The Hayloft Reviews

We were met on arrival and shown around all of the facilities, very pleasant lady, the Doggy Paddock was very handy for letting our dog off lead! Very pleasant place to stay, with plenty to see and do in the vicinity, thanks to the owners whom added to the holiday experience!

S0 dog friendly cottages and grounds great hosts Allways a hour drive to be beach but we did ot mind
Lovely property and very comfortable and clean. The facilities were first class and the owner Karen was very informative and helpful. There was plenty of leaflets available for places to go and things to do. The garden areas were amazingly kept and some agility equipment for the dogs which was great. It was peaceful and idyllic. I can only say a big thank you to Karen for sorting the slight problem with the electrics and making our holiday memorable. We will definitely go back again.
Fabulous cottage, extremely dog friendly, we were made to feel extremely welcome. The garden was a safe place for our 4 dogs, one of whom is an escape artist and had there been an escape route she would have found it! The cottage was beautifully presented. We all enjoyed the paddock, the grandchildren enjoyed the swings and the dogs the agility feature. Thanks Karen for the warm welcome.

Had a fabulous relaxing 3 night break. The owner was so welcoming and helpful. Always on hand when you needed anything. Even had coffee, milk and cake in so you could have a relax when you got there. Perfectly dog friendly with throws for the furniture and a wash station for after muddy walks. Honestly could not have asked for more.
Anthony
A lovely warm, cosy cottage. The owners too were warm and welcoming. Use of the hot tub was a bonus on cold wet days. Kitchen was well equipped and beds comfortable. Dogs are made very welcome too. Would definitely recommend.
Louise
A lovely festive stay at the Hayloft whilst we visited family, cottage was complete with tree and some decorations. Very peaceful location and superbly dog friendly. Throws for the sofas were provided so that our puppers could lounge next to us as they do at home, which we greatly appreciate as some places we've been have forbid it and we had to sit on the floor with them to snuggle! The lil enclosed garden was great and secure and the pups loved sniffing all the plants. Only thing we would have liked is if the paddock was secure because our gal Arwen is an escape artiste so we couldn't let them off in there unfortunately, but it was still great to walk them around on lead anyway. Many thanks, and hopefully we'll be back again next year! xx
Philip
Nice warm cosy cottage.
Stephen
A lovely place convenient for all the natural attractions in Norfolk. The paddock is a real bonus for those with dogs.
This is one of the best holiday lets I have stayed in with my dogs. It was perfect for them a safe enclosed garden then access to the large paddock for off lead exercise. Dogs were made very welcome including throws for the sofas and water bowl in kitchen. Karen was a great host and made sure we were ok and had everything we needed. We will definitely return and explore more of the surrounding areas. Would highly recommend this property.
We enjoyed our stay at the Hayloft. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped with everything we needed. The property is very dog friendly and our dog really enjoyed his stay too. Thanks to Karen and Stuart for being excellent hosts. We would definitely like to return again soon!
We were both over whelmed with the Hayloft , the greeting on arrival was so welcoming . It was the perfect holiday so peaceful and just what I needed after loosing my dad 3 days before our holiday. The Hayloft was stunning , clean and there wasnt one thing we needed . The paddock was perfect for our four dogs who just love to run and run . It was the first holiday away in taking all four rescue dogs but we really shouldnt have worried as Karen and Stuart had thought of everything for them to have fun too . Even an outside shower with towels and shampoo which was amazing after muddy walks . We hope to revisit within the year with other family members and cant wait to return. I couldnt express enough if you are hesitating in booking this holiday you truly have no worries . Book now for a wonderful break and high standards of hospitality too . Thank you Karen and Stuart for everything hope to see you soon . Shelley and mark . May 2023

Karen the owner had thought of everything. The cottage was beautiful with lots of original features but was warm and cosy. The cottage had more than enough room for 4 people we were two adults with two large dogs. The cottage was well equipped with everything you may need, especially within the kitchen. The paddock was just PERFECT!! The way that a path had been cut into the wildflowers became a race track for our male Dobbie! Was the perfect home from home. Will 100 be back.
Adrian
An absolutely beautiful cottage and every need catered for. Dogs had a great time as did their owners
Thank you for a fabulous holiday, we loved everything about it and will be back for another stay , you have everything you want and more .
Elaine
An excellent property. Karen is a great host. The property is clean and well equipped and lovely and warm too. The children and the dog loved the paddock. A great week away. Id highly recommend.
Amanda
This is by far the best accommodation we have stayed in, although all Syke's cottages are to a high standard. It was beautifully clean and well equipped. An indulgent chocolate cake to welcome us. Karen the hostess was always at hand if needed, but never a nuisance. A hot tub at the end of the day overlooking the paddocks, to ease the aching feet after lovely long walks. We will definitely be back.
Claire
Absolutely amazing stay. The owners have thought of every little detail to make you feel comfortable and at home. The cottage is beautifully appointed, dogs have every comfort and hot tub was wonderful.
Carole
We loved the comfort and homeliness of the Hayloft. The accommodation was superb big comfy beds and crisp white bed linen, instant piping hot water huge freestanding bath filled in no time! Kitchen had everything we needed utensilwise, and three great sinkin sofas to relax in in the lounge. The location was excellent and the owner, Karen, was a genuinely lovely, friendly person. We were able to put the kitchen scraps to good use by feeding the ducks and hit on lucky with the time of year as there were loads of blackberries and sloes ripe for picking! We also made good use of the hot tub which was a real treat.
Fantastic welcome from Karen and Stuart. Beautiful cottage, well appointed and really dog friendly. They have thought of everything to make life comfortable. Thoroughly recommend the Hayloft, even the most difficult to please person would have problemsin finding something to complain about
Adrian
The Hayloft was exceptional. Ideally located to visit the local areas. Totally dog friendly. Our Max & Autumn loved the paddock. All cottages have there own enclosed garden for dog and child safety. Overall the best cottage we have ever stayed in.
A beautiful cottage in idyllic location. Incredibly relaxing, we all had a wonderful time and would love to come back again!
Annette
Mill Cottages are lovely and brilliantly well run by the owners.
Victoria
A really comfortable and cosy cottage with enormous and comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, spacious living room and very generous and helpful hosts who gave us some good ideas about what to do with our two small kids. Our kids enjoyed running around in the paddock. Hot tub was a treat as well.
Karen went out of her way to be friendly and helpful. Everything was very Covid secure and the dogs absolutely loved the paddock and agility set up. The hayloft is very cosy . My only comment would be that the cooker hood set at eye level is a bit of a hazard if you are self catering!!!
Alessia
Perfect set up for a holiday with multiple dogs
Katherine
The cottage was very comfortable, clean and everything we needed. The gardens and meadow were lovely to sit and stroll in. The dog loved the ducks. The hosts were lovely, always at hand for any help and ideas where to visit.
Nothing too much trouble from owner Karen, fresh eggs & looked after puppy whilst we enjoyed day at beach
Fantastic holiday and karren couldnt do enough for us. Thank you so much
Lorraine
Karen is an amazing lady made us and our 4 dogs very welcome
The cottage was just as described and advertised in the pictures. The hot tub is lovely and if you choose to go in it at night it has fairy lights and an outdoor heater which is a lovely touch it is more than big enough for the four guests staying in the Hayloft so if you book it for private use, it is very spacious and makes for a lovely evening. The Hayloft lounge has three sofas which made for a really spacious and comfortable communal space we were four adults and two dogs and we had lots of room to relax. The log burner is a lovely touch and gives it a really cosy feel. The owner had put up and decorated a real Christmas tree which was such a lovely surprise to walk in and see. The bedrooms are large one is massive. Really comfy beds, plenty of storage, complete peace at night. The bathroom is spacious and clean with a great shower. Having our own fenced off paddock for the dogs was ideal and the dog agility space gave them plenty of space to run around and socialise with the other visiting dogs. There is a pub about a 20 min walk away not all of this is paved so not that easy to walk in the dark but the cottage does provide a torch. There are other pubs within a short driving distance that we went to on the Sunday for food as the pub near the cottage stops serving food on a Sunday past 1.30pm. Would be great if bathrobes and slippers were provided for the walk to the hot tub I think other cottages may offer this as the welcome book mentioned it but we could not find these in the Hayloft. But that is a tiny suggestion as otherwise everything was great would definitely recommend.
We have now been taking our dogs on holiday for the past 5 years and this has by far been the nicest cottage we have stayed in. From a spacious lounge with plenty of seating to unbelievably large and comfortable beds. Every room is tastefully decorated and has kept its cottage feel. A perfect place to take your dogs with a large paddock area for them to run loose in and outdoor washing facilitys for when they get mucky. Throw in the hot tub and log burner and what more could you possibly ask for? The owner Karen is extremely friendly and helpful and we certainly would recommend this cottage to our friends. The only thing we would have liked is walks on the doorstep or around the village, but there are so many places to visit to take our dogs walking within a 30 or 40 minute drive that even that wasnt a huge negative.
Great lovely cosy cottage, very nicely furnished and very comfortable . Massive thumbs up from us.
Fantastic facilities and the most dog friendly holiday accommodation I have stayed in. Both family and dogs loved it will definitely return!
Andrea
A very pleasant place to stay for a few days, the dog particularly enjoyed the ... A very pleasant place to stay for a few days, the dog particularly enjoyed the safe paddock to run around in location is excellent for forests and beaches are within an hours drive and well worth that drive
The cottage is on a blind bend quite a busy road so have to be very careful when leaving to go out and as there is no gate to stop dogs running out in to road so. Keep dogs on lead. There is a place on site to let dogs play which was good
Adrian
A lovely cosy cottage great location ideal for the dogs, spotlessly clean. Owner very helpful it was a perfect break in a busy working schedule
We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful cottage which had everything you needed and more ! Literally everything had been thought about and the cottage was spotlessly clean even though it caters for dogs We would like to say a massive thank you fir making our stay most enjoyable
Best dog friendly cottage yet! With the dog paddock, hot tub and larger than life bed and bathroom this cottage was a treat for the entire family. Thanks again to Karen and Sykes Cottages.

Please note that some of these activities and days out are paid and it's always a good idea to book in advance to secure your place where applicable.

Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 5 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE
about 13 Miles
This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 15 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens - NR21 0LN
about 16 Miles
if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
Ickworth House, Park & Gardens - IP29 5QE
about 26 Miles
The National Trust Ickworth House, Park & Gardens is a Beautiful 1800 acre country estate with many attractions including a fantastic adventure playground for the children and a range of nature trails which the whole family will enjoy. The site also has a family friendly cycle route a gift shop and a small café
Bishops Boats Seal Trips - NR23 1RY
about 26 Miles
This is a really unique attraction running daily seal watching trips from the middle of March right through to the end of October.  The experienced skippers will lead you out on one of the traditional wooden boats where you will have the chance to see both common and grey seals.  If you love animals then this is one attraction not to be missed! They also do some boat trips combined with guides on dry land such as seal watching combined with a visit to Blakeney Point Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust.  We think this attraction is excellent value for money as they keep their admission prices low.
Sheringham Park - NR26 8TL
about 27 Miles
The National Trust Sheringham Park in Norfolk was designed by Humphry Repton and the book of original designs can still be seen. The park has many attractions including a viewing tower and a gazebo with amazing coastal views, wildlife trails which young children will love and an exhibition barn where visitors can learn the history of the park.
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 27 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
National Horse Racing Museum - CB8 8JL
about 29 Miles
This is a museum with a difference and a must see if you are into horse racing.  You can take guided tours around the museum or choose to wander round yourself admiring the exhibits.  New for 2010 is a Junior Fun Tour which is ideal for children.  Simply ask the gallery staff for a Fun Tour pack when you enter the museum and kids can answer questions and spot clues and tips on the way round.  One of the most popular recent exhibitions is the Thoroughbred: State of the Art exhibition in Gallery 5 on until 31st October.  Check out their websites for the latest exhibitions.
