Bluebell Cottage Reviews

Jackie
What a gem of a find thank you. It is well situated to access the lakes. The cottage was so lovely. The welcome package was so appreciated. Its the little things that make the holiday special. The rooms were well equipped and comfortable. Love the little lights in the bathroom. The beds were really comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped although the bottom oven didnt work. The hot tub was great and very private. We will definitely use Sykes cottages again.
Christine
Lovely cottage but need instructions for things like oven and heating. Had to Google for oven and tried turning up thermostat for heating but didn't work. Needs more coat hangers and shelvesdrawers in bedrooms. Otherwise it was a lovely place to stay
Excellent cottage. Very comfortable beds and chairs. Excellent large towels. Ideal hot tub with scaffolding framework allowing disabled person to be able to get in and out. Only disappointment was the starter pack for the wood burner which was totally inadequate eventhough we had specifically requested it.
Christine
Lovely, comfortable , well equiped cottage with the treat of a hot tub . Unfortunately the drainage in one of the en suites had a problem . The shower tray overflowed into the rest of the bathroom and the water in the toilet after flushing reached the top of the bowl which was worrying . I hope It was fixed because it was a lovely cottage .
Overall lovely stay. Wouldn't return due to the noise transfer between the wooden interconnecting door in the living room to the nextdoor property. The noise from nextdoor was excessively loud where you could hear the TV and people talking quite clearly
Tiffany
Had a lovely stay. It was nice waking up seeing the sheep outside. We requested 2 cot beds and when we arrived they hadn't been set up but after ringing the office they sorted this very quickly think they had been set up in the neighboring cottage by mistake the site manager was super helpful. Used the log burner and hot tub during the stay which we needed due to the recent weather! Few maintenance notes the headrest on one part of the hot tub kept coming loose we had to keep sticking back on. The bottom part of the oven also didn't work during our stay but we made do with the top part with no issues. A note to anyone taking a baby the front bedroom is probably better as not as loud during windy weather! Would definitely stay again!
Graeme
Very happy with all aspects of holiday other than the shower floor in the smaller bedroom needs some attention and a knock the morning of our checkout would of been great as we were in the kitchen and someone was to the rear of the property were the hot tub was. We understood things needed doing but just a little warning would of been nice.

A lovely cottage ,tastefully decorated, a most enjoyable weekend way
Fabulous property, all furnishings are excellent quality, perfect for two couples, with two good size bedrooms and ensuites. The only negative was the hot tub wasnt working the whole time we were there, we chose this property because of the hot tub and Im sure we will have paid extra for this feature, very disappointing. Mandy
Great stay and perfect little cottage. Would definitely recommend!

We had an amazing stay in Bluebell cottage, the decor was done to a high standard, it was spotless and incredibly comfortable. I did have an issue with the cctv camera and had contacted Sykes when I read other reviews about it, I wanted to know if the cameras were only for use when the cottages were empty but Sykes couldn't get hold of the owners after several attempts, I was offered the chance to cancel my booking but I decided I still wanted to go! Couple of things we felt the cottage could do with, hairdryer, barbecue, plastic glasses for the hot tub and a net to get the creepy crawlies out the hot tub! I spoke to the lovely maintenance man about the garden furniture been in the front garden rather than the back and he said guests keep moving it there but he did say he would have moved it into the back if we had mentioned it earlier. I would recommend this cottage and would return to it myself.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Bluebell cottage. It was cosy and comfortable and the views were amazing. The hot tub was fabulous and would definitely stay here again
Heather
We had a lovely week at Bluebell Cottage very clean, spacious cottage, fully equipped, lovely views of the sea and a great hot tub. Great base to explore the local area would recommend if staying with children taking some blackout blinds as its very light upstairs in the evening. Thank you for a wonderful break x
Louise
We had a fantastic week. The property was very clean and comfortable. Set out with extremely comfortable beds, and a soft snuggly sofa. The kitchen is well stocked. The only issue was the microwave which didn't heat food up properly, then overheated and turned its self off for a few minutes. The hot tub was wonderful and there were automatic outdoor lights when it got dark. It is possible to hear the neighbours talking when in the living room, as walls are quite thin. Bangs of the doors, echo upstairs too. The surrounding area is quiet and as you park off the main road, it is easy to go out for the day and avoid heavy traffic. If you are hoping the pub is close enough to walk to its not, but there is a pizza takeaway you can walk to. Overall a fantastic break away in a cosy cottage.
Another wonderful stay at Bluebell Cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at Bluebell Cottage. Overall it's lovely and comfortable and made a great base for the week. The cottage was refurbished in 2016 and is fairly well maintained. Beds and sofa are comfortable. Hot tub is showing signs of wear and tear but didn't stop us from enjoying and using it. Having the option of the adjoining door is great for larger groups, but it did mean that we could hear every conversation and phone call our neighbours had and they could likely hear us too. The furthest we ventured was up to Pooley Bridge on Ullswater which is 1.45 hr drive from the cottage with current road closures that last until 2024. There are some great places to visit within an hour's drive of the cottage on Windermere and Coniston.
We really enjoyed our stay at bluebell cottage. Thought the internal layout was excellent and spacious. Loved being able to have the choice of bath tub or shower both ensuite. Also views from both bedrooms great in different ways! Also must not forget to mention how lovely it was to have your own private hot tub. Cottage placed in a great area to use as a base for exploring the lakes, especially Windermere and Coniston and surrounding area and villages. So many thanks from us Steve & Edwina for making this week so enjoyable..
Excellent facilities we really enjoyed our stay and would love to be back one day. Couple of minor issuesqueries that were addressed straight away, will definitely recommend to others.
Unfortunately we had to leave a day early as we had no heating or hot water. With the temperature dropping we had no choice but to leave. We did try to contact Sykes numerous times but to no avail. Overall a beautiful cottage in a stunning location but the lack of heating an hot water at the end of January is not something I would like to repeat.
We really enjoyed our stay at Bluebell Cottage, all the amenities we could want and the cottage was extremely comfortable. It is in an extremely good position o the coast road which is quiet but easy to locate. Thanks
Hot tubs need a trellis cover in freezing conditions, water temp wouldn't stay at 38 degrees
Thankyou for providing the space quietness comfort of all the luxuries of a home the hottub was splendid high quality and sheer luxury the views were amazing and omg that bed I wanted to take it home there were some little hiccups but nothing that would spoil the holiday the couch is still broken probably due to people standing on it to open the window but still perfectly comfortable I'd move it more out so the window can be reached. Would be nice if some little luxuries like shower gel and shampoo were provided and thankyou for providing bottles of drinking water. Seen some amazing sun sets and sun rises. An holiday that shows England at her best the hit tub is amazing in winter clear skies never have I seen the stars and moon so bright and clear amazing part of England.
Lovely weekend catching up with old friends, the cottage was perfect for a nice relaxing weekend. The sofas are comfy but do seem in need for a replacement, up on arrival the heating was off and took all evening & night to heat up, but once it was hot it stayed lovely and warm throughout our stay. The TV in the lounge is quite slow, but it did not impact our stay. The beds were so comfy, and the en suite bathrooms were nice and clean. The hot tub was such a treat and we would recommend property for a nice relaxing weekend.
Had a lovely few days in blue bell cottage, very well equipped from a cooking perspective, beds super comfy and a real luxury having a bath in each bedroom. Log fire was lovely with an adequate amount of kindling and fire lighters. Didnt experience any issues with the dishwasher or tv. Hot tub was amazing, stars are spectacular too although it would of been great to turn the out side lights off. My only one complaint is that a shower mat I really required, we had to use one of the spare towels from the bedroom we didnt use Overall a lovely cottage we would certainly stay again
With taking two teenagers with us maybe update the tvs they were dared to ... With taking two teenagers with us maybe update the tvs they were dared to smart tvs they wanted to watch tv but were restricted to just normal channels when the weather was bad and couldnt go out much
Rebecca
We had a really disappointing experience at Bluebell Cottage. The listing and price point imply you will be getting a higher end cottage but unfortunately the reality does not match up with expectations. After reading some of the previous reviews it is clear the owners do not listen to feedback or address issues highlighted by previous guests. The settee is still broken, there still isnt an adequate starter pack for the fire just a few logs and a bit of kindling no matches or firelighters, the heating is sporadic, the cottage was dirty rubbish left in wardrobes, dust thick enough to write in and the cottage smelt, the oven door still comes off and their are still cameras pointing at the hot tub. To add a new onethe dishwasher only works intermittently and is very difficult to get on when it does. All in all a very disappointing stay. We would not return.
The hot water issue was addressed, so will not dwell on that. The accommodation was of a very good standard. A towel railstand would have been helpful as would basic condiments in the kitchen. Otherwise very happy with the standard of the cottage.
Amanda
Lovley cottage , shower was amazing. All in all spotless. Cleaners did a fantastic job. Bed very comfortable. Slept very well. The only downside was the sofa still needs replacing. Interesting to see the photos by the fridge of what it used to look like.
We absolutely loved our time at the Bluebell cottage. We arrived on the Monday and had a chilled day after a long drive. A few drinks after dinner we were in our very comfy beds passed out. The private hot tub helped massively our time here after long days out and about, the facilities were great for our needs and clean too. The cottage has amazing views and weren't too far away from what we had planned to do the Tuesday and Wednesday, I highly recommend the safari and the steam train to Windemere. The cottage has great location as a base and I got bonus points with the inlaws by choosing here and volunteering to drive on the Wednesday. We got the weather eventhough it was September. The bath was amazing too The cottage itself had only 2 flaws, one of the sofas sounded like the wood was needing repaired and the floor needed a brush when we arrived. The other issues aren't their fault but I'll mention as a prewarning. The beach isn't soft sand so take wellies, the week we went the manure was being sprayed so one night we couldn't use the hot tub because there wasn't any wind blowing away the smell and kettle takes ages to heat up water for tea I honestly hope to come back here in the near future, especially in the summer and for longer as there's so much to do also it's a great get away if you need away from a hectic lifestyle. We feel so recharged after it all
Christine
We had a wonderful time and very pleased with the accommodation. On arrival the blind in the blue room was broken. A bath mat included in linen. A corkscrew would have been useful. We bought a coffee plunger which we have left for others to use. Minor things which certainly did not deter the pleasure in our stay
Kerrie
Absolutely fantastic property. We stay in the highlands, my sister and her fella stay in London, so it was a great meeting point. Exactly as the property is described. I was a little concerned after reading a few bits of feedback, however on arrival to the property couldnt believe what a little gem it was and such a reasonable price for all we had. Had an amazing seven day stay, cooked twice in the property a full English breakfast and a evening meal no issues. Ventured out practically every day. went boulder hopping to the local pub twice The farmers baycliff which is fantastic find, great staff and fantastic food. The road outside isnt particularly busy but it is a very fast road so anybody with children I would recommend supervising when leaving the property. Straight across from the property are walks, beautiful scenery and loads of outdoor space. Found the property really clean. Sofa bed under the window moves when you first sit on it however very comfortable and as long as you dont spend your entire stay on it, not an issue. Shower in the bedroom overlooking the front of the property the grout around the plug is starting to give way. never had an issue with flooding as we put the foot towel in front of the shower to stop it splashing out. Due to extremely high winds the boiler went off our second night so the following day there was minimal hot water however the response on a Sunday from the owners was fantastic and because we wash regularly to go without a shower for four hours wasnt the end of the world. Hot tub is a great addition, as previously stated by another visitor somewhere to hang towels outside would be a bonus, we took the drying rack out and just placed our towels on that. We had a young couple stay next door, the only time we heard them was when our bedroom window was open fully because of the hot weather and their bedroom window was wide open, no impact on our stay. Took a walk down to the moat farm, who do takeaway food. we popped in for ice cream. The blind in the bedroom with the bath in front of the window is white and lets a lot of light in, so we used the base to the cot to prop up in front of the window to help black it out, again not a major issue. Would definitely recommend, will definitely be back, Really enjoyable week, fantastic property.
Ramassa
As I'm allegic to dust, noticed as soon as I entered I started sneezing. Surfaces had alot of dust on them. There were ants in the kitchen and the 2 seater sofa felt as if it was about to break every time you sat down. One of the bathroom showers the one overlooking the front of the property didn't drain very well so when showering you ended up with overspill into the rest of the bathroom. The other bathroom door was stiff and stuck slightly when closing. Not a major issue but the noise it made did made you cringe slightly. Enjoyed our stay but due to the location on the road, not able to walk anywhere and a car would be needed to venture out.
Veronica
Only problem we have is second day of our arrival very early Saturday morning the road outside our property was getting resurfaced which left our white car full of tar and other stains, which we couldnt get off ,our windshield 2 days laters were still struggling to clean the car .
Nicola
Lovely little cottage, and the views were amazing! The kids loved the hottub!! The beds were comfy, would definitely recommend.
George
Well will be booking tne same cottage for next year break so it must be ok
Claire
We had a wonderful weekend away here, it has a really cosy feel to it but equally luxurious, the bedrooms especially are just beautiful I dont think the pictures do this place justice. The view & surrounding area is breathtaking we had some lovely scenic walks. Will be booking again for sure. The only thing I think could improve future visits would be the addition of sky tv more so if I was to return with my children.

South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 4 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 10 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 15 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU

Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.

Head for the Bowland Wild Boar park and we don't think you will be disappointed.  A popular attraction in Preston there is so much to do for the whole family.  From picnics, walks and wildlife to experiencing feeding the animals you are sure to have a memorable day out.  Also popular is the kids tractor play area.  For rest and relaxation the cafe is ideal serving hot drinks and snacks with a lovely view over the pond and wildlife feeding station.  The Forest of Bowland has been declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 29 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
