Was absolutely fabulous we had the most wonderful time with friends and family The amenities were incredible we cooked in the house we went to Punch Bowl which was recommended by Chris the owner the story behind the couple who own the accommodation is so inspirational they deserve all the success and there a reason why its booked up till 2025

We stayed at The Old Water Mill in late November and cannot rate our experience highly enough. The accommodation was absolutely superb with the attention to detail second to none. The location is simply stunning. The welcome we received from Chris and the thoughtful welcome package prepared by Julie was the icing on the cake. We will definitely be returning to this beautiful gem in the future.
Carole
The mill was gorgeous, no amount of photos could capture how stylish it is and what a beautiful setting it is situated in. Having met the owners you can tell it's not just a holiday let to them, they truly care about your stay and they love the mill too,.a lot of love has gone into its renovation and decoration. Chris and Julie are very informative about the area, tell you everything you need to know about the property and make themselves available if you need them during your stay, appreciated their suggestions. Lovely welcome pack on arrival, cake, tea, coffee, milk and jams, all locally sourced. Had a fantastic girls weekend, explored the area for walks enjoying nature, sat in the hot tub looking at the stars and didn't want to leave the beautiful house.
We had the most amazing 6 days, every little detail had been thought off and provided. The tea & coffee and milk in the fridge waiting, the homemade lemon cake was divine!! The house has all the amenities and was so cosy & comfy. The drinks fridge was very well used!! We loved the hot tub off an evening under the stars, the views from the rear off the property are honestly breath taking, we loved seeing how the river changes each day. This house is secluded in the middle off no where with no phone signal and honestly was just what we needed, to switch off. Kendal wasnt too far off a drive and we did get out and explore and area. Everyone in our party 7 of us couldnt fault anything & would gladly return in a heartbeat !!
Omg! Its fantastic. So clean and comfortable. Beautifully furnished. Everything you need. The scenery is breathtaking. The hot tub a bonus. Chris is so welcoming and friendly. And the Lemon Drizzle cake from Julie is heaven. Just book it and see for yourselves. We are going back.
Patricia
This place is in a truly unique position and the quality of the interior is wonderful. The owners are lovely & informative & have created a wonderful place to stay. The stunning countryside is all on the doorstep. Yet the position is close enough to visit any parts of the Lakes. After the fabulous walks the hot tub was the perfect wind down. All in all a fabulous place to stay! Sykes on the other hand were not that helpful. I asked them questions beforehand & was given the wrong information, more than once.
We had a wonderful time at the the Old Water Mill , the setting was fabulous and facilities were amazing. The abundance of nature was particularly important to our daughter, we all loved watching for the wildlife at the river terrace.
Beverley
Totally amazing , Chris met us to show us around , beautiful position and property. Has everything you could wish for. Julie had made us a lemon drizzle cake , the best we have ever tasted. Also a Welcome pack with some lovely goodies and essentials. Stunning in every way. Cant recommend enough . We will defo be back
WOW!! If you are looking for peace and quiet in a stunning location within a first class property with great lake district amenities close by, book this property and you have found your Shangrila . Lovely owners gave us a great tour of the property and all of its amazing amenities on our arrival. We had a super welcome pack complete with a wonderful home made cake. Super bedrooms with very comfortable beds and great ensuite bathrooms. But by far the over the river patio is where you will weather permitting spend most of your time. Many thanks Chris and Julie for sharing your wonderful property with us.
Nicola
Wow, the photos done do it justice. The sound from the river is incredibly soothing. Well stocked kitchen, superb comfortable beds. Living room was super comfortable for 4 adults, not sure how it would be for more. The sunset terrace is a fab place to chill and the hot tub was fab after a day out. Owners are fab. Going to break my golden rule of never returning to the same place and already booking for next year. Fabulous.
Howard
We loved our week long stay it passed by rather too quickly! The cottage was lovely, comfortable and very clean. Chris and Julie were great hosts.
Amazing stay with our friends for my birthday. This cottage has everything you could ever need for a weekend away. Hot tub was a lovely addition especially along side the breathtaking views. Chris and Julie were more than welcoming and were so accommodating the lemon cake was a lovely touch and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We will definitely be returning in the future
Hollie
We had the most enjoyable stay at the Old Mill over the Christmas period. Its a stunning property, in the most amazing setting. The owners were friendly and accommodating and provided a lovely history of the property on arrival. Couldnt fault it one bit and will definitely be returning!
Enjoyed a 3 night stay with a group of friends at The Old Watermill. We go away every December to reconnect and relax. This house was just perfect. So wellequipped. . Lots of thoughtful touches. Spotlessly clean. Just perfect. Host met us on arrival and was so welcoming and warm. . The location with the balcony and river is breathtaking. Just perfect.
Dianne
Stunning property in a stunning location. The Old Water Mill is beautifully decorated to a very high standard, the kitchen is kitted out with all the equipment you can think of, great boot room with extra fridge and freezer too. Bedrooms are also of a high standard, very comfortable beds, lovely linen. Very clean throughout, we met the hosts and they were really lovely we will definitely return!
Hannah
Fantastic property is an absolutely stunning setting. The property was extremely well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Chris, the owner, was incredibly welcoming and helpful, and the little basket of goodies a lovely touch with the lemon drizzle cake the star of the show.
We had a fantastic break at The Old Watermill. The cottage itself is impeccably presented, beautifully and comfortably furnished, spacious and luxurious, and the kitchen better equipped than any I have experienced before in many years of holidaygoing. It had everything! All of that was enough to rate it 1010. But that doesn't even mention the setting which is beyond stunning. The balcony overlooking the river was fabulous, the outdoor furniture gorgeous, and the hot tub the absolute icing on the cake. The hosts were attentive and responsive, went above and beyond to ensure we had a perfect stay, and we did. Well worth every penny we had a wonderful time.
Richard
We had a lovely stay, the house was perfect and we're already planning on when we might be able to come back.
Claire
Flawless property, everything thought of. I would only suggest summer bed linen as duvet tog too thick for this time of year.
Eileen
The Mill was absolutely beautiful! We had a lovely warm welcome from Chris and Julie and they had thought of everything we needed for a perfect stay. The lemon drizzle cake deserves a special mention! The house had a lovely calm atmosphere as well as being spotlessly clean, the kitchen extremely well equipped, and the river and waterfalls were stunning. It was an area of the Lakes that wed never been before and the countryside around was beautiful and very peaceful. Not far away were Windermere, Rydal and Grasmere. Rydal was good for a swim, and there were several good pubs to sample. Thank you Chris and Julie for a wonderful stay in your lovely Mill!
First of all if I could give this ten stars I would. It is a fabulous property nestling by the river Sprint totally hidden from view. Julie and Chris were great hosts, we were given a warm welcome shown around the first class accommodation and were told some history. The attention to detail is truly unreal, everything you needed was included down to things like tinfoil, clingfilm and even dishwasher tablets. Thank you Julie for the little extras on arrival tea, coffee, wonderful home made lemon drizzle cake and even some milk in the fridge. Everything was immaculate and spotless. The location is amazing with the constant flow of the water over the rocks at the rear of the property and a short walk to see the river to the front. We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of an otter scrambling over the rocks at the rear and then fishing in the river at the front. There is so much wildlife around you. At the end of the day there's a lovely hot tub to relax in with a fire pit next to. Truly amazing, this is highly recommend.
Michelle
A truly stunning location. The house is beautiful everything is provided and the decor makes this much more than a holiday home it feels like HOME.
Great holiday home, away from it all yet close to Kendal, 5 min drive away. Lovely touches included, like fresh flowers, welcome starter pack, homemade lemon sizzle thank you Julie. Very helpful and friendly host, thanks Chris. High quality throughout the home. Nice outside area, to watch the world go by....
A beautiful location and accommodation. Would love to revisit
Deborah
WOW! We have stayed in many beautiful places in the last 25 years of visiting the Lakes but this was, by far, the best ever! Our hosts Chris and Julie have made the Old Water Mill into the most fantastic home from home with added luxury, they have truly thought of everything and then more. From the welcome basket, the guided tour, the log burner with an endless supply of logs to the interior dcor and of course the hot tub words are inadequate to describe just how outstanding this holiday home is. The location is absolutely delightful peaceful and beautiful. We cannot recommend the Old Water Mill enough...
Rehima
We stayed here for 7 nights in February. Julie and Chris were the friendliest and most helpful hosts. After our stay here we have have realised a holiday abroad is not always required to relax. It was self catering, the kitchen was equipped with everything needed and it was clear a great deal of thought had gone into the set up and furnishings of the cottage. Each bedroom had an ensuite and the views of the river from every doorwindow were magnificent. The beds were huge and so comfortable! There were lots of opportunities to go hiking during the day and in the evenings the fire was very cosy. The hot tub made the cottage extra special. Julie and Chris live very close by and are available if any assistance is required. Thankyou to Julie and Chris for being wonderful hosts. We have had lots of holidays and travelled extensively, this is definitely in the top 3 of places we have stayed. Hopefully we will see you again in the future!
Callum
Honestly the photos do not do it justice. The house is impeccable, extremely clean and well equipped, the owner has truly thought of everything. I cant recommend this house enough! It is well worth the money.
Taylor
Booked this property for a girly weekend away. The house was beautiful & had everything we could possibly need. Chris the host was lovely! They left us a welcome hamper containing tea, coffee, milk etc & even a homemade lemon drizzle cake. Everything in the house was immaculate & clean, would definitely stay here again !

We met the sweetest and friendliest couple, Chris & Julie who own the old Watermill. They were so helpful and courteous. We loved what they have created with their property. An absolute gem and a peaceful haven tucked away in a wonderful valley in the Lakes. So clean and cozy. Thoroughly enjoyed by the whole family.
Hi Julie and Chris, we wanted to write on the visitors book but unfortunately couldnt find a pen but on behalf of Vishal and me I wanted to say an absolutely huge thank you for your hospitality. Not only was your cottage beautiful in every way but you guys were so helpful and really made us feel embedded within the Lake District for our week. We are ever so grateful to you both and couldnt have asked for a better stay! Every room was stunning and it felt luxury through and through. Thank you!
This was a return trip and yet again we had a very enjoyable stay , would ... This was a return trip and yet again we had a very enjoyable stay , would recommend as a place to stay in the South Lakes

Amazing property with perfect hosts. Thanks so much for a wonderful week away
A beautiful house in an outstanding location. We were made to feel welcome from the start and then throughout our stay. Would easily recommend.
On arrival at The old water mill we were greeted by Chris who gave us a tour of the property and explained where everything was and how everything operated which was a great help for our stay. Chris also told us some of the history of the mill which was very interesting too. The property was beautiful with everything we needed for our week long stay. The attention to detail was second to none, with a lovely welcome pack on arrival of coffee tea bread milk etc and a lovely home made lemon drizzle cake made by Julie
Fantastic stay at the Old Water Mill ! ! Chris and Julie have gone the extra mile to create a wonderful holiday home in a lovely location. There were some lovely walks and great places to visit within a short drive. Have booked again in a couple of months time.
Deborah
Super place to stay The Old Water Mill was absolutely beautiful, inside and out every little detail was catered for. Would certainly recommend it, you would not be disappointed.
Louise
Chris and Julie have made the most magical holiday cottage and make your stay truly personal with a welcome hamper including Julie's amazing lemon drizzle cake. The care and attention to detail, the furnishings, the hot tub and decked area with garden furniture, the decor and so on were all very upmarket and exquisite, it felt like we were self catering at a boutique hotel. We'll be back in 2022 !
Ulrike
It was an absolutely idyllic spot. We did a couple of fantastic walks directly from the house. The hot tub was such a treat and brilliant after strenuous walks and water sports.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 10 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 13 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 22 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 23 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 28 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
