Woodpecker Lodge Reviews

Kim Patricia
Lovely comfortable lodge with a little view of the lake. We enjoyed our stay and the hot tub. Good location too.
Lovely lodge in a great location, well maintained, modern with everything you need. Well equipped kitchen. Hot tub was lovely and checked each morning. Lovely view from the decking.
Vivienne
Clean, comfortable and stylish. The only negative, and that didn't bother me too much as we ate out most of the time, was the cleanliness of the oven baking trays.
Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing stay at Woodpecker Lodge. When we first arrived, it looked as if the lodge was as smart as the photos online. However, when we started to settle in for our stay, we noticed how neglected the lodge actually is. Firstly, the window in the main back bedroom does not latch and therefore, could be pushed open from the insidepulled open from the outside even if the handle was locked. Then there was the state of the hot tub... The canopy above was disgustingly filthy with mould and age, it looked horrible! Not only that, the back left corner had broken off so was flapping precariously in the bed weather we were experiencing. We managed to do a makeshift fix by tying it down with a bin bag but one side still remained loose, meaning that it collected rain which would then drip on to us when in the tub not enjoyable or relaxing! Finally, one speaker looked like it had exploded we worried for the safety with wires showing! AND the waterfall jet wasn't working. There was also a massive issue of most of the crockerypansglasses being filthy and requiring cleaning before using! We appreciate that it's the responsibility of the previous lodgers to clean before checking out, however, this should have been checked as it was disgusting to come to when we were about to cook on our first night. Lastly, and the worst problem of all, was that the gas oven stopped working during cooking of dinner on our second night out of four in total. The gas would ignite but the flames would not stay on, meaning we could not cook food. As it was a self catered lodge, we prepared for that and then were unable to cook. This meant we not only had food wasted, we also had to spend extra money that we hadn't planned on on takeawayeating out. The only positive note on the experience was the speed in which the maintenance team that came out to investigate within an hour of reporting. On a side note for the kitchen, we also noticed that the PAT testing stickers were out of date by a year! We were hoping that this was just a sticker error, but it was worrying nonetheless. Aside from the callout for the oven, we did not have anyone come out for the window or the hot tub canopy when we reported them on the first night, which we were also unhappy with. Luckily we had secured both in a makeshift way, but that's besidd the point! For the money we paid to stay at Woodpecker Lodge which was definitely not cheap!, we were incredibly upset with the state of the lodge and most of the service we received or more accurately, didn't receive. It was incredibly disappointing and in light of all the above, will look forward to hearing from the owner we can provide photo evidence should they need it with regards to how they would like to take this forward.
Lovely lodge with lots of space , lovely hot tub but could do with a new cover ... Lovely lodge with lots of space , lovely hot tub but could do with a new cover over it, also could do with new blind in the ensuite bathroom as its has seen its best days and also could do with a proper roasting tin only minor issues , we could definitely come back and location with the woods behind are fab for seeing lots of wild life

A group of 4 adults stayed in the Woodpecker lodge last week. The lodge was fabulous it had everything you will need with all the home comforts you could want. The icing on the cake was the lovely hot tub it was perfect after a long day in the lakes. The park is in the perfect location with bus stops right outside the park making it very easy to get around if you dont fancy driving. If you are thinking about booking a break here please do not hesitate it was faultless.
Michele
Great place to stay, launched our paddle boards from the site. Handy bar and shop on site, takeaways deliver and a great well stocked shop within walking distance. Very clean and comfortable, kids enjoyed hot tub and cycling around on their bikes.
Victoria
Amazing property in a great location. We had a lovely view of the lake and the lodge was very spacious and comfortable. it had everything we needed and felt like a home from home. Would definitely recommend it to others and would love to stay in it again. Only recommendation I would make is to have WiFi in the lodge as we was unable to use the parks WiFi as it was too far away from the main building but it did not spoil our stay at all
Beautiful Lodge with hot tub and everything you need for a perfect holiday. Would definitely return and recomend spotless and clean Many thanks
Joanne
2nd time we've stayed brilliant Lodge would definitely recommend .
Absolutely fantastic lodge, clean and well maintained, everything provided just need to bring a beach towel for the hot tub and a recommendation would be to install WiFi as signal is poor in the area but cannot fault Woodpecker lodge and cant wait to book again for next year.
Kirstie
Lovely lodge, needs a good clean on the outside and up around the lights etc. A welcome book would have been helpful and also would have benefitted from a list of things that wouldnt be in the lodge prior to arrival. My only issue with the lodge was the check in and out times, not getting in until 4 and then having to be out at 10 really left us practically 2 days down, and then i just find it really expensive for just having a base for 3 days. For this reason I wouldnt go again, found other parks that have earlier checking and or later checkout.
Graeme
Good location lovely lodge. Cleanliness wasn't too bad but could be better
We arrived at the lodge after spending two stressfull nights in penrith as our car needed to go into the garage. The lodge was ok a few minor problems. There is no wifi and very bad mobile reception so if you have children that want to use tablets or iPads etc it's a no go. They thankfully had a DVD player with some DVDs but we ended up going to a charity shop and the kids picked out a DVD each. The windows were quite dirty and also the table outside could of done with a clean or a wipe down. There was only one toilet roll in each bathroom so if your staying for a longer stay. I suggest you take some extra with you. Also the cleaning looked like they had only done the bare minimum and the main shower seemed to be really hot and when you turned it down the pressure of the shower would turn the knob so it would go hot again. Not great if the children are in there. The hot tub was great also the fridgefreezer and wine cooler were great too. The main bed was abit soft for me but my partner said it was comfortable. The lodge is set in a very quite area of the park which we liked. The boathouse restaurant and bar is about a 5 min walk so not to far altho they had alot of beersfood unavailable and it's a first come first serve policy but we got in quite quick. Overall nothing to extravagant and it was nice to relax after the first 2 stressfull days.
This is our 4th year in a row returning to woodpecker lodge, definitely becoming our home from home! As always the cleanliness of the lodge was excellent, bed was extremely comfy and the hot tub amazing! We are however extremely saddened that having looked at the prices from next year may now not be able to return due to the price more than doubling?!? As much as we love this place we really cannot justify this amount of money for just 4 nights. Heres to hoping that by some miracle the price goes back down to an acceptable level
Pamela
Woodpecker is a lovely lodge and well equipped. The addition of a tumble dryer would be extremely useful as trying to dry towels after hottub use was almost impossible couldnt hang them outside due to heavy rain. Due to limited kitchen space changing the washing machine to a washerdryer is the simple solution
Great location. Fab lodge and facilities.
Stephen
Not enough entertainment. My partner cut her fingers trying close the patio doors and then it took a day of phone calls and then an email to get them fixed. There were several windows that didnt close and lock so security was poor. The lodge was very clean and the hot tub was amazing. The site had very few facilities and we took two teenagers with nothing for them to do. Very poor communications when trying to organise a repair. Ruined my partners break with her right hand fingers plastered up.
Just returned from a week stay we had a lovely time. Lodge was spotless when we arrived and had everything we needed. It is in a lovely location and we would definitely return. Only downside was the lack of WiFi, its virtually non existent. It wasnt really a problem for us, but may be for some.
Christina
Fantastic cabin, great facilities. Hot tub was great and with the canopy shelter even better! Thankyou we would definitely stay at Woodpecker Lodge again
Trevor
The advertised complimentary WiFi does not exist and the excuses given by reception were lies. It worked in the reception building every time I tried it but never in my lodge. I was told to keep trying as it was probably because it was busy. This is tosh. It is obvious the lodge is in a blind spot. Advertising the lodge as having complimentary WiFi is false and you should stop advertising it is such. I will check that you have changed the advertising.
Shirley
This lodge is on a quiet part of the site with a good view of the mountains. It was warm, clean and well presented when we arrived with good quality linen and towels. The kitchen is well equipped and the decking was secure for our little dog. The dog walk is very close and was full of bluebells. We saw five deer all at once in this area. The showers were powerful, there was always plenty of hot water, and the extractor fans were functioning. There is a nice seating area on the decking and the hot tub, which was checked every day, was private, very clean, and covered to protect us from the weather. The washing machine was very useful to rinse and spin our costumes and swim shorts. We enjoyed our visit and would definitely book this lodge again.
Just got back from our 4 day stay, the lodge is beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice its lovely, it was lovely and clean also the best lodge we have stayed in the lodge had every thing you would need for your stay, spot on great break thanks.

The lodge was very clean and well furnished with all we needed. The kitchen area was excellent with plenty of cutlery, plates, glasses etc. We did like the note left by the cleaners informing who they were and cleaning performed. Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 4 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 10 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 15 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 18 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 22 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 23 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
