The Hay Barn Reviews

Fabulous place, loving sociable living area, garden and hot tub
The Hay Barn is simply beautiful, the whole place is relaxing and peaceful. The garden space is perfect and Jill provided some entertainment for the children, with ride on tractors and tennis rackets etc. which was a wonderful touch. Jill checked the hot tub was safe to use every day and was always friendly and welcoming. We loved the location. Waking up to see the rabbits bouncing around the fields and the calfs with their mothers was really lovely. The Hare & Hounds pub is walking distance and the food is delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend. Thank you Jill! We hope to see you again next year!
Patrick
Jill was a brilliant and helpful host. Very communicative and had really thought about the little things to make sure the property was well equipped to our needs
Wow! what can we say the Hay Barn is absolutely wonderful! We stayed here as 3 families with small children, everything was perfect from the peaceful location to the enclosed garden and Hot tub. we cannot fault at all and will definitely be returning. Thanks to Jill for being on hand for anything we may need or any questions we had during our stay.
We had 3 families staying together over the bank holiday and The Hay Barn was absolutely perfect. Like other reviews the home is even nicer in person than the pictures with plenty of space outside and inside for everyone. Everything was clearly explained on how to use, we had a bbq, roast and had everything we needed all weekend. The hot tub was a fab addition to our weekend. Lots of lovely local places and walks to check out & Jill was easily contactable and so helpful throughout our stay. Thank you Jill!
Kathryn
Fantastic property and wonderful hosts would absolutely love to stay again!
Sharon
First class accommodation. Worked really well for family gathering. Clean, comfortable, welcoming and very well equipped. Jacuzzi made a great gathering point even when it was cold!! Thanks for a great weekend!
Fantastic property, everything we needed and very clean. Plenty of space for 9 of us. Both the inside and outside were impressive. We all enjoyed the hot tub and there was plenty of outside furniture for us to eat in the garden, the first time this year! Jill was very helpful and there were some welcome treats for us. Would 100 recommend staying here.
Perfect house for us and Jill the owner was lovely.
Rebecca
Jill and John made our holiday so comfortable. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and more there were floods and the made the stay fun and possible!. We will definitely go back. The property was immaculate and so well equipped. The decor was tasteful and not over cluttered. We slept, ate, played and rested well.
Gorgeous house, lots of space, fab hottub. Has everything needed. Owner friendly and there if any concerns

We had a lovey stay at The Hay Barn in Fishlake. The 4 bedroom barn was perfect for the six of us who were looking for a spacious modern property for a weekend of relaxing away in the countryside. The Hay Barn is a very modern property and the owners have really thought about balancing modern facilities whilst still retaining the original charm of the barn. The kitchen is equipped with AEG appliances, the bathrooms have excellent showers with good water flow and the large smart TV is great for watching a movie at the end of the day. The garden is a great place for a BBQ, breakfast or any kind of dining and with the added canopy, you have some shelter from the elements. One of the property highlights is a huge, modern hot tub which was prepared for us by the owner and checked during our stay. A great addition and something which separates this property from ones we have stayed at in the past. Overall, a great property for larger families or large groups wanting to spend time relaxing in a modern facility within the countryside. Thank you Gill and Jack for your hospitality!
Nicholas
Brilliant property and lovely people! Probably even nicer in person than the pictures. House was really spacious and very clean. Plenty of space in the garden and lovely space to sit around and BBQ as well as the hot tub of course. Nice little village with a pub and a caf, would highly highly recommend staying at the Hay Barn.
It was a beautiful house, we had lovely weather and got to enjoy the garden which had fabulous facilities. The hot tub was lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Jill the host was so kind and looked after us very well. Thank you so much. Our two young boys and dog loved it and wanted to stay!
Absolutely amazing stay. Couldn't fault the cottage at all. We will return without hesitation
Superb accommodation and very comfortable throughout. We had a great family reunion and a relaxing stay. Lots of animals locally for the kids to enjoy and they loved the freedom to cycle safely in the lane. The courtyard garden is lovely and the hot tub was very well used The owner ,Jill was very helpful. We'd all like to return some day.
We had an absolutely fantastic stay! The property is beautiful, the pictures really don't do it justice. We will definitely be booking to return to The Hay Barn.
Sheena
The Hay Barn is a beautiful property in a lovely rural setting & was the perfect place for 3 generations of our family to spend time together. The interior is stunning, very spacious with great features such as exposed brickwork, beams in the bedrooms & deep window sills ideal window seats to gaze out at the surrounding countryside views. The finish is superb and quality of furnishings, fittings, linens outstanding. Above all it feels homely and welcoming. Everything has been provided that guests could possibly need, along with some unexpected little treats on arrival a lovely touch from our host. Photographs dont really do it justice we loved the look from the pictures but in the flesh so to speak The Hay Barn is so much more impressive. The outside space is delightful & compliments the property. A large courtyard style area with a beautiful raised flower bed, lawn, a range of seating areas and even some ride on toys for the youngest guests. Though previously a hot tub could be could be hired in via the owner, the addition of a large permanent hot tub is a huge bonus and really added a touch of luxury to our stay. Fishlake is a rural village but there are plenty of places to visit it & things to do within a short distance. Lots of lovely walks, a luxury day spa on the doorstep, farmwildlife parks as well as places to go out to eat. Jill the owner was a perfect host very friendly, helpful & responsive. She contacted me personally ahead of our stay and was very quick replying to any questions. We also really appreciated her suggestions for places to visit with our granddaughter. We had the pleasure of meeting Jill with her friend on arrival they were most welcoming just what we needed after a drive in awful weather! Thank you again Jill for a wonderful birthday break with our family & being such a great host. We all loved our time at The Hay Barn & wouldnt hesitate to recommend it.
Francoise
Very comfortable stay, beautifully decorated and very well equipped. Lovely location. Some lovely little local walks directly from the barn. Our host Jill was extremely helpful and the enclosed area outside was perfect with the dog. Nice village cafe and the Old George Inn just down the road was great for a a family pub meal and dog friendly too.
Property is excellent. Surrounding area is a bit limiting.
The Hay Barn is in a fabulous location the place itself is very comfortable, high spec furniture and fittings, extremely comfortable . We enjoyed family time together , Jill the owner ensured everything was ready for us when we arrived . Well worth the cost highly recommended , however as other comments I would not recommend Sykes cottages.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Hay Barn! The cottage was beautiful and extremely comfortable and Jill was an excellent host going out of her way to assist us. Would recommend 100
Hayley
We stayed for 5 nights5 generations of my familyranging from ages 15 months to 88 years old! Would highly recommend the Hay barn as a place to stay but not Sykes as a company. Listing was incorrect . But the Hay Barn was lovely. Lovely peaceful spot in the the countryside. Everything we needed was in the house. Even some childs toys in the garden. Would return again to the Hay barn once the hot tub is up and running. Jill was super helpful when we needed assistance. Many thanks Jill you have a great property
Keeley
Had a lovely weekend with all my family, the house is beautiful would definitely recommend
The Hay Barn has been a pleasure! Its situated in a beautiful location with wonderful views. The Barn itself gave us all a warm & cosy feeling, it made us feel right at home. There is nothing I could say in fault because it was the most perfect relaxing holiday we could have wished for . The pictures do not do this lovely barn any justice! 110 would recommend staying here & we will definitely be booking again In the future. 1010. Thank you for making my 30th birthday one to remember . Friendly, helpful and caring Owners.
The Hay Barn was lovely, we had a great weekend. Instructions to find it were good and there was plenty of parking. The garden was great for the two little dogs that came with us. All rooms were lovely, really nicely decorated and plenty of space for everyone. Its was lovely and warm, the beds were very comfy and the kitchen well equipped. Cant fault our stay, would love to come back. Thankyou
Leanne
A beautiful property in a very pleasant location, rooms were lovely and comfortable and finished to a very high standard. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it.
We had a fabulous time, the accommodation is second to none. Met with owner via horse riding for the children and they couldnt have been nicer folks. Kitchen has everything you need ,bedrooms are spacious enough for a permanent trundle bed to add to folks available to sleep. My single only improvement would be a shower in the lower bedroom its then possible to advertise for a disabled people. Yes we would definitely visit again. It was a 45 min drive away so perfect. Beautiful countryside around and a pub within walking distance ,what more can you ask for.
We have just spent 6 days at this lovely property. It was perfect for our needs. We had 3 generations staying together for a family celebration. The barn was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. There are many places to visit in every direction. My small grand daughters loved the Christmas decorations and pony riding. Due to the weather we didnt use the outdoor area but it was really lovely. The addition of a new bed super king twin bed in downstairs room was perfect for our families needs. The host was very helpful and friendly. The surrounding land was all open and the stars and sunrises were spectacular. I would highly recommend this property.
We had an amazing stay and couldn't ask for more from the property and the owners. It was beautifully set up for us, very clean and spacious. The property is much bigger and more beautiful than the photos show and the hot tub is a worthy addition! There were 10 of us during the stay and we felt we had plenty of space for everyone. A great weekend and we'd love to stay again! Thank you
Bridgette
We have stayed at many cottages but this was by far the best. Rarely if ever have we got to the end of our stay wishing we could stay longer. It had everything we needed. Happily I can't find anything negative.
Amazing house! Better in real life as the pics are not up to date and the outdoor area has been landscaped! Had an amazing weekend, beautiful house and surroundings! Only slight criticism was the advertising implied hot tub included when it was actually on top via a private hire company all worked fine though list should be more transparent on the information!
Spent time with friends, Lovely and warm accommodation in a wonderful setting. Very welcoming host, would have liked a bit longer for check out. Could do with a detailed book to work microwave being not technically minded. Great for just a couple of nights away. We have booked again.
Philip
Great holiday accommodation for our family meet together, as we are spread out across the country. Spacious yet having the capability to provide an enclosed courtyard to enable our grandson and dogs to roamplay safely.
Elaine
We had a fantastic stay at the Hay Barn. It was my sons 30th birthday. The cottage is in a perfect location and has everything you could possibly need. Jill the owner is kind and helpful and Stephen from Doncaster Hot Tubs was helpful and efficient in providing the lovely hot tub. We would recommend to anyone to go to the Haybarn and would love to go again.
What a beautiful place to stay. So characteristic Very peaceful , surrounded by fields but also enough of local areas to visit if thats what you want to do Met the owners and family whom were nice and friendly We were a mixed age group and we all enjoyed it and said we would definitely rebook
Christopher
An excellent stay. A fantastic holiday home in a beautiful location made perfect by the host, Jill. Ill definitely be looking to book here again.
The Hay Barn provided is spacious, both inside and out, well equipped, and was an ideal retreat for us and our family. Jill was a great host, ensuring everything was ok with the property and providing local ideas and support for us. We would definitely stay at the Hay Barn again.
The house was in the most idilic setting surrounded by fields with lovely local walks. We saw foxes during the days and enjoyed watching the cattle and horses graze from pur windows. The house felt like we could have been anywhere in Europe with its gorgeous courtyard and seating setting. The house was very well equipt and plenty of bathrooms to aid a large group of girls getting ready!!!
Whenever I arrive at a property these days I immediately think, Would I stay here again? I'm pleased if I can say yes straight away, and if nothing changes my mind throughout the week, I think I'm on a winner. This is one of those. It's clear that this hasn't been let for long, the place is very clean and the finish of the building shows a fine eye for detail. Very little has been spared to make it really nice. There were six of us staying at Hay Barn, with a baby and toddler. We had everything we needed, there was enough china and cutlery to be able to leave the dishwasher until it was full. Plenty of useful cooking pots too. The courtyard garden was nice and a great area to use, the little one was able to run around safely. There are nice walks around the property and chances to see some cows and wildlife. The bat which managed to get into a bedroom one evening was a treat! Anyone without a fishing landingnet in the car might have taken a different view, but I'm sure that it's a once in a lifetime occurrence both for us and the building. The owners were nearby and were very helpful if we needed anything else, thanks for the advice on where to go and the baby thermometer.
