Heatherbrae Reviews

Katharine
The house was perfect for our large gathering of family and friends to celebrate my 50th birthday. The house was as described. This was a last minute booking as we had been let down by another provider. The housekeeper was very helpful. The house would benefit from some maintenance for example one of our guests became locked in a bedroom when the handle feel off the door, the ceiling lights in the ground floor of the annexe didn't work. In addition some of the baths do not have showers over them this would be a useful addition. Overall we loved the house and the garden and would be happy to return.
Had a wonderful time for a party of ages 1 100. Very warm and comfortable and able to make use of all the facilities, tree house, tennis court, hot tub & pool table. Stunning views from the front. It is an older house with character & any issues were promptly sorted by the owner Julian
Angela
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Heatherbrae for my sisters hen party. The house was not only lovely but equipped us with everything we needed. All room were comfortable and clean and views were beautiful. Need another occasion to stay again!

The property is stunning, and well kitted out. The only bit of kitchen equipment we thought was missing was a garlic crusher. We enjoyed the hot tubs though the cover of one of them is not perfect, the tennis court, and the garden. We also made good use of the piano, and we loved the view from the house! During the week, we encountered problems with the cooker and the heating, which were both resolved by the owner or the housekeeper. The fact that the buzzer on the gate does not connect to anything inside the house did cause us some difficulties. We were very grateful that the owner gave us permission to hold a birthday party at the house this was a great success, and the house really came into its own!
Excellent property, we had the best time. Facilities where fantastic, everything spotlessly clean and everything we needed for a great weekend. Local pizza delivery guy was very helpful and delivered to us on time. Only suggestion that came up was that hot tubs should have been together at the front of the house as the one around the side was invaded by midgies, and the girls got bitten. x
We had a great time in the house, great facilities. We cooked all our meals in the kitchen every pot and I utensil we needed was there. The whole family could eat together with the large tables making a great dinning experience. The kids loved the tennis courts and tree house! Amazing views from the hot tubs whilst relaxing just topped off our stay!
What a special place for a 3 generation celebration. Masses of space, well furnished, well equipped for cooking and cleaning up for a large group, perfect for hideandseek, games and books for little ones, pool table and tennis, hot tubs we might have been happy just staying in the grounds. But then we would have missed the glorious walks over the moors and down the river valley, starting right from the gate. We all loved it.
We loved our stay, the location was unbelievable, the weather made it fantastic. The house itself was unreal from the outside, a real gem but it could do with a major deep clean, a bit of maintenance and a good paint. We would absolutely love to stay there again next year but the price is too high. The hot tubs were gorgeous, it was fabulous to have the gardens and tennis courts. The steps outside need to be repaired, very dangerous with breeze blocks and the main staircase inside most of us missed the bottom step and carpet is loose and could maybe do with a sensor light so you dont miss it. Bedrooms were fair sized, not enough showers only 3 so was a little difficult getting everyone bathed and showered on a morning. Kitchen unreal, we took air fryer and neednt have we had everything you would need including Bain Marie, although some were a little dusty and grubby they were easily cleaned. Location amazing, 2 minutes to Middleton, Barnard castle nearby and eggleston. So peaceful, so beautiful and would love to visit again if it were a little cheaper I would book next year in a heartbeat.
We stayed at Heatherbrae for a family get together over the bank holiday weekend. There were 21 people, aged 2 80! This is a lovely house, with plenty of space and big rooms for socialising, comfortable seating in the lounge, an enormous kitchen. The house clean, tidy and overall, well maintained. Warm and cosy, we lit the open fire in the lounge in the evenings. The games room with pool table was a hit! A great location, with fantastic views. Our group followed some of the local walking trails and also ventured to Middleton in Teasdale, Barnard Castle and Beamish. The outside space is fantastic, big secure grounds the remote controls for the gates are really useful. We used the tennis courts and also the hot tub at the front of the property we took our own towels for this. We had good weather and some guests sat outside in the evening with the chimenea lit. We catered for ourselves. There was loads of hot water, we made use of the wine fridges, kitchen equipment and dishwashers. All worked well and were in good condition. There was plenty of pots, pans, utensils and crockery. There wasnt an ice machine as stated in the details, but we sourced some ice locally. Bedrooms were well presented with good quality bedding & towels. A couple the blinds in the annex did not work properly and the 3rd floor ensuite room needs a bit of a refresh but these are small niggles and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the facilities at Heatherbrae. We would definitely come back! Edit Since writing our review the owner quickly responded to our feedback and has updated me.
Lesley
Lovely large house with fabulous facilities for all the family to enjoy.
Matthew
It was a lovely place to stay. 4 families meet up each year so we need a big venue. It was excellent. One thing it needs I think is a car charger. Considering where things are going with cars this will need to happen soon I suggest
We loved the communal spaces within the property. They were great for the number of people we had in our party, particularly because the weather was poor so we were inside alot of the time. The beds were very comfy with crisp white bedding and fluffy towels. It was a shame the wood burner was not working and, as other people have noted, there are some small cosmetic improvements which need to be made, broken blinds, curtain hooks missing, some decorating but overall a fantastic property. The owner was very helpful and was great in finding and returning an item we had left behind. Would highly recommend the property and would love to come back, to make more use of the outside spaces, during the summer months.
Lovely setting with good facilities and nice touches. Plenty of gadgets in the kitchen and nice fresh bed linen and towels. We enjoyed the space and would definitely stay again. Slight downside was the hot tubs wasnt really hot enough and on one only 1 jet worked. Some of the bedrooms could do with a cosmetic lift evidence of some extensive water damage in one and some of the TVs werent working. None of this impacted on our enjoyment of our stay.
Gillian
Lovely stay at Heather Brae. 21 family members aged 7 to 77! Plenty of room for kids to run and explore inside and out as being February weather wasn't great. Lots of comfy spaces for adults too. House was lived in but this is a bonus as don't feel to precious about everything. Prosecco and chocolate was greatly appreciated! Only issue was top floor bedrooms were cold, radiators weren't on and we couldn't smfiz that. We did move portable heaters up which helped. Overall a great location and House we would all recommend
Daniel
Absolutely fantastic property in an amazing picturesque location. The house is amazing for a large group. The kitchen is the ideal and a great place for socialising. We were trying to work out how it could be improved and none of us could really come up with anything its got everything that our group needs! If you'd have asked me last year Id have said the pool table had a rip in it but that had been sorted!! The kids absolutely love it too 12 of them Aged 27 and its perfect for them to feel independent but know that they are safe and not causing any trouble! This was our 2nd visit to Heatherbrae and I expect it to be an annual visit!! A real home from home!
Rahima
We had an amazing time, despite the weather not being on our side on most of the days. The house was equipped with everything we needed and more which we were grateful for. Within the property, family members ranging from senior to babies were laughing and playing on the tennis country, in the jacuzzi, walking around, morning workouts outdoor! It was wonderful everywhere you looked there was laughter. We visited the High and Low force water fall, which was a beautiful experience. Just the views and local walks were spectacular. The men also did pigeon clay shooting at North East Outdoor centre which was a fun experience. We will be definitely returning next year. Thank you Julian and Gemma for making the experience special.
It was an amazing weekend spent in a lovely location with my family. The house was spacious and clean, everything was easily accessible, very peaceful surroundings and felt very comfortable, the house was very clean and all appliances and rooms were easy available, my family and i Will defernately be booking again for next years family gathering.
Christine
Its a wonderful world at Heatherbrae we had the most brilliant time for my daughters hen weekend Hens at Heatherbrae. We were a group of family and friends with ages ranging from under 1 year old to 70 years old and the facilities were perfect for everyone. Bedding and towels were top quality which I think always makes a difference. The spacious kitchen meant everyone could help with preparing meals without getting in anyones way. The house was large enough for everyone to find their own space when needed but also big enough for us all to come together for food, games etc. We had beautiful weather all weekend which meant we were able to have afternoon tea in the gorgeous gardens with enough tables for our large party. It felt like an Italian holiday surrounded by family with good food, wine and sunshine. The hot tubs went down well with all ages and became a focal point for enjoying a good natter. We had games in the garden, played tennis, the kids loved the swing I think it competed with the hot tub for their favourite place and were lucky enough to enjoy both the outside and inside of Heatherbrae. Some of our party enjoyed the local walks in the beautiful surrounding countryside and others popped down into the village to have a wander around local shops. Even if the weather had been bad there was easily enough space inside to have had a great time too with lots of books and DVDs and a games room, large living room and spacious kitchen with two enormous tables so everyone could eat together. The only issue we had was a dripping tap in the kitchen which was fixed during our stay by the helpful maintenance man whose prompt attention showed that even this small issue was important to the owners. I cant recommend Heatherbrae highly enough whether you are planning a family getaway, a group of friends or even a small wedding or special birthday celebration. It really was a wonderful world for our special weekend and happy memories will live long in our minds.
Great property, excellent facilities, perfect host. No issues.
Natalie
Wonderful property, well equipped and in beautiful grounds. Would definitely recommend.
Disappointing return visit
Having previously enjoyed a fabulous family celebration at Heather Brae, our return visit was met with sloppy standards and extremely poor customer service. A change in ownership has clearly come with a disappointing deterioration in approach. A glaring tear in the pool table, flies in the annexe, luke warm water throughout and one of the two hot tubs not heated to temperature for 50% of our stay meant we received nothing like the luxurious stay we had paid for. Not an instruction booklet in sight and a complete lack of suitable resolution, any kind of compensation or forthcoming apology from the owner: ?getting hot tub repair companies is not like getting a plumber, you know!? Expecting a customer to pay the sums of money we did and be satisfied with a housekeeper?s (albeit noble) attempt to fix a pool table green with superglue is utterly laughable! Two of the main selling points for us were the pool table and the two hot tubs (not one hot tub, two, there were 20 of us after all!) and none of these features were fully workable. We can forgive errors and we can forgive breakdowns but we cannot forgive the sheer absence of customer service. Messages that were ignored, an unhelpful, dismissive attitude and lack of appreciation for the impact this had on our experience. Thanks for nothing Julian?we overpaid and you definitely under-delivered, leaving a 70-year-old mother and grandmother celebrating her big birthday frustrated and saddened.
Patrick
We had another great stay at Heatherbrae. It is a lovey big house with grounds. The bedrooms are all comfortable, there is plenty of living space and the pool table saw lots of use. The host was very responsive, would definitely recommend.
We had an amazing stay at Heather Brae with my family and friends for my 40th birthday. If youre looking for somewhere for a large get together then look no further. The house is bigger than it looks on the photos, the kitchen has plenty of room and space for 20 people to sit down to eat and socialise together. The various reception rooms also allow for the group to spread out and keep all ages entertained. The grounds and the views are stunning. The kids and the big kids loved the tree house, rope swing, tennis court, football pitch and hot tubs. The pictures simply cant do a place like this justice, it has to be seen to be believed. The bedrooms are all well appointed with a mixture of old a new. The beds, linen and towels are of the highest quality, and the whole place was spotlessly clean. The house has everything you could possibly need, including top of the range coffee machine, drinks fridges, ice machine, pool table, games and log fires. Julian as host was very responsive and helpful throughout our stay. We made some amazing memories and will be sure to return for family gatherings in the future.
Had a fantastic stay for a significant birthday celebration for my wife with family and friends. The bedrooms were comfortable and everywhere downstairs spacious. The kitchen was fanatstic enabling us to cook and eat in comfort. What was particularly good was that there was space for people to go to relax away from the crowd. The hot tubs were great with spectacular views. There was even a tennis court and I played a game for the first time in 40 years, I then needed the hot tub! Would be a really fantastic place to come in the summer beacause of the extensive grounds and all the great walks in that area. If you are planning a celebration this is the place to book.
Nicola
Amazing property. Very accommodating. We had such a lovely time. Some lovely little additions to the property from the owners, so thank you. Would definitely recommend.
This was our second time at Heatherbrae and it didnt fail to meet our expectations! We had a brilliant stay, comfortable, clean and a lot of fun! The host was very helpful and responsive throughout, we will definitely be back
Rowena
Heatherbrae is a beautiful holiday home and was perfect for our stay. The house was ready before our check in time and we were informed that we could check in before our agreed time. I received a courtesy text message half way through our stay to see if everything was as it should be and if there was any problems. Would recommend this home 100
