Scotland
Capercaillie Cottage truly is something special; this detached home and its bothy are a quintessential Scottish Highland experience, with views over the owners’ 300-acre farmland, towards the distant Sutherland hills and lochans. Pet-friendly, family-friendly and offering an enclosed, one-acre garden with a feature pond and undercover decking with a hot tub makes the perfect holiday location for couples, friends and families wanting to escape the everyday.
The property is over 200 years old and is set amongst a working sheep and beef cattle farm, accessed via a track and with off-road parking. Lovingly renovated to keep the best of its original charm including exposed stone, 2-ft-thick walls, and a traditional tin roof, while boasting plenty of contemporary home comforts, such as a dishwasher and deep sofas to sink into after a day of exploring.
The open-plan living space features a large woodburning stove and a Freeview TV, ample dining seating for your home-cooked favourites, and a fully-equipped kitchen with handmade units. Up a steep ladder is a mezzanine sitting area, making fantastic use of the space yet keeping with the character of the home.
From here, the first bedroom is accessed by a small doorway, or externally, and hosts a double bed, a TV for lazier mornings, a basin and WC in the en-suite. The real stars here are the attention to detail, with glass-bottle feature lighting and a freestanding, roll-top, claw-foot bath in the room itself to sink into after a busy day.
The second bedroom is located in the bothy, with a gorgeous four-poster bed and gas, woodburning-effect fire; this charming space even has its own little porch and tea and coffee facilities, making the ideal spot for a morning cuppa while admiring the uninterrupted views down the glen to the hills beyond. The second bedroom is served by a shower room, which sits separately from the main building, and finally, there is also an external utility for any clothes and towels that need refreshing after a day of walking.
