Westgate Reviews

Jacqueline
Great property it was our first time at Westgate but I wouldnt hesitate to return. House is in a great location, we had no problem parking near to the property, parking permit supplied by the owners. Spotlessly clean and very well equipped the owners have thought of everything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Bed very comfortable, lovely towels and bedding. The bathroom is amazing and also the hot tub is a bonus and lovely after a day out walking. All in all a great place to stay cant wait to return.
Great place to stay! I think that the parking restrictions could be explained more in the listing, same as the rules for the dogs in the gardenhot tub area. Despite the above this was a lovely place to stay and we really enjoyed our time here
Lovely little holiday cottage. Everything you need and lovely and clean. The only thing that lets it down is the parking and noise from the pub across the road. Especially on a Friday and Saturday night.

We had a lovely stay. Loved the house, children loved the bathroom. In a fab location, little bits of street noise but nothing to put you off having a great time. You can walk out the door and get anything you need from the street. Half an hour away from whitby. Would recommend this to anyone. We had an action packed weekend and enjoyed the hot tub at the end of the day. Cleopatra,s takeaway is a must. Cant wait to come back here. Thanks to danny and nicki for a lovely weekend and for letting us stay in your lovely house xx
Elizabeth
We had a nice stay up until we were leaving when the cleaner arrived early and stood on the front door step waiting for us to leave. Very intimidating and meant we couldn't have a check round the property to make sure all was OK. .we were then charged an over the top amount for additional cleaning. At 20 per hr it would take 7 hrs of cleaning to get to the amount we were charged. We disputed that anyway as I had done a thorough clean of the kitchen before we left so she didn't even need to clean that. Such a scam and we will never be using you again.
Matthew
Beds were particularly comfortable and the dining room was a lovely place to eat as a family. The hot tub was fantastic and the owners went out of their way to resolve any technical difficulties we experienced. Whilst there was some noise on the Saturday night with the live music, from the pub across the road this was not experienced the rest of the week. The welcome hamper was a nice touch on arrival. For an advertised dog friendly accommodation strange choice of flooring in the garden. Possible gate at end of seating areaedge of bar to separate from hot tub. A washing line would also be handy. Clearer instructions regarding recycling and check out would be useful. Parking was difficult at times and the van in front of the property didnt move all week!
Nathan
We had a lovely stay with our children, close to loads of places to visit,
Excellent accommodation and location.
Darren
Loved it everything so close pubs shops and loads off lovely walks. House was very nice . Or and Chinese next door is beautiful. Hopefully be back next year
Beautiful. Well thought out holiday home. Everything exceeded my expectations.care taken over every detail. Bonus ! Large tea mugs
Judith
Beautiful property with everything you could wish for. Guisborough itself is a great location, so many shops and bars. The Priory is interesting and Guisborough forest is amazing, best bacon sandwich in years! The pub opposite is noisy, you definitely need to consider this if youre a light sleeper, we may have been unlucky because the weather was fantastic when we stayed and that probably contributed to people being out late.
Stuart
Just had the most amazing stay at Westgate, a fabulous selfcatering property!
Lovely central place with lots of places to visit on the doorstep. My son loved the hot tub. Saltburn is well worth a visit. Whitby too but very busy. Welcome hamper was a nice touch. The bathroom was stunning, lovely place to relax after a busy day sightseeing. We will be back as we loved our stay!
Caroline
Good place to stay with our 2 dogs. Well equipped and very close to all amenities. Parking can usually be found directly outside property or a short walk up the road and there is a parking permit in the property for you to use during your stay. Our stay was perfect for our needs.
Phillip

Steven
Pleasant stay, no issues. Would stay again.
Property is good. Everything you need. Good location for town. Hot tub nice but not easy to get round the side to get lid off.The only problem was the pub across the road was very noicy. People outside until after two in the morning one night.should have slept in back room. Road also loud windows don't stop any noice at the front.
Joanne
Great place with everything you need. Clean and comfortable. Excellent location. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent accommodation. Only slight issue might be parking if you have difficulties getting in and out of the car.
Leanne
Westgate was an ideal base for out stay , home was lovely, comfortable, clean and had everything we needed and more. How was in an ideal location with plenty to do on your doorstep from a park to walk the fog to pubs, cafes, shops and historical places. Messaged the owners to pass info on and they were very friendly and responded quickly. People have left reviews about parking being an issue however with the permit we were able to park outside the house on a daily basis without an issue. It may be diffrent during summer months but wasn't an issue during our stay. Would highly recommend a stay here and would book again. Thank you for a lovely holiday. Leanne Ricky and Freya the dog
Property was amazing especially the bathroom. I would definitely stay here again. Everything was local that was needed. Christmas decorations were lovely. Couldnt fault it. If I had to have a negative it would be no lock on bathroom door. But thats it. Loved the place. We have stayed at cottages for around 5 years through Sykes and this is the best so far.
Vanessa
Great location, everything you need for your stay. Just needs a little TLC. A fresh eye to match furniture ,lighten things up . Put smaller chairs in garden rather than really heavy bench. Too small for large pets . Less is more. Bedding and beds excellent so comfortable and luxurious . Would stay here again but not with pet.
Great place to stay. Very central. Parking was the only issue. Would definitely return
Melvyn
A really good 'cottage' all the comforts of home, excellent facilities, wife & granddaughter loved the hot tub. Only a couple of complaints, initially the location, very urban, noisy pub opposite my fault for not prechecking the location better The other was only winter grade duvets provided, definitely not suitable in the current extremely hot nights, 100 needs summer duvets.
We had a fantastic few nights at the cottage. The photos do not do it justice. The house is very well equipped with everything you need, bathroom gorgeous and the hot tub was a lovely touch. Guisborough has all you need for supermarkets, pubs and takeaway, all within walking distance Lots of lovely walks for the dogs and very near to the coast. We will be back soon....Thank you
Sharon
114 Westgate is a fantastic property the photos on Sykes really dont do it justice. It is really tastefully decorated , furnished and equipped to a very high standard. Modern but also in keeping with the age of the cottage. The bathroom is brilliant and so relaxing loved the lighting around the bath. The shower was also excellent. The icing on the cake with this property was the hot tub . It was absolutely fantastic to relax in after an afternoon out walking with the dog. The whole back yard was really well thought out with benches artificial grass and colour changing lighting . Although NOT mentioned in Sykes description a parking permit is provided by the owner, it is on the sideboard in the dining room. This made parking easy most evenings we were able to park right outside. Guisborough itself is a lovely town with really friendly people. It has everything you could possibly need, Aldi,Lidl, Sainsburys , M&S and independent shops, pubs including Wetherspoons, restaurants, multiple takeaways all within easy walking distance from the cottage. We particularly liked Shurovi Indian takeaway restaurant. Danny the owner is a really nice genuine chap and he will go all out to make your holiday at Westgate enjoyable and one to remember. I cant recommend this cottage enough and will definitely be returning. Thank you Danny for a wonderful stay.
Westgate is a wonderful cottage in a lovely town. Its location is close to many beautiful towns and coasts. Westgate was very clean and well equipped. The bed was lovely and comfortable as were the sofas. The cottage has a hot tub which was a lovely way to finish the day. We wouldnt hesitate it recommending this lovely cottage.
Douglas
Lovely clean homely house which is decorated to be practical whether or not the guests have dogs with them. For example ,dark carpets and easy to mop kitchen floor. The outdoor space having astro turf leading to the hot tub is practical and easy to maintain. Having heavy curtains as well as blinds in the double bedroom made it dark to sleep well. The bed was comfortable. Further to various comments in the guest feedback book at the accommodation, the twin room blinds did not make the room dark to sleep. Therefore having dark curtains as an extra layer would be beneficial. It was useful having instructions for the TV which had been suggested by previous guests and actioned by the owners. We found the facilities to be relaxing with everything we needed supplied as listed.
Lovely little place on rhe high street. Lovely and clean nice sized rooms . Very well equipped everything looked new. Hot tub great space well thought out. Nice places to walk in the area town was nice lovely shops and eating places and pubs to drink. The only negative we had which was not the property or its fault parking is restricted. We parked when we arrived in the next street Cleveland Street less than five minutes . My husband found the permit in the property went to move the car and caught a resident pulling our wipers clean off which was not what we expected with such a nice area. Having said that it's no ref on the property and we would book again.
Anthony
Excellent facilities and close to all amenities Excellent walks close to accommodation would stay again
Rachel
Thank you SO much, we couldn't have had a better stay! Danny we have never met a friendlier or more helpful owner and the cottage was perfect.
Wonderful holiday cottage in a great location
The property was very clean and tidy and had everything that we needed for our stay. The Christmas tree and decorations were a lovely addition at this time of year. We would happily stay at the property again.
Tracey
Had a lovely stay. Cannot fault the place, the home had everything you need, was very clean and well maintained. Guisborough had some lovely shops, bars and cafe all dog welcome which was good for us. We used the home mainly as a base for getting out and about to other towns, etc we visited Great Ayton Had a lovely meal at the Royal Oak, Stockley, Whitby and Saltburn, all lovely. Would recommend.
Jackie
Westgate was a lovely property it was well maintained, clean and had everything that you could possibly need. This is set in a market town that has an array of shops, takeaways, restaurants and pubs. It is also a great base for visiting Saltburn and RobinHood's Bay.
This house was excellent to stay in. It had everything you could think of and more. The bed was so comfy. Hot tub was a real bonus. The bathroom lighting was amazing. Such a home from home in 114 Westgate . We would highly recommend this property to family and friends . Wendy and Les from Hull.
The welcome pack was lovely. The beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of space in this lovely property which is a home from home. The only downside is the noise from the pub across the road only at weekends as the front windows are not double glazed. TV set up instructions would be really helpful but the owners were quick to respond and very helpful.
Dianne
We had a lovely holiday, the cottage was a great base to stay in. Plenty of space for four of us and our dog. Easy parking nearby too. The only small issue being the cupboard under the stairs, which we couldnt open as the handle was broken. Apart from that we would definitely recommend.
Claire
Beautiful, comfortable cottage for a family of 4 in an excellent location. Great to visit local surrounding area. Would recommend
We loved the area lots of varied walks from coastal to moorland and hill. The accommodation was fresh and the kitchen really well stocked with a welcome basket of treats on arrival. Beds were comfy and the outdoor seating and hot tub were a treat beyond all expectations!

Flamingo Land - YO60 7EW

Situated in Malton in North Yorkshire this has to be one of our favourite family days out.  It's a theme park and zoo all in one stretching over a massive 400 acres. With thrilling rides for the very daring like Cliff Hanger, Corkscrew and Kumali, there are also more gentle rides for the little ones such as Frog Hopper and Helitoys.  Family fun attractions include the 4D cinema, the lost river ride and the Little Monsters Den of Mischief. Check out their website for seasonal events which take place throughout the year and you can also gain more information about the zoo.  Flamingo Land is a resort as well as a theme park so you can also book accommodation there.
The Grainary Wildlife Farm - YO25 3HS

Located in Harwood Dale Village, North Yorkshire we think this attraction makes a superb family day out and couples will also enjoy the nature walks in the area.  There are 6 nature walks in total surrounding the farm so walkers and lovers of the outdoors will be in their element. Some of our favourite walks include the Spring Flowers, Pond and Village walk which takes around 35 minutes, and the Meadow and Trees walk which takes one hour.
Yorkshire Lavender - YO60 6PB

Yorkshire Lavender is an amazing award winning attraction offering breathtaking panoramic views of York, a Café, Plant Nursery and Lavender Gardens. The onsite shops sells Lavender products such as bath and body treats, skincare, medicine and herbal remedies.

This is a recommended day out for families with young children visiting the Bedale area of Yorkshire.  Visit the farm and receive a warm welcome as well as a guided tour.  You will have the chance to bottle feed the lambs, bath a pig and handle some of the smaller animals.  Kids will love the big sandpit and the outdoor play area. There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.
Castle Howard - YO60 7DA

Castle Howard is one of the regions most beautiful and historic landmarks and is located in 1,000 acres of parkland with breathtaking gardens to explore. As well as exploring the castle visitors can enjoy attractios including the unique Land Train - the best way to see the entire park. There is also a large lake offering boat trips during the summer months. In high season the site is very popular with families and offers organised activities for children including tours, talks, crafting and animal encounters. The site also has a Nature Trail which is fun for the whole family and an Adventure Playground where children can run off some energy.
