Peony Cottage Reviews

Lovely cottage! Located on the quieter side of Windermere, it is perfect for a nice, relaxing break away from busier Bowness! The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and was very well equipped, with the welcome biscuits and bottle of fizz particularly nice touches! The hot tub is also excellent and, with no light pollution at all, the stars are amazing to view on a clear night There is plenty of good walking on the doorstep of the cottage, without the need to get in the car, and trips to Bowness or Ambleside are easily achieved using the Windermere ferry service, which is only a 10 minute walk from the cottage and which I highly recommend. The Lakeside Hotel & Spa is also only 10 minutes walk away with views across the lake and a small but very good spa! Definitely planning on visiting again. 10 out of 10!!
Had a fantastic week at Peony Cottage! The cottage is very comfortable and clean. They could have tried to make it fit 4 people but making it for 2 is perfect. Had a small issue on arrival that was sorted immediately. Great walks right in the door step and the local area is beautiful. If youre looking for a quiet get away this is the place. Directions given in the welcome email are perfect and had no trouble finding it considering it not visible from the road. Lots of towels and blankets, the welcome tea, Coffey and biscuits were perfect after a long drive. Will definitely be going back in the winter this year. Thanks
Rhianna

We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The hot tub was perfect to relax in and the bed was super comfy! A quiet location with plenty of places to visit around the area.
Peony Cottage is idyllic , set in beautiful tranquil woodland. Perfect location to explore the Windermere, Coniston Waters and surrounding villages particularly Hawkshead. You can literally step out the front door and turn right at bottom of drive for the most peaceful walk up to High Dam, stand and listen for a moment and you hear nothing but the sounds of nature. The cottage is everything you want and need, the owners Julie and Alistair have thought of every little detail. The Hot Tub is a real bonus at the end of a long day walking, to relax those weary bones and muscles. We all have are own opinions when giving feedback but please ignore the negative comments some holiday makers have left, the cottage is absolutely perfect for a relaxing break. We will be back as soon as we can. Thank you Julie and Alistair
Absolutely beautiful cottage just a 510 walk down to lakeside where you can catch the boat to Bowness or Ambleside. Hot tub was fantastic with a little seating area. And plenty of room for parking. Only issues we had were the top step into the cottage was loose and standing in it was very dangerous and the oven was a nightmare to use. But we had a very pleasant stay
A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location to explore the lake district. 10 mins walk to the ferrytrain and a lovely walk up to High Damn which starts at the cottage. Great hosts and nothing is too much trouble. We will be back. Lisa & Ian

Great location with walks on the doorstep and lots of places to visit. You can go from Lakeside on the boat to Bowness which is lovely. We also visited South Walney Nature Reserve and the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. The cottage is very private and hot tub is great to have. Enjoyed our week in Cumbria enjoying the Lake District before heading further up into Scotland.
Peony cottage was a lovely quiet place to stay. It was fitted out with everything you need and also lovely touches like tea coffee biscuits for when you arrive. Also lovely toiletries in the bathroom. The hot tub was such a luxury and so nice to use after a day out. Within walking distance of Windermere lake for beautiful scenic boat trips. Would highly recommend a stay in this delightful cottage.

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights and it was a perfect getaway. The owners were super friendly and helpful and the cottage itself was wonderful. The hot tub is perfect for relaxing in after a long walk and the bed is the comfiest bed ever! Absolutely everything was just perfect about this place. We will definitely be booking again.
Rebecca
Excellent stay, great location. Everything we needed on hand. Owners around the corner and very helpful. Loved all the little extra touches. We will definitely visit again.

Would absolutely recommend this little cottage, we felt so much at home from the moment we walked through the door. Alistair and Julie really put some effort into making your stay so nice, you get towels provided for the hot tub along with bath robes. There are so many books, games, DVDs and videos for you to use and the bed is soooooo comfy. The hot tub is quite secluded so you can relax. There are numerous instructions for all the appliances and remote controls that if you have any problems you will easily work them out.
Elizabeth
This property is beautifully decorated, so comfy and warm. We had the most wonderful stay thank you.

Me and my boyfriend just had the most amazing stay at peony cottage. The attention to detail from the hosts was amazing and had the most relaxing time! We had everything we needed and more and the treats left us was such a nice touch. The hosts were super generous and kind and we can not wait to come back and stay again. Would highly recommend this cottage!
Had a great week at Peony cottage the owners were friendly and welcoming and had left a generous welcome tray of biscuits and Prosecco! The hot tub was lovely and the cottage was beautifully decorated cottage. Thank you!
Lovely cottage in a peaceful location which has good access to main routes for trips out. Treats were an unexpected surprise. Had no problems with the oven for a quick dinner on our first night. Owners were very friendly and welcoming.

Beautiful cottage, fabulous hosts and amazing location! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and genuinely didn't want to leave! We will no doubt be back again! Get it booked you won't be disappointed!
Katherine
The treats were a pleasant find, thank you. A good all round location for a trip to the lakes & a nice quiet area. Fan was much appreciated in the heatwave, thank you. The kitchen is so tiny you can't prepare meals in it, plus the hob is not user friendly, & takes a long time to heat food up. The sofa slides everywhere when you sit on it, so we had to move a rug from under a table to be able to sit on it. No mention of the use of feathered pillows, duvet & cushions...I am allergic to them, and as a vegan it is unethical. The TV had no signal so unable to watch it, not a problem for us, but something for others to bear in mind. The patio area only consists of a small table and chairs, not much privacy for that, or for the use of the hot tub, especially when the family are dining outside. Cleanliness was not up to standard expected of a holiday cottage. Many cobwebs, dust, and the tiles in the bathroom are grimy with a lot of black grout. The shower head kept falling from the holder, it was not substantial for a cottage of this price, and the extractor fan didn't work. The doors don't close properly, especially the bathroom. A slab at the front entrance was loose causing my partner to slip down the step. And WORST of all was finding someone's glasses in the bed behind the pillow!!!! Disgraceful!! We have left them 'somewhere' to see if the cleaner finds them.
Heather
Overall a lovely cottage, attention to detail, and welcome pack, complimentary toiletries and little treats were very much appreciated. If you're the sort of person who enjoys preparing and eating main meals of an evening, then the kitchenette is tiny! Unfortunately or fortunately, our stay coincided with a very hot spell of weather, so we couldn't make full use of the lovely hot tub, as we were told that the temperature was set by a company with no local control by the owners! Having said all that, the owners couldn't do enough for us, and the cottage is in a wonderful location for all the activities we wanted to do in the southern lakes.
Rachel Anne
A beautiful, luxurious little retreat in a fantastic location to explore the lakes. . Attention to detail to make us feel welcome was lovely x The hot tub, an absolute bonus to soothe aching legs and relax x Sad to leave
Collin
Peony Cottage was a lovely place to stay and in a great location to explore the Lake District. Highly recommend!
A fantastic cottage, comfortable, clean and well equipped. Hot tub was wonderful, very private and wonderful after a long day exploring. 5minute walk to the ferry. Fantastic stay, so much so I didnt want to leave!

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 10 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 11 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 11 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 14 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 17 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 29 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
