Carwinley Mill House Cottage Reviews

Olivia
A cosy cottage in an idyllic setting. Having private access to a decking that looked over the river was wonderful, and having a large hot tub and outdoor fire was also fabulous. The hosts were lovely, welcoming and couldn't do enough for us special shoutout to Jared. Will most definitely be coming back!
Absolute gem of a cottage with a staircase leading down to a burn which cuts deep into the old red sandstone & a secluded hot tub in the garden too . Our only feedback for improvement would be a new mattress & settee as there becoming a bit tired now . Also some binoculars would be a great feature for spotting wildlife down by the burn . Trevor was a great host , very welcoming & friendly. We think the fact that the lets are all fully booked up every weekend next year during the season speaks for itself, well definitely be back if we can find a weekend there free lol
Our stay at Carwinley Mill House Cottage was absolutely wonderful, and we were greeted with a very warm welcome by the owners, then shown around as soon as we arrived. The cottage had recently been refurbished and we were completely taken aback by how lovely it looked, by the work that had been done to it, and it's history. It was clean, roomy, and absolutely gorgeous! There was plenty of space for two, and outside, the cottage's position created a perfect sun trap at the top sitting area, which was great for relaxing, plus jacuzzi sessions were made even more enjoyable by the nature that was hiding in and around the trees, and the sound of the river. The second sitting area was a few steps below and opened up onto a lovely decked balcony, overhanging the river. It really couldn't get more tranquil. Longtown is perfect for travelling to Scotland, the Lakes, the border, or exploring further south, and my husband and I stayed at Carwinley Mill House Cottage for a week, which for us, wasn't enough, but we had to come home although we honestly didn't want to leave! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we will be booking to stay again. Danielle, Jed, Trevor and Danielle's mum were all so warm and friendly, it really topped off our stay. A huge thank you to you all! We'll be back.
Lovely peaceful surroundings, hot tub was good when it worked properly. WiFi was very poor and worked intermittently. Some maintenance required in the grounds as the trees and bushes are taken over with the banister not available for the full duration of the steep steps down to the decked area at waterside due to brambles and nettles over growing. I would recommend to the owner the installation of some netting at the doors with a magnetic closure in middle, this would allow the freedom of having the French doors open without the worry of allowing too many flies inside, as it is nice to allow the fresh air in. The couch in the livingroom lacks a little support so when you wish to relax inside in the evening it can be difficult without constantly moving cushions around to assist. Although there is room for improvement, this is a lovely place that is only a short drive from the motorway but far away enough away for peace and quiet.

Our stay at this cosy cottage was exactly what we needed, comfortable, relaxing and quiet. Our hosts Danielle and Trevor were wonderful, very friendly and informative of some places to visit nearby which we hadn't already considered. The property was bigger than we'd expected, which was great, and the large stone archway between living room and kitchen and the exposed wooden beams throughout is a treat to the eyes. Outside the large hot tub gave us many hours of luxurious relaxation both daytime and nighttime with only nature for company, and a few logs ablaze in the chimnea was a nice extra. We would definitely come back no matter what time of year...Many thanks for our stay..

The hot tub was not warm until the second day of arriving it should be made aware to people not to open the patio doors on a night time as was geeen flys everywhere bed covered could not get rid of them used vacuumed smelt of dog so badly stunk cottage out for days this is a no pets property? Had to sleep in living room all week
Nice secluded location. Lovely large hot tub. Lots of upgrade work due to creation of wedding venue so occasional noise. No information regarding area in cottage, would have been good to have at least local info. Mattress on bed needs replacing very saggy, not comfortable. When we left we tried to hand in keys and there was literally nobody there. Had to leave key in the door. I called the mobile number provided and left a voicemail to say we were going and to apologise as I had broken a plate, didnt get any response.
Great cottage in an excellent location. Hot tub was fantastic, the cottage was very clean and well maintained. The only minor faults we did find was the blinds in the bedroom could not be wound back up once you pulled them down also the same issue with one in the living room and the sofa would be better if it was a 3 seater and not a 2. Overall we had a fantastic experience and we would definitely recommend it.
Christine
Lovely cottage in a lovely setting that had everything we needed for a week's stay. The hot tub was great for unwinding after a day exploring the area. Quiet, peaceful, comfycosy just what we wanted, thank you!
My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday and it was absolutely perfect. The host was warm and welcoming. The cottage was beautiful, clean and had everything you might need. The hottub was wonderful and surrounded by stunning woodland. It was a brilliant base for visiting the surrounding areas and the bottle of prosecco was a lovely touch that added to the celebrations. Perfect romantic getaway. We'd absolutely love to come back. Thank you.
Just back from a perfect little 2 day break at this lovely cottage which had everything we hoped for a relaxing trip away with my partner. The owners were fantastic, friendly and it was a nice little touch with the bottle of prosecco upon arrival.
Kimberley
Would highly recommend perfect for romantic weekend away
Great location and cannot fault the facilities within the cottage. The hot tub was amazing. The only downside was the lack of notice regarding the ongoing building works, Being woken at 7am was not good and several mornings the noise started at 8am. A little warning would have been good from the host. It didn't spoil our week away but took the gloss off it.
Such a lovely stay and brilliant hosts. Would highly recommend.
Friendly owners, great location and lovely property. Will definitely be booking again in future.

My partner and I stayed at Carwinley Mill House Cottage for Valentines Day and it was the most romantic getaway we couldve ever wished for. Danielle and Trevor are great hosts, super friendly and have great knowledge of the local area which was helpful. The cottage itself is well equipped, and has no flaws. A super comfy bed, great open kitchen diner space with open plan living area. Outside there is a private hot tub with a lovely view of the river. If you are considering booking Carwinley Mill House Cottage but are unsure, do it! You will not regret it.
Lovely cottage, comfy bed, nice little touches left by the owners, bottle of wine, teacoffeehot chocolate sachets, marshmallows. Dressing gowns and extra towels to use when we got out of the hot tub. Would recommend

Just recently visited Carwinley Mill House Cottage for 5 nights and had an absolutely amazing stay! Couldnt fault anything, cottage was spotless, hot tub was relaxing and Danielle and Trevor are amazing, very accommodating! Will definitely be returning, thank you for a lovely stay!!
Fabulous as always. This was our 4th visit and well be back for a 5th! We love the setting and the facilities. We lock ourselves in and dont come out for the duration of our stay. Our only comment would be that there seemed to be a huge amount of chlorine in the hot tub this time. Our skin has been in a bit of a bad way since but we know that this isnt the norm and was likely just a oneoff.
Wow, couldn't say enough good things about our stay. Beautiful cosy cottage with a lovely hot tub that was ideal in the evenings for enjoying the starry night sky over a gin & tonic or other alcoholic beverage. Lovely kitchen and settee. Once you closed the front door in the afternoon evening you were nicely cocooned inside. We will be returning.

My husband and I decided to book a mini break and chose to stay at Carwinley Mill House cottage When we arrived we were greeted by the owner Trevor who gave us a quick tour and provided us with some useful information. To say we were In awe of the property is an understatement. It was cosy with a warm homely feel. The views from the rear are spectacular of the river. The hot tub was lovely underneath a clear sky with the stars above. We will certainly be returning in the future for a return visit
Chelsea
A beautiful cottage, it was so much bigger then we expected! Very clean and comfy. Had the best stay it was so relaxing we spent every single night in the hot tub we loved it that much! Somewhere we would love to go back to for sure!
Cottage in a excellent location, quiet and private. Well equipped and cosy. The addition of the platform above the river only adds to the experience.
Myself and my partner spent a week at the property. We had a wonderful experience, The property was in a stunning location and it was was beyond stunning, The owners at the property Were Lovely they were extremely attentive if you had any issues, nothing was any trouble to them they would do anything they could to make your stay a wonderful one. Would Absolutely recommend this property and the other properties they also have also look very nice. We liked it that much we even rebooked for next December. Many thanks for our wonderful stay.
Stuart
Very nice relaxing break with great hosts
The holiday cottage is in a beautiful location and the views are fabulous and the host's are very friendly and helpful.
My partner and I both had an amazing stay at the cottage. Beautiful location, peaceful and super relaxing! Trevor and Danielle were incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home. Would 100 go back again!
Andrew
Lovely, private cottage in a picturesque setting, close by stream with new sitting out area just a few steps away. Lots of internal space and large private garden with huge hot tub, which is a great place to relax after a day out and about. Very quiet and peaceful, but only a short drive to lovely pubs and local shops. Friendly owners with 2 friendly dogs. Highly recommended.
The setting is lovely and the hot tub is so relaxing
Michael
Very relaxing stay in a peaceful setting. The owners were very welcoming and very informative regarding the surrounding area and gave good advice to ensure we made most of our visit.
Had a lovely week here weather was amazing, cottage was lovely a few things could of made it better but nothing that ruined our holiday, hot tub was huge and very hot once warmed up but couldnt use it the first day as it didnt reach the right temperature until early Saturday morning so if your coming just for the weekend I would of been disappointed that we missed a whole afternoon and evening of the hot tub but its great that the hosts change it between every new booking due to COVID so it was worrh waiting for for that reason, Danielle the owner was very nice thank you for the Prosecco by the way but never got to say thank you and goodbye when we left, I did message her to say thank you but never got a reply! All in all was a great place loved sitting out on the Deck over the river with a glass of wine and the fire pit was lovely of an evening, bed was very comfortable we hope to return one day. All the other properties there looked great as well
We came here for our honeymoon and it was amazing. Danielle and Trevor are wonderful! The views and surrounding areas are beautiful. Such a lovely place & we will definitely be back! Thank you so much!!
Booked the cottage as a mini break for my husband's 60th birthday and after the last 12 months it was just what the doctor ordered. My husband said he couldn't remember the last time he was so relaxed. The cottage itself is beautiful and the hot tub, seating area and surprise deck were wonderful. The owner was extremely friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend and will also more than likely rebook.
The quiet setting and all was well catered for and nothing was any problem if we needed anything
Had a lovely relaxing week at Carwinley Retreat. Danielle and Trevor were so welcoming and always on hand if we required anything. The cottage was fully equipped and had amazing views over the stream. We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub after a day walking in the Lakes or North of the border in Scotland. Thoroughly enjoyed our week, thank you
Sharon
Cottage was immaculate, comfortable and had everything we needed. Location was very private considering there were 4 other modes of accommodation. Grounds were well maintained with our cottage enjoying a viewing platform overlooking a river. Hot tub was an absolute dream, again felt very private. Really enjoyed being able to unwind, relax, enjoy a bottle of wine, left by host, and get away from the madness.
Jonathan
We were in the area earlier than the 4pm check in and we called Danielle to see if we could arrive a little bit early, She checked with the cleaner and then called us back to say it was ready early for us, which was a nice start to our break. When we arrived we were greeted by Danielle and her two lovely dogs and she told us about the hot tub, walks in the area and places to eat nearby, all extremely helpful. The cottage was spotless! You could see it had been deep cleaned ready for us, we found a lovely bottle of prosecco and some home made rocky road brownies waiting for us in the kitchen which was a nice touch by the owners. The cottage was warm, cosy and right next to the river Esk. The hot tub was huge and great to relax in on a night with a glass of bubbles ! We had a newly built viewing area down some steps over looking the river, this would be lovely on a warm morningevening to sit and watch the wild life. Bed was very comfortable and plenty of wardrobe space, could have done with more hangers in the wardrobe and one of the roller blinds was broken, no pully to openshut the blind. Bathroom was light and airy and has a very good shower, plenty of towels even though we took our own too, the shower glass door is very loose and can open so water can go on the floor, this needs attention. Kitchen was a great size and had plenty of cupboards but few glasses, only 1 wine glass and no prosecco glasses. It has two plastic glasses for out side but not great to drink out of while chilling in the living room, and needs a blind at the front door window. Outside area was relaxing and plenty of wood and matches for the chimenea, it does have a small two seater wicker sofa but the cushions had been left out so they were wet and mouldy, not sure why these weren't brought into the cottage ? so we couldn't use that seating area. We are been a little picky with these issues but they are so small and could be easily remedied to make the cottage even better than it is, we will definitely be going back, such a relaxing spot away from everything, just what's needed if you want a chilled out break!
Stephen
From start to finish we were kept informed of developments during the COVID restrictions and we were offered new dates as soon as they were available. The holiday itself? The best, most relaxing week ever and the prosecco and brownies left for us on arrival was a lovely surprise. The hosts, Danielle and Trevor are amazing. We had planned to get married whilst there and our wonderful hosts went above and beyond the call of duty to make our wedding day extra special. Thank you so much, we will never forget your kindness. The cottage itself is beautiful, and felt amazingly clean and comfortable. Everything you could need for a romantic break for two. Sitting in the hot tub listening to the birds singing in the mornings, the chimnea and viewing platform above the beck made this holiday perfect. We have already booked to go back next year!
Robert
We enjoyed our stay, the cottage was excellent, the owners were also excellent, friendly and informative, their local knowledge was invaluable. We would not have known about the village of Powfoot a small coastal village near Annan. or the river walk to the church and swing footbridge had they not advised us. the only shortcoming was that the roads did not have footpaths which made walking difficult. However, very enjoyable.

This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre - NE48 1BT

Housing the most fascinating collection of Birds of Prey in the North East this centre is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kielder Water area. Located in Falstone it's easy to get to and makes a great day out for both families and couples.  As well as seeing the amazing birds you can learn all about the captive breeding programme and the excellent work being done there.  Some of the highlights of the day might include watching a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph and admiring the grace of the Eagles, Kites and Hawks.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD

We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
