The Lazy Mare by The Water Reviews

Couldnt have picked a better getaway perfect scenery fantastic host excellent accomodation would highly reccomend
Sharon
When we arrived we were looking forward to having a nice hot tub experience after a long drive. The hot tub had been lit but it was cold . We informed Mandy she got back to us then we did what she said , it was still cold , we didnt use hot tub for two days so we were a bit disappointed . The main thing we would say we werent greeted on arrival and no presents when we left . The cats were lovely especially the white and grey one .
The perfect idyllic place to relax and be totally carefree exemplary staff very friendly and welcoming the scenery is awesome and the hot tub was a bonus ! Would highly recommend it if you just want the simple life and chill out

The hosts were so accommodating and friendly during our stay. The hut itself is small but there is a really good use of space and it is lovely and cosy. It's is a great location away from everything and the Hot Tub was a great bonus. We had a great stay and will definitely go back.
We really enjoyed our stay here! Everything was clean and tidy upon arrival, and the property owner ensured that all of our questions were answered and we had everything we needed for our stay. They gave clear instructions on how to use the hot tub as well as the water inside so we werent unsure on anything. They also gave great advice on the local area which was very helpful. There were a few nice touches such as having a bottle of Prosecco and a milk in the fridge which makes it so welcoming. Will definitely look to return here in future and cant recommend it enough!!!

The Hut was unexpectedly small compared to the photos on Sykes cottages, we was greeted by the host and she showed us the hut she explained you would have to heat up hot tub ourself and how to do it she then explained the shower only stays hot for 2 minutes the hut does have all cooking essentials, the bed was all made up lovely and was a nice surprise to have a full size fridge as was not shown in the photos, the toilet room is not functional as your chin is touching the sink as it so close to the toilet and I think the sink is not needed as you can wash hands in kitchen area to allow more room. The hut has lots of spider nest outside the door and they ended up coming into the bathroom area and there was cobwebs and baby spiders all over the bathroom and these have only got worse as the days went on. The shower was practically useless as only stayed hot for 1 mins then went ice cold so ended up having to wash hair in the sink you cannot move around the bathroom at all. We found that a few spider live in the skirting on the walls was not comfortable sleeping near it. The cats are lovely and friendly was with us the whole time we was here they are cheeky and let them selves feel at home in the hut and wakes you up everyday scratching on the door. Over all lovely cats but wouldnt recommend for non cat lovers. I think the hut is good for a 2 night stay no longer and I wouldnt not be returning.
Lovely little stay in what was kind of like a glamped up mini cabin. Most comfortable bed i have slept in away from home.Very small but compact and had everything you needed to cook with.We took our airfryer as it was March and a charcoal bbq was too much hassle to have to light and get up way to early.Perhaps a gas bbq would benefit, just light it and go.Bathroom could be slightly bigger, you had to tilt your neck to one side while on the loo because of sink. But overall a lovely pleasant and peaceful stay, and we would come back.

I had a great time, very relaxing and loved the hot tub! Would love to come back in the SpringSummer and would recommend for a break as a couple but also great on your own!
We loved our time here! The hut was so perfect and nestled away quietly in the fields over looking the water. Mandy was lovely and messaged before to ask if we wanted the hot tub lit before our arrival. The hut had everything we could have needed a full size fridgefreezer, microwave, kettle, camping stove, all the towelsplatesbedding were provided along with milk and Prosecco, we couldnt have asked for anymore! The location was ideal too, plenty to do in the area but the hut was so amazing we spent most of our afternoon sat in the hot tub in the sun with a bottle of bubbles! My only fault with it and its ever so minor, was the cat. Great if you like cats but Im allergic so having the fluffy guy rubbing up on everything and scratching at the door in the early hours to get in wasnt so great. But again only minor and not at all a reflection of Mandy and her property, we would 100 come again and we will be recommending the stay to everyone we know! Thank you for such a pleasant weekend x
Annabel
Really lovely property, the host were fantastic and the views were to die for

Me and my wife had a fantastic, relaxing 2 night stay. The woodfired hot tub is fab & it's so peaceful to chill out it such a great location, thank you Mandy.
Had a lovely and relaxing stay, host was very welcoming. Hot tub was sublime, highly recommended and would visit again.
Amazing little shepherds hut, with a fantastic view, a fantastic wood burner hot tub, very welcoming hosts, and two beautiful furry visitors who love to make your acquaintance. For a holiday home to relax and get away from it all, including tv and WiFi, Lazy Mare is second to none, highly recommended!
The hut feels like it's been placed in the middle of nowhere despite knowing we traveled through small townsvillages to get to it. Lovely walks, views and coffee shops nearby. Mandy was there to greet us, made sure we knew she was available for anything we might need. The hot tub was the cherry on the top! Just a wonderful mini break for two burnt out teachers! Thank you!
A lovely compact residence, would highly recommend if you want to escape daily routines, the hot tub was brill. Just went for a couple of days, but it was definitely enough to come home feeling relaxed and recharged.
Me and my partner stayed in the Lazy Mare for 2 nights and we had such a wonderful time. The hot tub is most definitely the best thing about the place. Its on the small side so we recommend you not bringing too much luggage with you. It has everything you need pots and pans etc, the fridge is actually quite big which is a plus. We cooked one night and ate out another there are some lovely places to eat around the area. There is also a barbecue but we didnt use it. The cats on the farm love to come and join you too, one sat on my knee which was lovely. Its such a lovely romantic place to stay and at night looking up at the stars while in the hot tub!
Absolutely amazing stay and very welcoming! Would 100 recommend to anyone Looking forward to staying here again
Lovely stay, would highly recommend. Very relaxing and enjoyed the company off the two cats. The hut was perfect, and very private. Mandy was nice enough helping us find the hut by waiting for us at the top off the road. We had the hot tub heated for us on arrival which was lovely! Thank you, we would love to come back again!
Hannah
Mandy was a lovely host very attentive. Had a lovely stay and really enjoyed it for our first holiday together. The Shepards hut and the facilities were lovely and had everything you could ever need. Highly recommend.
Leanne
We had a lovely stay at the Lazy Mare and would love to return one day! Mandy supplied us with everything we needed for a comfortable stay, as well as got the hot tub ready for us, and gave us a taxi number to use for transport from the station. We loved cooking on the BBQ and the welcoming and loving cats who kept us company! I would highly recommend the Lazy Mare just maybe not if youre tall as the bed and bathroom are quite snug but it was perfect for us! Thank you Mandy 3
Stephanie
We had such a fabulous Easter weekend and cannot thank the lovely hosts enough for having us. The hut is cosy so dont overpack! and we had the benefit of glorious weather so we could eat outside and didnt have to make up the bed into the table and chairs. The hut is equipped with enough pots and pans so you can do basic meals, and the lovely addition of Prosecco and milk to the fridge for our arrival was a lovely touch. The views are absolutely amazing, and sitting in the hottub overlooking the fields and reservoir is heaven. Its great if your a pet lover as the friendly cats often paid us a visit! Whats more, this is a lovely part of the UK with fabulous walks and friendly people. Would definitely come back!
An amazing stay with everything I wanted and more. Great location, great accomodation Swedish hot tub a real bonus, amazing surroundings and truly amazings hosts. One could not ask for a better stay anywhere in the UK. Highly recommend a visit.
Lovely stay at the lazy mare. Mandy was very helpful, views was stunning, it was very quiet an relaxing would definitely stay again x
Claire
Maddy was always at the end of the phone whenever we had any queries and always happy to help. The hot tub was fantastic Maddy can put it on in time for it to be hot when you arrive if you arrange this with her, and the hut lovely and warm with all the essentials. To find the place easily we used the coordinates from a previous review, so I've added a dropped pin to Google Maps so it should be searchable now. Hope that helps future holiday makers find it without a hassle in the dark as it's not signposted from the main road. Really lovely place, would be even better in summer as you could use the decking and outdoor furniture too. We must come back!
We had a lovely 4 night stay in The Lazy Mare for my partners birthday. The hot tub was lovely even in January and Mandy was kind enough to text us before arrival to ask if we would like it heated. The shepherds hut is exactly how it is described, really cute and stays very warm with the heater provided. The shower room is very small so if you are on the larger side then I wouldn't recommend it. The bed was surprisingly comfortable considering it is a convertible table and bench seats, however I do think an even thicker mattress topper would have helped. The duvet provided kept us very warm and cozy and we both slept well. There was a surprise bottle of prosecco waiting in the fridge for us too! The highlight of the stay was the farm cats coming up for a cuddle on the deck outside and the lovely black lab who came by on our last night for some belly rubs. I would highly recommend The Lazy Mare!

Had a lovely 3 night stay with my partner in early December. Needless to say, the hot tub was the highlight and an amazing treat even in winter refreshingly crisp, cold air coupled with steaming, toasty water! We thought we would need heated blankets and hot water bottles to keep us warm in the hut, but actually the portable heater provided was already enough to keep us warm and cozy. Mandy was very welcoming and friendly, and just a text message away from bringing us more logs for the hot tub. There were also friendly cats and a dog that liked to come say hello. The hut also has platesbowlsglassesmugsutensils all provided, and also basic pots and pans. There's also a goodsized fridge that has plenty of space to store several meals though we mostly went out to restaurants, plus a takeaway from Infinitii on our last night who were able to deliver straight to the hut. We really enjoyed our stay and are thinking of coming back again one summer to experience the hut during warmer weather! PS. Future guests can use these coordinates on Google maps to navigate to the exact location! 52.8166047, 1.9359762

Amazing place would definitely go back again! !
It was perfect! The lazy mare was quant with the added benefits of the surrounding nature and hot tub, the owner Mandy was brilliant and extremely helpful. We will definitely return here. Its ideal for anyone that love the quiet and being surrounded by nature and beautiful walks, with the added bonus of the lovely cats and dog that came to visit us every daynight.
Wonderful views, very historic. And a brilliant host would love to stay again!
Michael
Holiday amazing, lovely hosts very helpful and friendly. Accommodation was lovely everything you needed. Would defo recommend.
Alexandra
We had a lovely relaxing 3 night stay. The views are beautiful and the surroundings very peaceful. We loved the hot tub and bbq in the evenings and Mandy was on hand whenever we needed anything extra logs for the hot tub!
Hannah
We absolutely loved our stay at the lazy mare. Situated at the end of the farm track it is very private when you are sitting in the deck and in the hot tub, with views to for 360. The bed is a little small for someone tall but what do you expect from a Shepards hut. It is refurbished to a high standard and the whole thing is so pretty. Owners on hand to help us out and were very accommodating. Big thanks to Mandy and her daughter for our wonderful stay x
Lovely holiday,, I went to relax and thats exactly what I got, would definitely return, the view are amazing
