The Lodge Reviews

Had a lovely welcome from Jon and Mandy the showed me how things worked and they ... Had a lovely welcome from Jon and Mandy the showed me how things worked and they were so welcoming, the cottage was so beautiful inside and out really well equipment too, really lovely waking up with cup of tea in conservatory watching the robin and blue tits on bird table was lovely, really enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub too
Jon and Mandy and the kitties were warm and very welcoming they was very helpful ... Jon and Mandy and the kitties were warm and very welcoming they was very helpful and just lovley we have made such fantastic freinds with them nothing was a bother with them , The lodge was spotless and very comfortable it was very homely , the garden and the hot tub was Just superb , what a fantastic place to live it was our best holiday , thank you for the little touches you left in the bedroom and the treats you left for us , we recomend to everyone to stay at the lodge it was just perfect so thank you we cant wait to see you again next year ,we will miss seeing you all x
This property was advertised as pet free, but the terrible smell of urine in the bedroom and bed was unbearable ,the bathroom was even worse ,could not sleep in bedroom and spent the first night of our holiday on the sofa with windows open, when speaking to the owner in the morning after packing our clothes in the car he said he was very sorry and would issue us with a full refund after admitting they had let the previous people to stay in the lodge to be able to have there pet cats stay in the property resulting in such sickening smells,. On returning home after staying there overnight and contacting Sykes holidays the owner changed his mind about refunding the 463 and offered 100 as a goodwill gesture increased to 150 Sykes holidays were of no help at all and pushed us to accept this paltry sum beware of believing the property details shown by Sykes as they say it relies on the owners descriptions ,best to avoid the lodge in coltishall awful people not to be trusted.alan howard

Another enjoyable stay in this very comfortable and well equipped cottage, our 4th or 5th time of staying here. Excellent sleep in the very comfortable bed, spacious shower room and of course the hot tub is the icing on the cake! Jon and Mandy are the perfect hosts, friendly, welcoming and fun without being in your face. The only complaint we have is having to come home! We will definitely be returning again
The holiday cottage was lovely, and very comfortable, just like home. Mandy and Jon were great and accommodating, very nice people. It's a lovely hot tub. We will be booking again for our holidays next year.
Very nice comfortable cottage. The hosts Jon and Mandy are very helpful and friendly. There are some lovely walk around Coltishall and good restaurants. The local shop is stocked with basic food and has a cash point . I can not drive so relied on public transport. There is a regular bus service going to North Walsham or Norwich during the day but not in the evenings. Unfortunately the bus stopped running during my stay due to the bridge being closed for the week and a big thank to Jon for the help to get me from A to B. The cottage is located on a busy road which not safe to walk on but there is a quiet back lane that goes to the river at Coltishall or the bure valley railway. There is lots of wildlife around and walking on a bridleway just a short distance from the cottage and I had delight of a deer walking by me and the next day a fox. I really enjoyed my stay at cottage. The is plenty to do around Coltishall and for those with a car it is well located for the Norfolk Broads and Coast.
A lovely little cottage which I was able to negotiate well due to the fact I am mobility impaired. A little over furnished with sagging sofa in the main room by TV, which made it somewhat difficult for me to easily sit and get up and down, something firmer would have been better. Kitchen facilities good, and our hosts were very friendly and as well as coming to greet us when we arrived left a welcome pack which was lovely. Would well recommend. Good central place for visting NT properties, the beach, nature reserves and even a private garden.
Jon and Mandy were very welcoming, everything was there even a welcome pack including a bottle of wine to enjoy in the hot tub, fabulous! I would certainly recomend the Lodge for a fantastic stay.
Michael
Lovely lodge to stay in everythink you needed in lodge owners very nice and helpful about places to visit and eat at
Louise
We had a really comfortable stay at the Lodge. We just wish we could have stayed longer. Everything we needed was provided plus lots of little extras. The hot tub was a fabulous addition. The lodge is actually very private despite being in the grounds of the owners home and garden. We met the owners who were very welcoming. We would love to return, maybe when the weather is better so we could make use of the pretty outside space. The Lodge is well placed for getting to the Broads, coast and countryside.

We had an amazing time, it was a lovely little get away. Jon and Mandy were both so welcoming, they explained everything and couldnt have been more helpful. They left us a perfect little hamper of things and put a lot of thought into making sure everything that was needed was at our disposal. The cottage was spotless and cozy. The facilities were perfect for disabled people they even had a shower seat for us, It made our anniversary. There were so many thoughtful things like slippers, dressing gowns. soaps, water by the bed everything you could think of. Thank you both so much for your hospitality we will certainly be back it has become our new get away. Bradley & Ashleigh
We really enjoyed our long weekend break at the lodge. Accommodation was great and very well presented with everything you need for your stay, the hot tub is a great bonus and the hosts made as feel very welcome.
We were looking for a last minute and much needed weekend away and this property caught our eyes. As soon as we booked we had a very informative email from Jon who unfortunately we didnt get to meet as was away. On arrival we were met by the lovely Mandy who made us feel very welcome and showed us everything we needed to know. She had turned on all the heating to make it cosy as was a very cold evening and showed us the hot tub which was all ready to go. The Annex was the most perfect place for us and exactly what we were looking for they have thought of everything you could possibly need and more! We very much enjoyed the complimentary bottle of wine whilst soaking in the amazing and private hot tub in the evening again, was all so perfect flip flops, gowns, towels & fairy lights! What more could you ask for! Thank you both so much for a beautiful weekend and being the perfect hosts. We will definitely return one day x
Our stay at the lodge was lovely. We booked a very last minute stay and Jon was very accommodating. The welcome basket was really appreciated and a lovely touch. We had a lot of our own privacy both in the lodge and hot tub. Will definitely be staying again. Thank you Jon & Mandy.
Samantha
Really genuine and warm welcome. Jon and Mandy went above and beyond with supplies, from a variety of jams and even Marmite, along with tea selection, coffee and decaffeinated coffee. The stay was like a home from home. Was a fantastic stay and we really appreciated every little detail. We were not disturbed by traffic, it was very light at night. All in all a great and relaxing atmosphere. Thank you both for your hospitality.
The accommodation is excellent. The owners have thoughtfully provided guests with the basics necessary to get the holiday off to a flying start and the complimentary bottle of wine was well received. I have no reservations when recommending this property highly. Steve.
We have just returned from a lovely weeks holiday staying in The Lodge Annex. It is a comfortable home from home accommodation with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. The welcome pack was very generous to start our visit. The annex is set in a lovely garden in the countryside. The owners Jon and Mandy were away but kept in touch to ask if we needed anything which was appreciated. The area is a delight to explore, Norfolk is beautiful. Thank you Jon for making us so welcome.
Andrew
Weve just had a wonderful 5 days at The Lodge. Amanda, the host was lovely and was onhand if we needed her. The Lodge itself was very comfortable and had everything we needed. A much appreciated welcome pack was waiting for us which contained all the essentials. All in all, a lovely relaxing break which we would love to do again.
Lovely place to stay with neighbourly owners. Really appreciated the welcome email.a couple of days beforehand telling us about keys, welcome pack etc. The Annex has everything you could wish for in terms of a home from home, and wel equipped for selfcatering The hot tub is situated to the rear of the owners home but we had exclusive use of it throughout the week and It is sheltered and and can be private. The Annex is well situated for visiting the Broads and the Norfolk coast, as well as Norwich.
I found it very disappointing that the dishwasher was not working when we arrived and was still not working when we left. The property was very nice but the traffic noise was bad especially at night.
Barbara
All holidays are good, it's just that some are better than others, and this week has been one of the best of it's kind. Many thanks to Jon and Mandy for making us feel so welcome, and for providing us with so many 'extras', from the welcome pack and wine, to flipflops and robes for the hot tub, to the use of a barbecue... the list goes on. Many thanks also to the two cats, Mabel and Eric, who also helped to make our stay so enjoyable. We've enjoyed some great days out, but you can't do everything in just a week, so, as many others before us have written We will return! Graham and Barbara Chappell
We really enjoyed the lodge it was very comfortable and cosy, with a beautiful garden to sit and relax in. It was a pleasure to meet Jon and Mandy who were very helpful with lovely places to visit. We would certainly return again in the near future.
Valerie
Very comfortable and well equipped. Excellent location, hot tub was a bonus. Owners were very pleasant and helpful. We did find the road noise at night annoying. But overall very good.
Graham
Great 3 day stay, ideal 2 person getaway, brilliant hot tub.
Had a wonderful time at this lodge. Jon and Mandy were great hosts, even supplying some food and drink. The hot tub is very relaxing after a busy or restful day. Great location. Would recommend.
Hosts were very welcoming. The cottage had everything that was needed even flip flops to walk to the hot tub. We were fortunate and had a sunny week to sit on patio and look at the beautiful garden.
Jon & Mandy were very welcoming, the property had all we needed for a very enjoyable stay, everything was of a high standard both cleanliness and comfort. The hot tub was an added bonus. The cottage is in an ideal spot for local sightseeing and had the bonus of excellent restaurant's in Coltishall so we did not have to go far for good food. We hope to go back either later this year or for the same week next year.
We had a lovely stay at the Lodge, located in a perfect spot for exploring Norfolk and beyond. Seeing the hundreds of seals Horsey Gap was an incredible experience and would not hesitate to recommend a visit there! Jon was the perfect host sending us an email before we got there with everything we needed to know before we arrived which was much appreciated! We have already recommended to family and friends and will certainly return at some point in the future!
Andrew
Lovely owners and property in general. If I had any small issues I think the lack of water pressure in the two sinks would be first, secondly the bathroom sink mirror was awkward. Finally maybe thin out the amount of furnishings in the property although thats probably just my thoughts otherwise a vey nice break at the premises so would highly recommend
The property was beautiful and had a great atmosphere about it. Jon and Mandy made us feel right at home. The lodge is in the perfect location not far from everything. The hot tub is great and a lovely way to relax after a days exploring. I could not fault the lodge, it had everything we needed and more. We will definitely be returning. Not to mention the surprise visits from their cat Eric such a cutie and so friendly. I would recommend the lodge over and over because it was great
Matthew
The Lodge represents a good value way of spending a week exploring Norfolk and being able to come home to enjoy private use a hot tub each day. The hosts provided a helpful welcome pack to get you started both in terms of things to do see but also a few food & drink items toiletries.
A beautiful property and well located. Very cozy and comfortable and within easy reach of amenities and good walks. The owners greeted us and were more than helpful, explaining the operation of a most impressive hot tub!!!! Complementary wine, bread and kitchen essentials were available on arrival. Altogether a perfect break and would certainly return. Many thanks.
Absolutely perfect get away. Kind and friendly greet, very clean and tidy. Here has Absolutely everything you would need, so cosy and private.
Alison
Stunning property that offered everything we needed. Very comfortable bed. It is close to a busy road but it really wasnt a problem. The owners are lovely and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. The hot tub was a very welcome extra and a lovely way to end the day. We wouldnt hesitate in booking again.
We were most impressed with the Lodge. A really nice place and nice people . Would recommend it to anyone .
Stewart
Made to feel very welcome on arrival the lodge very well presented and comfortable enjoyed our stay
Stepen
Very clean well equipped accomodation. Friendly, welcoming people. We would stay there again. Totally recommended.
Michelle
Warm welcome given. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was provided in the annex. Easy access to places of interestplaces to visit in Norfolk. Lovely garden setting, with use of hot tub available.
This was our third visit in as many years and the Annex has lost none of its appeal. Everything was great, the cottage, the location, the wonderfully friendly hostsowners and even the weather. We had a fantastic week, so much to do nearby so travelling was not a big deal, plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. We also had time for some relaxation and had many cream teas in the garden of the Annex, thanks largely to the wonderful sponge cake that met us on arrival. We will definitely be back.

Attractions Near The Lodge

While there'll be plenty to keep you entertained an The Lodge itself, if you plan to get out and about and see some of what Norfolk has to offer, here are some of the nearby attractions you can enjoy during your stay. Please note that some of these activities and days out are paid and it's always a good idea to book in advance to secure your place where applicable.

Found a special day out near your cottage? Please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too!
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 4 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 11 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Sheringham Park - NR26 8TL
about 14 Miles
The National Trust Sheringham Park in Norfolk was designed by Humphry Repton and the book of original designs can still be seen. The park has many attractions including a viewing tower and a gazebo with amazing coastal views, wildlife trails which young children will love and an exhibition barn where visitors can learn the history of the park.
Bishops Boats Seal Trips - NR23 1RY
about 20 Miles
This is a really unique attraction running daily seal watching trips from the middle of March right through to the end of October.  The experienced skippers will lead you out on one of the traditional wooden boats where you will have the chance to see both common and grey seals.  If you love animals then this is one attraction not to be missed! They also do some boat trips combined with guides on dry land such as seal watching combined with a visit to Blakeney Point Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust.  We think this attraction is excellent value for money as they keep their admission prices low.
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens - NR21 0LN
about 21 Miles
if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park - NR32 4TZ
about 22 Miles
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is an amazing 50 acres area of stunning coastal parkland and is packed with family friendly rides and attractions. This park is an excellent choice for families with children of varied ages as there are a number of small rides for the little ones as well as some adrenaline boosting white knuckle rides for teenagers. As well as rides the site hosts some fantastic shows including the ever popular Sea Lion and Parrot encounters. At Halloween, Christmas and Easter other themed shows can also be enjoyed.  The site also has a good range of places to eat and drink whether you are looking to spend a leisurely hour relaxing with a meal or just grab a quick snack.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 22 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE
about 25 Miles
This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
Africa Alive - NR33 7TF
about 26 Miles
Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.
