Rowan House Reviews

Rowan House is a fantastic holiday house for large parties or families. The house is very spacious and well equipped. The garden is amazing with a vast lawn providing ample space for kids to play. There are also two ponds with resident ducks and woodland with red squirrels and an array of bird life. The hot tub is wood fired so needs a bit of management and attendance.
The Owners are the best. Very welcoming and helpful. The house is absolutely spotless and in an unbeatable location. Squirrels and ducks abound.

Our fantastic stay at Rowen House was only sullied by the fact we had to leave. There was everything under one roof and more. The garden is fantastic that our 2 dogs loved being able the run about. It took us a while to find our way round as there was so many rooms it was easy to get lost, but beautiful. The owner is so friendly and is in contact with you regularly to make sure there is nothing wrong or even if you need some advice. The location is a little out of the way of a town or village, but they doesn't change my opinion of it. Fantastic if you like to sit and read, watch the wildlife, Mr squirrel made an appearance more than once, and walks a plenty. Or if you like to travel about it perfect for those adventures to. Hope to return in the future.
A great place for a wonderful holiday
We had a fantastic week at Rowan House. As soon as you turn in the gate its a WOW factor. Lovely house and immaculate gardens. Inside the house was the same. Open the door and again, wow. There were 7 of us staying, and everything we needed to be comfortable was provided and also spotless. There is a hot tub that is heated by a wood burner, and there was more than enough wood to last a few weeks let alone one. Wild life was in abundance. We saw both sea and golden eagles, deer, pine martens, squirrels, badgers and of course the resident ducks. Our hosts were super friendly, and very quick with correspondence. Rowan House was a real find, a jewel. If you like peace and quiet, but towns within half an hour. Then this is the place to be. Loved our week loved the hosts , breaks dont get any better We will be back
Wonderful house, extremely spacious & every room very comfortable and offering something different in character. The grounds and wildlife also an immense joy & along with the terrific location which still gives opportunity to explore this area of Northern Scotland, East or West coast made for simply a fabulous and relaxing holiday. Last but not least the owners were incredibly helpful & information on arrival to property to everything surrounding. Definitely will return ! Thank you so much !
Well what can I say . ....absolutely fabulous house ,a wildlife watchers paradise !! The hosts are great ,very helpful ,full of knowledge. I really can't put into words our stay just FABULOUS. Thankyou ....we are coming back !!
We all loved the spaciousness of the house and it had everything we needed for a wonderful family holiday, thank you.
This property was perfect for what we needed. Quiet countryside location with everything you need in the house. Rupert was extremely helpful and very courteous. Together with the beautiful house, the location and a very helpful and kind host it made it a Christmas break we will remember forever.

Rowan House is an extremely well appointed property in an idyllic location within striking distance of many of Northern Scotland's prime attractions. The house has extensive gardens and duck filled ponds... so it was actually very tempting to stay put and not bother with excursions! We particularly loved feeding the resident red squirrels... Rupert, the owner, made us feel very welcome and gave us lots of pointers to explore the locale. I wish we could have made it a longer stay and we would most certainly return in the future. Our booking was very 'last minute' and we certainly struck it lucky!
Absolutely brilliant holiday. My family and I had a fantastic time at Rowan House. Once a year my husband and I love to book somewhere where our family if they choose can join us, which here they did! Entering the entrance hall was a wow and every room in the house spotless! Plenty of rooms to choose from if needing some quiet time, although we tended to sit in the kitchen dining area and the large sitting room, there was plenty of bathrooms and loos to accommodate our family and plenty of fridges too. Communication with Rupert owner and his wife was always pleasant. Meeting them both was also a pleasure. Its very easy to get your 10000 steps in per day staying here without stepping foot off the grounds. The garden was beautiful too. Its lovely to see red squirrels running around the feeders and a good variety of birds including a red kite made an appearance. The hot tub was a lovely addition, easy to use and enjoyable. The house is situated for easy access to the NC 500 and lots of other places such as the Falls of Shinn Salmon Leap, Dunrobin Castle and Dornoch where we saw 2 Dolphins swimming from the beach The beach at Embo was beautiful too. We are looking forward to returning next year.
Quite magnificent property with a superb blend of modern & traditional modern enough to be sure everything works efficiently & is cosy, with traditional furnishings which have that really nice preloved feel to enable us to enjoy without fear of spoiling any pristine newness. Comes complete with everything you need to ensure a lovely stay books, games, firewood & even doggie poo bags!

We had a wonderful relaxing time. The surrounding countryside was very scenic.

Stayed at Rowan house last week with family ranging in age from 1year old to 60 years . House is so comfortable and so well catered for. Great for a relaxing get away. Lots of walks from door step. Rupert very welcoming and helpful.
Everything fantastic bar the midgies, couldnt enjoy the amazing garden at night past 7pm, but nothing can really be done about them though, only gripe I think we could say about the house and garden area.
Rowan house was an amazing place to spend our holiday. The house was clean, comfortable and homely and communication with Rupert, the owner, was always extremely easy and helpful. The gardens and surroundings of the house are absolutely beautiful, and the wood fired hot tub is a great feature. I would not hesitate to recommend Rowan house to anyone, and I hope to come back for another visit one day!
What an amazing house, perfect place for an excellent family holiday , house was immaculate and had everything we needed. Hot tub was excellent and grounds were beautiful and very well maintained. My granddaughter also loved feeding the red squirrels and ducks. Rupert the owner of the property was very helpful and informative of the area. We were a party of 10 and everyone of us are looking forward to returning next year. 1st Class.
What an amazing place to spend Christmas with the extended family. Rupert very kindly had decorated the house for Christmas including a 13ft Christmas tree. Stunning house, great garden and a gorgeous setting, would love to come back in the summer months and explore the area further. Only one critisism is that there is only one shower cubicle with the other showers over bath but we coped with that. Thanks Rupert and family for a lovely holiday.
Alison
Had a lovely stay at Rowan House, plenty of space for everyone . Rupert was very helpful with things to do and see . Garden and views are beautiful. Enjoyed feeding the squirrels, watching the ducks and even spotted an otter several times , quite exciting for all! Plenty of everything in the house with lovely welcoming treats . Hope to return.
Beautiful and well equipped house in lovely surroundings. Perhaps another enclosed shower would be useful as the baths were quite high for an older person to use. The bonus for us was seeing red squirrels and also a stag which came strolling by one morning.
Lorraine
This house is really high standard, they had the extra touches that make it so much better, dishwashers and laundry tablets, bin bags, pegs etc it just makes it so much easier. Rupert was so helpful and we loved watching the ducks, red squirrel, woodpecker and all other birds .It was good area to visit places with spectacular views and roads especially the one through to Kylesku. Wed 100 recommend this house.
Nicola
Rowan House is in a beautiful location with stunning countryside and wonderful wildlife all around. We enjoyed watching the ducks and squirrels in the garden grounds every morning. Our dogs loved the miles of forestry walks bordering the house. Facilities nearby were great, I could even buy Gluten Free goods at the local Ardgay Stores, with the nearby Asda being a short hop to Tain. During our week we enjoyed Gold Panning at Kildonan and fossil hunting at Helmsdale and stunning beach walks at Dornoch. The owners son also gave me lessons on trout fishing, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Overall, we had a wonderful week at Rowan House and would recommend this location for a wonderful holiday.
Cynthia
A wonderful house with excellent facilities in a fabulous location. Beautiful, huge garden with ponds, amazing birdlife, and visiting red squirrels and the occasional deer. The surrounding countryside is inviting with great access to inland walks and beaches on east and west coast. The house is large and very friendly, with lovely sitting rooms plus fireplaces, big bedrooms and bathrooms, a well appointed and easytouse kitchen, a useful bootroom, and splendid bookshelves. We were a party aged 8 to 80plus, and we all had a fun, memorable and relaxing holiday.
