The Belfry Reviews

Antony
Reported just after arriving that the heating was not working. The engineer arrived quite quickly but was just a plumber and knew nothing about the new heat pump that had just been installed so he supplied some electric heaters that worked fine. A second engineer turned up two days later, fiddled with the controls and said it would work after 30 minute and left unfortunately it still didnt work! Hot tub was lovely but was located in a position that was overlooked by other properties and had open access no bolt on gate so anyone could use it while we were out. Neither of the above detracted from a lovely holiday.
Bathrooms need deep cleaning, both are mouldy, moreover the ensuite shower room water was not draining properly. Small bedroom is extra small not sure if you may consider extending it a bit if possible. Throw blanket in the living room needs washing. Otherwise the rest was excellent my family and I enjoyed our stay at the Belfry.
A wonderful property in a super location for exploring the lakes. After an issue with the hot water, the response and problem solving from Lakelovers was extremely quick.
Second time at the Belfry and probably wont be the last visit because its so nice! Good location too easy access to the Lake Districts excellent bus network and trains.

Our Honeymoon, Thank you for a lovely stay in your gorgeous cottage for our honeymoon. It was so clean and well presented, just gorgeous. The hot tub is perfect also, love the personalised hot hub glasses and towels, great location. will recommend your cottage and hopefully be back. The Heppenstalls
This property is not fit for rental and holiday lettings and we were very disappointed by our overall experience. Every room in the Belfry has black mould throughout all windows and frames are covered in black mould, there was black mould on the bed sheets and on the curtains. We were unable to sleep in the main bedroom as there was such a mouldy stench and I have left the property with a stuffed nose. I contacted Sykes who did send out workmen however it was a partial treatment and requires much deeper work and attention to sort the problem. Other issues include the en suite bathroom as it stunk and the drainage didnt work properly. Small things like the 5 bulb chandelier in the main bedroom only had 3 bulbs working, were disappointing. Lastly we were awoken on Friday morning at 730am to a leaf blower outside the bedroom windows which went on for an hour no sleep ins at the Belfry! Overall the property has real potential its nicely decorated, lovely furnishings the table, chairs and couch and its in a great location however the fundamental issues with the property far outweigh any of the benefits. Given the price we paid to stay at the Belfry, it fell well below expectations and the cleanliness alone is enough for me to not recommend it to anyone.
Loved the Belfry everything had been thought off fantastic quiet location but ... Loved the Belfry everything had been thought off fantastic quiet location but near enough to all facilities would highly recommend to anyone thinking of staying
Absolutely beautiful and wonderful place to stay. We loved the location and The Belfry. The hot tub was a super bonus too. We will be back next year.
Philippa
Superb accommodation in a fantastic location. Easy to walk into Windermere and Bowness as well as easy access to main roads. The Belfry was spotless and comfortable. Lots of information on hand for places to visit as well as how to work the amenities within the house. Hot tub was checked daily by a company, which had no impact on us. Hot tub was great, loved the timed fairy lights too. Great for bat and owl watching. We would 100 consider coming here again.
Rachael
Great stay lovely place great location we will be back just one small issue the toilet in the main bathroom had problems flushing.
Gareth
Excellent location Amazing hot tub Beautiful interior comfy Beds Quality kitchen
We really loved staying at this property and we hope to come back soon. A fabulous property in a perfect location. We had all the facilities within the property we needed and the hot tub was a great addition that was well used
Tracey

The property was fitted out to a very high standard and was very attractive and comfortable. One of the best cottages that we have stayed in.
Dianne
A wonderfully comfortable property! Fab facilities and maintained to a high standard. Everything you would need is provided. The welcome tray was very much appreciated, thank you for sharing this little gem...we're coming back in July!
Beverley
Gorgeous Cottage in a lovely quiet location with everything you need. Only thing missing was a dressing table and mirror, which is essential for women, especially when there for a week.
Isabelle
The Belfrys location is great just a short walk into Windermere town which has great amenities we recommend The Crafty Baa and The Lamplighter Dining Rooms. The property is finished to a very high standard and the kitchen is well equipped with everything we needed during our stay. The beds are very comfortable with quality bed linen and towels provided, including for the hot tub which we made good use of. The only minor issue is the very narrow entrance to the property the solution was to turn the car wing mirrors inward to avoid problems. We have already recommended The Belfry to our friends.
Excellent location, walking distance to shops, cafes and bars as well as being a short drive away from Ambleside and Kendal. Good car parking, although the drive to get to the property is very narrow and would struggle to fit a larger car. The property itself was excellent. Very comfortable, perfect size. Such a lovely touch to have christmas decorations!! Also included towels for showers and to use in the hot tub. The private hot tub was excellent, although not warm enough to use on the first night of the stay we assume that the water had been changed that day for us arriving. Perfect place for a girly catch up holiday!
Isabelle
You did not even know I never went I postponed the trip once and could not ... You did not even know I never went I postponed the trip once and could not reach you over the phone or my mail to postpone it a second time the site did not allow a second time So I will never use your company again ever I have told all my friends
What an amazing place to stay. The location of this cottage is perfect, just a short stroll from the town centre with bars and restaurants. The decor is stunning and the furniture is very high quality, I think I slept better here than I do at home! We made use of the hot tub which was lovely to have. The church bells do chime every 15 minutes but we got used to that. The only problem was that both TVs in the bedrooms didnt work, but we werent bothered. Cannot wait to return!
The accommodation was absolutely perfect, beautifully decorated with all the facilities you could need. Perfect for a family of 4. A couple of minute walk into the centre of Windermere. Its just off a busy road but you cannot hear the traffic the church bells do ring every 15 minutes between 8am10pm but you soon get used to it!
Excellent accommodation in a brilliant location
Richard
Lovely accommodation in a great location and really enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub at the end of the day.
The cottage was beautifully maintained and exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend it.
The cottage was lovely clean and well equipped. The hot tub was excellent too! Will definitely book here again.
The Belfry was a beautiful stay, it was clean throughout and decorated to an extremely high and tasteful standard. Hot tub was very welcome after walking, with towels and 'glasses' provided for use in it. The appliances and the kitchen were high quality, everything was there that we needed no need to bring bottle opener, peeler, grater etc. The smart TV was a very welcome addition, access to all streaming services which was great for relaxing after the hot tub. The property is literally 3 minutes walk from town but even though it is right in the heart of everything it was so peaceful and quiet, no road noise, no neighbour noise, felt like it could have been the middle of nowhere so we got a quiet nights sleep every night. Really enjoyed our stay and will 100 recommend it to people who are loolikg to stay in that area.
The cottage was beautiful. Very well equipped with everything we needed. It was great to have the hot tub to relax in after a busy day. The location was fantastic. A short walk into Windermere and about 25 minute walk into Bowness. Will be booking again.
The cottage was beautiful, tasteful and well stocked. Spotless and well located for easy access to Windermere a few minutes walk and Ambleside bowness and troutbeck all on the doorstep! We had a church with beautiful chimes next door to us and a huge variety of birds visiting the patio after a long day of walking the hot tub was an amazing addition!! The welcome basket was a lovely touch and we will definitely be back
The place its self was lovely, we had a few issues at the start of our stay. on arrival when un packing our food we discovered some very very mouldy items in the breadbin which im assuming was weeks old! The hob tub was not ready for us with the temperature being at 20 degrees when we spoke to the hottub company he said theres a problems with the boiler and hot water system which they ususlly use to fill the hot tub. We had no hot water on the first night of out stay also. also no use of the hot tub on our first day of our three day stay the hot tub temperature took until the second morning to get up to the correct temperature for usage.
Jonathan
Amazing place, great location and would definitely stay here again. So comfy and well furnished it really is a home from home, was very sad to leave.

Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU

Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 11 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 14 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 18 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Happy Mount Park - LA4 5AQ
about 21 Miles
Happy Mount Park has attractions for the whole family including several play areas, a miniature railway, crazy golf, putting green and trampolines, there is also a paddling pool where the little ones can splash around in the summer and a café where the adults can relax with a drink. During the summer months and especially during school holidays live music can often be enjoyed.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 24 Miles
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
