About Mellydonen Beder Del (Melly), Tor Down Quarry

Mellydone Beder Del is a stunning, single-storey lodge situated on the outskirts of St Breward in Cornwall. Set within a large quarry and with two lakes, this unique retreat offers a first-class getaway for families and friends to Cornwall.

Illuminated with natural light, the contemporary open-plan living space offers a delightful space to relax in the evening; take a seat on the sumptuous sofa before the Smart TV, tuning into your favourite on-demand shows or simply reminiscing over the holiday so far. Head to the breakfast bar and keep the chef of the group company whilst they get acquainted with all the mod cons, including an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and a dishwasher, so you won’t have to lift a finger when it comes to washing up!

When the evening draws to a close, retire to one of the three bedrooms, each tastefully furnished with crisp white bed linen and enjoying en-suite facilities and Smart TVs, so you can resume your binge watching in bed! After the thrill and excitement of a day on the moors or enjoying the exhilarating lakes, relax in the hot tub out on the terrace, before returning to the lodge, or gather your loved ones for an alfresco meal.

When it comes to dining out, you have two of the finest moorland pubs in Cornwall just two miles away; head to the award-winning Old Inn, dating back to the 11th century, or book a table at the Blisand Inn, famous for its quality range of real ale and former national CAMRA pub of the year award. Nearby, Poley’s Bridge marks the beginning of the Camel Trail, a 17-mile long route, which follows a long, disused old steam engine railway line to Padstow.

Mellydonen Beder Del (Melly), Tor Down Quarry Reviews

We absolutely love staying at Tor Down Quarry. This is our third stay. Previously we have stayed in Costentyn lodge but this year we stayed in Mellydonen. All the lodges are beautiful, really well kitted out, everything has been thought out so well. We loved the position of Melly, with the most incredible views over Bodmin moor from the hot tub. The owners Kirsty and John are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble. On a previous stay we got a flat tyre on the last evening. Kirsty helped us with food for the kids as we were supposed to be going out, and John helped us get to the garage the next day. Really went out of their way to help. Its perfectly located to visit the north coast of Cornwall, but also the surrounding areas which is more inland , and the village of St Breward is lovely too for gorgeous walks, and has a brilliant pub. Totally recommend the Sunday roast! We dont return every year as we always think we should try somewhere new, but then we have to come back as nowhere in Cornwall compares for us. We will definitely be back.
Had a lovely stay here. . beautiful lodge, comfortable, well equipped & fabulous hot tub which was enjoyed very much. Delicious scones & cream tea for 5 left by Kirsty a lovely touch Thank you
Michael
Everything with the property was just perfect. The layout of the property was exactly what we hoped for and a lot more. Amazing views from the hot tub. Cant wait to return.
We absolutely loved our stay at Tor Down Quarry. Kirsty and Paul were so friendly, helpful and accommodating. The property itself was fantastic. The facilities were great and beautiful choices of furniture. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Bodmin Moor, near a lovely village and well placed to travel to places of interest around Cornwall, Torr Down Quarry holds its own beauty with 2 quarry lakes to swim in. Lots of space to enjoy outside the cabin and sitting in the hot tube looking at the stars was a highlight. Inside the property doesn't feel like a cabin, but a very well presented cosy bungalow. We will definitely be back

This was the best find a true hidden gem. As a large family we wanted to escape the rat race and have some quality time together. This was really perfect! Melly was more than we expected very clean, lovely welcome pack and treats on arrival, so much outside space, very private with nothing overlooking you from the decking space and hottub which was amazing to enjoy the stunning views and gorgeous sunsets. The lodge itself its ready to live in it has everything you could need and more. We loved that each room had its own bathroom. But our favourite was the open plan kitchen, dining, living area such a great space and perfect for family time even when cooking etc Kirsty and John gave us a lovely welcome when we bumped into them in our first evening stroll Kirsty walked us round the quarry, showed us where the lakes were and recommended local spots to visit too. Such lovely people who didnt encroach on privacy but were around and available if needed. We were in the lake every day and the quarry is a real serene place to enjoy the outside even in the rain we were enjoying in the lake This place really is a gem perfect surroundings, real high quality lodges, great location if you do want to have days out, lovely owners and views for miles especially from Melly Ive fallen in love with it here and already planning our return visit for next year if not before! Really found a little bit of heaven in Tor Down Quarry

We had a fantastic time at Melly, a really lovely property very clean in a wonderful quiet location. 5 adults and 2dogs thoroughly enjoyed our week away. Kirsty was a great host gave us great advice on where to dine all appreciated and the scones, jam and cream were a real surprise. Many thanks hope to return soon. Jo and family

We have visited Cornwall every year for many summers. This is the first time we have booked here and it is honestly the best place we have ever stayed! The lodge and surroundings exceeded all expectations. Everything about it is just beautiful. The lodge is immaculate, beautifully decorated, clean and well equipped for all your needs. The lakes are stunning and fantastic to fish or paddleboard! Kirsty is a fantastic host, popped in on arrival to check everything was to our liking and if we needed anything. Kirsty and her family are so welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be booking again for our future visits to beautiful Cornwall.
Idyllic , peaceful location with amazing sunset, views and lakes. Cabin exceeded our expectations with its high level of cleanliness , homeliness , every thing very well thought out for the utmost pleasure and ease of use, our grandson so loved the hot tub .. Kirsty was an extremely friendly , yet unobtrusive host . Would highly recommend staying here .
Melly was an incredible place. Very beautifully set out with lovely furniture, comfortable beds and everything you needed for the perfect stay. Very private in its tucked away corner with a lovely hot tub too and stunning views made even more wonderful by seeing the Aurora Borealis. We will be back!

From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Melly , the hosts, who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and wellbeing throughout our stay. Excellent Value for Money Tor Down Quarry offered exceptional value for what we paid. The accommodation was impeccably clean, wellmaintained, and provided all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The location proved to be ideal, offering easy access to beaches and we do have own hot bath outdoor in a complete view of country side Enhancing the Holiday Experience The true highlight of our stay was the warm hospitality extended by Melly. They were incredibly knowledgeable about the area and provided invaluable recommendations on things to do and see. Excellent accommodation and great value for money!
We had a lovely stay at Tor Down Quarry and were made to feel very welcome by the owners. The views are stunning and it is a very peaceful location with an excellent pub within walking distance. The accommodation was really well equipped and had everything that we needed for our stay. The location is great as you get to relax in the countryside but are just a short drive to a number of attractions such Bodmin Jail, The Eden Project and the beaches of Padstow.

A really relaxed break. Will return
The property was absolutely perfect beutiful grounds all well kept the two lakes upper and lower both amazing the granite rock mirrored in the still waters of the lakes breathtaking. the complex its self is quite central for visiting both north and south coastlines which we did making sure we got back in time to enjoy a soak in the hot tub.
We had a lovely stay here, the photos dont do the place justice. The view is absolutely stunning. Everything in the cabin is well maintained and high quality.
This is our second visit to Tor Down Quarry and we had a fantastic time! The lodge was lovely and spacious. It was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need and then some! The view was stunning, with a gorgeous sunset on the doorstep! Nothing is too much trouble for Kirsty! We had a small glitch on our arrival and she quickly sorted it out! We can't wait till our next visit! 5 star all the way!
The property was really lovely, beautiful surroundings. The property was for 6 people, but had much more crockery , glasses etc to accommodate 6, and lots of cooking utensils as well. The owner came up to see us just after we arrived, she was very friendly and made sure we knew how to contact her if there were any problems there werent and and also told us what was in the area. Lovely peaceful place and the hot tub was a definite winner with us all. We would definitely recommend this property. Also a cream tea waiting for us was a lovely touch.
Justine
Mellydonen was a little slice of heaven. Three generations of women had a perfect stay. The lodge was absolutely beautiful inside with plenty of space, spotlessly clean. With a huge Veranda, the outdoor space and privacy with 180 view was stunning. Not overlooked at all. we felt like we were in a different world. I cannot recommend this lodge highly enough. We had such a fantastic peaceful holiday. The Veranda is a real sun trap all day. The added bonus of a daily swim in the lake for both my dogs was fantastic. Both the lakes are beautiful. The quarry is packed with bird life. Lots of bunnies bouncing around in the evening. Kirsty the host was on site if needed, but you had total privacy. Oh and lets not forget the hot tub, my 83yearold mother fell in love with it, and we watched the sunset from here almost every night. I cannot wait to return next year.
Another amazing stay at Mellydonen, our third time now and we already want to come back again! We love this place, so peaceful and in a gorgeous setting. Kirsty and family are so friendly and always around if you need anything. Until the next time!
Angela
We had a lovely weeks holiday, although the weather wasn't good! . Our holiday home was so much better than we thought it was lovely, very warm, spacious, & the view was amazing. Kirsty was lovely, very helpful & our 2 Grandsons didn't want to go home. Will we be coming back???. Most definately.
We've just had a amazing week staying in 'melly' which was fantastically equipped and spotlessly clean. Kirsty and her family were the perfect hosts. The nearby town of St Breward is also lovely with the all important shop and pub within walking distance. Can't fault a thing about it. So I think we'll be back before long!
Natalie
Had a fantastic stay at Melly. Location is perfect. The lodge itself had everything we needed and was spacious and conformable. Owners were super helpful and quick to respond to any questions we had. Would love a return visit. Have recommended to family and friends.
We had a wonderful week staying in Melly at Tor Down Quarry, St. Breward. The accommodation was warm, comfortable, clean and in a delightful situation that was private, had excellent views & walks and central for us to visit family and local touristy areas. We would definitely recommend this property, and hope to come back again on our next family holiday.
Kieron

Absolutely fantastic stay, very clean and comfortable, everything you needed was at the cabin. the views were amazing especially as the sun set. Both the quarry lakes were lovely and very quiet. Would definitely highly recommend a stay here
Karanne
The lodge was absolutely gorgeous and so spacious. We have 2 older teenagers and we all had room to be apart when we needed to. Clean and tidy with everything you need. Perfect location and close to beaches etc. Hot tub was great and lovely to watch the sunsets. Our lodge Melly was positioned so we didn't feel overlooked and we were totally private. Would definitely come back.
Joanne
A great place to stay to explore Cornwall. Clean and tidy and with everything you need to be as relaxing or adventurous as you please! Will definitely be returning to explore more of the beautiful county, I may even brave a swim in one of the lakes!
Michael
I loved the place the kids loved it plenty to keep yourselves occuppied if staying on site and plenty in surrounding areas. .just getting up every morning to the views is worth it..we will be back in future
Brilliant holiday lodge had everything we needed. Son in law and Maisie the dog had a great swim in the quarry on the hottest day of the year. We will be booking for next year.
Excellent in every respect. Cream scones and jam on arrival was the starting touch.
Excellent accommodation, very comfortable with outstanding views around. It was lovely to sit in the hot tub and take in the glorious views around, good for wildlife watching, a deer walked past the dinning room window on our first night. The host were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely book again if visiting Cornwall. 5 star accommodation, 5 star views and 5 star hosts.
We have just got back from our staycation to Tor Down Quarry and what a holiday we have had! On arrival, the lodge was immaculate and very homely. It had all the facilities you could wish for and the owners also thought about all the basic necessities, no need to bring towels, linen, kitchen utensils and the like as this lodge has it all. The highlight was the views from the hot tub in the evening, a great place to wind down. We also took a trip to the lake on sight and it was a memory we won't forget! Needless to say I would 100 recommend this lodge to anyone wanting to stay in Cornwall, we can't wait to go back!
Victoria
Had as b excellent stay. Everything was perfect. Arriving to scone and treats for our dog was just perfect. Kirsty the owner was fabulous. Will definitely be vack
Michelle
We loved it, from the moment we arrived everything was as described. The kids called me and were excited about their bedroom, the drawers and the best bathroom ever, and we can even watch Netflix in bed!! We had everything we needed and all the essential comforts, a well equipped kitchen and plenty of apace for a family of six, the views from the hot tub were amazing and we made good use of the indoor and outdoor space. We quickly got used to our location what3words is essential to locating the cabin on arrival. Fab location as we used it as a bolt hole to explore Cornwall with some lovely beaches in 1020 miles.
We have just returned from a fantastic stay. The cabin was extremely clean and comfortable. Kirsty and John were very welcoming and the scenery was beautiful. We have already booked in for our next stay there... can't wait!
Ashleigh
The lodge was bigger, brighter and more spacious than we expected. The cream tea on arrival was a lovely touch and Kirsty couldn't do enough to make sure we had everyone we needed or wanted. Will definitely be back for a swim in the lakes when it's a little bit warmer.
Amazing stay! Very clean, very quiet and out of the way. Beautiful views just out of the window! Really loved our stay here and it is an amazing cabin!
