Curlew Reviews

Really lovely hosts, great facilities, beautiful countryside. I knocked one point off for the road noise but you cant hear it when youre in the hot tub or in the property. Bowes is a great base for exploring the very beautiful countryside, youre pretty much half an hour max from anywhere. Lovely relaxing stay, thanks
Perfect relaxing week away. Exactly as described, but views even more breathtaking. Will definitely return. Sue & Chris were friendly and recommended places to eat and visit.
Property was lovely , clean very tidy , hot tub was lovely and warm , surrounding scenery was spectacular, owner very friendly , they also gave us a bottle of procecoo to celebrate our engagement . Will definitely be recommending to friends and family and definitely will be returning . Great weekend .
The cottage was excellent, the views were amazing ! !! The owners were helpful and friendly.
Louise
Extremely clean an comfortable, with amazing views, great for walking in the countryside

On entry , the log cabin has the Wow factor. After gazing around the interior , my eyes were drawn to the view outside . The cabin is perfectly positioned , to take in the panoramic views of the rolling fields , outside. We spent hours simply watching the array of birds , rabbits and sheep, literally on our doorstep. The icing on the cake , was the hot tub . We used it every day . We will be back.

We have just had an amazing stay at Curlew Bowes. We were extremely lucky with beautiful sunshine, however, this was a bonus on top of friendly professional hosts, very clean facilities and fabulous for our k9's. Our dogs were perfectly safe and enjoyed their beautiful view too! We have already elected to return. Strongly advise a stay here, locality perfect for venturing out and we certainly had nothing to complain about. Lizzie.
Fantastic, comfortable place with excellent views and relaxing hot tub. We will be back!! Hosts lovely
Absolutely fabulous week away. Owners were so welcoming and offered to store our frozen dog food, which was above and beyond. So friendly and knowledgeable about the area, with plenty on walking recommendations. The cabin was very clean and had everything required for a child out staycation.Would definitely come back.

We had a fabulous week. The photos do not do the place justice as they cannot portray the wonderful view from the property and the amazing calm way that stepping into it made us feel. Over the years we have stayed in many properties and Curlew counts as one of the best. The area is so picturesque, peaceful and uplifting. Sue and Chris were excellent hosts and could not do enough for us. We cannot wait to return.
Owners are very friendly super helpful, nothing is ever to much trouble. Lodge was perfect and provided everything you needed for a relaxing stay. The surrounding are beautiful and a most to explore and don't be afraid to drive and explore the coastline either. It is a break to kick back, relax and destress this is the ideal place.
Chris and Sue made us very welcome at Curlew Lodge set in beautiful surroundings it was quite central for our stay as we were out exploring the area every day.
Fantastic place and run by great couple so relaxing
Stunning log cabin, gorgeous location would highly recommend.
We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay here with our 2 dogs. The lodge was set up perfectly by the owners who were both helpful and friendly but not intrusive. The area is quiet but great for walking and the short journey to Barnard Castle is well worth it where you can find shops, pubs and more nice walks !
Perfect base for a weeks walking. The lodge was spotless and everything required in the kitchen was provided. The smart TV struggles and buffers due to low wifi strength but that's just a minor fault. Hot tub was cleaned and maintained daily and a good pub and a rather quirky but nice social club were just a 10min walk.
Tracey
Excellent break at Curlew lodge The owners Chris and Sue are so nice and were there with the keys when we arrived Its well equipped and very cozy The enclosed garden was ideal for our little dog to run around in The hot tub was amazing with lovely views We loved it so much weve booked for Xmas when we got back! !!! See you then x
The owners are lovely people, views are spectacular lots of lovely walks around the village. Local pub a five minute walk and Barnard Castle only ten minutes away in the car if you need any supplies. We will be booking again in the summer.

Had such a lovely weekend
Chris and Sue are a lovely coupleowners. I ended up going on holiday alone with my pet but I throughly enjoyed it and nothing was too much trouble. The Cabin and views are beautiful. Lovely to of met you thank you Julie x
Alison
The property was spotlessly clean and well equipped. Private. Beautiful views and lovely walks.
Graham
A little difficult to find as it isn't obvious which turn off to use. A little more info in the directions would resolve it. It's a really lovely property with lots of space and it's spotlessly clean. The property is also well equipped with everything you need just bring food and drink although you do get a bowl of coffee pods which was a welcome surprise The hot tub is cleaned before every new visitor and is very relaxing with a lovely view. The view from the lounge and raised decking is really lovely too. Lovely place to sit in the early morning and evening. Finally, the host is very helpful and accommodating and nothing seems too much trouble. The only negative regarding location is the pub in the village is closed Aug 22 so you need to travel 4 miles to Barnard Castle. Overall, a brilliant property with loads to visit nearby. The Pennine Way is only a few hundred yards away
Sharon
The place would benefit from a dressing table with stool and some tongs in the kitchen would be good. Maybe a small welcome pack. Amazing place for a total chill out.
Richard
Fantastic location and stunning scenery, owners were super friendly and hospitable towards us and our dogs. Hot tub is ace and well maintained, the wooden cabin is warm, cosy and everything you would want it to be. We will look forward to returning sooner rather than later.
Sophie
Had a great stay in a lovely location owners were really friendly and helpful and advised us on places to visit and walks we could go on nearby. Definitely would recommend to others. Easy to locate as well.
Fabulous cabin with great facilities and spotlessly clean. We had a wonderful time. Thanks Jason and Sharron

I spent the bank holiday weekend at this lodge with my husband and 2 dogs. It is a beautiful place with stunning views. The lodge was immaculate and far bigger than we were expecting. The hot tub was great. We were made to feel very welcome and wished we could've stayed longer. There are some beautiful walks close by. Bowes is very quiet so if you like walking, but not much else then this is the place. My only negative would be that there would've been somewhere closer to the lodge to let the dogs off lead. The lodge itself is very dog friendly and had a small area for them to toilet, but would've preferred them to have a run so we didn't have to get up and take them out so early. Will hopefully return soon
Enjoyed my stay, the owner was very helpful, facilities were good and the Jacuzzi was excellent. Thank you
Great hosts, loved the property! Hot tub was amazing, great facilities & well equipped. Bathroom was brilliant, loved the whole interior & design of the lodge. Super dog friendly, he had a great time as did we! There were some lovely walks right on the doorstep, highly recommended!
Great hosts and great facilities, hosts were very accommodating and were only a text or phone call away if there were any issues, which there wasnt. Nice location and dog friendly. Would definitely go again.
This is a lovely, wellequipped property with a wonderful aspect of the beautiful countryside which surrounds it and well situated for interesting places to visit. Our pup had a great time chasing the numerous rabbits in the snow. Unfortunately, our stay coincided with the aftermath of storm Arwen and we were with without power for the first three nights of our stay. It did not hamper our enjoyment too much however a camping stove and some hot water bottles helped! The owners, Chris and Sue were very helpful and kept us fully informed at all times. When the power eventually came back, Chris wasted no time getting the hot tub ready for us. It was much appreciated! We hope to revisit in the Spring and use it as a convenient halfway stop for a trip to Scotland.
Ashleigh
Such a beautiful place to stay. Was more than what we were expecting. Lovely walks for the dogs and local to shops. The only let down was the bed was no overly comfortable but other than that it was great.
Levena
The property was lovely and clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The views from the lodge were lovely. The hot tub was great after a long walk. We had a fantastic time and everything was so peaceful and just perfect. The host was friendly and helpful. We will definitely be coming back
Absolutely fabulous, amazing views, just what we needed for our mini moon after a busy couple of weeks. We will definitely be back!
Fantastic lodge and a great location. Accommodation was just as described. Hosts met us on arrival, and showed us around the lodge. Extra towels, hair dryer, limited tea, coffee and sugars were available on arrival.
Valerie
Chalet was lovely, with superb views, plenty of local walks. Owner gave us very useful suggestions about places to visit, restaurants etc. Hot tub was great. very well maintained.
Dorothy
Lovely and very clean accommodation in a stunning location. Attentive hosts ,without being intrusive. Very thoughtfull that nessesities to get you going are provided . Coffee ,tea ,toilet rolls, dishwasher tables etc Far enough away from it all but within traveling distance of shops. I would consider booking again late or early season. It would not be somewhere I would book in hot weather . The bedroom is incredibly hot even during the cool nights we were there . If air con was installed in the bedroom ,this would be a definite summer staycation for us .
We had a lovely holiday, Sue and Chris are brilliant hosts. The view from the cabin is stunning. We took our 2 Persians with us and they enjoyed the little garden. It was unseasonably hot when we visited so if you are planning on visiting in the summer take a fan. I believe they are planning on putting a freezer and washing machine in a communal area as the site isn't completed yet. Bowes village is great for a walk, the nearest town is Barnard Castle, lovely tea shops and cafes. Some gorgeous walks can be done right from the cabin as the Pennine way is literally opposite. It was a lovely holiday and we'll definitely book again.
Jill & Dave
Such a lovely cabin and met with such friendly hosts. Thank you Chris and Sue had a fantastic break. Highly recommend it.

Big Sheep - EX39 5AP
about 23 Miles
This is a recommended day out for families with young children visiting the Bedale area of Yorkshire.  Visit the farm and receive a warm welcome as well as a guided tour.  You will have the chance to bottle feed the lambs, bath a pig and handle some of the smaller animals.  Kids will love the big sandpit and the outdoor play area. There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.
Lightwater Valley - HG4 3HT
about 29 Miles
Situated in the Ripon area of North Yorkshire this popular theme park makes a fantastic day out for the whole family.  The more daring will love the big and thrilling rides such as Raptor Attack, The Ultimate and Trauma Tower.  For the little ones there are some excellent attractions such as Flying Camels, Dodgems and a Magic Wheel.  Toddlers will like the Dragon Boats and the Lightwater Express amongst other things. There are over 40 rides and attractions in total and we think this is excellent value for money too.  If you book your tickets in advance online you can save even more money and beat the queues.
