Tilberthwaite Farm Cottage Reviews

Elizabeth
Excellent accomodation but this holiday was chosen because from the information on the website we were led to believe there was an enclosed garden for the dog and this is not the case which could have caused a problem, other than that everything was great including the location.
We had a great stay at Tilberthwaite. The cottage was lovely very clean with everything we needed for a quiet family stay in a beautiful spot. Thank you!
Nicholas
Lovely cottage with good facilities. Very cosy and comfortable Lovely stay
Rachel
This was a comfortable and well equipped cottage and the hot tub was a blessing after a day of walking, with beautiful views of the Fell. The location was stunning although the road to get there was interesting. Be aware when taking your dog that there is not enclosed area so be aware that there are sheep wondering free by the property. The garden area was not as the photo so a little surprised.
Absolutely stunning location and cottage. The cottage is fully equiped with everything you could possibly need. The hot tub is an added bonus which we took full advantage of in the evenings, it is beautiful seeing all the animals roaming too. I would highly recommend this property it is quite central to most locations, we tried the local pub that is recommended in the welcome book and couldnt agree more, had a lovely meal in the three shires.
The cottage is in a quiet position next to the farm on a well maintained road near footpaths. It is comfortable, charming and pretty with every modern facility including new bathroom, kitchen and efficient heating. Good wifi and Freeview TV. Spacious bedroom with lots of hanging and drawer space. Although the welcome folder had all the basic info with emergency phone numbers etc it was very untidy and should be refreshed. The walking maps were unreadable. 4 adults may find the cottage a bit of a squeeze the second bedroom has a very low sloping ceiling and the layout of the main room, although spacious, does not leave much room for the dining table. It is perfect for couples and families with children.
Jewel in a crown experience!
We loved the cottage and it was perfect for what we wanted. Great position to get to everywhere we wanted, and fab walks on the doorstep. Hot tub a definite bonus after the long walks.
We had a wonderful stay at Tilberthwaite Cottage. We arrived to a warm, clean, and welcoming cottage with a fire ready to be lit. The cottage was great, it had loads of amenities, and we very much enjoyed the hot tub. The local area is full of walks right from the doorstep and you're only a short distance from Coniston where there are shops and pubs. Would definitely recommend, we had a fantastic time, thank you!
Just WOW!!
We loved staying at this beautiful remote cottage. The scenery was amazing and the cottage is clean and very well equipped. I visited with my daughter, her partner and my 6 year old grandson. It was great being next door to a working sheep farm. Loved listening to the sheep and watching the farmer going about his day.We were all enthralled. The facilities at the cottage were perfect. The hot tub was a great way to relax in the evenings. We loved it so much my daughter has booked for us again next summer (I hadn't even finished unpacking!) We all cannot wait to return and we never wanted to leave. On returning home to the everyday hustle and bustle it made the visit even more special. If you're looking for a relaxing break in stunning surroundings and some lovely local walks, this is the place to go. Counting down the days until our return. 5*
Such a gem of a place!
We all totally fell in love with this place. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere and was just what we needed to switch off from city life and relax. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. As it is a working farm, the cottage was surrounded by sheep and we loved listening to them being vocal each evening. The hot tub was a real treat after a long walk. There were some beautiful walks straight from the door step. We were so sad to leave and would not hesitate to recommend this beautiful place
Stunning views, fabulous walks
A superbly set up cottage, with a wood burning fire and hot tub. Very well furnished. Set in a remote valley with stunning views and with walks all around, some of which Beatrix potter used to do. Close to lake Coniston, and amenities. You can do some wonderful walks right from the cottage, the views are amazing, you will need your camera and yes it loads. The hot tub is easy to use and very welcome after a days walking, along with a G&T. We had our shopping dropped of by Sainsbury?s as they deliver to here. Some of the local pubs allow dogs in and they have a wide selection of food of which is very nice and reasonably priced. This cottage does not have a DVD player but has free sat, only problem we found is that it is very spotty, we took an amazon fire stick so had plenty to watch on a night. You can but fire wood for fire from farmer ?5, we used to most nights as it gave a real homely feel. The kitchen is well set up with everything you will need, and it has a dish washer. Lake Coniston you can walk to if you are feeling adventurous but a bit far for the less mobile or elderly. All in all a wonderful place to holiday, stunning views and remote, will definitely look to book again.
Great cottage in a valley with lovely views
We stayed at Tilberthwaite farm in January and couldn't fault the cottage. It had everything we needed, the owners were friendly and the cottage was warm and cosy. Nicely decorated with comfy bed and sofas. Having the hot tub was fantastic even in January! Looks out onto the hills and sheep, and at night the stars were incredible. Perfect for a couple or a couple with two kids (there was a stair gate at the top and a door at the bottom). Bonus that it was a dog friendly cottage and great walking on the doorstep.
An excellent property in an ideal location.
Cosy and clean, facilities including the 'hot tub' where excellent. Road to the cottage is narrow and leaving after a night of a bit of snow took care. It was a great break, thanks to the owners.
Lovely cottage in a fantastic location. Clean and well presented on arrival, everything you could need provided in the kitchen. Hot tub a real positive after a day of walking and has great views of the mountains and countryside around.
Doreen
Children loved seeing the sheep they would sit and look out of the window
Robert
Such a wonderful property on a working farm, really lovely people in a really lovely place with all you could need in the property. I really appreciated using the hot tub after being on some long walks, it's a fab place and I'm looking forward to returning. Thank you.
The cottage is very cosy and location is excellent. A lot walking trails right outside the doorstep. The scenery is magnificent and you can just sit on the bench outside the house to see the world go by. Only drawback are extremely poor mobile network and wifi but these havent spoilt our holiday.
Caroline
We loved our stay at the cottage. It has everything that we needed, it was super cosy and the location was perfect. We did an online shop to arrive the day we arrived which was a good idea as there are no big supermarkets nearby but the local shops in Coniston have all the essentials that you need. We would definitely recommend to anyone who loves the countryside, walking and peace and quiet. A fantastic holiday.
Lovely location and nice cottage
We have had the most wonderful week at Tilberthwaite farm. Its been our first holiday away from the coast with our sons aged 11 and 14 and it didnt disappoint. The cottage is so comfortable and very well equipped and the hot tub was very welcome particularly for our youngest son who loved it after a day exploring the beautiful area and amazing caves that all start right from the doorstep. WiFi is temperamental and we had no phone signal but that isnt always a bad thing when on holiday!
Richard
Our 3rd time back to the cottage and won't be our last! So peaceful in such a wonderful location! Our 3 year old loved watching the lambs playing in the surrounding fields. Hot tub was amazing in the sunshine too! Lovely and clean as usual.
This is a very rare to find remote cottage in a stunning area of the South Lakes. You can easily park your car on arrival and not have to use it until you leave! There are so many stunning walks and cycle routes in all directions from the cottage doorstep. The hot tub is the game changer for us, its so nice to be able to ease the aches after a long hike on the fells. Ordering an online shopping delivery we use sainsbury to arrive when we first get there is a bonus. Weve loved our annual week here and booked for 2024. Our only request for changes. Maybe update the televisions as current formats are not really user friendly.
Cheryl
The location of the property is amazing and the cottage itself is beautiful , spotlessly clean and with excellent facilities. The garage pictured is now used for storage so parking for a second car might be an issue. Also worth knowing, the hot tub is at the rear of the property and there is no rear door so you have to go around the front which is on a footpath so in the interests of modesty and warmth a robe would be a good idea. There was no welcome pack the folder said due to covid ? not even salt and pepper so make sure to take essentials .
Theresa
This was a perfect cottage for our needs. Brilliant walks and views around the area. The hot tub was a total luxury after a long day out. All the communication and facilities worked perfectly. There is a great pub in Little Langdale which is about 45 mins walk away and the Landlady was very friendly and attentive. Great for dogs, our Cockapoo loved it and the farms dog Mouse was very sociable. The whole cottage was well laid out, presentable and very comfortable. Brilliant place and right at the foot of Weatherlam which is easily accessed via the road and car park. We had views all the way to the coast from the summit. There is a superb walk to Blae Tarn via fell foot farm from the cottage which you can then take to Great Langdale, the Sticklebarn National Trust pub Tea and Cake. Go along the Cumbria way towards Elterwater and back through the woods to Little Langdale then across the River Brathay to Tilberthwaite. 11 odd miles and stunning scenery.
Beautiful little cottage. Hot tub was amazing and just what was needed after a walk in the local hills
Hannah
We loved our stay at High Tilberthwaite. Its the most beautiful spot in a seemingly remote valley, but amazingly close to lots of the best bits of the area. We could have walked from the door every day. The cottage is just right for a winter or summer break, with everything you need for a really comfortable stay. And the hot tub was a delight after a day on the fells. Bliss.
Benjamin
Tilberthwaite Farm Cottage is wellsituated between Coniston and Ambleside, and is placed perfectly for many local walks and fell runs. The hot tub not shown on photos on the listing was excellent, clean and in good working order. The only downside of the cottage is that the WiFi is very temperamental often not working at all which meant we had trouble planning things to do and we had to cancel some workrelated meetings what a shame!. As an additional word of warning for anyone considering bringing work with them, there is no 4G nor phone signal in the cottage itself either. Everything else with the cottage was great with comfy beds, and plenty of crockery, cutlery and utensils for cooking.
Lovely setting perfect for us
The cottage was in the best position for the eager hiker, so spot on for myself, hubby and r Border Terrier Bertie. You stated the cottage was dog friendly but your information manual requested the dog to sleep downstairs for r own comfort. To separate Bertie at night from us would have coursed a very disturbed night. We brought r own covers for the bed and sofas. We could tell you had redecorated and undertook replacing the bathroom suite, which l thought was to modern for the lovely little cottage but this is a very minor thing plus very personal to individuals taste The main bedroom suite was alovely colour , one problem unable to use the dressing tables mirror because my hair dryers lead did not reach and the mirror was screwed down. The colour throughout the cottage was cream, it may have been a nice idea to have selected a more suitable colour for the main bedroom. None of the above hindered r amazing holiday. Loved the log burner and hot tub. The sofas were ideal to snuggle down at night after a long day hiking.
Robert
Exceeded expectations in every way. Such a warm, cosy property and much bigger than it looks too. Fantastic location isolated enough to get away from everything but close enough to civilisation if you want it! Amazing views and scenery, constantly changing in the different weather conditions. So many paths to discover right on the doorstep. We stayed over Xmas and arrived to find a tree up and decorated, which was so lovely and welcoming. An absolute treat to have access to a hot tub in the middle of the fells! A great way to start andor end the day we were in there most mornings before walking, and on return stargazing at night, feeling smug in the rain, and at times icy sleet! We will 100 be back. We actually miss it already. Thank you so much
Richard
Second time back to the cottage. It is just simply beautiful! Amazing scenery even in some wet weather! Hot tub is perfect for chilling out in. Only thing is the WiFi can be abit poor at times but everything else is perfect!
Sandra
Lovely setting. So much to explore. We ve walked. Discovered caves. Slate mine history. Open top bus to Grasemere. Alan Bank is a favourite visit. Coniston just a walk away with everything for everyone. Sit by the lake and or partake in water activities. It is our fourth visit to the Lakes. It is the best stress relief.
Natalie
This was our second visit to Tilberthwaite Farm Cottage, we love it there. It's fantastic for what we need and a great base for getting around the Lakes. Amazing to see Mouse again and to meet the new addition, Pig what an absolute cutie. The cottage is comfortable, well equipped and relaxing in the hot tub at the end of a day of hiking and exploring is an absolute bonus. Thanks for having us again, we hope to come back again soon.
Perfect place for relax, looks little different like on the pictures . We spent here lovely week. Lovely and quiet place, away from noisy cities. In cottage you have everything what you need, plus hot tub as something extra used everyday. Broadband was very poor but for as that was benefit. We walk around all days, views was amazing. We thinking about coming here again next year. Just dont believe navigation, read description how to go there and drive carefully. If someone thinking about going there, advise stop thinking just go !!!
Patrick
We absolutely loved our stay at Tilberthwaite, and the photos don't do it justice. The cottage is great, and the views from the hot tub not pictured online are absolutely stunning. It was the perfect way to unwind after a long day out. The location of the cottage is amazing, with loads of things to see and do near by, and great walks from the doorstep. I must admit I noticed a slightly odd taste to the water and so bought bottled water. My partner initially drank the tap water and felt a bit unwell afterwards. I don't believe it's a mains supply, so perhaps should be advertised as 'not for drinking'. My only other criticism is that there wasn't enough toilet roll, soap, or kitchen roll, to last a week, so we had to buy our own. This was not the end of the world, but I've never had to do that before in a holiday cottage, and it does seem a bit of a shame when you've paid so much money to stay. In any event, neither issue really affected our stay, and we would definitely go back.
Charlee
Amazing cottage and wonderful little break. Cottage is immaculate and has everything you need! The hot tub was amazing and location was so peaceful and secluded but with plenty of great walks from the doorstop. Would definitely stay again!
3rd consecutive visit to this cottage which says it all. Normally I never like to go back to the same place however there is absolutely nothing out there Inc other websites that comes close to matching Tilberthwaite Cottage. Its a culmination of the cottage, its remote and beautiful location and the amount of stunning walkshikes on offer from the doorstep. Recommend a visit to Yew Tree Farm round the corner which sells renowned meat produce reared on the farm Heritage Meats, Ive never tasted steak as good as that! We also used an app called footpath route planner which helped us to discover walks we never knew existed. Starting and finishing every day in the hot tub with its resident sheep and awesome backdrop is so memorable.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 4 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 10 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 16 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 19 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 20 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 24 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
