About Swallows Rest Suffolk

The popular medieval village of Kersey (5.1 miles) and Lavenham (12 miles) are both well worth a visit and both have a choice of places to shop, eat and drink and keen golfers will enjoy a visit to Hintlesham Hall just 4.6 miles away.

There is an abundance of cycle routes close by, enjoy the meandering country roads and the picturesque villages. Upon entering you instantly notice the care and attention the owners have put into this renovation to make your stay feel as comfortable as possible and have even raised the roof to give a superb sense of space.

The open plan lounge/kitchen/dining area is the perfect spot to relax and unwind after a busy day out exploring so why not fire up the wood burner and read a book, or even catch up on your favourite show on the Smart TV. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with ice compartment, dishwasher and a washer/dryer.

When you are ready for bed, the spacious bedroom is towards the back of the property and has a comfortable king size bed and an en suite shower room with a shower and WC. There is access to the balcony from the bedroom or the front door and this provides a truly special place to sit on the furniture provided and take in your surroundings (please note the balcony has a zip wire to keep it enclosed so regret no children under 10).

A absolutely stunning cottage in a beautiful setting nature all around lovely walks with our dog which was a first for us and her as we have never taken a pet away before . Our hosts were great and very helpful and supplied a well equipped clean warm and beautiful place to stay

Swallows Rest is just beautiful. Set at the end of a long drive. It's such a quiet spot, overlooking the Irvin's beautifully laid out garden, with fields beyond. We had a packed week of visiting places, the Dad's Army Museum, Charles Burrell Museum , Suffolk Punch Trust, National Trust's Flatford, The Munnings Art Gallery and The Museum Of Food. We returned to the Swallows Rest for another lovely stay. The property is well equipped and in a wonderfully quiet location, overlooking Peter & Karen's beautiful gardens. We would recommend this property for anyone looking for a relaxing break in lovely countryside.

A really nice base from which we explored the area. The accommodation was perfect for us and our little dog with its very extensive grounds and lovely garden. Suffolk Owl Sanctuary - IP28 6HX
about 10 Miles
This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area.  The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region.  The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK.  Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
Colchester Zoo - CO3 0SL
about 15 Miles
Colchester Zoo is a fantastic place to visit with something for all the family.  Wander around and see the array of animals in excellent habitats.  Don't forget to visit the Leopards at Ussuri Falls, this new expansion can be located opposte the White Tiger Valley and the Medellin Momkeys.  Other popular areas of the zoo include Tiger Taiga, Chimp World and Wallaby Walkabout.   Look out for special events throughout the year such as Shriek Week on Halloween.  If you book tickets online you can obtain a discount of 10% and are also fast tracked on entry to the zoo - a great idea in the school holidays.

This attraction is currently under construction but we are looking forward to it opening in early 2011.  The philosophy of the Discovery Centre is 'healthy body, healthy mind, healthy planet and aims to change people's attitudes and actions towards our planet.  Educational as well as fun there are plenty of activities such as outdoor sport pitches, cycle and walking trails and indoor activity rooms.  This is a unique attraction for the whole family.
Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE

This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
National Horse Racing Museum - CB8 8JL

This is a museum with a difference and a must see if you are into horse racing.  You can take guided tours around the museum or choose to wander round yourself admiring the exhibits.  New for 2010 is a Junior Fun Tour which is ideal for children.  Simply ask the gallery staff for a Fun Tour pack when you enter the museum and kids can answer questions and spot clues and tips on the way round.  One of the most popular recent exhibitions is the Thoroughbred: State of the Art exhibition in Gallery 5 on until 31st October.  Check out their websites for the latest exhibitions.
