. The photos did not do the property justice and looked even better once we were there. Loved the games room now with a pool table and the lovely jacuzzi. It is one of the only places we could find that was dog friendly and allowed 3 well behaved dogs with a good sized enclosed garden for them all to enjoy. We will definitely be considering another stay here. Thanks again. Michael, Amy, Stuart, Jules and the puppies Betty, Bella and Boo
Rachel
Amazing property. Perfect for a group with great facilities and space. Thank you
Really enjoyed our stay. The photos do not do it justice. Lovely spacious accommodation. Comfortable seating and sleeping. Really enjoyed our stay here, would recommend to anyone and would definitely return!
Sandra
We had a wonderful holiday. The Gully was superb it had everything we needed and made the holiday a memorable time. The beds very very comfortable all my family have commented on how well they all slept. The garden being so big gave the three dogs a great time to. Would recommend The Gully 100.
Jessica
The best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in. Perfect. So many thoughtful touches. It was the perfect family accommodation. Would love to go again.
Very attractive and comfortable property in a peaceful part of Dorset. Would definitely stay here again.
Kirsten
Fantastic property, it exceeded our expectations. Had a wonderful time, very impressed. One issue was the shower drainage in the downstairs bedroom. The floor was awash every time, wouldn't drain away properly. This was clearly not a new problem as the door had black marks on the bottom and the laminate layers were coming away so obviously frequently wet. Also resulted in an unpleasant smell. The other feedback we would give having stayed in many holiday lets would be a welcome pack, with all information in one place. There were laminates and notes dotted around, but all gathered together, along with some useful information eg local dr, nearby shops, pubs etc would be a nicer touch.
Cheryl
Wonderful property to celebrate the New Year with friends. Great facilities, well appointed and spacious. Hot tub was a real treat after a day of walking with the dogs.
We were overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness and attention to detail that had gone into welcoming us to this house at Christmas and the hosts were kindness and helpfulness personified. From the Christmas tree soap dispensers, to the decorated tree and Christmas lights everywhere, it was a a joy and the children loved it too. The house was warm and clean although we had a bit of trouble regulating the heating upstairs. Beds were comfy, kitchen was well equipped and we liked the coffee maker that could be set to come on at a specific time morning coffee was great! A big thanks you from us all.
Alison
We had the most wonderful 4 night break at the Gully for our friends big birthday. Everything was perfect. Couldnt have asked for more
Beautiful property! We had the best wholesome weekend in front of the log fire, using the hot tub and the pup loved running around the big garden! The house was spotless and was available for an earlier check in than expected which meant we got a few extra hours in this beautiful house. Will definitely be back!
Matthew
Stayed here to celebrate a 60th grandparents, parents and grandchildren under one roof with 2 well behaved dogs. We all had a fabulous time! House was stunning in and out. Accessed via a private electric gate. Everything room was immaculate and tastefully decorated. Peaceful and quiet. Plenty of off road parking. Could not fault our weekend away, other then we wished we stayed longer. The games room, the open plan kitchen diner, all the guest rooms and bathrooms were faultless, even the grand entrance hall and well equipped kitchen all had their own charms. Heated floors throughout which felt like they never turned off. The hot tub was a family favourite also. Without hesitation, we would stay here again. We was in the best of hands. Was great to spend time with family. We had a wonderful time and the owners have invested a lot Of time and thought into this property to make it the beautiful charm it is. Thank you for having us and we hope to see you again.
Nicola
Fabulous property, perfect for the larger party or as in our case, two families. The hot tub was a lovely bonus. Location was perfect for walking and exploring Somerset or Dorset with the Jurassic coast being under and hour away. Two super pubs 20 minutes walk away. The property was spotlessly clean with everything you would ever need.
We really enjoyed our stay here in October 2022. We cant fault the accommodation it was perfect. Would happily revisit.
Lindsay
Just returned from the most amazing week at The Gulley! From the minute we arrived it felt like home. The beautiful flowers, cake, honey, juice & milk added to the welcoming feel. The way the home has been furnished and kitted out is amazing. All equipment is very highend and carefully thought out. We cooked and ate in every night, and I can honestly say there was nothing we didn't have in the fully equipped kitchen. The beds were super comfy and the luxury of us all having an ensuite bathroom was a massive plus no queuing for the bathroom in the morning! The weather was great and we explored many places including Cheddar Gorge, Lyme Regis, Durdle Door & Lulworth. Had a great day in Swanage and enjoyed the steam train ride to Corfe Castle. Coming back to relax in the hottub was the highlight of the day and a wonderful addition to this beautiful home and many a game was played on the pool table in the evenings. Had some great walks along the river and the walk across the field with the friendly cows to the Rose & Crown pub in Trent was great and comes highly recommended! All in all this is by far the best holiday home we have stayed in and will definitely be back. Rob & Sarah are lovely hosts and have a place to be proud of!
Brenda
The Gully was the perfect place for our party of 4 couples. The place was spotless, tastefully decorated and had everything we required. The extra touch of milk, orange juice and cake on arrival were very much appreciated. The hot tub in the garden was maintained and checked regularly throughout our stay too.
Michael
Modern, well designed property. Fantastic kitchen for a big group. Bedrooms were comfortable and good size. Location is good with lots within driving distance and a couple of pubs walkable. Great stay.
Alison
We have just returned from a week at The Gully it is simply stunning, the photos dont do it justice, large, spacious and beautifully decorated. Every detail was considered resulting in a wonderful weeks stay for five adults, one child and two dogs. We recommend a visit to Sherbourne town, Yeovil Country Park, Hams Hill and Haynes Motor Museum. The facilities at the property are great! The hot tub was used daily along with the pool table which isnt shown in the photos. The games room is well equipped with books and board games. Theres also a BBQ which isnt shown. There are three friendly sheep in the paddock directly next to the house, this wasnt an issue for us but maybe worth discussing with the owners pre booking if you have a reactive dog. There are two local walks but otherwise the roads and narrow and fast so a car is needed to get out and about, everything is close including supermarkets if needed. We stayed in the hottest week of the year. The two upstairs rooms were very hot but fans were provided. The owners Sarah and Rob are super friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble! We cant fault our stay and would love to return, especially in the winter to take advantage of the the huge log burner!
Jonathon
What an amazing place. Beautiful location, the house was stunning, clean, great size and perfect for us. We went with 8 adults and 3 dogs. The dogs loved it and had loads of space the play around. The owners were great and helped us whenever needed. The weather was good, overcast but that did not stop us enjoying the garden and hot tub. Great attention to details, everything you think you would need, this place has and more. We well overpacked as everything we needed was already there. Bedrooms were very spacious and and the showerbathwet rooms were phenomenal. Would strongly recommend taking a walk to King Alfred's Tower if you like walking. Beautiful scenery, great walk and perfect for dogs too. We spent a few days in Weymouth too which was great too. There are shops a short drive away and the local farm shop was great. Thank you to Rob & Sarah for having us! We will defiantly be looking to come back soon.
Lovely holiday accommodation, my family felt instantly relax and had a great time. The place came with everything needed to support a family staying away. I would highly recommend staying there.
What a amazing place we couldnt fault it at all , Everything was perfect so roomy with 7 of us and two dogs we were spoilt for room . Attention to detail second to none , we were lucky as had the scorching hot weather but that was just a bonus as if it was raining it would still of been lovely . the games room and the hot tub kept the kids happy and the massive garden kept the dogs happy and to top it all Sarah and rob even went to the trouble of leaving a present and card on the door step for my husbands 50 th birthday . we would definitely stay there again the whole place was perfect we didnt want to leave, thanks for making it pleasurable Marie x
We had a lovely week away at The Gully We would
The property was amazing, only thing was albeit wasnt really hot the house was very stuffy at night and the constant noise of the work vehicle in the early hours was a little disturbance. With all the said I would definitely book it again.
We had an amazing stay at The Gully. Extended family celebrating a milestone birthday and it was perfect. The owners were really friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to ensure we have a wonderful time. The property is a well thought out space, equipped to a high standard and it was a pleasure to stay there. The garden area is peaceful and conducive to entertaining or just chilling. Ideal for the fourlegged family members also. Durdle Door and Lullworth Cove are in easy reach. Highly recommend.
Claire
A stunningly beautiful, wellequipped property in a very peaceful setting. Having the games room, complete with pool table, was a real treat. We all had a wonderful break enjoying the local area, especially Sherborne with its castle, abbey, quaint streets and independent shops. The Green restaurant was particularly good.
Fabulous place to stay. Really well planned layout and tastefully furnished, plus lots of extras that aren't often seen in a rental provded by the friendly owners. Within easy reach of good places to visit.
We were blown away by The Gully. It is beautifully furnished, pure luxury yet so comfortable. We had an amazing weekend relaxing in the house and garden, especially enjoying the hot tub after a fun swingball tournament! We visited Sherborne Castle and gardens which we highly recommend if staying here and had a nice cream tea in the garden centre cafe attached. Look forward to a return visit!
Hayley
Fantastic house brilliant for adults and groups. Would be great to have a few more bits for kids stairgate, high chair etc.. but couldnt fault the property, its beautiful.
