Rowan Cottage Reviews

In our age of overthetop, flowery property descriptions and deceiving photography, it's nice to land in a place that exceeds the prose and the images. Great rental properties are the offspring of thought, care, and love. It was our joy to discover that Rowan Cottage was one of those.
Absolutely gorgeous property with lots of room, and lovely furnishings, a vast amount of utility. Had an absolutely superb stay and would reccommend this to anyone who is looking for a group getaway!
We had a lovely stay at Rowan cottage. Theres everything and more in terms of equipment for catering. The layout is beautiful and everything was clean and the bedrooms super cosy with comfortable beds. Outside the seating areas are perfect for the amazing views especially when sat in the hot tub. Pure bliss. Really stunning location, peaceful yet close enough to take day trips to the more touristy places in the lakes. We were really touched by the basket of goodies that were waiting for us on arrival including fresh bread, preserves, eggs, butter and milk. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have already recommended to friends. We would love to come back again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Superb accommodation, Comfy, warm, very well maintained, high standard, amazing views Would definitely stay again
Gerald
This is a beautiful accommodation and very well equipped. Loved having the hot tub. The only problem was the temperature of the rooms. All the bedrooms seemed very warm especially the downstairs bedrooms.

Excellent facility, very well located, and within easy reach of the whole lake District. Amazing terrace to sit and have breakfast on. Beautiful surroundings for walks.
Beautiful location and an amazing property. All bedrooms were very comfortable had excellent ensuite facilities. The reception spaces were ideal for 8 people if maximum occupancy we were only 4. Kitchen was well equipped and thr gas BBQ very useful. Particularly liked the vast quantities of cutlery and crockery.. more than we have ever seen in a holiday let. Lynsey was a lovely host and we appreciated the welcome basket and bubbles ! We will be back
Amanda
Thank you for a wonderful stay. The cottage is beautiful with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was stocked to a very high standard with the convenience of the second fridge. The views from the hot tub were breathtaking. The only difficulty we experienced was the lack of temperature control in the bedrooms. It was very hot in the downstairs bedroom and the only way to cool down was to open the door to the patio which wasnt a good idea for security. But other than that, we have had a lovely week. Thank you!
An absolutely amazing cottage, deffinitley worth the visit. The views are absolutely stunning and the owners perovided alot more then i expected. Couldnt fault this accommodation one bit. Would have deffinitley stayed for longer if it was possible.
We had a wonderful weekend in October fabulous accommodation wonderful setting lovely patio with bbq and hot tub all very well thought out so private from other cottages. Generous welcome pack and very helpful owner we have booked to go back next year. Definitely 5 stars.

Rowan Cottage is the perfect base for a family holiday. We liked it so much we are hoping to return.
Everything about this place was perfect! The location and the cottage itself was beautiful. It was clean, modern, had everything needed to make our stay extra special, so much so we have booked it adding for next year!
Matthew
Amazing place, lovely service and a most welcome break
Amazing house cant fault it. loved everything about it.
Absolutely beautiful cottage, exceeded expectations by way of amenities. So spacious, clean and the ensuites in each room plus additional toilet was great. The welcome basket with spreads, fresh bread, eggs and butter was a lovely surprise and the cottage had everything we needed and more. Initially we wondered why the hot tub was down a few steps, but we soon realised it was so you could watch the sun set over the valley! We cant wait to come back!
The cottage was beautiful and very well equipped. The views from the hot tub were amazing and we were so lucky with the weather. The cottage was finished to a very high standard and was so spacious. We will definitely return and would recommend Bigland Hall Cottages to anyone looking for a Lake District holiday!! We had a brilliant weekend and it was just what we needed!!
Steven
Excellent accommodation, very well kept with plenty of space inside and with a lot of character. The setting was nice and quiet with just a few properties in the area, the loudest things around were the cows munching grass in the field next door. The views were great and you have easy access to the lakes from this area. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly and attended to any concerns immediately. These properties will definitely be on our list next time we're looking to go to the Lake District.
Elizabeth
The cottage was fantastic exactly as described and better than we expected! Really friendly owners happy to answer any questions and a lovely welcome pack on arrival. Hot tub was great and we used the barbecue a couple of times. By far the best accommodation we've stayed in yet, a great holiday base to explore the Lakes and superb place to relax.
A beautiful location and Rowan Cottage very comfortable and well equipped, the onsite staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property.
We had a lovely week at Rowan Cottage. The cottage was beautiful, wellappointed and in a lovely, peaceful setting. The welcome basket was a lovely addition. A couple of days we stayed were very warm which meant the nights were quite hot, especially in one of the downstairs bedrooms where there were no opening windows fortunately we had brought a fan with us but we would recommend this to anyone staying during the warmer months of the year.
Top quality accommodation Excellent on site support Excellent attention to detail particularly basket of goods on arrival and teas , coffees milk etc. We will book again Location and access to activities at the south lakes excellent.
Fabulous weekend for all the family Warm welcome and everything explained on arrival Hot tub a bonus. Frosty weekend so enjoyed hot tub under the stars with the grandchildren. Made lots of memories. Thanks to the owners as it ticked all. The boxes
Absolutely perfect and peaceful. Had the most amazing weekend. Beautiful views from the cottage with all facilities available.
No. We sorted out a few minor issues with the Bigland Hall staff on site.
Lovely cottage conversion. Well equipped. Generous welcome package. Location more remote than expected with very little to do without driving a long way.
The weather was difficult as you expect at times in the lake district. To come back to such a beautiful comfortable house with everything we needed to be totally happy playing games cooking food and drinking in comfort was just what we needed. Thanks for the little extras that made us feel so welcome. My wife had died on march the 5th and we were not sure whether to carry on with the family holiday. I spoke to the people running the holiday home and felt nothing but support from them. The flowers were wonderful and lasted throughout the holiday. The card they left for me expressing best wishes under the circumstances was very well received and we had a wonderful holiday with my wife's name Pauline being constantly on our tongues and in our minds. It was as if she was with us as she had always been on so many occasions in the past. So a special thanks to Lynsey and Karen. I hope we will be back in the future. Kevan Murphy
A lovely, relaxing, comfortable and wellresourced cottage with great views and a superb hot tub.
Rowan Cottage was excellent everything you could want, even had a welcome basket I wasnt expecting with essential like bread, jam, butter and milk in the fridge and a bottle very much appreciated. We went on a lovely walk with great views and made use of the hot tub in the evening.
On site assistance was good. Excellent views and good local pub.
Maggie
The owners had spared no trouble in making our Christmas very special. Gifts under the tree for everyone and a hamper of goodies to start our celebration in style. We loved the cottage, and were made to feel genuinely welcome.
Loved everything about this place. The property is stunning with amazing views! Hot tub was fab as were all the facilities. The heating was abit too warm for me and was tricky to adjust but not worth complaining about. All 8 of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay. ,
Steven
Cottage was fantastic. Had everything we needed and more. Great setting.
Valerie
Wonderful accommodation, the owner met us and was very welcoming. The accommodation was very well supplied. We had a lovely stay.
An excellent place to stay. Very high standard of finish. Extremely comfortable. Would definitely recommend and will be returning in future.
If you are not totally impressed with this cottage, then there is something wrong with you! From the outside it looks lovely, but inside is even better. The size of every room is impressive. The quality and feel of the cottage is staggering good. They not only rebuilt the cottage to a very high meticulous standard, but also maintain it and all the contents to the say degree. We have stayed in many different places over our lifetime, from beach huts to lighthouses. This cottage is the best we have stayed in. The country setting is lovely. The service first class. What more do you want?
Katherine
We had a fabulous time. The cottage is wonderful, everything has been thought of and more. The outdoor space is amazing. Just perfect.
Alexandra
Just wow! This cottage is beautiful. Amazing week.
The cottage was renovated and decorated to the highest standard. Every room was better than the next. The bedrooms were all so nice we couldn't tell which one was supposed to be the master! The living area was comfortable and the log burner a lovely idea, we used it each night. The views from the hot tub were unbelievable. Can't wait to come back
Amanda
Would have benefitted from more detailed directions once we arrived at Backbarrow. No indication that some food and washing up things provided. Would have saved on amount of packing. Nice to have it though. Wardrobe in first upstairs bedroom was very stiff to close. Only one side of mirror light working in two of the bathrooms.

South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH

Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.

Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US

This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
