Rum Bush Cottage Reviews

Everything was as described, owner was very helpful and responded quickly to any query. The house was clean, cosy and warm on arrival and the hot tub was well used over the Xmas period. We even had a tree and decorations. We had a lovely break, myself and my daughter and we even had our cat with us
We had an brilliant time! The cottage was cosy, the heating was already on when we got there which, given the recent cold snap, was much appreciated. It's only a short drive from Appleby if you want to pop out for supplies or a pub lunch. The location was perfect for walks with our dog and the view from the hot tub made it even better. Would highly recommend, we will definitely be back!
We love this cottage, we were first there in August 2023 and have just returned from another week, which was the soonest we could manage! Very nice owners, the place is spotlessly clean, the heating was on for our arrival and the makings of a log fire ready! Great area, feels very remote, cut off yet isnt at all! Very peaceful. Id highly recommend it so long as you dont want the weeks I want!
We had a lovely weeks break at rum bush cottage, a very quite warm and ... We had a lovely weeks break at rum bush cottage, a very quite warm and comfortable cottage everything you needed was there, lovely walks and views, we will visit again
Cottage had stunning views and was well equipped, warm and cosy. Great walks from the cottage so no need to use the car all the time. Owners were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.
Great cottage & location, sitting in the hot tub looking at those views! Very friendly owners, was great to see a new sheep dog being trained. Loads to do around and nearby, cottage has everything youll need. Definitely recommend, only regret not staying longer!

Had a lovely comfortable stay at Rum Bush. The location was fab, cottage was basic but had everything we needed. It was perfectly clean and the hot tub worked well the lid just needs replacing. One of the light bulbs was flickering but this was replaced for us as soon as we reported it. The price was very reasonable. We would definitely recommend staying here.
Melanie
Great customer service from Sykes. Great location and communication about Rum BushCottage. Everything you need and views to die for
Perfect place to stay for walks straight out of the door, didnt use the car for 2 days, even the local pub is within walking distance. The Stag Inn in Dufton is lovely and friendly dogs also welcome and the food is delicious
Nice property, clean warm and well managed. The design and decor wasnt as high as what you might expect from a Sykes property and the hot tub was a bit battered, but is did work on one setting. Overall quite happy
We had a wonderful stay at Rum Bush cottage. The owners were very accommodating especially as we on booked on the morning of our arrival. The cottage was very clean and well maintained, with a spacious living and dining area on the first floor of the cottage which allowed for great views down over the Pennines. Ideally located in a rural setting with great walks on the doorstep but still close to all amenities in Appleby. The hot tub is a great addition especially on a clear night, there were hundreds of stars out. Some great villages around the area and a visit to The Stag Inn at Dufton is a must. We will certainly return to this cottage.
Michelle
A fantastic well equipped cottage. It had everything we needed for a long weekend. It was cosy & warm. The hot tub was fab! & the fenced garden area was great for our dog. We will definitely be returning
Angela
A beautiful cottage with stunning views. The cottage was very clean with lots of homely personal touches. The hot tub was also very clean and very much needed after our daily hikes. We had a really lovely few days and will definitely return again next year, if we can find some availability.
Lovely cottage, wonderful views even the rainstorms added to the panorama.
Lovely break away. The cottage is a perfect location to escape humans ,wifi and life !!!! Amazing. Owners extremely lovely and helpful !! Will definitely stay again
Every second weekend we take the kids away for a long weekend as a family treat, so glad we have come across this delightful charming cottage. Its just what we need to relax in this beautiful country side. The cottage was very welcoming extremely clean cosy and everything we needed was available in Run Bush cottage, the kids enjoyed the friendly sheep. Will be returning shortly for another weekend winter escape, possibly new year.

Really pleased with this cottage. Beautiful location, everything you needed in the property we had an issue with the hot tub which was fixed straight away, we were staying over Xmas and they dropped us more logs off as it was very cold. Highly recommend we will be booking again.
Excellent location. Good facilities. We were made to feel welcome and at home. Highly recommended
Super location for visiting the lake district.
Came back from Rum Bush cottage thoroughly refreshed once again. Absolutely love this place. Looking out from the hot tub at the beautiful landscape is definitely the icing on the cake. Cant wait to go back!
This is a lovely little cottage in a lovely location. Wonderful views of the surrounding countryside. The cottage was well equipped and the hot tub is fantastic after a days walking. The cottage could do with some wi fi maybe in this day and age to look up details for your holiday activities as the mobile data signal here is not good! Apart from that everything was perfect.
Samantha
A truly lovely place to stay, so clean and everything you need. Home from home. Enjoy the surrounding area its beautiful, right on the doorstep
Graham
A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. Very clean and welcoming.
Really fantastic location and hot tub was a great feature. Everything was in order from cleanliness to useful facilities e.g tumble dryer, cutlery and crocery , lovely bathrooms. We had a great time taking on some challenging walks, also kayaking, and could come back and enjoy the hot tub, and log fire too. The lady on site was wonderful and friendly. We had lambs for neighbours and we loved watching them! Otherwise, not overlooked at all and felt nice and secluded. Only negatives are the taps just needs some general maintenance almost every tap would not turn off, and remained dripping. The DVD player struggled a bit on a lot of our different DVDs we brought. But otherwise perfect place and we would love to come back!
Victoria
Beautiful home from home cottage in an idyllic location.
Rum bush cottage is a wonderful cottage set in an idyllic location. It is in the ideal location for total rest and recuperation. The cottage was absolutely spotless on arrival with all the amenities required and the hot tub was clean and maintained regularly throughout our stay. As you sit in the hot tub you can look out onto views of the Cumbrian countryside. The locals are friendly and happy to offer advice and there are sheep literally outside the front door. We would absolutely recommend Rum bush cottage as a holiday destination and we will definitely be returning.

I thoroughly thoroughly thoroughly recommend this cottage! !! When the world began opening up from lockdown... We went here for a week instead with our 2 children age 7 and 3. We absolutely loved it. The most idyllic place with stunning views and just so peaceful. It had an enclosed garden but we went out the little back gate and played in the fields and explored.. This was our little evening walk every evening! The hot tub was perfect however the screen didn't work so couldn't see the temperature and we wanted to lower it for our children. Eve kindly left the thermometer so we just used this instead! Beautiful walks nearby. Mr Wharton was great, he rang on check out to say not to rush and the cleaner would be with us slightly later! I left my lattee machine there and couldn't get through to Sykes at all... He kindly posted it back to me. We would 100 go again and I don't often say that. Usually we can't afford things like this but with the schools being closed we could go outside of school holidays! It was so needed as we had both been working through lockdown and managing our children too... What a way to unwind. Thank you so much!!
Richard
Lovely, homely cottage, loads of hot water, comfy beds, wonderful views. Perfect place to relax
The cottage is so lovely and cosy and the hot tub is a perfect treat at the end of a day walking. It is in the middle of nowhere and is a good 30 minute to the nearest pub which has amazing food but its just what we wanted. Great walks straight from the door of the cottage and the log fire is great too!
The place was perfect we had the most relaxing week away. The cottage has everything we needed would definitely recommend
Really enjoyed our holiday at Rumbush. The location is awesome for the fantastic scenery. The owner Mr Wharton and housekeeper Eva were so friendly and helpful. The hot tub was the icing on the cake. The local area has loads of great walks, scenery and lots of great local food options.
Lovely stay in an idilc location with amazing views. Our 1 year old daughter had a fantastic time. Cant wait to visit again!
Storage in rooms very limited, so we barely unpacked. Otherwise a lovely place with a selection of superb walks from the door. The kids loved it, particularly the upside down layout and the Hot Tub! Warnings. The valley and high moors can be very windy so bring warm kit. The descent through High Cup Nick is not for the fainthearted!
Lovely little cottage enjoyed our stay. Hot tub was amazing.lady next door was lovely and friendly happy to answer any questions.would definitely stay here again very reasonably priced too.
Lorraine
Cottage was well equipped and spacious, hot tub was excellent. great location for walks
Nicola
We stayed as a family with our son for a birthday treat for my husband and what a treat it was. The cottage has everything you need and the views from the hot tub are outstanding. We will be definitely be back, thankyou.
This being our 3rd time at the cottage we knew what to expect. Everything was good.Cottage very cosy and hottub lovely and relaxing. Could do with mop so kitchen floor can be done after hottub been used. Would be nice if there was bucket or hose outside so muddy boots can be cleaned but other than that lovely x
Nicola
The cottage could do with more instructions as on arrival I couldnt turn the oven on. Also the hot tub wasnt looked at from fri to Monday and that was only because I rang and said I wasnt happy at it been left without chlorine etc. The house is full of spiders to the point I couldnt sleep but I am very frightened, I realise not much can be done about this. The lady next door looks after the cottage but was away most of our stay. The owner was very helpful and came as soon as he realised we were left alone. Excellent facilities however as we were two couples staying together it was awkward. With only 1 shower the main bathroom only has a bath, needs a shower fitting over the bath. The main bed and bedroom is very very small and the second bedroom is 2 singles which didnt suit our situation. Was in nice location.
