About Shepherd Lodge

This superb lodge is situated a 15 minute stroll from the historic village of Cartmel, at the top of the exclusive Pastures lodge park in a slightly elevated position towards the boundary of this 26 acre park with woodland and glade, thus affording extra outdoor space and privacy. Immaculately-presented in a quality contemporary style, this spacious lodge has open plan living with patio doors from the living area and a bedroom that opens on to the spacious elevated decking screened by glass with patio furniture and hot tub.

On entering the lodge there is a vestibule with seating area and the washer/dryer which leads into the open plan living space with a large comfortable leather settee and woodburner, perfect to relax in front of on those chillier evenings. When warmer, open the patio doors and step onto the decking perhaps for an alfresco meal or drink and listen to the sound of bird song.

The well-equipped stylish kitchen has integral appliances, granite surfaces and has a very useful wine chiller. Stepping into the spacious bedroom there are also patio doors leading to the private decking and the en-suite bathroom has a bath with rain shower over and with beautiful contemporary fixtures and fittings.

The lodge also benefits from a hot tub allowing guests to relax after a hard day exploring the local area. Picturesque Cartmel is just three quarters of a mile away with its 12th century priory, and interesting independent shops and, of course, its eateries and pubs, including the infamous L'enclume restaurant together with a great selection of other restaurants.

There is also the racecourse which holds meets during the summer months when the whole village is open, so a fantastic day out is within walking distance. Locally, there is Newby Bridge, which is at the southerly tip of Windermere, where you can take a boat cruise and view the stunning lakeland scenery on route to Bowness or Ambleside.

Shepherd Lodge Reviews

Stephanie
Whilst the lodge has everything you need and is well equipped, we were quite disappointed to be honest to find the property in darkness,no lights outdoors to navigate our way weather was also against us it took us a good 510 minutes to find the door round the back as it was pitch black. We presumed the door was as you walk up the drive. Lighting was very poor. Once finally in it was so hot we had to open the doors and windows. The thermostat had been left on at 30C, the first night we slept with no covers and windows open brought in a whole new version of bug life too! We realised the previous occupants rubbish had also been left in the bin, which absolutely stank by the next morning. There was no little washing up liquid and anti bac cleaning materials left as the bins themselves and the sink drain stunk of curry. I spent the first half hour wiping down the bins and trying to rid the curry odour. No dishwasher tablets left etc The neighbouring lodge occupants kept slamming doors and I was convinced it was something or someone getting through the door. We could hear them talking and each door shutting. The hot tub area could do with some shelter to make it more private opposite lodge had full view and even shouted over. My partner mentioned the trees on the drive could do with some branches chopping back as they scratched the van. We probably wouldnt return unfortunately.
We arrived at the lodge to find it freezing cold. The heating had obviously not been on for some time, it was minus 2 outside and so cold that the thermostat inside didn't even click! Once we figured out the timer it took all night to heat up. We have stayed in enough of these and each time the property has been climatised upon arrival. Overall the lodge is in good condition but we did feel that for the commanding price it just needs to provide a bit more value for money.
The lodge was lovely and clean. Well equipped unfortunately we stayed when the extreme snow hit and had issue with the hill and car the owners were amazing and so kind definitely will be recommend to friends and will be returning l.

Weve stayed in this place twice now and think its a little hidden gem. Very clean and modern, with washer, dryer, towels, hair dryer, dishwasher etc so no need to bring any thing with you. The hot tub is big enough for two although it could do with a cover if its raining and maybe some fencing round for privacy. Its tucked away right at the end so very quiet. Half an hour distance to Bowness and Kendall. Had a lovely stay and would go again.
Our stay at Shepherds Lodge was great. Beautiful Lodge. If I had any thing to say probably and it's only a small issues is shelter around the hot tub. The hot tub was great but we are on show when you are in the hot tub and when you are getting in and out. Other than that we would highly recommend and will definitely be back to say at the Shepherds Lodge.
Outside lights need replacing. Only the two above the front door are working

We enjoyed the property and had a good break but there were some frustrations Reception on the TV was sporadic and very dependant on weather conditions but may be due to position of the lodge Also we lost water supply twice during the stay but i think this was a site issue and not down to the property
Robert
There were a couple of points. 1 path round the back loose slab. 2 hot tub not very clean & the cover very heavy. 3the bed very dangerous every time you touched it it moved across the floor. 4 step from living room to the patio very high. 5 TV no instructions only able to watch a few channels.
I dont think it was worth the price! 2 the bed was too soft But thats just a personal preference the big problem was how it was on wheels and on a smooth surface it just wouldnt stay still which was quite dangerous!! EG every time you leaned on it. It would move and twice the wheel was near my bear feet!! The first time really hurt the second time I was able to move quickly. 3 For 450 for one night I really think it quite a cheek to only be able to book in at 17.00 and have to leave at 9.00 in the morning?? But thats my own fault because it was clearly explained that was the case on booking. 4 Again to stay in a one bedroom lodge for one night at the price of 450 and only book in from 17.00 and have to leave the following morning at 9.00 you really would expect maybe a little larger Hot tub?? Or if not it must have some kind of shelter over it?? Even a large retractable umbrella or something to protect you from the sun, Wind and Rain?? But despite my own personal issues it was very nice and i would recommend this to anyone!! We had a great time! But I am very entertaining so of course we had a good time.

Lovely property in a great location. Will definitely be revisiting in the future
It was a below average stay for us unfortunately as the neighbours were banging about throughout are stay that sometimes the lodge shook. It made us think we're we noisy but we are very sure we wasn't.Thats why we choose a quiet and relaxing new year getaway. The lodge was small and lovely and suited but I know you can't help the weather but it seemed to not stop raining so we could only use the hot tub for about 10 minutes of our stay.Maybe a shelter for the future for your property. Bed on wheels was a bit surprising and did make us chuckle but I didn't sleep very well to be honest, the pillows definitely too soft for me. Bathroom and Kitchen was very nice.
Brilliant property had an amazing time, everything as advertised, thanks

Had a lovely little break. All was as described and was not left feeling disappointed. Two of the best night's sleep I've had in a long time, due to the comfiness of the bed and pillows. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a break away without the children.
Michael

We have just come back from our honeymoon August 2022 When we arrived we noticed that two of bed legs from the middle of the bed were broken Lamp in the lounge didnt work, lamp in the bedroom didnt work, when using the cooker the spot lights in the kitchen were flashing like you was in a disco. The blinds in the kitchen had 12inch of dust and and grime on them. Mop ringer was broken so couldnt ring out the mop. The advert was quite deceiving as we thought we was getting the whole of the cabin, where actually it was two cabins in one, so you can hear the neighbours moving around. We did let the booking agent know of all the defects and we was told someone would come, but they never did in the 7 days we were there. When you are paying a premium for something you expect everything to be just right
Louisa
Overall a lovely stay, very romantic and suitable for summer. The bed was comfy and it was very open and pretty. Some things that put us off was the directions to the lodge once inside the site were wrong, as the lodge is not in 'Meadows End' and the Name sign was on the floor and not in clear view like the rest of the properties. Many of the lamp light bulbs need fixing. Other than that, the property was lovely, the hot tub was a great touch and Netflix was a bonus. With Windermere 30mins away and Blackpool 1hr away it was a suitable location with a range of activities in a nice drive.
Daniel
The cottage was well presented and clean. Despite many of the reviews regarding the bed, we actually found it to be super comfortable. Would definitely recommend and stay there again in the future.
William
The cabin was lovely And clean. No on site shop which was Disappointing, We had a lovely time and a lovely walk to the village. We was not happy to be checking in at 5pm and out at 9am. This really needs to change. Far to late and early morning and to be asked to leave it as described on the web site was cheeky with it being so early. Strip bedding etc. think thats not rite at all. But we had a lovely time would not return we was not happy with the check in and out time its a shame that.
Lauren
The lodge was lovely! Had everything you need including washer, dryer and dishwasher which was a nice surprise. Being semi detached wasnt a problem, was abit worried about hearing neighbours but rarely did. Enjoyed the hot tub! Loved our stay only thing I would mark down would be the check in and check out times. Checking in at 5pm and out at 9am you loose a whole day. Never stayed somewhere with such a late check in time and such an early leaving time. Was abit disappointing as we was only staying for 3 days, it seemed to go really quickly with not actually getting to spend any time there on the first or last day, apart from that I would recommend!
Michelle
Lovely lodge which we would highly recommend. We had a totally relaxing stay and made use of the hot tub. In terms of kitchen, it had everything we needed and more and due to the stormy weather we made good use of the tvdvd player. Really enjoyable stay and wouldn't hesitate to go back
Overall the Accomodation was good. In the past reviews there is mention of the bed, the mattress really needs replacing.Cleaners need to move the settee and clean underneath but on the whole the place was adequate and comfortable left feeling a bit tired due to poor sleep.
Beautiful Lodge! We had such a great time. Walked into the lodge on arrival day and everything was clean, tidy and smelt lovely. Everything you needed was in the lodge and the hot tub was all set up ready to get into that evening. If you would like a quiet holiday away, this is the place to go.
The cottage was brilliant, expectations were met, it was clean, hot tub fantastic, all the necessities for your stay like irons, washing machine, utensils etc, the only downside was when it came to sleeping. The mattress was very worn, to the point you could see it dipping where other people have slept, there was not much support left in it at all. Ive seen that a previous person has left on the reviews that the lodge needed a new mattress as well. Considering that the bed is probably the most important part of a stay, it was very disappointing to not have the best of sleeps due to this. I would like to hope that this is passed to the owners and they take note of this, other than that, the lodge itself was fantastic, if the mattress was replacedsorted out, I would be very happy returning to this place and recommending to others.
Steven
The bed was past its use by date, woke evert morning with back ache. Between the cushions of the sofa was a big build up of crumbs and stuff which hadn't been cleaned in a while.
Barbara
Lovely n peaceful, we loved Cartmel so beautiful and with only about 20 mins to the lakes. Stunning will definitely return
Antony
The cleanliness of the property was disappointing. As checking in later and checking out earlier I would have expected the lodge to be spotless as extra measures for Covid19 cleaning should have been met. The shower curtain was covered in black mould and we had to contact Sykes to have it replaced. I also lodged a complaint about some utensils being unclean and some surfaces were sticky from drinks. Also there was food splashed on the kitchen windows. When I spilled some water when washing up, I wiped it up with kitchen roll and found that the floor was dirty too. I was not contacted after the shower curtain was replaced the next day to see if I was satisfied. It is such a shame about the lack of cleanliness as the location of the lodge was perfect and it is in a very peaceful, tranquil setting.
A fabulous venue to stay, in a great location to explore the Lake District. Would definitely stay again. One tip, if the weather is warm, make sure you take a fan or a humidifier as the extreme weather meant at times the lodge resembled a sauna
Nice property, very clean and comfortable, in a good area as a base to travel about, lovely and quiet at night to enable a nice relax after your day exploring the lake district. Only observation, no cupboard space for food that we brought with us. Apart from that, all good
Graham
The lodge need a new mattress The outside space needs to be extended for more comfort
The lodge was much more spacious than we anticipated and decorated to a highspec. The location was perfect very private and quiet, and the lodge was very clean and warm. We were even gifted a pot of ice cream! It's so close to the nearby Cartmel where we visited daily, for lovely lunches as the Cavendish arms and long walks from the Racetrack, and several visits to the famous sticky toffee pudding shop. We loved the lodge and would definitely return and recommend to friends.
We really loved our stay at Shepherd Lodge! The lodge itself is actually bigger than it looks in the pictures, really comfy, cosy, and clean we felt at home right away. The kitchen is very well stocked with nice quality pots, pans, and utensils and the waterfall shower is so nice, I will genuinely miss it. The hot tub was always ready to use and cleanedserviced every morning, and instructions for the log fire were clear and easy to follow. The site is quiet we even saw some deer on the patio one morning! and where the lodge is situated at the end of a lane it feels secluded and private. We would definitely stay here again!
Jennifer
We had the most amazing time at Shepherds Lodge! The lodge was beautiful, finished to a very high standard, literally can't fault it! We are a family of 2 adults and an infant, our little one had such a fun time running exploring each room, and using the hot tub with the temp turned down! the house was naturally very warm which was a nice treat in winter. Using the log fire and hot tub were the perfect way to unwind at the end of the day, it was magical, and so lovely being out in the countryside. The kitchen was well equipt and had everything in that we needed to make a gousto meal that we brought with us. Note to future guests bring olive oil, saltpepper, and washing up liquid & cloth so you don't have to buy any. There is a convenience store about 5mins drive away if you forget anything though. The area is stunning, plenty to do. Food is gorgeous from the Cavendish Pub. Locals are so friendly. Would definitely return!
Sharon
The only downside was the hot tub. The cover was really heavy to take off and put back on so if you were elderly or not very strong You would struggle with this. Also it is not sheltered by a pagoda so when it rained you either had to get out or get wet. We had a power cut on the second night but it was not the Internal fuse box. We called the holiday company who got someone to come round and rectify the problem which turned out to be the main power box outside the property so we were waiting an hour or so in the dark whilst it was sorted out. We noticed the lodge next door had the same problem.
Eleanor
Lovely little hideaway cabin to stay in! . Would definitely recommend staying here. Local villages around are great for home cooked food. Plenty of walks and scenery nearby. Quiet and the log cabin was lovely after a day out!.
Great time but could do with extra mirrors
Very nice and clean everything you nehot tub was great eded was there dishwasher washer dryer
We were initially disappointed with the lack of WiFi and the loss of tv signal, however, these matters were addressed following a couple of phone calls. Otherwise the lodge was great.
