We arrived at 4 pm and a lovely Varie showed us to our property. It was stunning as was the situation, beside a river and at the end of Loch Ewe. Saw an otter and a seal first night! During our fortnight we had rain most days: even the locals said it is not usually so bad at that time of year. We drove out most days and often found drier weather. A stunningly beautiful setting by river Ewe and looking out directly on loch Ewe. A comfortable and warm cottage. Cooking and eating in a quirky shepard's hut was fun and cosy. The garden spa hot tub was a big bonus and very relaxing. A spacious cottage with a large bed and huge bathroom which made it feel luxurious. With some small improvements it would rate as a 5 star.

For my 3 months stay in Scotland, Poolewe and the Writers Retreat was one of my absolutely high lights. I spent two weeks in this adorable house and after leaving it behind, all I wanted was to go back! There is not much to do yes, but that was exactly what I was looking for. It is a retreat. It is quiet. The house and kitchen are with so much love decorated. And after a long walk through forests and over moorelands it is fantastic to end up in the well heated hot tub. I will come back!
