Walnut Cottage Reviews

Walnut Cottage was everything we expected and more. The views were spectacular and the whole surroundings were very well maintained and we loved it that much we would recommend and go again. This property is a credit to the owners.
Darren
Great property location to get out and explore both ends of the coast. A nice mix of old barn style fixtures and gadgets Netflix and internet and hot tub is a great bonus at the end of the day. Main bed for be a bit too soft otherwise a great find.
Lovely little Cottage, Quiet, private and very peaceful, We would happily go and stay there again.
2nd visit to this cottage and both visits were excellent, site is wonderful, cottage is brilliant and the hot tub is a bonus, will certainly be coming back.
Lynette Eileen
Had a lovely relaxing week in a lovely setting. Staff were friendly, the jacuzzi was wonderful and lovely and clean. The cottage was very clean and adequate as we were out most days. The garden area was nice and had both shade and sun.
Very nice cottage in a lovely setting. Loved the wildlife. Location was good for us. Well maintained , very private perfect for us.
Walnut cottage can be summed up in one word. Perfect. We had a great time and wish we had booked 2 weeks instead of one. The whole idea of Mum and myself was to have a peaceful and relaxing week after what has been a very stressful year for us. Peace and relaxation was exactly what we got. We can't wait to come back.
Carolyn
Lovely property in quiet setting, we had a very nice relaxing week
The cottage was suberb, lovely and clean and within easy reach of fantastic beaches. My only criticism as such, is that as it was dog friendly, that the gardens be enclosed . This wasnt a big problem by any means but more if a preference on our part as it is easier just to let the dogs out rather than having to put them on a lead.
Stephanie
Lovely property, great hot tub! The location is really convenient and the cottage has all the facilities you need. Great staff onsite and I would highly recommend booking here!
Hayley
We loved our stay and enjoyed the location. The cottage was as described in the advert. A minor point with the oven, there didnt seem to be a way of telling it was up to temperature.
Gillian
We think that the proximity of the nearest pub should be more accurate in the description as it is more than a mile.
A lovely cottage in a great location
The cottage is in a lovely position with beautiful views. We had a very enjoyable time in this well kept and cosy cottage and although the mornings were quite cold with frost on the ground we were never cold at all. The hot tub was a very enjoyable bonus as were the televisions in every room. The only small quibble I have is that we could have done with a proper freezer, not just a small part of the fridge, but we managed and we were there for nearly two weeks.

Water pressure was none existent so having a shower was nearly impossible, the water pressure good for 90120 seconds then turned to a dribble. Not the end of the world but after a 10 mile hike its good to have a refreshing shower. The owners were very polite but stayed in the background, We turned up early and the cottage was clean and empty so we went in, the owner did turn up an hour later and we were unpacked and settled and to their credit didnt make an issue about it, which meant a lot as it was raining heavily and to have had to sit in the car for two hours wouldnt have been great.
Advertised as being within a mile of a pub but in reality the cottage is nowhere near either of the two local pubs and certainly not walking distance especially after dark. Please change the description to be more accurate.
Robert
The cottage was in an excellent location for sightseeing in Somerset and beyond. Plenty of good pubs locally to eat out. Hot tub was a real hit.
Perfect location. Lovely and cosy cottage, has absolutely everything you could need. Exceptionally clean. Lovely family holiday in a quiet and private setting.
Beautiful site and lovely cottage no complaints at all and would definitely recommend
I think you delivered everything you stated. Modern comfy furnishings.
Had a week away at the end of November to spend some time walking along the coast and exploring Exmoor. The location of the site was ideal for this being a short drive from Dunster and the coast. Accommodation was excellent as it was warm and comfortable with everything we needed. The site was lovely and quiet. The hot tub was ideal for relaxing after many hours of walking and it was checked and maintained each day by Dan or by Louis the site owner. We had a really pleasant and relaxing stay.
Jennifer
The site was lovely and clean. All cottages were sited to be very private. Cottage was exceptionally clean with lovely facilities. The hot tub was a bonus. It was cleaned every morning. It would be nice if the garden was fenced so you could let your dog out whilst you sat in the sun.
Josephine
Walnut Cottage is delightful, we have been 6 times we love it so much, very dog friendly. Lloyd and Lyne wonderful hosts, nothing to much trouble. Lovely places to visit especially Dunster Castle. We shall be booking again very soon.
Cottage was beautiful and kept in lovely grounds. Although several cottages together it felt private. Lloyd kept the hot tub clean. They even provided you with 4 sun loungers. Overall it was a lovely holiday in a beautiful location
The cottage was just what we needed, quiet, private and in a lovely setting. Only a few miles from the delightful village of Watchet and stunning bay and beach at Blue Anchor. We are already booking to go back. Thank you
Spotless top to bottom lovely time
Josephine
This is our 4th visit to Walnut Cottage, it's always so lovely to go back and see Lloyd and Sharon they are so kind nothing to much trouble. I highly recommend a visit . We hope to go back again later in the year
A lovely cottage, well equipped, maintained and spotlessly clean. Would definitely stay again
We felt for the price and in a house sleeping four adults one single roll of toilet paper was not enough. We had to ask for a second which was embarrassing! Also in a cottage with a hot tub more than one towel per adult was definitely needed. Or we ought to be advised to bring our own. There was a washing machine but no dryer so couldn't even wash them. On arrival we had no light... Which was quickly sorted but still not a good first impression. Then shortly after we lost water too. The site manager came in to fix this issue but we were sat having dinner and he worked around us in quite a small space, climbing a ladder millimetres away from my plate. Not good!
Sharon
Quiet and peaceful with plenty of lovely walks. Advertised very accurate with all information we required. Second time stayed and booked with walnut cottage and would still go back again. Our third time booked with Sykes cottages and would book again plenty of places and areas to go. Very good all round company thanks again
Veronica
The comfort of the cottage was great. The hot tub was amazing and lovely and private. The kitchen was well equipped but lacked a decent dinner plate, we had to go out and buy four plates to serve our dinner on. Other than that, couldn't fault it.
Lovely Cottage and hot tub, really enjoyed our stay, very quiet, just what we needed.
Tracey
It's was the most stess free holiday I have ever had . My family enjoyed it the hot tub was fantastic and it was great for Nuala the German Shepherd had the greatest time ever So good that we hope to come again twice next year thank you very much
A lovely quiet spot. Clean and cosy cottage. Could hear the peacocks and monkeys from the nearby zoo in the morning. Hot tub particularly welcome after long days spent walking. Gemma was welcoming and helpful. Garden might be improved by enclosed fencing for those visitors like us who have a dog. A great base in which you can explore the local area and we left feeling relaxed and rejuvinated !
Rebecca
The position of the cottage is perfectly private and we felt at ease about our two excited boys playing outside without upsetting people in nearby cottages. The facilities within the cottage were outstanding, even down to pegs for the washing line, washing up liquid, every type of utensil, pot and pan so that if you wanted to make a full dinner you had the means to do so. I was very pleased to see mattress and pillow protectors on all beds although I did bring my own waterproof one for my youngest who occasionally gets caught short at night. As well as the standard dustpan and brush, there was a vacuum cleaner and mop and bucket. We even had boxes of games to play as a family. We all enjoyed having underfloor heating in the wet room along with a heated towel rail. Quite simply, it's the most well equip cottage we have ever stayed in. The location of the cottage is great, and very accessible to the main routes around the South West, so day trips were trouble free, and there is a lot to see and do in the area. We found the owners friendly and helpful, and there if you needed them. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again if we chose to holiday in the area again.
Michael
We had a great relaxed holiday in our home away from home. It had a huge welcoming feel from when you pull into the driveway. We were given a warm welcome from the start. The cottage and hot tub were very clean. I would recommend this place to everyone and hope to visit again ourselves.
The owner was happy to help with anything we wanted, he was on hand if we needed help. The cottage was spotless and we and our dogs were made to feel welcome. The location was excellent and we enjoyed trips out to the local amenities. We enjoyed a visit to the coast and also Taunton. The cottage was all on one level which was great for my mum and our dogs. Lovely restful week and would visit again.
A little worn in general with furniture but comfortable. A small welcome pack or at least a cleaning product would be nice. Garden chairs need replacing. Windows needed cleaning. Hot tub fabulous. Gemma brilliant. Nothing too much trouble. A credit to the team at Shells Cottages.
Well located, small, single story holiday let with little garden
Walnut cottage was really nice. Site manager Gemma was fabulous - great host and always available. Hot tub was the real selling point to this cottage, well maintained and a very wise investment. Cottage was mostly clean and well equipped. However there are one or two things to note. The garden is not enclosed so dog owners be wary that the 'quick wee' at night requires a lead for roaming pups. The grey gravel surrounding the cottages and parking areas is very dusty and makes a bit of a mess inside. In terms of size, although this is a four person, two bedroom holiday cottage the beds in the second bedroom are bunks and they are small. Probably suitable for a family with little children. The bed in the main bedroom is a double divan with no head board and felt particularly small. It's also on wheels. So if you like to sit up and read in bed you will probably scoot across the room like we did! Completely understand selling a cottage on a website with nice photos but the little touches weren't evident. No cushions on the bed, just the 'no dogs on sofa' cushion, no throws, no little touches in the bathroom as per photos etc. As for cleanliness it was all pretty nice and clean but we did notice huge cobwebs on the skylights that had clearly been there for some time, the coffee table was sticky. Just little things really and nothing so significant it spoilt our holiday but maybe just not quite meeting expectation of a 'luxury' cottage. It is well located for things to do, most of which are at least partially dog friendly. Dunster Castle gardens was a favourite and the Torre cider farm. All in all a nice relaxing break.
Adrian
The whole experience was a pleasure, from the moment we arrived till the moment we left. Gemma the site manager made us welcome and was helpful and available for advice and information on the local area. My wife and I would have no hesitation in recommending Shell Cottages to anyone.
