Monks Retreat Reviews

Becky
Games room was a bonus!
Alastair
We had an amazing couple of days over NYE at Monk's Retreat. The cottage was clean, quiet and perfect for our family. The hot tub and games room are a great feature and Tony was the perfect host - he welcomed us and then came to say goodbye but stayed out of our way for the whole stay. The cottage is close enough to the beach and Bude for day tripsRead more but equally peaceful and remote for quiet evenings. We'd definitely come back! Hide
Hayley
Absolutely lovely cottage. Well equipped! Really cosy and comfortable. Lovely hot tub and added bonus of a games room. Absolutely amazing Hosts (thank you!)
Simon
Set in a lovely location and Tony is a very friendly host. Games room was a real bonus as we had a couple of wet days. Made plenty of use of the hot tub. The accommodation will take four. The upstairs room had single beds and a toilet and wash basin. The only shower was in the master en-suite. We were a party of three and it wasn't a problem. Kitch en was functional and well equipped and lounge was comfortable. Free WiFi. We would highly recommend.
Stephanie
Monks Retreat is a lovely place to stay. There is everything you need. The area is very peaceful yet only a short drive into Holsworthy or Bude. We were very grateful for the opportunity to exercise our dog on the farm. The only thing to note is that the garden is enclosed but not secure. The hot tub was a lovely treat and there is also a barbeque provided. The owner is very friendly. We would highly recommend Monks Retreat.
Martin
A friendly welcome awaited us at a lovely well equipped property. Miles from anywhere just what we wantedpeace and tranquility. Yet only 15/20 minutes to the many dog friendly beaches around Bude. There are plenty of places to eat .tea and cake at Sip and Sea at Northcott, The Olive Tree by Bude Canal. Acres of farm land to wander aboutwish we were there for longer.
Heather
A beautify cottage in a beat setting, close enough to drive to amenities but far enough out to switch off and relax. Very peaceful. Cottage well equipped and very cosy. Owners very friendly. The pony, 2 donkeys and chickens made it perfect for my Mum.
Abigail
The cottage was clean, well equipped with comfy beds. We slept so well because it was so quiet and peaceful. The hot tub was very clean and always ready for us. The owner is around if needed but not in your face. The pool table in the games room was a massive bonus. Very good value for money all in all. Would suit 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 childre n. Located perfectly for exploring both Devon and Cornwall. Highly recommend.
Diane
Great cottage and a lovely welcome from owner Tony who had gone the extra mile of decorating the house for our Anniversary. Immediately felt very comfortable and "at home". Thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and games room and the fact there was not a long list of do's and dont's. Thank you Tony (and your son for the tow!)
Mira
The cottage is in quite and remote location, which was lovely and we have enjoyed that. The owner and his daughter were very friendly and welcoming. There was a tasty lemon cake in the kitchen waiting for us on our arrival. We've really enjoyed venturing out and about and after jumping into the hot tub. We have also made a good use of the games roo m especially on some rainy days. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Definitely recommend it.
Lee
Great place.very clean.entertainment with games room and hot tub.10/10 from me.
Billie
The cottage is spacious, clean and in a nice rural location set on a farm. Our dog was able to roam the farm freely and we felt completely safe and the owners were close by in case we needed any assistance. The games room is ideal for families or couples, pool-table and table tennis which was fab! The Hot tub was left hot all week for us so we coul d dip in and out whenever we liked, it was the perfect temperature too! Make sure you have a car to drive to local shops, restaurants etc!
Katie
We stayed for 7 days the owner met us on arrival and was very welcoming and lovely we went out exploring everyday as it was perfectly located to explore different areas if we werent doing that we were enjoying the hot tub and games room. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants an escape.
Jaimie
Very nice cottage. In tge midle of nowhere which was perfect for us. The cottage was roomy and enough for thec4 of us. 2 adults 2 children. The faces room was great entertainment for the kids and us. The owner was really friendly and showed our children around the farm and played football with them. It was a really relaxing week and a short drive t o Widemouth Bay and to Bude. All together a nice place to go to
Lily
We had a lovely stay, the cottage had everything we needed plus more! The games room and hot tub were fantastic. The location was great and use of the fields for the dog were an added bonus. Tony was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
Ian
Lovely cottage, it was a home from home. Brilliantly equipped and everything functioned as it should. The cottage was exactly as described. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Definitely one to come back to.
Andrea
Perfect place to shut off from the world and enjoy some peace and quiet. No wifi was actually good to escape the digital distractions and the hot tub was just perfect looking out on to open field. A real oasis.
Caroline
Very clean cottage with lovely friendly and very helpful hosts. Shame Pyworthy pub not dog friendly. Bude was great with many independent shops. Cottage a little remote but lovely and quiet. Hot tub fantastic. Great holiday. Thank you.
Tracy
A lovely cottage, clean and comfortable. Limited storage for clothes as no wardrobe upstairs and one mirror and limited to wear you can dry your hair. Hot tub was a hit with the teenagers and also the games room. Great if it rained but luckily we had dry weather. No walking distance to pub or shops, definitely have to drive everywhere and wifi/mobi le signal terrible. No point taking the firestick need to take plenty of DVDs if you like to have a drink and stay at home.
Mark
Lovely place to stay. Nice and quiet. Local attractions are easily in reach by car. the location, The property, location and the host were perfect for us.
Gayle
We loved the location, the farm stay with all the space. The welcome from the owner was fantastic and they even gave the children an Easter egg each! Hot tub was great and nice and hot. Bed was very comfortable. Great spot to explore north Devon and into Cornwall, we visited Bude (15 mins away), Boscastle (30 mins away) and Crackington Haven beach (20 mins away). Very peaceful.
Adam
Very nice farm stay. Pet friendly and and relaxing not far to drive to the beaches . Would stay again
Cathryne
Cottage is beautiful Location very peaceful
LISA
I would not rate this cottage as 4 star in comparison with other holiday cottages that we have stayed at. Do not be fooled there is no Wifi and you have limited 3G on any mobile device. The accommodation is very tired and in desperate need of updating, the rugs and carpets have definitely seen better days. Strong smell of damp in bedrooms and bathr oom. No Covid policy / instructions. No local information or ability to access any. Overall very disappointed with quality of accommodation.
