Little Gem Reviews

Russell
We had a really lovely 3 days break at Little Gem during half term. The cottage is stunning. Beautifully presented, high quality fittings and finish, really cosy and snug. Kids loved it. Hot tub was fantastic and lots to see in local area. We will be booking again!!
This really was a Little Gem! The property is immaculate and decoratedfitted out to a very high standard. The bedding and towels are all high quality and there is everything there you could want or need. An especially nice touch was the bottle of Prosecco and chocolates waiting for us, very much appreciated. The hot tub was the perfect place to relax after a long day out, private, sheltered and beautifully illuminated by a string of outside lights. All in all, a lovely stay and I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone, my wife and I loved it and were reluctant to leave today!
Kathleen
We had a lovely stay at Little Gem. We were so pleased with the accommodation, quality of fittings and furniture, provisions and the privacy. We have already booked for next year.
Jessica
Lovely holiday property. Perfect for a short break as a family. Well stocked kitchen and Lovely treat of chocolates and prosecco on arrival
We stayed at Little Gem for a full week and had an absolutely wonderful time! The cottage was delightful in every way, with the hot tub being a nice touch. The beds were super comfortable, as were the sofas. The kitchen had everything we needed too. Loads of things to do locally, or within an hours drive of Little Gem with the option to explore further afield too! Loads of National Trust places, Trentham Monkey Forest and of course the stunning Peak District. Thank you for letting us stay! We will definitely be back for another visit!

Little Gem is a wonderful little conversion with its own parking spaces and a handy EV charging point if required. The owners are extremely amiable and can make themselves available for any issues you may have as they live in the adjacent farm house. Outside to the rear is a hot tub and small patio area. The kitchen area is well stocked with all youd need, even a dishwasher if that is your desire. Little Gem is hidden away down a country lane but lies only 8 minutes away from a large supermarket and fuel station and only half an hour from Burton on Trent and similar to Derby. This last visit was our fourth and I dare say we will be back to see the lovely owners again before the year is out. Thank you Sykes for your ease of booking but mainly thanks to A & A for making this little gem available for others to enjoy. One little disappointment is that Sykes have currently stopped doing insurance but Im sure you can find your own if you shop around. Mel and Tony C.
Beautiful Little Gem. Very classy fittings with a great hot tub. Relaxing break with everything we needed to hand. Many great places to visit nearby. Beautiful Little Gem in a little known scenic area.

As discussed with cleaner on day of departure needs a washing machine if you are staying 2 weeks that's a lot of clothes to bring black bits in hot tub water pressure too high you can get very wet the first time you turn a tap on

We had a lovely Holiday staying at Little Gem. Very clean upon arrival. Description of property and amenities as published. Would highly recommend booking a holiday. Hoping to return next year. Thank you to the owners.
Ashley
What an unforgettable stay! I visited this beautiful cottage on my own to have a recovery week to heal from burnout that I succumbed to from working too much. Relaxing in the hut tub, reading books by the log burner and being in such a peaceful setting for a week has given me the energy I need to continue with my professional career. Thank you so much for helping me get back on my feet! Ash
Stayed here during a very cold January and the property was lovely warm and cosy. All the furnishings were very nice quality, as was the hot tub. Had a couple of questions whilst I was there, which the owner responded to very promptly. Couldnt fault it.
One of the best properties we have stayed in. A fantastic, peaceful location with a well furnished cottage. Prosecco and chocolates lovely on arrival would highly recommend.
Had a lovely few days there. Well equipped and beautifully decorated. The fridge door could do with being opened the other side! Water pressure poor as others have said but we managed. Would like to have seen some hot tub maintenance records available and known it was serviced daily but we didnt, doesnt mean it wasnt of course. Lovely touch to have chocs and prosecco on arrival. Spoke to no one but a man doing some maintenance outside. Overall it was just what we needed.
Michael
We had a wonderful time at Little Gem and we loved the location with lots of great walks in the Peak District and coming back to the hot tub for a soak. Cottage is really well equipped and we loved the Prosecco and Chocolates in the welcome pack. Thank you for a great week.
Adrian
My wife and I had a most relaxing and quiet week, little gem cottage is both stylish and comfortable. We highly recommend little gem and will return to maybe stay longer, lovely environment and lots of walks and places to visit. Thank you Adi & Mandy

We had an excellent holidays at the Little Gem. My granddraughter thorough enjoyed the hot tub and also had the opporunity to ride a horse. The property was top class with all the necessary modern things. It was very much like home to home. the hot system only allows for one shower to used at any one time. Also if there use of water anywhere in the property the water to the shower reduces considerably. There needs to an outside lights at the front door.
Esther
This is a great place to stay very comfortable, and we really appreciated the hot tub. A road closure nearby was a bit of a problem, but we can also recommend the Dog & Partridge for dinner. Had a problem using the main TV turned out the remotes had been swapped so probably need to be marked. I also left some notes for the owner just a few small things that need attention, and some suggestions for additions.
Nice cottage. Close to Uttoxeter. Beds comfortable. Cottage clean and well furnished. Good quality china and utensils. Baking pans and trays could do with updating. Shower floor could do with mats as slippery. Good quality bedding and towels. Lovely welcome of wine and chocolate. Owner quick to sort out a problem that happened with water supply. One bedroom has shutters and no blinds so lots of light coming in. Would be good to have a bigger size fridge and freezer and a washing machine would be helpful. Enjoyed our time there. .
Edward
Lovely cottage, generally well provided. But it would have been so much better if we had been informed that the electric car charger only takes one or two coins. Nowadays most people dont carry lots of coins with them. In general it would help if cottages with EV chargers would have such information included in the description, as well as the price per kw. We really enjoyed our week stay at Little Gem cottage.
Antony
My wife and I have used this property 3 times now and formed a friendship with the property owners as they are really easy to get on with and are on hand for any issues or questions you may have. It is so well placed for relaxation but within 12 an hour of Derby, Burton and some lovely waterside eateries and walks at Barton and Findern. Thank you also to the lady who looks after the property on behalf of Sykes, another great addition, Tony and Mel C.
A delightful holiday cottage situated just outside the Peak District National Park in the charming village of Marchington. The cottage has been tastefully decorated, has been furnished with modern appliances and provides cosy accommodation for up to four people. We particularly enjoyed the hot tub, a real bonus after a days hill walking to soothe and rejuvenate tired muscles. Overall a great holiday experience and full marks to the owners who have made Little Gem a real home from home.
Angela
We had a lovely holiday at Little Gem blessed with good weather we had fun exploring the area. Cottage was wonderful, quiet and very comfortable with lovely furnishings and well equipped kitchen. Thoughtful in that flowed, chocolates and wine were left too. We would be very happy to stay again. The couple who owned the cottage were very helpful and kind.
Claire
We had a wonderful stay at Little Gem! It was spotlessly clean with great quality fittings, furniture, soft furnishings and the kitchen was well equipped. The area was lovely and peaceful and was well positioned for trips to Drayton Manor and Alton Towers as well as a more peaceful couple of days at the Trentham Estate. I would definitely recommend staying here and we'd love to come back in the future.
We stayed at Little Gem cottage in April 23. What a delight it was, the cottage did not disappoint and truly was a little gem with fantastic hosts that were happy to help with anything throughout our stay. The cottage was spotless, well equipped with high quality fixtures and fitting throughout and it was clear from the moment we stepped into the cottage that a lot of love and effort has gone into making the cottage perfect and the fresh flowers, chocolates and prosecco being the perfect welcome. The location of the cottage was great, set in beautiful scenic surroundings but a short drive to the town which has lots of lovely places to eat and shops to explore. Lots of beautiful walks and many local attractions in a short driving distance with details of these in the information booklet provided. The Hot tub was a great addition and we really enjoyed our time chilling while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. We will certainly come back again in the future.
A well appointed cottage with everything you need for your stay. A lovely welcome pack that was very appreciated. The cottage is in a lovely location with lovely views, it is very peaceful and quiet, but also convenient to explore the wonderful area in which it is located. We would not hesitate to book again.
Antony
The only little pick up would be, a couple of pans had obviously been cleaned in the dishwasher but still had a bit of grease on them, we washed them by hand as we never use a dishwasher. Maybe the addition of a knife sharpener would be a good idea, unless we just couldnt find it ! Thanks Alison and Andy and the staff at Sykes. Happy New Year
The cottage is lovely, cosy and clean with everything we needed, welcome ... The cottage is lovely, cosy and clean with everything we needed, welcome chocolates and Prosecco and fresh flowers on the table, was a lovely touch, The welcome pack was useful, but maybe some instructions on what to do on keavingyno bins accessible so left kitchen bins full Some idiot guides on using the hob and oven for us old technophobes please Absolutely loved the place, Massive apologies to the owners for leaving the grill pan, dirty, out of sight was out of mind Thank you for a lovely break away
Elaine
We enjoyed a lovely, restful 4 night break in Little Gem. It was warm, cosy and situated on a farm out of the main village up a quiet single track lane, but within easy driving distance of towns and places to visit. The cottage was very modern with everything provided that we needed, including dish cloths, tea towels, toilet rolls and extra towels for the hot tub. We took a lot of items with us that we didnt need, as the information received prior to arrival was still following covid guidelines. We enjoyed using the hot tub after our daily trips out. There were 2 large double bedrooms both with ensuites. The host left flowers, prosecco and chocolates on our arrival, which was a nice touch, and spoke to us on leaving to check everything had been ok. They were easily contactable if there were any problems, but leave you on your own to enjoy your stay.
Jennifer
We had a fantastic stay at Little Gem. The house was just what we needed for our weekend stay. It was very clean, well equipped, cosy and the hot tub topped it off! Would highly recommend staying here!
Our stay at Little Gem was overall very good, the sofas are lovely and comfy though I would imagine a bit small for anymore than 2 adults, the kitchen is well equipped, the log burner was lovely as was the hot tub brilliant for soothing sore muscles after a day of walking. There were a couple of negative points which took a star off the rating for us. Firstly, the beds werent very comfy, so none of us slept very well whilst there. Secondly, there needs to be black out blinds in the front bedroom, the wooden shutters are beautiful, however they do still let a lot of light in whenever a car comes down the road or the security light comes on at the property opposite, which happened a couple of times in the night. This may also help with the noise from dogs barking a 630am wake up was not ideal!
Lovely spacious cottage. Clean and warm. Private use of hot tub. Within easy reach of shops after a short drive. Pleasant and peaceful stay. Highly recommended.
We had a lovely stay in this little gem. Perfect size for the 4 of us. Very well equipped and incredibly clean. Some lovely touches too with flowers, fizz and chocolates!
It was in a lovely position nice and quiet. It would have been nice to have a washing machine as we were going on to another property. Showers very slippery needed a mat in the bottom or some sort of non slip base. We had a great time at this property. Really good Indian restaurant just down the road. Would certainly book again. Wendy
Graham
Little Gem apt name for a comfortable well appointed and tastefully decorated property.
We really enjoyed our stay at Little Gem. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed, with the added bonus of a hot tub. I read other reviews which mentioned bad internet and barking dogs, we didnt experience either of these. The internet worked great and the 3 farm dogs were lovely. We would definitely return
