Penlaurel Reviews

Had a lovely stay at Penlaurel. Very comfy and plenty of space to relax, cook, or enjoy the lounges in. Also a nice welcome of bubbly & chocs. The garden was large but due to some wet weather I found some flagstones very slippery underfoot. I kept my dog on his stretchy lead as parts of the garden seemed less secure for my dog and animals were entering overnight and toileting. However the garden is so big, my dog still had plenty of space to play in. The hot tub was large and welcome after a day of walking and exploring Cornwall. The hot tub is set back in amongst trees and shrubs, which was nice and private. But as the light fades in autumn we found there was not enough garden light to clearly see the entrance to the hot tub and tripped against steps partially hidden by an overgrown bush on the first night. Defo grab a torch from the property or use the one on your phone if going into the hot tub during the evenings. A garden broom would be useful so visitors can sweep away fern leaves etc away from the hot tub as we tracked some back into the house. On the last morning I found the neighbours gardener in our garden using an electric saw at height chopping down tree branches, with our side gate open. Thankfully my dog was on his lead, or he wouldve run straight out of the gate. The bloke didnt seem remotely concerned with his behaviour and I had to quite firmly tell him to leave and shut the gate. He hadnt even knocked at the property to ask if it was ok to come into the garden. I was fuming. I would recommend a lock for the gate to prevent another near miss. Overall we had a fantastic time, in this beautiful property. It is well located for visits to Tintagel, Bude, Padstow, Bodwin moors to name a few. I would recommend.

Fabulous property would recommend to anyone. A couple of small maintenance issues but nothing that would take away from a wonderful stay
The actual house itself is lovely apart from the cellar door underneath the front living room under the rug. There were several issues that we were extremely disappointed in that really took the shine off our trip given the amount we paid for the week. The kids were very excited about the hottub but it was surrounded by large bushes preventing any natural light getting through, our kids were too scared to stay in after 10 minutes. The garden had an extremely rusty bench that only had 3 legs that was both dangerous giving we have young children as well as being an eye sore. The bbq was tiny and filthy so not fit for use. The garden was full of sharp leaf holly bushes that injured both our kids and dogs on a daily basis. There were several weedsnettles across the garden which was generally unkept. Another dangerous point is that the angle of the driveway was about 45oC from the road facing downhill, we had several near misses when reversing out into a very busy road linking local towns. I also attempted to walk our dogs on a daily basis prior to going out for the day but the country roads by the house are very narrow with no pavements with cars often driving at 60mph. Unless youre willing to drive there are no places within a reasonable and safe walking distance. Overall, whilst the house was nice, we do feel we overpaid considerably for our trip on reflection, which is a first for us having used Sykes for years I had pictures to back up all of our claims including the hot tub and bench but there doesnt appear to be an upload option.
Louise
A beautiful house and garden with so many thoughtful touches provided for a wonderful stay. It really was a lovely holiday there for us!
Rebecca
Such a beautiful house in a great location to explore Cornwall. Fantastic facilities and a huge hot tub. Garden was secure for our cocker spaniel who loved exploring the garden. The house is on a road without a path so it was tricky to take the dog for a walk from the house. The garden was a little overgrown and was in need of a tidy up but this wasn't a problem for us. We also couldn't find any recycling boxes which was a shame. Would definitely visit again.
Beautiful house in a fabulous location. We spent a week at the property in May 2024, great location for shops supermarkets and exploring Cornwall. The garden is secure, our dogs loved it as much as we did. We had mixed weather but the covered Hot tub was a lovely way to spend a rainy evening! We enjoyed it so much we have already booked to return this July!

We had a lovely weeks stay at the Penlaurel from the 3rd 10th May 2024. We couldnt fault the property, it was very luxurious. Plenty of room for 6 adults, 1 toddler and 2 dogs. We spent a lot of time in the spacious garden. The bears were a very nice unique touch. There was plenty of room for 3 cars on the gated drive. We would definitely recommend staying here. Most attractions are a 30 minute plus drive away.
Beautiful spacious house with many rooms exceptionally well equipped they have thought of most things. The house is decorated tastefully with many original features retained. The hot Tub is a bonus after a busy day exploring what Cornwall has to offer and there is a nice pub about a mile away in South Petherwin. Good base to visit North Cornwall and South West Devon
A fantastic stay at a beautiful home. Lots of thoughtful touches made us feel welcomed, trusted and able to relax in comfort. Was fortunate enough to spend Christmas week here and even received an array of gifts from Santa under a beautiful tree! Daughter particularly enjoyed the hot tub but the whole house, including its comfy beds, were a hit. Thank you again.
Second visit to the fantastic holiday home. Everything is just immaculate. Highly recommend.
What a beautiful house, even better than the pictures. Tastefully furnished, very calming and comfortable. House was impeccable with every thing you need. Beds were very comfortable, so much space with different areas to relax and spend quiet time. Launceston is well placed to reach coastal towns. Hot tub is a real bonus. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a country Manor House feel with contemporary ambiance added to by the lovely bear theme in every room! Bravo team Penlaural

Second visit to the fantastic holiday home. Everything is just immaculate. Highly recommend.

We couldn't have asked for a more comfortable stay in a holiday cottagehome. Penlaurel was beautifully furnished and spacious, and we were delighted that we were able to take our three spaniels on holiday with us. The garden was lovely too, we only wish we could have spent more time in it but being October we knew this was unlikely to happen, however we had a thoroughly relaxing time in the hot tub and roll top bath. Thank you for the bottle of prosecco and Lindt choccies my favourite! which was a lovely welcome gift. my only small suggestion would be to add a pop of colour here and there to break up the grey!
This property was beautiful throughout. Very clean, thoughtful details, like snuggle blankets and even blankets for the dog too! The garden was stunning and well tended. It was a lovely place to stay and relax

We did find empty crisp bags in a draw which we thought was bad, more towels as we used them for hot tub also or more washing tablets , hot tub instructions and test strips to check water safety , The main thing for me and my mom and daughters were there are no chairs for dressing tables we found this odd and pointless to have the tables and no chairs ,Also a tv in all rooms in living area would be a good extra , overal we enjoyed our stay it was a lovely house these things would just make it a lot better
We all enjoyed our stay. . the house and the gardens are just lovely. The hot tub provided lots of fun too. We had to be diligent about keeping the front gates closed and we also put some chicken wire across as one of our dogs is very small. If there was a way of securing the back garden from the parking area and gate it would have been more relaxing!
Louise
What a beautiful property and a great location to visit Cornwall! We loved the house it was stunning, beautifully decorated and spacious! The hot tub was amazing too!
We had a lovely stay at Penlaurel. The cottage and garden are really spacious, clean and well maintained. We had everything we needed and the hosts provided a nice clean travel cot for our baby boy, who also slept very well all week
A lovely house plenty of space for 5 adults, a little one and a dog with the added benefit of a large rear garden with plenty of use from the hot tub. We particularly liked having various downstairs areas we could each use in the evening, with separate TVs, spaces to read etc, and the large dining table was welcome. Things to note The road was noisier than expected this seems to be a significant route used to get in and out of Launceston from the south, so there was constant traffic throughout the day and eveningnight did ease up as you would expect but the house is right on the road. We had a gardener turn up one morning without any warning, this was eventually dealt with as we wanted privacy, but felt like a lack of communication. The gardening did desperately need doing, the front was a bit small for 3 cars, but should be planned ahead of peak season.
Michael
We booked Penlaurel because we wanted plenty of space even though there was just the two of us. The house delivered all the aspects we were looking for. Good to have plenty of parking. The owner kindly agreed to us leaving the gates open during our stay which really helped when exiting and entering the property, otherwise we would have personally found it tricky i'm not very agile The secure gates are obviously there for the safety of anyone with dogs. A couple of small things that I would have found useful were...a soap dish on the wall of the large shower and a hook or small rail for the hand towel beside the wash basin in the ensuite. The property offers a choice of softer or firmer beds and this was helpful for us. Although the main lounge is very stylish and well presented, again, for the comfort of a softer sofa with my creaky joints we preferred to use the seating area in the extension off the kitchen. This is a lovely light area with a big television. And equally good for just relaxing and reading a book. We feel we made the right choice in booking Penlaurel and would stay there again. Thank you to the owners for the box of chocolates and bottle of wine that was a nice touch.
Stunning property! Warm, comfy, clean and a lovely feel to the place. Our dog is blind and he seemed to love it too. Great base for exploring but lovely if you just want to stay at the house and relax the garden and hot tub was lovely. During the stay our son developed an ear infection so the advice on the doctor's etc was really helpful and he was seen and treated within a few hours. Super x
Stephen
Excellent base for travelling to different locations every day, close to amenities and main route through Devon and Cornwall. The house was immaculate, all mod cons, cleaned to high standard. Loved our time there, would definitely book again, and recommend to anybody thinking of booking. Thanks The Harness's
Just perfect Only thing that could be improved is there were no recycling facilities in the house
Amazing holiday home immaculate! Looking forward to returning asap!

Perfect base for 3 golfers and two wives left at home! The hot tub was a lovely treat and one of the reasons I chose the property. Our two Labradors enjoyed playing in the secluded garden. A lovely property and were hoping to be back again next year. Thank you. ,
Excellent Property. Parking was a bit tight for our VW T5 Campervan. Our Dog loved the garden and we loved the interior especially the bears.
A lovely, well appointed holiday home that provided us with a really comfortable stay. Super comfy beds and plenty of space for a family of 5. Sky TV provides a full package of entertainment including movies and Netflix. Lovely hot tub and a huge garden. The garden is undersold in the description and pictures, it was bigger than we were expecting. 3545 minutes to the beaches on the north coast and just over an hour to St Ives.
It was an amazing cottage!
What a wonderful holiday home Penlaurel is. It became known in our week as the Bear House by our son who is 28 and autistic. He loved the bears as did our two bears, Ivan and Wilson who are Chow Chows. Penlaurel is in a great location for visiting Cornwall and we had some lovely days out exploring new places. It was also lovely to spend time in the house and of course the hot tub. Immaculately clean, exceptionally presented and furnished with everything you could think of that you would need. The garden is great as enclosed and perfect for our dogs. An absolute five star week and we were also very blessed with wonderful sunshine. Thank You
Wow wow WOW! ! What an incredible house!!! It was IMMACULATE, beautifully decorated, and a real home from home. The photos don't do the garden justice there's a big lawn to play with dogschildren. We will definitely return.
The house is lovely and the photos do not do it justice, everything you need is there, plenty of space for everyone to relax and when you do want to be together some lovely communal spaces. Beds were comfortable, and throws provided for the sofas. The garden is large with lots to explore and our dog enjoyed this space. We had an issue with the hot tub but this was fixed as soon as we reported it, excellent service. Just a note for others our dog needs to go for a walk and you need to get in your car and drive back to the town as there are no pavements and the road is narrow and busy and most do not keep to the speed limit so bare this in mind. One other tip would be to include what 3 words to locate the property more accurately. Overall an excellent stay.
Francesca
This was our second stay in this amazing cottage. The most comfortable place we've ever stayed! From the amazing hot tub, fabulously comfy beds to the beautiful garden. Everything spotlessly clean and so tastefully decorated. We didn't want for anything whilst staying here and will most definitely be booking to stay again. Thank you so much to the wonderful owners for being so fabulous
Really enjoyed our stay here. House is beautiful, well equipped and had everything we needed. Garden is much bigger than the pictures suggest and is beautifully landscaped. A real home from home.
Michael
Fantastic house ! Our second stay here and we have had an amazing week away again Everything you need the house is so warm and comfy a home away from home. Beautiful gardens and the hot tub is brilliant .
Stephen
Great property all the facilities you require, quality bedding and towels. Bathrobes and separate towels for the fantastic hot tub were appreciated. Lovely well sealed off garden for your four legged friends. Nice touch the chocolates and prosecco. If you are looking for a weekend break or longer would highly recommend. Trethorne golf club a very welcoming club and great course is just 10 minutes away and the market town of Tavistock is only 30 minutes away if you are looking for a place in North Cornwall you won't go wrong booking Penlaurel.
