About Ploony Cottage

A traditional farmhouse, situated adjacent to Plooney Barn, in a pretty valley just outside the village of Bleddfa, Mid Wales. The cottage is the perfect base for families or friends looking to relax and experience an idyllic, peaceful location in the stunning border countryside.

Set over two floors, there are three comfortable bedrooms and a family bathroom, as well as a traditional, well-equipped kitchen with a stone-flagged floor and dining area. Across the hall is the cosy sitting room with a woodburner, where you can unwind after exploring the area.

Outside, you can sit on the patio in the calming garden, which has a raised veranda with a six-seater hot tub, sloping lawns and a further terraced lawned area looking across the valley and down to the idyllic cottage. A mountain stream runs through the garden, which offers plenty of room to run and play, sit under the mature trees, or relax on the patio while the children enjoy exploring the large undulating garden.

This delightful farmhouse cottage is situated on a rarely used and ancient by-way, which enables you to walk to a local drink only pub in Llangunllo serving local real ales, being either a one or two mile walk away depending on which direction you choose, a wonderful opportunity to travel along paths used for hundreds of years in unspoilt countryside. You are ideally placed to explore the green rolling hills and Knighton, making Ploony Cottage the perfect gateway in the Shropshire Hills AONB.

Knighton is linked with the walkerÂ’s town of Kington, by OffaÂ’s Dyke that meanders through the countryside along the border between Wales and England, in the area known as the Welsh Marches. It is a pretty market town, with the traditional landscape of Hergest Croft Gardens and its popular tea rooms.

Ploony Cottage Reviews

Vivian
Lovely cottage where you can live in absolute peace and quiet. Comfy cottage and we loved it.
The fenced garden is only secure for medium large dogs, it isnt truly dog friendly as they are not free to roam the house either. The step into the house should be wider to allow for the collection of water on rainy days,I would recommend the same for the area of hot tub which Sally slid backwards on landing on her back and the stepping arrangemt up into the garden was equally hazardous. The image on line had cushions on the kitchen chairs and the day bed upstairs which were not there when we arrived, we had to wash the crockery ,cutlery and glasses before using them, there was food on the breadboard which we left untouched. This affected how comfortable we felt and affected us from the start. There was a general lack of care the stone wall in the bathroom needed a good clean, the silicone around the shower area needed renewing. The smaller front bedroom had webs and a swarm of midges considering we only got inside around 430 due to the change over policy. It should also be pointed out that this is not a secluded position as the barn is a holiday let and there are signs for more lodges off the drive the photos are disingenuous. There was an infestation of flies around the downstairs area which we spent a lot of time hoovering up and using fly tape, it was really bad, we couldnt beat them, no idea how they were getting in.All in all this was a disappointing property and vastly over priced. The property could do with a dish washer too.
Fantastic location away from the busy world with a cute garden for dogs. Really nice homely cottage
Deborah
Fantastic week had by the family. The dog loved the garden and we felt comfortable like a home from home. Beautiful location and property we will definitely be back

T is a shame I am compelled to write this but as the cottage and location are a gem. However, after failing to resolve privately with either owners or sykes I have little choice. We had an electrical issue similar it would seem to those in 2023 in the reviews. The issue is a known leaky worktop a known issue as evidenced in text messages from the owner and the use of a live coiled extension lead underneath. Needless to say a dangerous situation. As referenced in previous reviews there is no signal and with internet down I was claiming up the hill to contact the owner. The response was delayed, defensive and inadequate. With the electric back after 3 hours, the longer solution, to come back the next day with a hairdryer!!! Not acceptable in any circumstance but when paying near 1000 for 4 nights this stung. Agreed to be in all morning no one turned up till 2. Since complaining through Sykes a complete waste of time the owners have refused all responsibility and I was surprised that no good will gesture was offered. After reading some of the reviews and responses I do not expect anything other than a defensive response on here. Like I said a real shame as other than the safety issue, it is a gem of a place.
We had the most incredible stay! The area is absolutely stunning and peaceful. It was perfect for my dog with fencing around the garden so she could wonder while I was in the amazing hot tub. The hot tub is covered also so was perfect in the rain. The house its self was fantastic, very clean and had everything we needed. Even used the fire place and watched some Tele it was so relaxing. Couches were so comfy. The kitchen had everything we needed, great big table in there to sit and eat your meals it was really lovely. The beds were unbelievably comfy! Best bed Ive ever slept in and everyone else agreed. Bathroom was clean and plenty of loo roll was given and towels provided. My guests, myself and my dog really enjoyed our stay and the host couldnt have been more accomodating, she recommended walks around the area straight from the cottage and also gave great detailed instructions on how to get there. I would highly recommend staying here its a piece of heaven!! Beautiful home, beautiful location and beautiful views. I cant wait to stay again!
Nicola
Once you get your head around this being a traditional farmhouse and to expect dust and cobwebs then these little things bother you less. The farmhouse has a rustic charm and the owners clearly take great pride in making sure the grounds and facilities are maintained regularly. It's obviously a well used house and there are a few things that are starting to need a bit of TLC which I have no doubt are already on their radar. Really lovely location and very peaceful, unless you book to stay right in the middle of the Wales motorbike Enduro race like we did!! Otherwise there is nothing but sheep amd cows around. It was lovely to sit outside at dusk watching the bats flitting about. Shame that the pub at the end of the lane is closed but there are a few lovely places in the nearby towns which offer nice food and drink. Overall we enjoyed our stay and the house was lovely, it won't suit everyone and if you are looking for something more modern the barn next door or the lodgescabins further down may be more for you but really can't fault how friendly and accommodating the owners of Ploony are. Definitely recommend and hope to be back
Our stay at ploony cottage was good however it could have been brilliant the views and vista are stunning the first problem i had was dog mess on the gravel near the gate and on the lawn . The hand rail going to the upper garden needs replacing as the 1st & 3rd post are rotten as we had a 79 year old with us which nearly fell over because of this. inside the cottage the bedrooms and bedding was good the bathroom needed a deep clean and a new shower mat as the present one has mould and yellow staining . the sitting room room was soulless the kitchen was dirty the pots ,pans , plates had food grease on them also the were chipped fridge had rust on and the cupboards were dirty and doors coming off in general some TLC is needed it would of been nice to see some pictures of the livestock farm in the cottage if these items are sorted it would be a great place to stay
Bryony
A wonderful cottage and gardens. Surrounded by stunning countryside. We had a fantastic stay and would thoroughly recommend Ploony cottage!
Lorraine
Really lovely relaxing place to stay, especially if you really want to be secluded. Thees no local shop but it's only a 10min drive to a supermarket. Beds were comfy and it was well equipped. Hot tub was really lovely. Beautiful garden and is enclosed all the way round with 4ft stock fencing and has a beautiful stream running through it. Down a one mile farm track surrounded by fields full of sheep it really is very peaceful. There are a couple of holiday lets in the same location so you do t feel completely isolated. Lots of lovely walks on the doorstep and a nice base for day trips. Owners were very friendly and helpful, would recommend staying here.
Booked the cottage for a week with my partner and our two dogs. We had an absolutely lovely stay. Great location with plenty of walks, away from the noise of our busy lives, everything we needed for self catering. The garden was perfect however the fence is low in some areas so we didnt leave our large dogs in the garden without supervision and there are roaming sheep so do bare that in mind. Lindsey was so kind and couldnt have been more helpful. We definitely recommend and will be back in the summer for sure.
Sophie
Wow what a beautiful, rural location the cottage was, perfect for an relaxing, dog walking holiday. Lots of lovely walks straight from your door. The garden was enclosed and lots of area to run around in which was nice. The owner was lovely, friendly and was always egar to help with any questions. Although your in the middle of know where, once your down the rustic track its not far to get food top ups from Knighton. Would definitely come back again.
A beautiful cottage in a very peaceful location. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place for you. Our three kids and Springer spaniel loved the garden! The hot tub was superhot and we loved going in it every day.
Elaine
Wonderful cottage. Communication with the host was excellent prior to and during our stay. It was very much appreciated. We will definitely stay here again.
Monica
Thank you, couldnt ask for more.
We had a lovely time here, really peaceful in a beautiful location. Great dog walks nearby. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed. Looking forward to coming back!
We have just had a wonderful week at Ploony Cottage, The views were outstanding and the cottage itself was so rustic, very warm and comfortable, the piece and quiet was just what we needed, wonderful walks with the dog and easy access to places of interest and the supermarket. Definitely planning to return .
My Dad first took myself and my brother to Ploony over 10 years ago and for the last 4 or 5 years we've made it an annual trip every year! We look forward to our week of countryside bliss from the moment we book, and Ploony never ever disappoints. The cottage and it's surroundings are absolutely idyllic. The cottage itself is so cosy, always spotlessly clean and the hot tub is such a treat. There are lots of lovely walks for miles around you, and we recommend a trip to The Greyhound which is a local pub and one of our favourite trips out. Lindsey and Darren are incredible hosts, and always on hand and super helpful for anything you need. Cannot recommend a stay at Ploony cottage enough!

We had a lovely week in Ploony Cottage, but the awful track up to the cottage discouraged us from driving on it too often. We brought most of our food with us, so only visited Knighton on two occasions for fresh milk, etc. The cottage was comfortable, with a large kitchendiner and cosy sitting room. Kitchen was well stocked, with a few exceptions. We couldnt work out the heating controls, which meant we werent warm enough on rainycold days when it did work, it warmed up the cottage very quickly. The electricity went off one morning, which meant no Wifi and with no mobile signal anywhere we were isolated. We drove down the lane trying to get a signal but luckily saw a local farmer, who was able to contact the owner he came out within an hour and locatedfixed the problem caused by a leaky washing up bowl. Without the farmers help were not sure what we would have done. The garden, with the small stream, was ideal for the dogs, although they needed to be watched when a flock of sheep came down the lane and occupied the adjoining field. Two large bedrooms and one small bedroom, but only one wardrobe in one of the bedrooms, wasnt ideal. A second toilet would have been advantageous. We were surprised to read that we needed to clean before leaving and strip the beds, especially when we had to vacate by 10.00 am. Weve never come across this before, and whilst weve always left a holiday home as clean and tidy as possible, weve never been told that a bond of 150 would be withheld.
Gareth
As already shared with the owner, the quilt on the main bed was badly stained, the WiFi kept dropping out and the noise of the water pump was quite intrusive. Overall the cottage was nice and relatively well equipped, although would have benefited from a dishwasher and perhaps a sieve or colander to strain veg when cooking Finally, I would say that if as requested you dont want wipes etc put down the toilet, it would have been nice to provide small bags to put them in before they go in the bin for hygiene reasons
Alison
Pooly Cottage is in a beautiful location. Very quiet and a place to enjoy nature. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable. Loved the stone floor and big farmhouse kitchen. The hot tub was a bonus! The garden is enclosed and dog proof for most dogs except for Houdini terriers like ours so was on a lead. The walking in the hills nearby was fantastic need a map and compass as there is no phone reception. Presteigne was a great place to visit, especially the Judges Lodgings which still uses oil and gas lamps. Overall a fantastic holiday highlight was being able to see the stars in a night sky with no light pollution. Just lovely.
We enjoyed our 9 day holiday, the tranquility and the hot tub and the wonderful stream that entertained our dog extensively. All 6 human guests loved the comfort of the beds and the beautiful views from the bedroom windows. We loved the large kitchen and comfortable living room. When the barn has guests the privacy is not ideal as we could see and hear them, and they could see and hear us. The UV light that couldn't be easily repaired could have been a major problem but the bottled water provided solved the issue very well. The barbed wire on top of some of the garden fences could injure larger dogs, ours was OK, but he needed to be supervised when at the top of the garden. The track to reach the cottage is very rough and made us not want to go out much. Not a problem in a Range Rover, but our small car struggled a bit in places. It would be useful to know if the there is a schedule for the sheep and cows in the adjacent field, as we got trapped by about 30 cows when coming back to the cottage after a walk with the dog. Overall we will have fond memories of our time in Ploony Cottage and we thank Lindsey and Darren for their prompt responses to all our queries
Melanie
The pictures didnt do this gorgeous little cottage justice. The situation and surrounding countryside is beautiful. The beds were extremely comfy. Kids loved the hot tub. We loved the fact the hot tub kept them busy! I would highly recommend staying here. If I was looking for negatives Id say the kitchen was lacking a bowl for salad and a jug but thats really nit picking. We loved our long weekend. The owners were brilliant at keeping in touch beforehand and making sure we were comfy etc
This cottage exceeded all expectations and we had a wonderful holiday. We were 5 adults with 2 lively dogs and it was perfect. The cottage was located about 34 mile down a farm track at the end of a beautiful valley. This cottage is a traditional stone farm house with flag stone floor and rustic features. There are also 3 wooden lodges nearby but still private which I think are owned by the same owner. All look lovely too. What made our holiday was that we were treated to amazing weather and spent most of our time outside, The garden has a patio with furniture, a hot tub, a stream and plenty of lawn. There is a flat section where children could play. The gate opens straight into fields which we could walk the dogs in so long as sheep are not in the field. The garden is dog secure which was really useful for us. We spent the week doing local walks and visiting HayonWye and Ludlow which were beautiful. Unfortunately, the pub in Bleddfa has closed but we did walk to the Greyhound Inn in Llangunllo which was a lovely walk 2 12 miles and a nice pub with a garden. The Horse and Jockey in Knighton has a nice courtyard area and an old characterful interior. All in all it was just what we needed and we hope to return, although, I doubt we'll be so lucky weather the weather again.
Corrie
Ploony cottage is a lovely rural rustic cottage. The peace and relaxation is second to none and the mile longvery rough track is worth it. There is the one other cabin behind but what you don't get from the listing is that there are two more cabins up on the hill behind the cottage. You can't see them so doesn't impact on your stay although the cars do have to drive past the side of ploony cottage for access. We cooked every night and the kitchen has plenty of equipment. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return. Communication with Lindsey was simple and straightforward.
Had a great time and it was so relaxing. The cottage was lovely, clean and very comfortable. Lots of dinners in, open fires each night and a bit of Netflix. Couldnt be better. Thank you to our hosts. Would definitely return
Lauren
Lovely cottage, well equipped, beautiful surroundings, enjoyed watching the sheep pass by the garden, perfect retreat to relax and unwind.
We had a wonderful long weekend at Ploony Cottage. Excellent communication from the cottage owners. I loved sitting in the hot tub and looking over the fields. There's a real middle of nowhere feel, great for a holiday. The cottage was warm, well equipped and as described. I very much appreciated that the garden was fully secure so our dogs could explore the garden. We took a trip to Water Break It's Neck, about half an hour's drive away and well worth it.
Rhiann
Lyndsey was very accommodating, super hostess. Sainsburys delivered our food shop right to the door. A second fridgefreezer was an added bonus. We all loved the garden. Plenty of space for family to sit back & relax or play badminton. Running stream with fresh water shrimps. Plenty of nature to watch right on the doorstep. Hot tub was excellent. Comfy beds & cosy cottage. Superb
We had a lovely stay. Best future of the place is hot tube, what a treat after a long walk Big garden is well secured and it was perfect for the dogs to explore. ideal place if you are looking for quiet, relaxing stay and to be close to nature.
Beautiful location, very tranquil. The cottages fixtures and fittings were tired in places. However, we would definitely stay again.
An area of outstanding natural beauty & central to many places to visit. Owner very friendly and helpful. Property is beautiful & so very peaceful
Joshua
Lovely old cottage! As others have noted be ready for the long farm track but a great location for walking the valley see httpsexplore.osmaps.comroute3994292countrywalkingradnorforestbleddfapowys

The is property was set in a beautiful location. Very remote but there were a couple of other cottages behind it so you aren't completely alone. There is a gorgeous little stream running through the garden and birds galore singing in the garden. The views from the garden I could have looked at all day. It has a very relaxing feel. The property itself was spacious and clean if quite basic in facilities. The bedding was lovely and soft and the bed comfy so we slept really well during our stay. Only one small towel provided per guest which would have been fine but due to the hot tub it would have been nice to have a spare available. There is no signal at the property so unless your phone has Internet calling then contacting to report issues might be a challenge. I am on O2 but my husband on EE did get some signal in the garden. Also worth noting that no soft furnishings at the property such as pillows or throws. I love to cuddle up at night under a blanket or sit out with a blanket to stave off the chill. Would need to take my own next time along with spare towels. They also did not provide any free tea, coffee, milk etc but there was a bottle of red wine so it depends on your priorities! Overall it was a lovely stay in a beautiful location. Would definitely visit again.
Fabulous secluded cottage in the middle of nowhere brilliant. Ploony Cottage was lovely, cosy & perfect for dogs. The enclosed garden with stream was perfect for our 2 dogs open the front door & let them go safe. The flag stone kitchen again great after wet walks & the log fire wonderfull. Beds were comfy too. The hot tub was beautifully secluded & one of the hottest we,ve ever been in, although not all of the jets worked perfectly. Could do with some lighting around the hot tub for evenings would be a suggestion. Thoroughly recommended place to stay if you love peace & quiet.
Was our honeymoon, we wanted a remote location with beauty and thats what we got. The cottage is amazing, we took our pup with us and he loved it! Very secure gardens and wider spaces. Log fire, very well maintained hot tub. The bed was lovely and comfy and the kitchen is fantastic. All stone floor so really easy to keep clean after our walks. Darren and Lyndsey arranged for flowers to be in the room and they were lovely! Both of these guys were easy to contact and just a pleasure. We will be going back! John & Fiona
We had an amazing time at Ploony Cottage. It was exactly what we were after, a beautiful old farm cottage in the middle of nowhere! Lovely walks from the front door and other nice ones just a short drive away. Hot tub was perfect as was the log burner. Lindsey was incredibly helpful and very friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return.
Sharon
The house is set in a beautiful quiet location, and that was what we were looking for, nature at its best all around, lovely walks and scenery, we even had a blue tit knocking on the front door glass. The house was clean and tidy and the hot tub was perfect. There are a few new lodges built up the hill by the owners and I think the owners have been spending time on those, and now the house its self needs a little bit of tlc too. The road to the house is long and bumpy as previously stated, but if you drive slowly not a problem, we would love to return to Ploony cottage some day.
Our week at Ploony Cottage was amazing, the cottage was exceptional, well furnished and the garden was stunning. The local walks were great fun for us and our dogs, and a lovely surprise by our hosts for my birthday, we will definitely be back soon, highly recommended!
