We had a really enjoyable week at the Treetops Retreat. This really is high-end dog friendly accommodation. The retreat is accessed through the Barend holiday lodge site, but is surrounded by established woodland and very quiet and private. The owners live upstairs in the upper floors of Barend House and are really friendly and helpful. Great place to chill out. The Beagle pub is about 2 minutes walk away, serves good food and evening activities. So good, we're already thinking about returning.
David

Wish there was 5 + selection for this property as it was outstanding! We arrived early evening & the house was warm with a beautiful welcome hamper & to my surprise to then find our dogs very own welcome hamper which included bowls, balls, treats, towels & blanket. Bruce the owner is just a gentleman, so lovely & helpful. Beach, 10 min walk & The Beagle dog friendly pub was a 2 min walk. Couldnt have asked for a better time away, cant wait to go back hopefully soon. Louise, Scott & Arfield

From the moment we arrived at Treetops we felt welcome and relaxed. The Christmas tree lights were twinkling, the cottage was warm and there was a basket of treats waiting for us. The location is perfect and the view, out over the garden to the sea, is wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this peaceful, cosy cottage.
Lesley
Fabulous location with lovely views. Great beaches and walks in the area. The property is well equipped and comfortable. We felt at home from the minute we arrived until we reluctantly had to leave. We particularly enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub, admiring the views after a day out. The owners are a lovely couple and knowledgeable of the area. We w ill definitely be planning another visit in the future.
Wendy
My husband and I spent a wonderful week at Treetops. The cottage was beautiful with everything you could need, the owners supplied a much appreciated welcome pack and milk in the fridge for our arrival. The location is perfect with a stunning garden and fantastic views. We spent some days exploring the forest walks and the beach which is only a 10 minute walk away. We can't recommend Treetops enough, came home and booked again for next year, can't wait to go back. Thank you Bruce & Lesley
Alistair
Very peaceful spot with nice gardens, and helpful owners.
Colin
This place was top class and the owners were very nice. Bruce was very knowledgeable about the area for nice walks to places to eat. There was plenty nature going about the garden, from the rabbits and lots of different types of birds, including a lesser spotted woodpecker, we even saw the badgers after Bruce suggested to put out some bread. The ap artment was lovely had everything that you would need to have a great holiday.
gavin
nice place with everything we needed, very relaxing, location wise good for exploring the lower west of the Scottish coast. from castles to the forests, the beach to the golf courses. we were pleasantly pleased how venues were dog friendly.
Joseph B
Excellent setting, well equipped, fabulous holiday cottage for people looking to take their dogs with them. A true gem of a place.
Brenda
The location was very peaceful and great for nature lovers. Whilst only half a mile from the beach it is more suited to active individuals rather than elderly persons with mobility issues as it is situated at the top of a steep hill. The owners are very helpful.
David
Fantastic location/property and hosts
Alvin
Absolutely loved our stay here. Beautiful accommodation with stunning views and lovely garden. Very friendly and helpful owners. Had some lovely walks around the area too. We hope to revisit soon and would recommend Treetops without hesitation.
Gordon
My wife and I (and pet dog) thoroughly enjoyed our week's holiday at Treetops. The property was beautifully clean, very well equipped and very comfortable. We benefited from the thoughtfully-provided welcome hamper and, of course, the hot tub! The view across the Solway is stunning. It is very rare to find such a gem just for two people and pet fri endly. We would definitely consider a holiday there again.
Frances
A beautiful apartment with everything you could want. The only thing is that the garden is not dog secure so if you have an escape artist take a long lead to allow them to roam. We had a wonderful week with the best weather

We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ

Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Laggan Outdoor - DG7 3NQ

Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 24 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
