Herdwick Croft Reviews

Andy
Perfect location for our first visit to lakes. The property could do with updating BUT it is well equipped for families and was clean. We loved our visit to the spa, the games room was a big hit with the kids and the utility room a bonus. The contact/host shared some great tips for local things to do and where to eat. We loved our week in this beauRead moretiful part of the country. Hide

We have really enjoyed our break. The house is a very sociable family home. None of us wanted to leave and we are planning on returning.

Very spacious house but poorly maintained and needs a proper clean. Arrived to broken windows, bedroom with broken curtain rail, so no curtains, wet laundry in dryer. Games room had pool table with large rip which had clearly been there for some time, a dart board with 2 darts (lots of bits of broken ones). The house is in a lovely position, very sRead morepacious and bedrooms comfortable as are living areas. This could be a very good holiday let if they sorted out their maintenance. Hide

Stunning location - brilliant if you like water sports. Games room is a definite plus if you have children. Cleanliness could be better - we live in a Victorian house so know how difficult it is to keep spider/web free. Some 'TLC' on the property would not go amiss. If we were to recommend the property, we would be pointing out 'our niggles'. HavinRead moreg said that, we would return if we were in the area again. Hide

The house was warm and comfortable once we put the heating on but is in need of a deep clean. The kitchen is well equipped and has been updated. The pool table cloth has been torn but this didn't really affect our enjoyment, although it would have been good to have a full set of balls, (the black ball was missing). If you wish to use the dartboard,Read more take your own darts as all the darts were broken. We had no issues with the showers although we did stagger showers. Hide

The kitchen , dining, and lounge area were great. Plenty of lovely walks around. Heating kept us warm. The house could benefit from some deeper cleaning the water pressure and showers were not adequate for a group of 8+ . The bistro next door Herwick Willy's was lovely, great basic menu of pizza and jacket potatoes with lovely breakfasts . Best barRead more/ restaurant we have seen on a caravan site. Hide

Amazing location, short walk to lake which is ideal for paddle boarding and wild swimming. Whinlatter Park for mountain biking close by and Keswick lovely town with lots to do. House very comfortable and great space for the cost. I enjoyed lack of WiFi and 4G, kids were less unsure!
Dennis

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 0 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 15 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 18 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 19 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 28 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
