2 Southern Place Reviews

Jessica
We really enjoyed our stay as did our four legged family members. The lodge was very comfortable and had everything we could have wanted or needed. We go away to avoid fireworks for our senior dog and the location was very quiet. We also have a reactive dog and were nervous about being on a site but the lodges are well spaced out and this particular one is secluded by a hedge which was great for privacy. We are already thinking about booking for next year but may try a different lodge with different facilities on the site. We really didnt want to come home.
Beautiful location, accurately described, excellent after sales follow up calls ensuring all was ok. We had a wonderful few days. Thank you so much.
Beautiful cabin in great peaceful and private location. The photos online show it as it was 6 years ago when new and are not a true reflection of its current state. I do not mind paying the luxury prices if that is what I receive. Unfortunately it is tired in places the dining chairs are very worn and require recovering or replacing Chairs in cinema room need the leather refurbishing. cushions for outdoor furniture no longer exist looks stark and less comfortable to lay on Maintenance Kitchen bin is in a cupboard with casserole dishes which is a hygiene risk. Would be better under the sink. . Flooring outside shower is worn away and should be replaced . Mould on shower caulking so caulking should be replaced. Cleaning Issues . Dog nose marks all along the interior patio doors leading to the sauna from previous tenants dogs. . Glass balcony on upper deck covered in moss and had to be cleaned again whilst we were there, thank you Claudia . Steps leading to upper deck are covered in thick cobwebs from previous weeks. Each holiday accommodation I have rented from Sykes previously have been absolutely spotless and tip top condition. This one does not reach your standard currently to warrant the luxurious impression given when booking. This could soon be remedied and it would be worth every penny. I have photos should you wish to see them. Kind regards Mark and Kay

2 Southern Halt is a lovely lodge in a fantastic location and setting. Plenty of privacy afforded by thoughtful planting and landscaping. A peaceful and relaxing environment. Obviously this is not cheap accommodation and in the main, our expectations were met. A couple of points that we found were in need of attention Intermittent and quite alarming noise emitted from the fridgefreezer which actually woke us up on our last morning. Reported to the receptionist upon leaving so hopefully sorted before the next guests arrived. Glass balustrading to the rooftop terrace has not been cleaned for quite some time judging by the amount of green mould. Ceiling lights in the bedroom didnt operate. We made do with the lamps and reading lights. There were no pamphlets in the lodge giving details of local attractions and places of interest. No hooks or shelf in the shower cubicle for soap and shampoo etc. A few small cobwebs inside the lodge were missed by the cleaning crew. Many cobwebs found on the decked areas, which are inevitable. Overall a nice place to stay, however at this price point we felt it important to highlight these issues.

Before our stay the staff were very good at reaching out and checking everything was ok. Accommodation was good and generally as expected from the images and description. Disappointed that basics like toilet paper are not considered as something to be supplied. Had an allergic reaction to the leather sofa in the lodge probably due to antifungal and antibacterial treatments, suggest not to stay in this lodge if you have a skin sensitivity this is the first time I have ever had this reaction form a leather sofa.

We had a fantastic time on what was our first trip to Southern Halt it wont be our last! The luxury lodge with private setting, the spa room, the thoughtful mini toiletries and kitchen pack all added to a wonderful weekend away. The staff were friendly and helpful and in regular contact to make sure that the weekend was trouble and stress free. I would recommend this site to any family and friends.
Steven
Really lovely and luxurious accommodation. Well maintained throughout with lots to do and explore. Of particular note the sauna and cinema room which we found enormously useful when the weather failed us! The grounds were really nice and spacious and we woke up to rabbits in the garden most mornings. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at 2 Southern Place and would recommend it.
Jessica
Fantastic site. Near reception was a big patch with grass with a hill at the back that has a path zigzagging to the top for some gorgeous views. This was a nice place to walk the dog on bad weather days or to end the day. The staff were lovely and accommodating and gave us great recommendations for places to go nearby. It's nice having the sister site with the old mill restaurant we arrived early for check in so went there for drinks and they let us know when we could check in and it is close to Southern Halt. Amenities were great and WiFi was great I could plug my firestick tv into the TV and watch things easily. Day 1 we were looking at coming back in the future.
Lauren
We absolutely loved staying here, amazing lodge and very helpful and kind staff. Would highly recommend! The only thing I would say, is it could do with some sort of restaurant bar on site or within walking distance.
Great stay and great accommodation. We came to relax and we achieved this. The team were available when required. Highly recommended.
We stayed for a week and had mixed feelings. CONS We specifically searched for properties with a hot tub. THIS PROPERTY DOES NOT HAVE A HOT TUB. It has a large jacuzzi inside so was misleading. A nice touch was finding a TV to watch when in the jacuzzi but this does not work and apparently the intention is not to replace it. Car parking was the opposite side of the cabin to the entrance. This generally isn't a problem for most but for disabled people it meant loading and unloading the car took a while, particularly when trying to pull a suitcase over the gravel. Twice during our stay the boiler lost pressure which meant no hot water or central heating. Thankfully the underfloor heating in the kitchen area and shower room was effective so we still had one warm room. Maintenance service was prompt. PROS The cabin itself was very well equipped and tastefully furnished with quality fittings. It was comfortable and when the boiler works, very warm and cosy. We slept well but a double duvet on a superking size bed isn't practical as there is no overhang at the sides. The shower was large and easily accessible. We were allowed to take our two small dogs and they were safely enclosed. We took blankets to use as they are not allowed on the white bedding and we didn't want them scratching the sofa. Our stay was the end of February and we found it very quiet which we appreciated. For a getaway retreat away from it all it's ideal. For those who like saunas that was an added pleasure. I do feel though that there should be adequate safety advice to safeguard those with health conditions. The local Morrisions store delivers to the site with online ordering so if you plan ahead you can have your groceries arrive shortly after you arrive. We won't be going back but will continue booking with Sykes to stay in places with a hot tub. If the cabin had a hot tub we would.
Andrea
We have just enjoyed a wonderful winter 4nighter, having taken a little punt on staying Inland and also on a complex of sortsneither of which we have ever done, thinking we preferred individual, coastal properties. Lets just say at midnight on our last evening, we were booking for 6 weeks time in a similar lodge, to make our Leaving Day just that little bit less painful! Lovely property & areatiny note to ownerswe did miss the coffee machinewouldve brought our compact one & maybe update Jacuzzi laminate as the TV is not working & unfixable would've saved the Hunt The Controller before mentioning it to reception Thanks for a lovely break away!
We had a fabulous Christmas break and will be returning soon.
Jessica
We really enjoyed our break at Southern halt. Tracey was really helpful and called to say our lodge was ready early. Upon arrival we were really impressed with the lodges facilities the cinema room was our favourite and it was very clean. The site is quiet and secure. We stayed the week before Christmas and it was a lovely addition to have a Christmas tree. We ate at the restaurant at stone rush lakes the day we arrived which was great the food was excellent and staff were very attentive and dog lovers!. The lodge was really warm and we enjoyed coming back to the sauna after a cold winters walk on the beach. We hope to return soon as we had a wonderful week.
Ashleigh
Ive come here for the third time in 3 years and always enjoyed it. The staff are friendly, the lodge is clean and tidy, the views are beautiful and its nice and quiet. Location is great too easily get to all places.
Trevor
Absolutely lovely accomodation. Everything as described.
We had a wonderful week, although the weather was two much for our dogs so we had to make use of the lodge facilities which were amazing. The sky deck was wonderful and we loved chilling in the cinema room. The jacuzzi was absolutely fantastic! We are returning for Christmas and also next April.
Daniel
Beautiful lodge. Everything was clean and tidy. Perfect base to explore Cornwall. Very peaceful. Hopefully we will book again for next year
Andrew
The location is quiet and peaceful in a very pretty setting. The lodge was spacious and included everything and more that you could need for a relaxing stay. The only feedback, in what was truly a wonderful stay is that the supplied DVD player in the cinema room couldn't play any of the large selection on Bluray discs provided. Also a shelf in the shower would be nice rather than all your suppliers having to be stored on the floor. These are minor observations though as otherwise the lodge was perfect. The bed was super comfy and the sauna and jacuzzi bath were a real treat. The outside areas were plesent, especially the Sky deck which our dog enjoyed. One final thought, a door mat outside the front door would be a useful addition too, although there is a large matted area just inside. All in all a really great place to stay for a holiday in Cornwall which I feel confident to heartily recommend to everyone. You will not be disappointed.
Lovely place to stay The property has everything you need Although you have ... Lovely place to stay The property has everything you need Although you have to drive to places its still worth staying in the lodge as its only 30 minute drive to the dog friendly beaches and 5 10 minute drive to lovely lakes for walks Would definitely stop again
We had a fantastic time, the complex is dog friendly, it was very clean, quiet and in a beautiful location. The lodge which we had was very well equipped and we felt thoroughly spoilt while we were there. We will be back
Well, what can I say! My only regret is that our holiday was for one week, rather than two. I booked this break for my partner's 60th birthday. To my suprise, we had balloons and a bottle on arrival, which was a lovely suprise. The lodge was over and above our expectations. There was everything you needed, from washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, all the kitchen essentials, with a small dining area for two. The walkin shower was great, especially if you have mobility issues. The bedroom was both comfortable and spacious. The living area had a comfortable settee and large TV, where you were able to sign into your Netflix. WiFi was available free of charge. The cinema room we used quite a lot, as there were two comfortable reclining chairs. The lodge itself was bright and airy. Very private, no one overlooking, so relaxing and peaceful. Not to forget that these properties are selfcatering, although you have the bare essentials, take your basics such as washing up liquid, washing machine detergent, kitchen roll, toilet rolls, waste bags, etc. Any essentials that you would use at home, take with you. The location is easily accessible and easy to access the villages, harbour towns and seaside resorts. A beautiful part of the country and certainly well worth seeing. The weather could have been better, which prevented us from using our roof terrace. This would have been great in the good weather. Unable to comment on jacuzzi bath and sauna, as these were not used. The site is secure, well maintained and there are facilities to dispose of your waste. My partner and I tended to buy from the bakeries and take back to our lodge. There are the usual supermarkets not too far away, such as Lidl, Morrisons, Aldi and more. Also Trago Mills is a stones throw away! The staff are extremely helpful, very approachable and nothing is too much trouble. We both felt totally relaxed after our stay and we shall certainly be booking again in the future. All the pictures shown of the lodges are true. What you see, is what you get! We both look forward to our next stay. Thank you Sykes Cottages.

Lovely lodge
Delighted with the lodge, in a good location, quiet and secluded, very impressed with the facilities in the lodge, which made our stay very relaxing. Staff very helpful, and friendly. Would highly recommend to others.
The most amazing little break for my partner's 30th birthday! Everything felt so luxurious and we really appreciated the little things, like milk in the fridge on arrival and the board games and jigsaw in the front room. We thought it would be nice to have some sort of shelf or toiletries holder in the shower, and maybe a blind or curtain across the front door, but these things didn't have a huge impact on our short stay! We would definitely like to come back when the weather is drier and warmer so we can use the many! outdoor seating areas. Thank you so much for a lovely time!

Wow! This lodge was absolutely perfect! Even better than the pictures and perfectly clean. Really spacious too. You will not be disappointed with it at all. Genuinely felt like we had our own private spa and cinema. The white robes were perfect to relax in. The added bits like tea, coffee, washing up liquid, soaps were ideal. The instructions were easy to follow and the lodge was easy to find. The heating was on when we got there which we were delighted with. All the functions were easy to use cinemasaunaspa bath etc. There was everything you needed in the welcome booklet too. The lodge smelt fresh and clean and was just so luxury. Will absolutely be booking to come back again. The perfect winter break. If youre reading the review for other lodges and youre not sure like I was when booking please note this spa bath is perfectly clean and no black bits in sight.
This lodge we had stayed in is absolutely beautiful, and it was a break well needed we've already booked to come back for next year so I highly recommend it here if you're looking for a nice relaxing break away. The cleanliness and comfort was second to none, the little things which had been done for our arrival was so thoughtful and lovely also! X
Miss Humphrey
A lovely lodge set in a very quiet area. Well equipped. We had a lovely stay with our 2 dogs.
Mrs Howarth
Wonderful lodge. Liked 3 seating areas, secure for dogs on two decks and private garden. Loved cinema room & jacuzzi tub. Would suggest a parasol, sun shades for top deck as was so hot we couldnt use it until evening.
Mrs Thompson
The outside of top deck needs a deep clean Could do with a measuring jug in kitchen Vacuum needs replacing it smells Think you should supply cleaning products if you want people to clean before they leave ! Enjoyed our stay lovely comfortable bed
Mr Bolton
Second stay at 2 Southern Place. Great place to stay to explore Cornwall and South Devon. Comfortable lodge, great facilities. A couple of areas getting ready for some TLC. Cleaning cold be better, a few cobwebs knocking about, the sun terrace had an empty bottle and one full of water and cigarette buts left up there and loads of leaves which had obviously been there ages. The lack of cleaning equipment remains. One dish cloth and tea towel for a 2 week stay is not sufficient. Toilet cleaner really is a must too. But we were prepared and packed our own. All in all a nice place and a lovely holiday.
Mr Young
Fantastic place perfect base to explore Cornwall, spotless and quiet and great for dog very happy
