The decor is beautiful with high standard finishes and the cleanliness when we arrived was outstanding. We had a really enjoyable week at the Treetops Retreat. This really is high-end dog friendly accommodation. The retreat is accessed through the Barend holiday lodge site, but is surrounded by established woodland and very quiet and private. The owners live upstairs in the upper floors of Barend House and are really friendly and helpful. Great place to chill out. The Beagle pub is about 2 minutes walk away, serves good food and evening activities. So good, we're already thinking about returning.

This place was top class and the owners were very nice. Bruce was very knowledgeable about the area for nice walks to places to eat. There was plenty nature going about the garden, from the rabbits and lots of different types of birds, including a lesser spotted woodpecker, we even saw the badgers after Bruce suggested to put out some bread. We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.

Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
