Jacob's Lodge Reviews

Fantastic property, no faults at all , 16 family members , young and old catered for . Hot tub and sauna perfect for a relaxing hour after a long walk in Teesdale , A great all round house , credit to the owners.
Stella
Lovely house. everything we needed , in beautiful setting, Hosts kind and helpful . We loved our stay here Lots to see and do in the area.. We will return .
Carole
The lodge was absolutely perfect for our family . .all 3 generations were catered for by the available facilities. The welcome treats though unexpected were a lovely thoughtful gesture appreciated by us all ! Everything you could need was available and it was immaculate throughout. We were all really impressed and nobody wanted to leave lol so we are all sorting schedules to return next year for a longer period of time. A credit to the owners who kindly popped in to make sure we were happy with everything not long after we arrived which was also really appreciated. If you are considering this property for your break away all I can say is dont hesitate you will not be disappointed!!
What an amazing place! It was perfect for a group of three generations, with the ground floor for grandparents and kids up at the top. Stunning views, two comfy living spaces, the amazing hot tub and games room, and a lovely welcoming pub just over the road. Really well supplied with all the kitchen kit you could ever need, and a massive fridge the only improvement might be another jumbosized saucepan for big dinners. Karen and her family were on hand to answer any questions. There's even board games and an excellent array of holiday reading on the bookshelf if you fancy a rest! I'd recommend the little walk down towards the village, along the brow of the hill and down to the beck for a wade on a hot day. Really delighted to have found Jacob's Lodge and we'll definitely keep it on our list for big family gettogethers. PS Karen I'm sorry we forgot to write in the visitor's book!
Jacobs Lodge was lovely everything you wanted for a lovey stay. Would definitely go back. No expense spared to make your stay comfortable. Family loved the games area, sauna and hot tub. Would recommend to anybody wanting a spacious comfortable holiday venue.
Jessica
We had the most amazing time at Jacobs Lodge, the facilities and amenities were second to none and the service didnt disappoint. The owners were friendly, reliable and couldnt do enough to accommodate. I will definitely be booking and staying again. This allowed me to make my 30th birthday so special and I will cherish the memories forever. Thank you
Beautiful house is fabulous surroundings. Our family all agreed that the house was stunning and clearly maintained to a very high standard. The only very small niggle was each day during our stay David came to visit unnanounced and we felt we were being hurried to leave on checkout day. The hot tub was drained around 9am despite the children still being in the games room playing and us not needing to vacate until 10am. Other than that we can't fault the property and would recommend it to other families for their gatherings.

Brilliant Weekend in a fabulous property with amazing views What an amazing property this is. So well kitted out for every need. Large open plan living dining kitchen area with floor to ceiling windows which faced onto a beautiful view of the countryside. Another living room with large TV on the next floor. Separate games room sauna hot tub area which went down a treat with us all. The smell of the homemade bread cooking as you walked through downstairs was a real treat along with the biscuits and cake left for us. David called over to see if everything was OK and just to give us a little rundown on various things around the house, a nice touch. The 7 bedrooms were all of a good size, 6 having ensuite bathrooms. There is a lovely large bathroom which is on the same floor as the bedroom without an ensuite. Lovely walks and a great friendly pub just across the road.
From the moment we arrived we were blown away by the house and its views. We were greeted by David who took us around the house and explained everything. The fresh bread baking away and other goodies in the kitchen were a lovely surprise!! We are a large family from 2 months old upwards everyone could enjoy the facilities and comfort they needed. The leisure block with the games room and hot tub were well used and enjoyed by all. The location 10 minutes drive from Barnard Castle was great, Raby Castle and High Force waterfalls were very close by and we had a couple of lovely days out. We would definitely recommend this house, the location and facilities were perfect for us, we will be back!!
We have stayed away many times as a large group of 15 people of varied ages currently 4 months to 79 years and Jacobs Lodge is one of the best properties we have stayed in. Especially liked the 2 separate living areas and the extremely well equipped kitchen. Nobody drew the short straw bedroom wise as all but one twin were ensuite and that person had exclusive use of the family bathroom. For being such a large property it was warm and cosy and the separate building housing the hot tub, sauna and games room was well used. Pub within 2 mins with good food and friendly locals was great. Owner called to make sure all ok first night and the cake, biscuits and homemade bread were the icing on cake literally. Will deffo be looking to stay again

Twelve of us, between 9 and 85 years old, thoroughly enjoyed Jacob's Lodge. It was very comfortable, clean and warm and had everything we needed. The views were glorious. The Christmas tree was an appreciated touch as were the treats on arrival. The owners were very obliging and could not have been more helpful.
What a wonderful cottage, well thought through and had everything to meet everyones needs. We were aged 7 to 70 and we all had a wonderful weekend. The weather was typical for December and yet were were kept entertained the whole time, whether it was movies in the TV room, trips to the hot tub, taking in the views or enjoying the games room the cottage provided it all. We had Sunday lunch in the nearby put which was nothing special but nice & went to High Force which was only 15mins away for a walk, which was beautifu, especially as there had been so much rain! Ive stayed in plenty large cottages and would certainly recommend Jacobs Lodge.

A group of 12 visited Jacobs Lodge in December and I have to say I could not find a single faultdownside to this place. So much so we booked for next year as we were leaving. Ground floor bedrooms are perfect if any mobility issues. All bedrooms except 1 have ensuite which I think is perfect for larger groups of people. Everything you need is available. Fully stocked kitchen and the huge Christmas tree was just a beautiful touch. Every room was immaculate, hot tubsaunagames room was just amazing. Owners were super friendly, location was perfect for us with stunning views. I could go on and on at how much we loved this place, but if anyone is having any doubts about booking just do it you wont regret it at all.
Absolutely beautiful property inside and out! Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The accomodation was perfect for our group a three generation family holiday. We had a wonderful weekend at Jacobs Lodge! The house is beautiful and was spotlessly clean. The furnishings are high quality and the bedrooms have a nice hotel feel. Being a group of 16, we found it so helpful thay each couplefamily has their own ensuite or could claim the family bathroom. And the size of the property meant we were never on top of each other. The owners have been generous with kitchen items so loads of crockery, cooking equipment, glasses, mugs. Lovely extras left for us too! And what we hadnt experienced before on trips was a dining table that could actually accommodate the number of people the house could sleep. Loved the open plan kitchenlounge so everyone could be together as food was prepared. But having a second sitting room was ideal so we could split up. The separate hot tub and sauna area was brilliant. Again, thought has gone into this so theres a toilet and shower plus sofas yet another great space to hang out. And the games room was great! Loved the arcade machine especially. Karen and her brothers were lovely and extremely responsive to questions. We will absolutely be coming back! Wish we had booked for a week!

Karen met us when we arrived and went through a few things with us. The welcome package was lovely freshly made bread. The beds were very comfortable. The cooking facilities were fantastic and a little stock cupboard. Kitchen sitting room area was fantastic for our family get together. The only thing for us was the stairs didnt have stairgates as we had 3 children 3 and under but ther was enough people to watch. The jacuzzi and games room was a favourite with the children and parents. The cottage was just everything we wanted as a family meeting area. The views were fantastic owners were very welcoming .
Alyson
Loved the extra welcoming touch of homemade bread in the bread maker, cake and biscuits. A beautiful home in stunning surroundings. Although we brought our own it was lovely to see that some condiments and cooking essentials were available in the cupboards. Our party thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the large kitchen, dining and living area allowed us all to be together in one place. Thank you so much.
Almost everything was perfect. So much was provided it would be difficult to find fault. The only suggestion would be to have blinds or net curtains in the two ground floor bedrooms facing the road. Our friends using those rooms felt they had to keep the curtains closed so as to maintain privacy. Otherwise, everything was perfect.
Alison
Great for an annual gettogether of old university friends of over 50 years. Fab views. Good facilities. Loved the hot tub. Wonderful weathernever seen Teesdale in walltowall sunshine before!
Catherine
Loved our stay at Jacobs Lodge, the owners have thought of everything. Great location.

Jacobs Lodge is an excellent property, clean and well equipped and maintained but why are there no shelves in the shower cubicles for placing toiletries? Very inconvenient One important reason for booking this property was its stated suitability for people with disabilities but the shower facilities are not safe for a disabled person. Proper cubicle safety requires a firmly fixed handle on the wall, a proper shower mat with a bubble surface and a bath mat to step on. My grandson managed to find a bath mat for me in one of the other rooms, but all showerbath facilities should have a bath mat for safety. While I would recommend the property to fit and healthy persons, as it stands I would absolutely not recommend it to a disabled person. As I am disabled, the above ratings mainly reflect this issue its pretty, with lovely views, but for me not safe.
Sumaya
Absolutely amazing lodge with really good facilities and spacious for big families. The owners were very friendly and available by phone whenever needed. Everyone really enjoyed it that we extended our stay with the owner and cant wait to come back.
The house was comfortable and we appreciated the goodies and the homemade bread but the photos shown on the Sykes website were misleading and we didnt realise we would be adjacent to a road which turned out to be quite busy. As we had a 9 month old baby used to a quiet location with us this turned out to be a major problem. Some of the party enjoyed the hot tub etc.
Thomas
We had a great holiday at Jacobs Lodge. 8 adults,8 kids had plenty space for everyone to enjoy .The hot tub and sauna was brilliant and kids enjoyed pool and games room.
Stayed at Jacobs Lodge on the 24th and 25th June 2023, for a surprise 80th Birthday Everyone loved the lodge, fantastic property, everything spotlessly clean, lots of space to relax in. The hot tub and games room proved very popular too. Ideal that there is a local pub,The Moorcock Inn, just one hundred yards away, very convenient for the men in the company to escape to, also very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend Jacobs Lodge, the proprietors were helpful and there for any questions or enquiries
Great holiday home with lots of space indoor and out. Set in a rural location with beautiful views over the valley. The welcome pack and homemade bread was a lovely touch. The house is well equipped and very clean. The 7 bedrooms are set over 3 floors with plenty of bathrooms. Added bonus was the games room which was great for the kids the adults enjoyed it to! and the hot tub and sauna. We were a family of 13 people ageing from 5 to 80 years and everyone agreed it was a great weekend
Elaine
Had a fantastic week staying in Jacobss Lodge with family and friends to celebrate my 70th birthday. The grandchildren particularly enjoyed the hot tub with its music and disco lights. The lodge has everything you could need and the surrounding countryside is superb. As its not in a National Park, the area tends to be much quieter than the Lake District or North Yorkshire. Raby Castle is well worth a visit. Lovely walks, quiet, pretty villages and lovely market towns what more could you want? The weather was very kind to us, no rain, not too hot. The only thing I would suggest is to bring along some comfortable folding picnic chairs as the outdoor seating is just picnic tablebench combination.
Nathanael
We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Jacobs Lodge, the house was amazing with great facilities, the owners were friendly and very accommodating. The views from the house were awesome! We would highly recommend!
Wonderful house for a large group with space to be all together or to find a quiet corner. Loved all the arty touches beautiful
Fantastic accommodation very clean, tidy and comfortable with everything you could need. Everyone loved the hot tub and games room ! The views were beautiful and it was a lovely quiet area. Would definitely return in the future. The Lewis family
This was our 2nd visit to the lodge and it is perfect for large groups and families. Property is maintained to an excellent standard, beautiful surroundings and had everything needed to enjoy our stay. Open plan living and kitchen area means everyone can comfortably be together, the owners are also close by if there are any questions or queries. 1010!!
Cathay
Holiday home was perfect. Really well equipped, comfy, very clean and loads of space. The only negative was that the WiFi was quite slow but that was a minor thing and everything else was pretty much perfect. Three generations of family all stayed and didnt feel cramped and the kids loved the games room. We looked for a long time to find a place which would suit what we needed in terms of layout and facilities like a table big enough to all eat together and I dont think we could have found a better place
Kathryn
Lovely property had a really good stay
I booked Jacob's Lodge to celebrate my Sister's birthday with the family. Fabulous property which exceeded our expectations.
Nathan
Full marks. Fantastic holiday home for all the family. Great views and lovely quite location. I would highly recommend this accomodation and hope to return in the future.
Felicity
Jacobs Lodge is an absolutely fabulous venue for a group getaway. We went as a group of 3 families with children aged from 10 to 17. The facilities were great, kitchen well equipped and most rooms en suite. The games room was brilliant and again well equipped. There is a pub just over the road which we visited twice, the food looked lovely although we didn't eat there. There are beautiful views from the back of the house and the area is great if you want to get out amd about.Highly recommend and we will be returning.
Had a lovely break with family here, nice Christmas warm up. This is my second time visiting the lodge and its a great space. So well laid out room for everyone, and most importantly plenty of bathrooms.
Leanne
Spectacular stay at Jacobs lodge, it had everything you needed and more! The hot tub didnt seem its cleanest but the lodge outweighed any negatives! It was beautiful!
Really lovely location, the house was amazing! We had a couple of tiny maintenance issues but they were addressed efficiently and promptly without issue. Would happily go again really enjoyed our week!
We had a wonderful stay at Jacob's Lodge. The place was in a spectacular setting and close to various areas of outstanding beauty. Karen and David were excellent in communicating the necessary and left us to enjoy our break. We thoroughly recommend this hideaway and are looking forward to staying there again soon.

Big Sheep - EX39 5AP
about 28 Miles
This is a recommended day out for families with young children visiting the Bedale area of Yorkshire.  Visit the farm and receive a warm welcome as well as a guided tour.  You will have the chance to bottle feed the lambs, bath a pig and handle some of the smaller animals.  Kids will love the big sandpit and the outdoor play area. There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.
Go Ape Northumberland - NE48 1NT
about 29 Miles
Go Ape! has really taken off and become one of the most popular attractions in the UK.  The Northumberland course is set in the stunning grounds of Matfin Hall.  Described as a high wire forest adventure this really is one for the more daring as the course takes place right up in the tree tops.  Giant tree top obstacle courses include ladders, bridges, tunnels and some of the country's best zip lines.  You will be provided with all safety equipment and training on site.
